Despite growing up around here, I somehow never stumbled through these grand entrance gates until recently. This gem of a garden isn't just my butt's savior now on long drives up from LA, but it's a sliver of paradise found--and sanity regained. Just walking around here for 15-20 mins. and you'll feel your blood pressure drop a few notches to a pleasant state of calm. You can explore the themed areas, take in the vegetation around you, and get landscaping tips just from strolling around their property. The plant things are grouped in various climate/hemispheres and it's nice to see them taking root and being incorporated in a seamless design (and it's nice shopping experience too). I was impressed with the selection and bought a few small air plants and succulents that are still thriving with offshoots. Prices are reasonable. For pros looking for inspo, I think this place that can offer Interior Designers & Landscapers creativity with plants. Or even the DIY Weekend Warrior looking to revamp their current landscaping or add a little something new to it. They have a wide variety of exotics, California natives to indigenous to Australia, and every other tree, shrub, and greenery in between. Since it's the year of the (hobby) horse, I'll be sure to get my butt up here more often in 2026.

As a store there's all sorts of different plants and gardening items that you'd need. I like to…read morestop by solely for the botanical gardens in back. It's a nice small excursion if traveling to LA. What a wonderful concept to put a botanical garden on the property, it could show what you could do with the plants that they sold. It's tranquil to walk around and explore yet it is right next to the 101 so the freeway was loud. They really packed a lot of diversity into this small area. There were plaques for each different garden. Plaques I noticed (though there might be more) were South African Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Grassland, Cottage Garden, Native Garden, Succulent Garden, Central/South American garden, Australian garden, and Asian garden. My favorite was the Asian garden because it had a pond with koi fish.

This is by far the best nursery I've ever been to, and I've lived in Santa Barbara my entire life…read more I would drive to Summerland/carp any day for this selection and for their prices. I'm almost hesitant to post this review because I don't want to have it be swamped. Next time I go, but it really is that good. They have a huge variety to choose from and their knowledge and expertise is second to none. Plus they loaded everything into my car for me and they let me take my dogs around as I looked for plans throughout their huge nursery. Service 11/10, selection, 11/10, value 12/10. If anything, I'm under selling this review. Once you go and see for yourself, you'll know exactly what I mean

I have been purchasing plants from this nursery for years because I have always liked the variety,…read moreprice points, and customer service from Freddie. However, today changed that! I was there planning on purchasing bouganvilla shrubs but the owner, Alfredo, was an absolute Son-of-a-Bitch! He lacks solid customer service skills which is absolutely essential when dealing with the public. I had a question about the shrub and he would not even answer it as he told me that his time was being wasted as he is a busy man. In addition, he also said that his nursery is NOT retail but wholesale! Alfredo, you obviously are ONE miserable human being and should really consider another job that does not include people. I really feel sympathy for the workers who work for you as you must interact in the same way with them. As you told me, you pay your son, Freddie, A LOT of money for working at your nursery and quite frankly, you SHOULD! If it wasn't for your son, daughter, and workers, you would have NOTHING because your an ASSHOLE!! So, today, you LOST a great customer because I will NEVER return to purchase from your nursery ever again! And, I most certainly will tell others to never patronize your nursery as there are many others to choose from.

Shortly after bringing the string of pearls home I noticed it had a fungus gnats issue. The octopus plant I brought home on a separate occasion died 3 days later even after caring for it as directed. With that said, I have a green thumb and have been successfully able to keep 9 other indoor plants (from other places) alive and 4 outdoor plants (from other places) alive. I called island view to ask if there was anything they could do such as an exchange and the man seemed unwilling to budge and ultimately tried to blame me for the issues. NEVER buying plants here again!!!! I like to support local but not if the customer service is poor. Unfortunately, since the CS is poor, I will be continuing to buy my plants from big box stores such as Home Depot, ACE, and grocery stores. This sounds crazy, but I SWEAR by grocery store plants - all of the ones I have bought at grocery stores (Trader Joe's, Albertsons, etc.) have lasted 2 years and counting!!! As stated in previous reviews BUYER BEWARE!!!

The staff are nice and very willing to help. Only complaint would be that many times they aren't very helpful as far as plant-knowledge goes. So if you have specific plant questions don't have high expectations. Otherwise it's a great nursery.

Hands down, new favorite place to recommend in town for anything garden or hardware wise. I have been on the lookout lately for low light indoor hanging plants, succulents, and unique herbs. Within 5 minutes of being at Carp Valley Lumber I found all of the above and more. When you walk into the parking lot and turn right to the outdoor garden area they have rows upon rows of gorgeous, healthy plant varieties. I spent probably 45 minutes browsing the "Succulent Salads" collections just to see all the different colors and varieties that there are in the world. I was extremely impressed with the widespread options with such a reasonable price. They even had lush hanging succulents placed in perfect lighting and not half dead like a lot of shops have them. The gal working answered all my herb questions, helped me find pots, checked the back-stock for me, and held my items as I went to my meeting. Very kind and genuine customer service with a lot of helpful knowledge on the plants they carry. The outdoor nursery area also carries garden decor, chairs, fire-pits, and things like such. They have plenty of plant food supply, pesticides, pots, bird feeders, fertilizers and other gardening necessities inside their little hut, as well. Make sure to check out the front right corner where all the air plants and hanging varieties are - it's a beautiful "jungalow" set up! I came for a succulent and left with three more plants and some pots. I even stepped inside the hardware store and bought a $0.98 ceiling hook (right as the power went out). Otherwise I would have shopped longer. I'm very happy with all my purchases, their prices, the parking lot, and the kind, knowledgable customer service. Definitely make sure to give this place a try if you've never been by. I mean how can you pass up a place that sells a Mint Chocolate herb plant that literally smells like Christmas in a plant?
