We hired Sterling Gardens Nursery for our re-landscaping project and could not be more happy with the final results. They did everything from a paver-stone patio, new irrigation and sod, removing and re-locating existing trees and plants, adding lights, and even retrofitting and setting up an old fountain of ours that had been used as a planter. I can't say enough about Andres and his crew, they were hard working, professional and had great ideas for improving our design. Lastly, Laurie came in and helped with the grand design of our planting scheme. With her knowledge of plants, she made the most of our existing plants and then added her touch with additional planting that turned our backyard into a wonderland. When on a recent hunt for succulents for a garden project, Dear Hubby thought that I meant Sterling Gardens, when I was heading for Elegant Garden instead. After we went to the latter with only partial success, DH suggested going to Sterling. He'd been there before, while I had only wanted to visit but had never stopped in. It's beautifully laid out. Though it's a nursery, selling all manner of trees and other plants, it's arranged to feel like you're visiting a designed garden. Once we drove into the heart of the property I was somewhat confused on where to stop and park. DH remarked that they had done some major rearranging since he'd last been there, so he wasn't sure where to direct me to go. We found a spot that wasn't blocking any of their driveways, then got out to take a look around. We weren't seeing any succulents, nor any employees to ask. I was soaking up the beautiful surroundings when one of the staff offered to help. He said that they don't sell smaller succulents, only one and five gallon pots. That's not going to work for us at this stage, so we thanked him and moved on to another stop. I would plan to return when looking for larger landscaping needs. read more

I left a comment on their instagram page and it got deleted. Therefore, I am forced to come here and leave a review based on our last experience. The guy on their instagram page is terrible. We bought a $400 tree and right before planting it our gardener told us it was defective. It had a crack from the bottom of the trunk all the way to the top. My husband went back to the nursery and spoke to the guy on their instagram videos only to be met with hostility and no resolution to the problem. He became very agitated and kept talking over my husband to the point where my husband had to ask him to calm down so he could speak. We've shopped there for years and have never seen this guy up until now. It's unfortunate a person of that character works there, all the other guys have been so kind and helpful. Sterling Gardens get rid of him, he doesn't belong in your business. We got no resolution to our defective tree. read more

Sterling Gardens is my most favorite nursery. Their trees and plants are spectacular. The grounds are beautiful and do well laid out. Jairo answered all my questions and took me to the area where I was able to choose the hedges I wanted. Their Installation team is fabulous. I will not be using this nursery for my current project or any in the future. I purchased a plant but it turned out not to be the color the customer wanted. The next day I went back to see about swapping it but they didn't have the right color, so I just asked for a return. Nope. He told me that there is no way I can do a return because I used a credit card. Seriously? Mr. Neck tattoo, who kept calling me "Boss" in every sentence, was willing to pass up future sales just because he didn't feel like, or doesn't know how, to do a return. There are no signs or any notes on the receipt that say "all sales are final". Very rude and shortsighted. read more

My mother is in a nursing home so I do FaceTime adventures and take her to the different places and I think we both enjoyed coming to this garden. The plants are really well cared for and healthy looking. I even saw a hummingbird. The staff is very helpful. They also have a small amount of animals including a white pheasant. This is the biggest most beautiful garden I've been to in Ventura county. The grounds are very well kept, clean, organized, and just beautiful! Joe is so kind and so knowledgeable. I'm really hoping the owner sees this and is able to help me resolve this issue. I went in to buy a fountain and I found the fountain I wanted. They had two of the exact same fountain, just slightly different coloring. They price their fountains by writing directly on them with a paint type substance that looks a bit like chalk. These two fountains were both priced at $560. When I went to purchase the fountain the salesman told me the fountain was $685... $125 MORE THAN THEIR LISTED PRICE! I pointed out that they were priced at $560, not $685. He went back and forth with me a bit and long story short he refused to sell the fountain for their listed price. I asked to speak with a supervisor, thinking maybe that would resolve this and he said he was the manager. I then asked to speak with the owner, knowing they obviously don't want their sales people ripping off customers and he said the owner was unavailable and will not be available. Does anyone happen to know how to contact the owner of Sterling Gardens Nursery? I'm sure this could be easily resolved with the owner if there's a way to reach them. read more

Money hungry? ‍ I've been there two days in a row. One gallon: $10. Five gallon: $26. Today I found out that a near by nursery sells one gallons for $6.50. When I asked if I could get a discount for my 6 one gallons, I would have preferred the guy to say "no" instead of telling me an entire story and lying. I was literally standing next to two workers who were taking small plants out of one gallon containers and putting them in five gallon containers. They could have given me a $1 discount on six ($54 vs $60) and I would have been happy. Now they lost a customer. read more

Wow. We stopped by here for the first time the other day and are so glad that we did. Jairo (sounds like Hy-do) found us right away and helped us to find lots of great treasures for our yard. He was so helpful and friendly - some of the best customer service we have ever had. I loved how organized the plants and trees are, everything is so neat and tidy and all of the plants are in great shape. You don't see anything looking beat up or uncared for. I found whatever this place is to be very confusing. My navigator guided me there and I pulled past the sign and through the gates down a beautifully landscaped road that said Sperling nursery, and I parked my car in a lot. I found acres of beautifully arranged plants with no prices no labels, no descriptions no one to help it was like sort of a twilight zone. A couple of employees drove up to me in an ATV and I asked them if this was a retail nursery and they said no retail was too expensive so I assumed they meant no we do not accept retail trade. Yet from their website, it seems like they do. I don't know what's going on here, but they really need to tighten up their operation so that people know where to park and where to shop or whether they shouldn't even bother to come and waste their time here. Trees purchased grew well mostly. However, planting which we paid for to make sure it was done professionally was done poorly. The bracing was not done correctly and not to any recommended method. Consequently, a year later 3 out of six fell flat. This is b/c the sticks were placed against and tightened on the stumps. When we contacted Sterling they said they call tomorrow but never did. So we had to re brace all of them ourselves. The soil for the tree on the side was not replaced or replaced enough, consequently it's struggling compare to others. read more

The Nursery is very clean, Organized, Well stocked and the Client Service is worth 5 Stars. The prices are Excellent! The Team Member Cole was helping me, He was very knowledgeable, Friendly and he was going above and Beyond to take care of me! We bought a fixer upper in Simi Valley and it didn't have any landscaping at all on 3/4 of an acre. Sterling Nursery has been amazing, particularly Jiro and Joe who have helped us repeatedly over the last four years figure out what works in our yard that rabbits won't eat and gophers don't like, what likes sun, what doesn't, what colors, how easy to grow in the soil, etc. We keep going back because of their great customer service and the quality of the plants we've bought there - we should be landscapers we've bought so much stuff!! It took Laurie Young several days to visit the property ( after several calls and emails) . She assured me that she will be sharing a quotation in two days..... it has been over a month now. I was looking for a nursery that had everything I needed to plant on my backyard hillside. My mother recommended that we go here as she is the green thumb in my family. We met Brianna and she was a rockstar from start to finish. She's super knowledgeable and was very helpful throughout the whole process. The nursery itself is beautiful; I don't think I've ever seen a more organized nursery in my life. All the staff we encountered was super helpful and friendly as well. I had a great experience with Sterling nursery. Jairon was very friendly and helped me find the trees and plants I was looking for. The plants were very high quality, and delivery service was great. They delivered during the time window they said they would, and the driver called me when he was about 15 minutes away so I would know exactly when he would arrive. Three polite friendly guys unloaded my plants and trees quickly. The reason I am rating a 4 instead of a 5 is was there was not a great selection of fruit trees or palm trees. Oh, off in the distance I see someone watering so I hike over to him. Show him a photo of what I'm looking for and he looks a bit confused. .... maybe over there he says pointing off into the abyss. I hike in the direction of his dirty weather beaten pointing finger (alone) to search for my self. Looking, looking, looking... no luck so I hike back to my trusty SUV and drive off into the sunset, looking back one last time to see the owner of the pointing finger watching my dust as I drove away. .. read more

Found this affordable local nursery on Yelp while searching for backyard plants. The driveway entrance is a bit hidden but the property is very nice, there is plenty of parking. They are stocked with well selected soil, plants, flowers & small trees. The staff is super noobie friendly if you have questions, but not pushy. They have the knowledge to explain the best complementary flowers and can give you tips on how to maintain the plant. read more
