I decided to make one more stop, and I pulled into this place. I'd driven past this place countless times. They've got several places down the 126, and I did pull into two of them thinking of buying a plant for my patio. "Third time's the charm" I thought to myself as I pulled into the lot with a semi trailer advertising for the place. I saw other cars and realized I was in the right lot. I got out of my car and started meandering around, looking at the multitudes of potted plants, all organized by type. They had pots of every size, from small desk-pot sized to giant tree-sized pots. Before too long somebody came out to greet me and help me out. I explained my needs; I needed something that was kinda cool looking, and nigh-indesctructable. I have a tendency to forget that plants need watering and care and stuff. I excitedly buy plants, and then put the plants on my patio and then tend to wonder why I have pots with sticks several months later. Benjamin furrowed his brow and lead me over to an aisle of plants. He began pointing out the ones that were more difficult to kill. We hadn't gotten very far down the row before a bush caught my eye. It was a greenish thing with some deep red leaves. It certainly fulfilled the "looking kinda cool" requirement. Benjamin said it was fairly hardy, and drought resistant. That went along way for requirement #2. I decided to get it. I expected it to be a fairly expensive purchase, but was very relieved when Benjamin said it was only twenty bucks. He picked up the plant and brought it over to the trailer that served as their office. He punched my credit card info into the computer, and rang me up. He then put the plant in a great big bag that prevented the dirt from getting all over the trunk of my car. He offered to bag the top as well, to prevent leaves from getting all over the trunk of my car, but I declined. I was more concerned with dirt, leaves I could pick up easily enough and toss out. (Which happened when I got home.) He even carried it over to my car and loaded it into my trunk. Nice job Benjamin. I drove home and planted the bush, and marveled at the price. A paltry twenty bucks for this cool lookin bush that was nearly up to my chest. If at some point I discover one of my pots has a bunch of sticks in it, I'll certainly head back here for something else.

All but 2-3 of the shrubs are doing well. They will not replace the few that died. We spent a lot of money, and after such a short amount of time they could have made it right with just a few shrubs. If I had to do it again I'd go to Home Depot or Lowe's. Much better pricing and comes with a warranty.

I was impressed by the size of this nursery, the variety of trees, sizes available for purchase, health of the plants and soil they come in, and of course, Maribel, who has been so helpful and patient while I design my landscape. Maribel helped us choose trees that were within our budget, showed us how to trim them, and helped us with design ideas for our space. When I told her I needed fragrant trees, with small (non invasive root systems), that only grew a certain size, she quickly texted me a variety of choices, then drove us around her nursery showing us all the trees. She's incredibly knowledgeable, easy to work with, and is available always to answer our questions. She makes every member of my family feel special (especially my niece/nephew that have visited the nursery with me). When I show her pictures of what I'm looking to accomplish she can quickly tell me the names and characteristics of the plants I like. She's just amazing!!! They do not stand behind their work…read more Spent over $23,000 on landscaping and construction services from this company less than 2 years ago, and have had terrible service from the moment final payment was made. When Brandon (my contact) told me which plants they intended to install, I told him some wouldn't survive the hot, dry, full-sun location. He insisted they would work, and told me they all had a one-year guarantee. Within three months, when they started to die, I sent him photos and asked that they be replaced with others. Despite promises they would be changed (at least six times over the next few months), they were never replaced. Likewise, the artificial turf that was installed was not installed with enough/the right adhesive and the turf has become a serious tripping hazard. Again, calls to Brandon were met with promises that someone would come out to fix it, and no one ever did. Repeated messages were not returned. Last month an obviously broken irrigation pipe under the tile/artificial turf they installed caused flooding in my yard. When I called the company to ask for someone to come out to evaluate what could be done, Jordan told me Brandon no longer worked for the company. (I guess that explains why my messages weren't returned.) Jordan told me he was Brandon's replacement, and that he would be out in two days to take a look. 10 days later, he came out and confirmed it was a broken pipe, but said my warranty had expired and there would be a charge to repair the pipe. He told me it would require the large tiles and turf to be demolished to find the problem, but he'd send me an estimate. It's been over a month and again, I've been ghosted. I consulted another irrigation specialist who told me that if a pipe underground ha broken, it was likely cracked when it was installed. I hope this serves as a warning for anyone considering paying this company to do landscaping and installation.

Nothing is labeled, the price list is online, and good luck trying to use your cell phone. One will have a hard time navigating rows of plants that could resemble weeds unless you know what you're looking at, but that's extremely exciting to me seeing a tiny plant that later would turn in a beautiful specimen. If you did your homework on Calscape,, have a plan and a list, the owner is an excellent resource on growing natives, and he will help you pick out the best plants. I have bought here one gallon plants that have grown in 20' shrubs and many that have died because of my ignorance of caring for CA native plants like the plants you buy from Armstrong Nurseries, I overwatered, planted in the late spring-summer and used very little mulch. Sixteen years ago I bought here a couple of Matillija poppies plants in one gallon pot, that did horribly in the beginning thrusted in my nasty compacted clay soil but later that fall were transplanted in fallen rock hillside and now they cover a entire hillside. The plants here are wonderful but like most gardeners I'm really impatient and want to hurry nature up to look like Santa Barbara botanic garden. Bob has his own variety of local Ceanothus that I can't wait to see bloom in my garden. FYI, I have planted about 500 natives, likely many, many more plants purchased from all over LA/ Ventura/ Santa Barbara nurseries. I killed a lot of natives, to the sorrow of my wallet as these plants cost $12-45 depending on the species. I continue to try my best to introduce native CA locally sourced plants with the scope of helping local ecology, save money on irrigation and possibly avert the fire reaching my house. Also, Bob's plants are really inexpensive compared to other nurseries, unless you get smart and buy most plants in 4" pots, but you won't find these here. I don't get carried away buying a plant unless I think it will thrive in my garden, experimentation leads to a lot of disappointments, unless you are blessed with great draining soil and have full sun and available water. The plants here are $8 for one gallon, a great price specifically if you get something a bit more established. Ask Bob if your desired plant been recently transplanted. And Bob is right, visit the Santa Barbara botanical garden; it is the best inspiration because looking at newly sowed plants you'll never guess how big or invasive they will get. This place is a treasure and consider yourself lucky if you're close by, as you could do your plant purchasing in stages since most CA nurseries won't have a complete planting list.
