I am so glad I didn't do the usual 33 because I discovered Pesci's Pizza on the cusp of Clarence and Williamsville. Going through some of the smaller towns, we were watching for pizza places to stop for take home. Often not spotted before passing, I decided I wanted a place seen early enough to obviate turning around. Shortly before Transit Rd, daughter said "There's Pesci's!" pointing to my left. I said "I like Joe Pesci," checked mirrors and swung into the left turn lane. Kismet. First thing to notice as I pulled into a parking slot in front of the business was how busy they were. A good sign. The entry door is between ... two storefronts? on the left is Pesci's Pizza & Wings, lots of smaller signs for specials and notes of interest. On the right... all clear glass window where you can watch all these people making pizzas. After we'd gone in and placed orders... and noticed how young the cashier and order taker were... we went back to wait in car-- only then noticing how young all the pizza makers were. I experienced the sensation of watching an ant farm in action. That sounds silly now, but I was stunned watching how each person had their function, how they operated as a team, how efficient and productive the overall operation appeared. After I got home and had a chance to examine the box and its contents (which, btw, was one of the best pizzas ever), I saw how they had messages all over the box, no wasted space. Pesci's was apparently started by "two yutes," possibly from Brooklyn? Google suggested a "yute" was slang for "youth." Ahhh. Well, alla dem yutes make some bodacious pizza. Next time I'm returnng to Buffalo from the east, I'm taking Rt 5.

DO NOT SLEEP ON PAPA's PIZZA OVEN!…read more 10/10, food and experience, you will not be disappointed, I promise! . 1) SAUCE: They offer two standard red pizza sauces (other specialty options, but we're just talking standard for now) - if you like a sweet sauce PLEASE order here! I have no words for how delicious it is. The saucey, cheesy edges get a little carmelization from the method that they form and bake their pizza and it all comes together in this amazingly balanced , tradition Buffalo pie. 2) DOUGH: perfectly done, imo, Buffalo-style. Not too thick but not thin, cooked fast and hot and gives that slight but great char we love from the likes of OG Imperial and Bocce. But it's Papa's time NOW! The cheesy saucy edges get melty and a little charred over the perfect crusty edges and THAT is what pizza dreams are made of. 3) CHEESE: plentiful, fresh and baked to perfection with a fantastic pull. They put enough that you don't have a bite without just the right amount of cheese but not a crazy amount that is thick and loses its taste. Papa's is all about balance. ‍ 4) TOPPINGS!: ABUNDANT!! Do not wonder if you need to order double-anything to have the right amount of toppings - and by right amount I mean every bite. Pepperoni- cup & char bc Buffalo For the mushroom enthusiasts, they use a plentiful amount of the jarred 'shrooms, which I happen to think are elite on pizza bc they do not dry out. Before you send the mushroom police for me, jarred mushrooms and sautéed mushrooms (I know of only 2 places in the world that puts this on pizza as a standard) are the best on pizza, but you can try and prove me wrong. 5) Wings: a Buffalo girl's review - fresh, definitely one of the heftier sized wings, homemade blue cheese that is hella flavourful and also available by the large tub for fans like us. Their portion is large per order of wings comparatively in the area and it is DELISH. Their wing flavours are delicious- mild is very mild but incredibly tasty, Medium is a solid mild + a smidge hotter if you are wondering. The wet Cajun wings are out of this world and rival the Cajun wings at Elmo's. SO GOOD! 6) Last but not least the STAFF! I don't know anyone that works there, but they treat you like friends when you walk in the door. On the phone, the guy that most often answers is so nice, pays attention and never misses and sounds HAPPY to make your pie. We asked for extra sweet sauce via phone bc I ordered for my Mom to deliver to her and couldn't find it on Doordash, he was so kind and helpful! And he's like that EVERY TIME. It makes such a difference. The prices are good, the food is always fresh and beyond tasty and we crave this pizza .. which honestly hasn't happened in a long time. If you're looking to sit down, there are seats for pickup wait, but no dine in option at this time. Papa's Pizza Oven = Pizza Perfection for us. We hope you'll give them a try real soon! We went with the regular sauce (they also have a sweet sauce but we both dislike sweet sauce). It was great! The pizza was well done with nicely cup and char pepperoni, and the cheese were good quality (Sorrento now rebranded as Galbani) unlike some pizza places that use subpar mozzarella cheese. There was definitely double cheese and double pepperoni, but we both agreed that it was just too much cheese and next time we would just get regular cheese but still with double pepperoni. Well, there was a Sunday Bills game a few weeks later so we decided to call ahead to place an order with the double pepperoni. We called on Saturday morning and paid over the phone and everything. Planned pickup around halftime so hubby could go pick it up. We got home and were severely disappointed. It looked like double cheese with regular pepperoni, and the pizza looked undercooked where there was absolutely no char on the cheese or the pepperoni. At that price point, we decided to call and complain (which is something we pretty much never do). They offered to make us a new one and we offered to bring back the bad one, but they said to keep it or toss it. Hangry Hubby left during the second half to go pick up the second pizza which he opened to see while there and it looked the same as the first one! It was busy and by that point he was mentally done.
