After many aattempts at finding a groomer for my little Jackson, I was lucky enough to learn about Dineen Campbell and "Pampered Pooch." Not only is she a wonderful groomer and friend, she is clearly someone who loves dogs -- hers and everyone else's. Jackson loves her back, and it's no wonder. Danyne , the proprietor, is the best! We took our cockapoo, Amber, to her for nearly 14 years. The grooming, of course, was always done masterfully but that was just the beginning. Our dog was extremely skittish and aggressive toward other dogs but Danyne always managed to calm her. Danyne has a deep empathy and understanding of dogs. Over the years, Danyne also dispensed lots of knowledgeable and thoughtful advice regarding behavioral and medical issues (she has many years 'experience working in veterinary practices.) She was often more useful and informative than our vet. Our little, loving dog died recently. She had a long and happy life. Danyne was an important part of that. We're grateful. read more

I had not one, but multiple awful experiences at the Pampered Pooch. My first impression of the owner was she was very direct and has a 'know it all" attitude. I guess she knows how to cut dogs hair - but she does NOT know how to be nice to people. The owner thinks very highly of herself and was extremely rude when talking about how to cut my dogs hair - I only wanted a simple, basic cut! I understand you may want the dogs hair cut a certain way, but you would think she would have some respect for how the owner wants it cut. Every time I walked in I had to deal with a rude owner - I was afraid to say anything to the woman! I took my dog home and he had dried blood on him from buzzer cuts, but I still gave the place another try and still got the same results: cuts on my dog, and a rude owner! I never said anything about the cuts, as that could be the normal hair cutting process, and the final cut itself was done pretty well (after a lot of back and forth with the owner). It was just very surprising to me that every time I spoke to the woman, she acted like she deserves a metal for being some kind of a dog guru. (??) I was always very polite to the owner, but she was not the same back to me and I am not sure why. It may be the way she treats all of her clients. I hope not. I personally will never go back to the Pampered Pooch or recommend it. I would prefer to go somewhere with owners who are not unnecessarily rude to their customers. read more

A bit of back-story is required here to explain what on earth possessed me to patronize The Pampered Pooch. If you were to ask him, Maxwell Chin would unflinchingly inform you that he is, in fact, a ferocious lion, unable to be tamed, restrained, or otherwise swayed from his jungle instincts. If you'd ever been trampled during one of his prowls, you'd be inclined to believe him due to his gigantic, razor-sharp wolverine-esque claws. Max is a large cat; not exceedingly fat, but thick and large, tall and strong. No mere house cat, Maxwell Chin isn't beholden to the domesticated feline's sensibilities pertaining to grooming, either. Subsequently, he became overgrown with 'under-coat' and grooming himself became more than he could handle. This also meant that sometimes our precious little kitty - I mean our vicious, fearsome lion - tended to be... well... smelly. The vet recommended The Pampered Pooch, as he knew the proprietor from many years back when she saved the life of a dog who had been struck by a car. She has worked with animals for many years, has a strong background, etc. We hesitated slightly because Max is afraid of strangers. He crouches low and, if possible, burrows into a hiding place until he has ascertained that the Stranger Threat Level has returned to a sunny yellow or a calm blue. Also, did I mention that Max is strong? Because he is. I have no doubt that if he were so inclined, he could single-handedly push-start a stalled vehicle with a family of four inside. He's *that* strong. If he doesn't want to be held or restrained, he won't be, and he won't even have to resort to using those swords he has protruding from his paws. Cautiously, we took Maxwell Chin to be groomed. When we left him at The Pampered Pooch, he was his usual imposing presence. What magic occurred during his visit may never be revealed, but its effect was obvious and dramatic: Max was half his former self! He was clean and soft, smelled like a kitten, barely shed for weeks, and was on the whole, irresistibly handsome! His paws, which typically tend to hover near the 'brown' area of the color spectrum, were soft and pink and demanded to be kissed! His weapons of mass destruction had been effectively defused and we didn't need to live in fear of accidental puncture, gouging, scratching, bleeding, or shredding. Max walked taller; less swagger, more strut. He was a whole new cat - and he *knew* it. read more

they do a good job grooming the dogs, they do. however, the service is out of this world bad. especially the owner - a crazy blonde lady who yells at all her customers. excellent customer service is not at all on her mind.. so we stopped going. she is very rude, rolling her eyes, point at people, no smiles, yells, condescending. i mean Wow. good luck with that kind of attitude in today's economy! you just lost 2 dog customers. read more

My husband and I are in the market for a new groomer, our previous one having retired after 12 years. We went to check out Pampered Pooch today and were dismayed at the marginally controlled chaos of six or eight dogs running free, some lifting their legs and marking parts of the facility, while Danyne and her assistant were attending to dogs on the table being groomed and oblivious to the canine chaos. The place just didn't seem clean to us. And when we asked some questions - about Danyne's experience, about whether the dogs were paid attention to for signs of disruption by a new member who showed dominant behavior, we were told that we had an "attitude" and were unlikely to be happy with her skill, that she was offended by our questions, and basically could be please take our business elsewhere (!!!). This, after we were invited to come see the facility and ask questions!! Needless to say, this was our first and last experience with the Pampered Pooch. read more

Danyne is a very no-nonsense person with a long background running veterinary offices prior to opening her grooming business. As such, she's great at identifying when a pup might be having an issue, and is excellent with dogs in general - they really respect her as the pack leader, no matter what their attitude is otherwise. We've been bringing our dog here for a couple years now, and she does an excellent job with him in terms of cleaning. He loves being there, too, with his doggy buddies, and is chomping at the bit to get inside when he realizes where we are. There is a designated, large playroom where the dogs can frolic (supervised by her staff) with a bunch of toys, and when it's nice out, a securely fenced-in area in the back where they can come and go to enjoy the outdoors a bit. The Doggy Daycare is a cheap add-on to the grooming, and lets our guy socialize while also freeing us up to not have to leave work to go get him. Overall: go here, there are few places left which are independent, and the reason she stays in business is because she's really good at what she does, and the pups love it there. read more

I didn't like the way she handled my puppy ... just a bit too rough for my liking. It's a long story, but I won't be back. Perhaps this place is just better for older dogs. I also think it could be cleaner. read more

Well if you have followed my YELPS you know that I am probably the world's largest NON FAN of the big superstore PET clubs based on my past experiences. So on the recommendation of one of my clients who happens to be a VET, I discovered the hidden gem in BELMONT. A small privately owned business in the heart of Belmont, this SUPERSTAR of pet groomers needs an award! First of all, when I booked the appointment there must have been a bit of miscommunication and my # number was jotted down incorrectly. Upon needing to reschedule, the staff jumped thru hoops to locate me and ensure my pooch was taken care. After speaking on the phone with the business owner for an informal interview regarding my horse, I mean St Bernard, Zeus...she informed me...with a comforting voice, no worries your dog is welcomed here! Not only did Danyne and her staff do the most amazing grooming on my 160lb beast..I mean pumpkindoodle...but she gave me some tips and made me feel as if Ive known her and her staff for years! ~STANDING OVATION~ to you and your staff for making a PAYING customer feel welcomed and taking the time to listen to my concerns. Oh..NOT TO MENTION....for doing one FANTASTIC JOB! My Angel looks marvelous! When I picked him up he was happy but not over excited and anxious. This btw was always the norm when I retrieved him from PETSMART and the suedo groomers....who had no people or pet skills. Danyne may be a small framed indivual but she is a POWER-HOUSE!...not only as a business owner but as the Dog Whisper of Belmont! Ooops before I forget...her place was CLEAN!!!!!!!!!! and can I stress CLEAN...the pups she was sitting for where happy and running around content and full of energy! I will be sure to come back! Hopefully I can convince her to see my Lycan (the 11lb chihuhua we have lovingly nicknamed the FrenchHo) who's nails are so long because he was abused prior to us adopting him. No one including my current vet, 300lb brother...and previous groomers have been successful without drawing blood and demanding we NEVER COME BACK! LOL read more

My name is Gucci the Poochie. I'm an 9 pound Coton , who until recently looked like a mop left in the corner of aunt Bessie's cellar. I had mats upon twisted and tangled mats because I had the personality of a Tasmanian Devil on crack ! Other groomers just gave up ! Daddy brought me to the Pampered Pooch on 125 Beech St. In Belmont, Ma because he had heard she "had the touch". I was all set for combat but she kept looking me in the eyes ( from 4 inches away ! ) and I don't know what happened but she talked so soothingly to me that I let her clip away that mess and uncover a happy little puppy ( I'm 12 but feel much younger since I've had a " little work done" ). Danyne has Dramatically improved my life........I have more energy, a better attitude and now eat 3 meals a a day. I've never gotten along well with other dogs ( they're all so big and scary) but @ PP the other dogs were a friendly bunch ! Thank you Danyne for sending that Tasmanian Devil back to the cartoons and finding that cute little dog that I was years ago. Mommy and Daddy are delighted to have me back home. Wow. Danyne and her staff are amazing. Nilou, my 10-yr. old Westie, hates groomers. Danyne not only gave her a fantastic hair cut (best ever), she took time to talk to me about her anxiety and general health. I've been taking my dog to Danyne for several years. I found her after trying several other places that either terrified my dog, or had her coming back with cuts on her belly. Danyne is the Dog Whisperer. She loves them and she understands them and she talks to them! She is the first groomer to ever have calmed my dog down. She is incredibly knowledgeable, from her many years in the business and her previous vet experiences. When the vets were suggesting TECA surgery--which I didn't want to do-- it was Danyne who told me when it had to be done, for the health and painfree existence of my dog. She is also the BEST groomer! My cocker spaniel looks like a show dog every time we leave and she is soft and smells wonderfully! Danyne is the best. I've always owned dogs and I've never found anyone who is so good to the dog and has their well being 100% on her mind. If you want your dog to get the best care and attention--instead of YOU being stroked and the dog not being cared for--she is the one you want. read more

I'm definitely a fan of Pampered Pooch. Danyne and her staff always do a great job on my poma-poo. They're not just groomers, they're stylists. LOL!! It's true. There IS a difference. Danyne is really knowledgeable and helpful (she gave me lots of good info to prevent/fight fleas). And, there are often lots of other dogs there, so your dog can get groomed and have a play date too. read more

I found the staff to be incredibly rude, almost to the point of disrespect. It's amazing people still patronize this business, because of the owner's condescending manner, and general lack of niceness. My two dogs wash and cut, was at best mediocre. I would never go back to this place again. read more

I gently wash my dog's paws after he gets groomed, because he always gets itchy paws afterwards--I don't know if it's the products they use or the towels they use to dry him off. So one day, after getting groomed at Pampered Pooch, I washed his paws, with warm water. I let him go and he started running around the house. Then I noticed blood on the carpet and blood on one of his paws. When I picked him up to examine what was happening, assuming he had gotten one of his nails caught on something, I saw that one of his claws had been cut SO SHORT. Like it wasn't just a nick, which sometimes happens, but it was much shorter than the rest, and obviously must have been so painful for my poor pup. I'm assuming they had used those blood clotting powder thingies and when I put him in the water and he started running around, the bleeding started again. I won't be bring him back. It's unacceptable to be so careless, when they're supposed to be professionals. A positive, I suppose, is she does groom him adorably, but really, I won't be taking the chance again. One last thing, the dogs are not separated. They're let loose, and she didn't ask me for his health papers, so I'm assuming she didn't ask other owners either, so who knows if these dogs are up-to-date on their shots, or if some have contagious diseases. I found Pampered Pooch after trying out a couple of different places that I just felt didn't have as much experience. A place can look perfect or be a huge place or chain & doesn't mean anything if they're not experienced. My 2 dachshunds are my babies & my everything & I feel really great knowing each time I bring them to Danyne for their nail trims they are less & less nervous. They have been traumatized in the past because they have really dark nails and if somebody doesn't know what they're doing they easily would end up with bleeders. I have never seen their nails shaped so good & never have we gone this many times in a row without having a single bleeder, but at the same time their nails are getting cut. Danyne is very knowledgeable when it comes to dogs & I'm a person that doesn't like people to beat around the bush and to be straightforward with things and I get that from her. A lot of places people are fake & inexperienced, here I know I'm getting good care, advice & she tells me like it is or things I should or shouldn't do & she's the professional so I'm good with that. read more

I have been using Pampered Pooch for the last 5 years and have been very pleased. The dogs are never put in cages, but allowed to roam the store and the extra space next door (some dogs go here for day care). Danyne has very good control over all the dogs. Danyne will give you a pick up time when you drop off your dog and will call if she is done early. My dog is fully washed and groomed in about 2 hours. If you need extra time to get there (even an hour or 2), it isn't a problem. Two caveats - she is very busy and you often have to wait 1 month for an appointment, so call ahead, and I would not recommend for very anxious dogs or dogs that don't get along with other dogs because of the freedom the dogs. read more

I should have listened to my gut when it told me something was wrong with this place. I had my dog groomed here for a good 2 years. I recently decided I had enough after the owner was continually rude towards me. I gave the groomer the benefit of the doubt for awhile thinking perhaps she was an animal person and didn't get along with humans (silly, I know). My biggest signal should've been when my dog was groomed and the following day was extremely sick. I won't get into the gross details but it turns out she had colitis. The vet said the colitis was likely caused by a high stressed experience at the groomer. That should've been my biggest signal! She would never listen to me on how I wanted my dog's haircut. I felt like it had to be her way, and she would get annoyed if I requested something else. I am the customer! The place is always a mad house in there - too many dogs, not separating large/small dogs, and a grumpy owner who thinks she is above everyone else who owns a dog. I also could never get an appointment, always booked solid. I do not understand why she is always so booked with such a bad business personality! Please, before sending your dogs here do your research and find a high quality groomer that suits the needs of your dog. High quality groomers are hard to come by, but our dogs most certainly deserve to be in a healthy environment. read more

I wanted to try a new groomer. Through the years, I used the same groomer for all my dogs. Everytime my dogs were groomed, the final result was always a surprise. Usually, not a very good surprise. So, going by the advise of my friend I tried pampered Pooch. His advice is some of the best advice I've ever got. He difinitely deserves a present. When i entered Pampered Pooch, I was expecting the same hurried handoff like the other place. I was very wrong. Danye spent time brainstorming with me about how my dogs should be cut. I felt confident they were in good hands. Also, unlike other groomers who put the dogs in cages, there is a little posse of dogs who get to play and chill out under supervision at Pampered Pooch. I loved it. This also helped ease any anxiety that my dogs were having. It is a very good and healthy concept for dogs. Upon picking up my dogs, I have never been so happy with they way they were groomed. They looked awesome!!!! One of my dogs was so relaxed in a chair she didn't even notice I had come to pick her up. Also, when I was handed their leash they were happy to see me, but very relaxed also. Not pulling me to get the hell out. If I'm completely happy with an establishment that cares for my dogs, that says alot. I'm super critical, must be the Virgo in me. I felt safe leaving them, happy knowing they were with the pack, and relieved to know that they were going to come out looking great. I am very happy. I haven't stopped talking about the place. read more
