We were told it would be a quick 3-day job and the PM will be present each day. 3-days turned into 5 and we had to modify our work schedules. As far as the quality of work, the gentlemen did a fabulous job, only concern was the lack of clean up after each working day. Materials and food items were just randomly left about in the backyard. Ridiculously overpriced and very aggressive sales tactic. They send a guy over leaving flyers at our doors, and then present info that makes it seem like they've secured work with the neighbors. After that, the sales team took about 2.5hours to get us the quote, and most of that time was spent on one of their salesmen talking about their dog/kid. It felt very disingenuous and was a total waste of our time. They gave us an insanely high quote, then tried to pressure us to lock in the "discounted" price within 1 hr or risk losing it. We told them we will think it over and don't mind losing that discount price. When we told them that we had another appointment to make; they questioned it and kept stalling and didn't leave our home until we reiterated that we were already running late. We told them to just give us a call but they returned to our home that evening, again trying to convince us that they have found other discounts for us. Then the next few days, they kept calling me. Seriously, the worst experience I have ever had and I don't recommend them at all. I will not be using their services and will instead be going with their competitor. read more

Our sales rep from Palm Construction, Shaked, was an exceptional communicator. I ended up very much respecting that he honored his word; that we would be satisfied at the completion of our project and we were. For our 770 sq foot waterproof deck replacement over our garage we had 4 different quotes. Each of the four companies were licensed and each used similar sales techniques; setting appointment only with both decision makers present, as an example. On a related side note I am a licensed tradesman so I am savvy to most of these sales techniques and each of the four companies that came to our home, were Angie's List referred, and tried at least one or more of these "hard sell" tactics on myself and my partner. Resist the hard sell. Home Improvement reps are usually trained in these tactics so get past these to focus on only your concerns. Take the time you need to come to a decision and if you feel rushed by a rep I take it is a red flag. I urge homeowners to avail themselves of the California State Contractor License Board resources for consumers and follow their guidance to the letter to protect yourself. Their website has all the forms you need; release of lien on payment, worker comp etc. and current license info. Back to Palm Construction Shaked answered all my questions and concerns throughout. At my request he provided references. I spoke to 3 of the 6 customer references and was very specific in my questions and satisfied. This project was a big dollar investment for us $30,000. We had to be comfortable in spending our hard earned money. Palm Construction was right in the middle cost wise. The crew for demolition and installation of the decking layers were diligent. I want to especially commend the crew for the waterproof and finish layers led by Daniel. These guys went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. We are no longer dreading the next rainstorm and feel we got a resilient and beautiful deck job at a reasonable price. read more
