If I get banned for taking selfies in the beds, it's a Palm Beach Ban. Pretty bad experience at this popular and very long, skinny tanning salon with a particularly aggressive young male serving me, or rather not. It was extremely unfriendly and he tried everything he could to stop me from tanning at this lotion and even told me that my lotion wasn't good enough and inspected my eye-wear for way too many seconds (even prodding them) as if there might be something wrong with them. These heavy duty sales people need to back off. The tan was fine, though. I was upset at the time, and found this that I wrote: So this is the third location of Palm Beach Tan that I've used since I switched over met membership and I think it's probably my least favourite experience of the three even though it was pretty straightforward and the bed was fine and worked well. Mainly because the employee who checked me in was not my favourite. He was being judgy. The kind of know-it-all type of person who has a lot to say and anything that you do is wrong and anything that he does is right. There are signs all over saying that we will check your eyewear but nevertheless I mean a little bit overkill with the hand inspection of my stuff. Secondly he says it's a 12-minute bed but we just put new bulbs in so we're letting people go for 8 or 10 - psh. I don't believe a word of it. If it's a 12 minute bed it's a 12 minute bed. But that's fine, I went for 10 and he gave me 8. Great. And then the worst part of it was the upselling. He asked to see my lotion. I showed him my lotion and I've never been asked to show that before. He said oh that's the cheap kind when you use that gets all over the tanning bed and you have to clean out the gunk and it's not really doing its job and blah blah blah blah blah blah and it really rubbed me the wrong way - I mean I'm not stupid I know exactly what the point was - which is that he tried to start selling me some tanning lotions which clearly he gets a commission off of. He made a pretty good effort at it and wasted a bunch of my time that I didn't really have although it didn't end up costing me anything because I did manage to make it to the last couple of places I was trying to get to. Shame that I couldn't have been served by the employee girl that was leaving who was friendly and covered in tattoos and perfect makeup and definitely would have been nicer to me. I didn't even ask the guy for extra time to get ready even though I needed it because firstly I was in a hurry but secondly everything was such a melodrama to check in here so I just wanted to avoid it and I missed a little bit of my tanning because of that. read more

These people sneak in up-charges all the time, act surprised when called out on it, and then explain each add-on is necessary to getting a good tan. The perk of this place used to be that it's an easy, no appointment needed, moderate quality cheap spray tan. I asked why my spray tan was continually going up each time and the answer was "taxes have probably gone up"... that's not a good reason for a $25 difference. They're not transparent with pricing and WILL NOT STOP UPSELLING-- I had to say "no thanks" 4 times and it made me uncomfortable. I will never be back now that they tricked me into paying $60 for an average spray. I also watched another girl come in to try to cancel her membership and the staff member acted like it was the end of the world-- it was so inappropriate. Give your business to Gorgeous Glo or Organic Spray-- they do a way better job, have non toxic product, and generally are better business people. read more

awful experience yesterday (got there at 7 pm 10/29/25). i went in to redeem a free services offer on a spray tan and was told i couldn't since i was a returning customer. well i checked the email again today and it's for new OR returning customers.... so she lied. anyway, after the free services offer was denied, i was duped into buying a 3 pack of spray tans for $60. then told AFTER purchasing that it was only valid for 45 days and then somehow my total jumped from 60 + tax to $70 + tax. i was also weighing a single spray vs the package and asked how much 1 would be and was told $50. so the package made a lot more sense to purchase. BUT, after i was done getting sprayed, i heard the other girl working tell another customer it was only $30. also waited an hour to get into the booth (again told the wait time AFTER purchasing). so in summary, the employee lied multiple times and withheld a lot of important information in order to upsell me and my friend. spray tan also didnt turn out well (couldve done better myself using self tan and mitt). there are identical white streaks all over my body that must have been from the sprayer not working correctly bc they are all the same shape/width/length in different spots on me so it couldn't have been water/liquid that i got on the tan. wish i could never return, but i have 2 tans i already paid for... but would NOT recommend coming here read more

Don't go here the manager makes things up in order to try and upsell products and talks down to customers. Tanning equipment needs to be updated the Ergoline Open Sun 1050 is over 10 years old and should not be in their "Diamond" package. Also, I'm waiting for Palm Beach Tan to tell me what NC Regulation says that a tanning salon is not allowed to let us tan for more than 5 minutes because of new bulbs and being a new client. Ridiculous policy that can't be overridden.... I understand a 24 hour tanning window, but when that can't be overridden when a customer is within 15 minutes of the expiration makes little sense. Especially when the attendant tells me it's for my safety?!? Tanning services are ubiquitous with no real difference between salons. I was a member of Palm Beach in a different state and it was great. In Charlotte I have yet to even have an ok experience. I wanted to join to be a member so I went 1.5 hours before closing to this salon. They said, "sorry , we are full today and we do not take appointments." I said that I wanted to become a member and she restated the same sentence about being full. She could not help me evidently. There was no one in the lobby waiting and I could see no line. So after not finding another company I visited a different location. They told me that all of the locations have the verse spa booths (which is what I prefer), but that the like their other booth better. I decided to give it a try (btw: it's an up charge every time you go, even as a member) and it did not last at all. It all came off after my first shower the next day. This location was further from me, so I went to the Woodlawn location for the next spray. I asked to use the Versa and they said they and one other location is the only locations that have them and theirs is broken and will not be fixed any time soon. So I did their version again, paid more again and bought a new primer. The primer has been used, opened and it was leaking, and when I realized it (I had not left the front desk), the woman asked if I could just come get another one on a different day because she did not know how to refund it. I told her no. It took 45 minutes to get someone to help her refund it. I again tried their spray tan and it again washed right off the next day. So for my next spray, I drive to the other location with the Versa. It's a 35 minute drive. I get there and the two people working do not know how to use the Versa machine. They said they had no one to call and ask and literally handed me the sheet of paper with codes on it and asked if I knew. For my 4th, I went back to the Woodlawn one, it's the closest to me. The Versa is still broken and they said the regional manager is refusing to figure out when it can get fixed. So I asked for advice on theirs and why it washes off. She said, oh that happens to a few of my friends too with this one. What?! So instead of paying the up charges again, I asked if they had a clear solution or one that you don't have to add color to. Her answer was "we do if you're ok looking like an Oompa Loompa." I am guessing they get commission on their add ons, but this is crazy! I will be finding a new membership somewhere else because the service is just awful and their booths do not work. read more

This is my first Yelp review because of how frustrated I am with this place. I cannot echo what other reviews have said about the pushy-ness from the front desk enough. They must be paid entirely on how much they can upsell their customers. I have also been told that a tan will look awful if I don't pay extra for their additives. I finally started asking for the ONE "necessary" additive and every time I would come in they would say "okay your usual 2 additives" - trying to get me to buy more. On top of the front desk, I finally had it and decided to freeze my account but I still got charged the following month. I wish I could give this place zero stars. I'm getting married in less than two weeks and wanted to go tanning before my wedding to avoid tan lines in my dress. Not having been here since Saturday (today is Monday), I show up, ready to tan and the manager refuses to let me because he says "my face is a little red". Was a member here for a few months to get tan before a vacation. A few of the front desk staff don't understand social queues and will talk nonstop for 3+ awkward minutes trying to push you into buying expensive tanning products without letting you get a word in. You have to awkwardly stand there until they stop to say no thank you while a line forms behind you. You also are required to cancel membership in person instead of over the phone (no biggie). I went in to cancel and she said you're all good, I was like okay that's it? Do I get email confirmation? She said yup you'll get an email have a great day! I left. I never got email confirmation so called back the next day to make sure it was canceled and the manager said "yeah my employee told me you came in and cancelled and just walked out." LOL as if I was a rude customer???? Apparently there were forms I needed to fill out, but it was the girl's first day. Somehow that's my fault???? Definitely won't be returning. As busy as I am, the possibility of finding time to lay out in the sun is next to impossible. I started going to this particular Palm Beach Tan two years ago in preparation for my (first) trip to Hawaii. The facilities are very clean and cheerful (bright yellow and blue colors) and I got the tan I wanted without much effort on my part. During my weeks of tanning, I discovered something else, though: the sessions were therapeutic. After working all day, I'd go there and lay for 10-15 minutes on a tanning bed with nobody talking, no computer screen to look at, and absolutely nothing to do. I was forced to relax. I found myself getting a well-needed break and, oft times, falling asleep! I left not only getting tanned, but getting rejuventated! I started up again this past summer in preparation for my trip to Acapulco. During the winters, I can go on "break" so I don't have to sign up again for new membership. I only get charged $5/month and then I get that money back (towards my fees) when I start going again. Plus, their hours are such that you could go almost any time you want. I'm a sales rep, so I pop into all the PBT locations randomly, mostly on my lunch break. This one is the worst. I pay a monthly membership. Just let me go in, say what I want, and let me be. I'm there for 20 minutes EVERY SINGLE VISIT. "No I'm good". "No thank you". "Just want a spray tan". "Still no". "Maybe next time". I get the upsell thing, the commission thing. But learn how to READ people and back off. read more

I literally started driving out of my way to go to other PBT locations just to not have to deal with one male staff member in particular and how demeaning he can be. Received an advertisement for a Free Week of Tanning. I went into this location and they politely informed me that it's only for "new clients only" which was not stated on the coupon. I have never been to this location ever before in my life, but apparently I have been another location of PBT years ago. I do understand that the coupon says "See salon for details", but if the "new client only" requirement applies to all PBT locations then it would have been nice to have included that statement in the fine print of the advertisement. read more

As a long standing customer who tans intermittently, I freeze my account after my occasional use. I have done this for nearly a decade and upon my last visit (in Feb 2022), I let the woman assisting me know (before tanning and while reactivating my account temporarily) that I would like to have my account frozen on the first of the following month. She told me that that would not be a problem.... I reviewed my bank account last night and noticed that they have been charging me the full amount for the last FOUR months and not just the minimal amount to keep an active account frozen. I called to let the store know and they told me that I could have essentially a "store credit" on my account, to be used only at their business, for $140. I let them know that I preferred a refund less the amount monthly to freeze my account since it was an employee error and that I should not be held responsible for the employee not doing what they were asked and assured me would be completed. They referred me to Corporate - I spoke to a woman who was incredibly condescending and told me that I should have known that I needed to sign to freeze my account and that all they could offer me was the account credit. This was an employee error and I should not be held accountable to know their employee procedures for freezing and unfreezing an account. Do not spend your money here - their mistakes will be at your full expense. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been going here for 15 years and they continue to upgrade equipment, and offer loyal customer rewards. It is a bit pricy, but you can't beat the quality of the beds, customer service (off the charts!), and cleanliness. I pay for the highest level beds, I have naturally dark skin so I tan easily and 10mins a week gets the job done for me :) I love the pool and beach in summer so I put my account on "stay n save" every year, you pay a very small monthly fee and then that applies to your account when you reactivate. read more

I haven't been to this salon so as they were taking my information I hear another employee telling a customer she needs face lotion. She very nicely said I'm not interested, he kept going. Then, when she said again she really wasn't interested, he got forceful and in a RUDE tone said she needed it and how he is training and has to do this. Understandable, but when she said she wasn't interested, it was time to stop and politely say ok! As I would have done as well, she walked out. Well..... I don't spend a lot of time in tanning salons I do splurge with a spray tan to cover my pasty whiteness while on vacation. After booking over 2 weeks ago and the manager promising that a spray tech will be coming in early (10:30am) on a Saturday to make sure I got the perfect vacation tan I though what great service! Fast forward to the actual day.... the tan was DOUBLE the quoted price over the phone. ($30 to $66) "for the lotion" $30 EXTRA dollars for lotion! Whatever i still NEEDED the spray tan. Now it's almost 11am (30mins past my appointment time) and the technician DID NOT SHOW! So thank you Palm Beach for having me scramble after trying to plan. I will never be coming back there. The actual worst. I've been a member for years in other locations and the last few months every time I come to spray I am there for at least 30 minutes. The front desk is so focused on trying to upsell and convince people to buy packets of lotion that they forget about cleaning beds and the paying customers waiting. Very pushy up selling products and higher level beds than you tell them you are interested in. So I caved and bought a face lotion, and upgraded one level. I tanned a total of 4 times and felt the higher level beds did nothing but toast my face. I didn't even use the face tanners the second two times because they felt so hot on my face only. My 4th visit, I used a lower level stand up which burned me from the waist up (pink, not red, so it faded over a few days) nothing on my legs though. I then went on vacation. Spent one day of it boating. Nearly two weeks after I returned from vacation, I went in to try to tone down my farmers tan from vacation. It had been 12 days since I had been in the sun. When I went in, the front desk person said I couldn't tan because my face and neck looked a bit red. I explained to him that I hadn't been in the sun in nearly two weeks and I had not gotten burned on vacation, but he didn't care and said I could "come back tomorrow". Side note - if I WERE sunburned, what magic would happen over night so that tomorrow would be fine?? He even asked if I was using the indoor products when I was outside in the sun and I told him no, I use sunscreen outdoors and he told me I SHOULD use their products in the actual sun. Which brings me to today and these products - I had applied the facial lotion that he had sold me on day 1, before I left home to run errands because I was going to stop and tan, and I don't like "racing" the start timer for the bed. As stated, he didn't let me tan. By dinner time, my face felt hot and it was very red, it's the God awful lotion he said I NEEDED to use. Turns out it is an "Intensifier", and in the fine print on the back it mentions giving you a "youthful glow". It also has a warning on it that it offers no protection for sunburn (and he said I should use this outdoors instead of sunscreen). So, long story summed up - use the products they pressure you to buy and to use, and then be turned away from tanning when they make your skin red because they will assume you are sunburned, no matter what you say. If a grown woman tells you that she is not sunburned and has not been in the sun for however long, believe her instead of treating her like a child and wasting her time. Not worth the hassle. Won't be back. And they don't actually return much of anything when you cancel within 30 days. read more

I had a coupon for free tanning for a week or 20% off a package. I never tan so I just wanted to use the free week before going to the beach for my anniversary. The young skinny girl at the counter was so passive aggressive when I told her I didn't want a package nor did I want lotion. She asked me at least ten times (seriously) if I wanted to buy lotion and I said no each time. The GM was standing beside her (checking someone in at the adjacent computer) the entire time this conversation took place so he was aware of how she was speaking to me. I would have walked out on the 10th time she asked if it weren't for the free coupon. She told me she would lose her job if I got burned and that I NEEDED lotion. (Lotions have 0 SPF). I did not buy lotion. Anyways, I wish I would have left when she was so rude because when I got out of the tanning bed I hit my pinky toe on an old rusty doorstop that wasn't even functional because the tanning bed blocked to door from opening enough to actually hit the door stop. It totally gashed my toe open and when I came out I told the girl who checked me in. She barely made eye contact as she said "sorry" and continued gathering used towels and glasses. My toe was soaked in blood. After calling corporate I was offered a free month long package by the GM who was very pleasant (hence the 2 stars, not 1). He said he would remove the doorstop immediately but I never checked to see if he did. Anyways, if you go (but I wouldn't)... Watch your toes and be firm when you say no to a lotion or package... And be prepared to say no 157 times. read more
