Didn't know what to expect coming here since my husband decided to try this place on a whim and I was blown away! It's a cute little ice cream shop with friendly caring customer service! We ordered the mangonada, milk-based coffee ice cream in a cup, and a watermelon popsicle. All 3 were so good! The ice cream scoop was very generous and so was the mangonada! Bookmarked and saved indefinitely. I've been here twice in the last week and I don't see myself slowing down anytime soon so I think it's pretty safe to say that it's probably one of my favorite ice cream shops now. I haven't tried anything other than their milk and water based popsicles, but from what I have tried...it's pretty darn amazing. They have a ton of flavors laid out and because of their variety it makes it that much harder to pick and choose. My favorite so far is probably the strawberries and crème popsicle. It melts fairly quickly (imo) but the creamy texture with REAL, frozen strawberry pieces are to die for. A couple others I've tried is the strawberry/kiwi (water) and coffee (milk) which were both OK. Although the shop is fairly big and roomy, there aren't any seating areas inside...so if you're here with a buddy expecting to sit and talk, you might want to reconsider. There is, however, a single bench right outside. Also, they don't allow the public to use their restrooms - even for paying customers. So if you really need to go, you can head over to the laundromat next door and use theirs for $0.25. TLDR; Paleteria Azteca truly puts the fresh in fresh fruits so go give them a try. PS. The paletas are delicious and so many flavors are offered here. Favorites were the pineapple with chili, watermelon, and the mango chamoy. I wish the service was a little more informative considering I was new and had some questions. I got answers but without added enthusiasm. I've been a patron since they opened, but my last visit was more than a little disappointing. This is the second time I visited since covid started. The flavor is noticeably different, it's a lot less nuanced. When I ordered cookies and cream in the past it tasted like the horchata base. Now it tastes like bland vanilla. This could be a supplier issue due to covid. I usually get a double scoop in a sugar cone, but they've stopped selling the sugar cones. I settled for a cake cone, and was warned it wouldn't fit. They did put a lot more ice cream than usual in my order so that was nice. however, they charged me for the cup on top of the inflated price of the cake cone. Cake cones are about his flavorful as styrofoam itself, so I felt this was really unfair. They did offer to refund me for the price of the cup when I said something, but for the price of this flavorless monstrosity I could have gotten three paletas. My total for this plus one paleta was $9. My daughter ordered a cookies and cream paleta, which tasted much better than my cookies and cream ice cream. They used to taste the same, except hers was dyed blue. I also found an enormous chunk of ice for the first time ever. Overall the scooped ice cream tastes very different, and much less rich and flavorful than what I've come to expect. I went back in to ask for something else, and the older gentleman behind the counter try to help me pick out another flavor, but he was very unkindly about the matter. This is my go to spot for paletas. They have some creative options as well, but I just stick to simple paletas. They have over 15+ flavors to choose from so you won't get tired of coming back. My favorite is the horchata/coffee as those are my 2 favorite things to drink. It was interesting as the horchata flavor is on the outside, and the coffee flavor is on the inside. Absolutely amazing service, my Mom sister and I drove over 30 minutes to come visit because we heard they were good and we were so pleased to see a local business with such an array of flavors that were exactly how we remember them from our home town in Mexico ! On top of the delicious paletas the young lady that helped us with our order even offered to wrap our stuff up in foil so that they'll make it home alright. They also have great guidelines for Covid and I felt very safe and very comfortable in the store, masks are required and there are well spaced out places for customers to stand while choosing their items. I haven't tried enough to give them a 5 but it's a strong 4 and the first visit, the young woman was so sweet she deserves a 10. Second visit didn't see the nice young woman that's part of this family owned business. So the workers are more business like, especially when it's crowded. Doesn't bother me. This is a no fuss no muss environment . Come in drool over the rows of Paletas , order a bunch and enjoy at home. Their products are fresh and high quality. My mom and I are more of a juice based kinda paleta fan. I have tried a milk base paleta and that was great. This was so long ago, I forget which one it was. Let me start off by saying, the despite it being in an older strip mall this place is absolutely clean. And you can tell. We came on a quiet wednesday afternoon and ordered the passionfruit, oreos and cream (crushed), strawberries and cream, and a chocolate paleta. To note, they use mexican vanilla, so vanilla flavors tastes a little bit cinnamon-y. Which is much more tastier than regular vanilla in my opinion. They were great! The cashier lady who helped us let us know about the flavors and the pricing, as well as the fact that they're so popular people come with coolers to take bunches of them home (we live 10 minutes away, so we didn't need to bring a cooler, as they did not melt on our way back but this is a good idea). This place would make a perfect stop for groups of friends on a summer day--or when you're craving paletas. Will be back to try everything else! :) read more

Great paletas store with tons of flavors of both cream-based and water-based varieties. I personally like the water-based real fruit flavors, that are packed with pieces of fruit and just delicious. Favorites include Sandia (watermelon), Melon (cantaloupe), Mango and the so pretty passionfruit with the slice of kiwi on it. The passionfruit smells delicious and tropical as well as tasting so good, including the toasted seeds that are inside it. Another benefit of this shop is that it's one of the closest to Irvine, Mission Viejo and other "South OC" locations. It's still a bit of a drive. I brought a cooler with some ice to transport the paletas home and that worked out fine, even with a short stop on the way home. Now I need to go back and try a bunch more flavors. read more

This is the best ice cream shop!! It is a mom and pop shop tucked away in a little corner in Tustin. The wife and husband duo make all of the popsicles and ice creams. They both are super sweet and will not give you any recommendations. They've been jaded by previous customers so they'd rather have the customers make their own choices. I feel terrible giving this a two star but it honestly sums up my experience with the place: Meh, I've experienced better. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm terrible with my decision making sometimes but the paletas I had were just not that impressive. I was rushed to make a decision because of the crowd so my friend and I quickly pointed at the passion fruit and the horchata paletas so that I wouldn't hold up the line. The passion fruit was really REALLY sour; not the refreshing tartness that compliments the sweet fruity taste, but just outright sour. It was also incredibly icy, which I understand because it's water based, but I've had water-based popsicles with a smoother texture. The passion fruit paleta melted really quickly that I had to struggle pretty bad to finish. That made me sad because it did look really pretty. The horchata was a lot better, but still not that impressive. This milk-based paleta was creamier (as expected from a milk-base), but still pretty icy compared to pops I've tried in the past. The flavor was really nice though, and it didn't melt very quickly so my friend enjoyed it with ease. The service wasn't very special, but I understand considering how crowded it was when we came. There aren't any places to sit down and enjoy, so I'm assuming this is more for buying in bulk and then enjoying at home. I'm willing to give it another try because the price and variety gives me hope. I'll probably stick with the milk-based next time. read more

They have 2 different types of paletas, the water based and the milk based. I've tried endless flavors of the paletas and they are so amazing to me. Endless amount of dairy goodness. Walking in there's a dozen flavors of ice cream and a couple dozen different flavors of paletas. One thing I hate about this shop is that I can't try all the flavors! I ended leaving with an avocado paletas and it's so good. It's pretty much just an avocado smoothie on a stick and everyone knows everything taste better on a stick! My fruit on a fruit cost $2.25 which isn't bad. There's so many flavors that you just choose the ones you know and like, so you can't really go wrong here. This place is the place to go if you're craving some paletas on a warm summer day, or if you're looking for a bag of tostilocos as a snack. I usually spend a good couple of minutes deciding which paleta to get simply because there are so many selections to choose from. Don't worry about being pressured by the staff, they are extremely friendly. They offer two kinds of paletas here: water or milk base. I personally don't prefer one over the other; I would be content if I could have all of them. The milk is heavier and creamier than the lighter, refreshing water base popsicles. Sometimes the texture and flavor might be different than from the last time you came due to factors such as temperature or the ripeness of the fruits in your paletas. Either way, I find them worth the $2-$3 (depending on your base). I have yet to try the other items on the menu, as I always end up with a paleta in my hands. read more

I didn't find these popsicles to be that outstanding. It was mehhh to me. I tried the mango and horchata. The first couple bites of the mango popsicle didn't win me over. It was a little plain tasting and not that sweet. It got a little better as you get to the middle of the bar and you get to taste the mango bits. The horchata was a bit better. Im not a fan of the location. It's located in a more rundown plaza and there are no areas for you to sit down and enjoy your dessert. I love a little family business. The wonderful woman who helped us talked about her family history and how her grandfather built up his little paleta cart to a actual brick and mortar location. It all adds up to super yummy sweet treats. The frozen goodies are all made on site and they use the highest quality everything. Like a kid in a candy store, the colors and flavors are so entrancing and distracting. Walking from case to case it's so easy to want to try a little bit of everything. This day me and the girlies each got something different: horchata (loved it), mango (would definitely try it again) and pistachio (creamy and smoothe). So many interesting flavor combinations. #76 Review for the 2016 Yelp 100 Challenge I grew up knowing about paletas from those vendors who frequent neighborhoods pushing carts carrying a load of goodies ringing their bells. Now they are opening up small little establisments which allows them to make more selections for us to try. We stumbled upon this little mom and pops paleteria after a GLOY outing. They have a great selection of flavors to choose from, water base popsicle bars and milk base ice cream bars. Gigi had the pistachio ice cream bar which was really creamy and rich in flavor. I really liked it. Belle had the horchata which was really tasty. And I chose the mango which was water base. It had a generous amount of mango pieces at each bite which was great but I wish the mangoes were a little bit more sweeter. It's a family business. They make all their ingredients in house. So it's as close as fresh as you can get. Only thing I wish they had were some place to park our behind. I'd suggest counter seats or little round tables with chairs. It was kind of awkward standing up trying to lick your popsicle bars before it all melted, holding your napkins, purses, and trying to take Yelp photo pics! Wasn't conducive to doing photo ops... These are some damn good paletas here. There's a couple of paleta places near me that also have high ratings and this place is another good one. I tried the strawberry cream ($2.50) and the tropical mixed ($2.25) and both were excellent. This family owned place make all their goods in house. They have a wide variety of paletas from fruit based ones to fruit/cream based ones. There are big chunks of fruit in them that make them so good. These pops are very refreshing on a hot So Cal day. Yum!! I was looking for dessert to satisfy my sweet tooth after lunch, and went to Yelp to search for a place. I didn't want too much sugar, and wanted fruits, so this fit what I was looking for perfectly! Very clean and minimal looking store. I love how the popsicle bars are separated by water and milk! I hope everyone reads this review and floods the store because this is a true mom pop shop in Tustin and I hope their business does well. After Taco Tuesday, we were full of sodium and our bellies were seeking glucose. Yelp pointed out a "hot and new" dessert joint less than a mile away so we make the trek on foot and stumbled into this treasure mine. My friends and I were mesmerized by the menu and flavors available. We asked so many classic annoying customer type questions but the owner who happened to be working was so patient with us and even offered us some samples. My husband and I ended up sharing a Mangonada ($5.25). We picked two flavors (mango and tamarind) for the base, and it was topped with this delicious chamoy syrup and a tamarind stick as the cherry on top. I had never had a mangonada before, so I wasn't sure what to expect... but let me tell you, every bite was like a piece of heaven! We saw this crazy photo of what she called "Tostilocos" ($5.50). They apparently cut open a bag of chips, put a bunch of crazy things like cucumber, peppers etc into the bag, shake it up, and serve it to you as a snack! My mind was blown when she explained this to me and showed me all the chip flavors on the shelving. There was also a delicious selection of popsicles! This selection really, in my mind, blew other pop bar type establishments out of the water. They had flavors like grape, rompope con pasas, avocado, oreo, chocobanana, watermelon, prunes, elote and the list goes on and on. I love that this place has a simple menu and authentic flavors. The owner mentioned to us that everything is made in the store and they just opened recently. Due to the permit or legalities, they aren't able to set up tables in the store, which is really too bad, because the desserts are so delicious, you will want to gobble them up on the scene!
