After several thwarted attempts to dine elsewhere in North Vancouver due to long lineups, or lack of parking, we found ourselves a parking space on upper Lonsdale and ended up at Palermo Cucina for dinner. This place has been around for ages I'm sure, but for some reason we never got around to trying it until now. We ordered: Caesar Salad Prawns Alla Livornese Margherita Pizza Eggplant Parmesan The Margherita pizza had these huge, round slices of tomato on top. Wasn't too crazy about it being served this way. It was kind of "meh." Everything else on the table was fantastic. The Prawns Alla Livornese was so flavorful, and if I wasn't already a fan of Eggplant Parmesan before stepping into this restaurant, then I was definitely a fan after trying this Eggplant Parmesan! Haven't been going out much during covid but was meeting a friend and he had been raving about Palermo so I wanted to try it. We went a little overboard on the ordering. It was lunch and I've been following a keto diet so I decided on the caprese salad and the meatballs. Michael ordered the calamari and a mushroom and double anchovy pizza. Gag! Anchovies are bad enough but double!! Lol The caprese was delish and the balsamic glaze was perfect. And the meatballs! We split them and they were smothered in the most delicious tomato sauce. Ended up taking a bit of both home. We devoured most of the calamari - it had a different tomato sauce for dipping that was equally yummy. I went against everything I believe in and tried a piece of the pizza. Neopolitan style I believe. Thin crust and cooked to perfection. And I loved it - anchovies and all. Our server was Helen and she was great. We appreciated that she wore her mask. Good sense of humour and really nice. I would give Palermo 5 stars just for service. Double bonus that the food was great too. Super reasonably priced and they even had a promotion that we got to keep our strong bow glasses. Served on ice with lime - just the way I like it! I was introduced to this place by a friend and I enjoyed our lunch. They're known for their delish Neopolitan pizza and pasta. We started with the deep fried calamari and had the prosciutto pizza with fresh arugula. The calamari came with slightly grilled red peppers which was a nice change. The sauce has a bit of a kick to it. It didn't taste too greasy but a little too much batter. The pizza was cooked in a wood fired pizza oven. The menu is one and the same for both lunch and dinner. There's a decent selection for vegetarians. Note they're only open for lunch from Wednesdays to Sundays. Closed Mondays. Service was prompt. Great ambience and clean place. Parking is on the street. Be aware of the 1 hour parking limits except the side streets which is 2 hr max. read more

I have been coming here for a while and im watching the customer service go down hill and the quality. I'm not sure if it's under new ownership. yesterday I went in with my mom to have our usual split a pizza, a pasta and salad. The lasagna was really oily and cold in the center. the last time we were there we waited an hour for pizza. They prioritized the takeout pizza, unfortunately. Tonight our food arrived sporadically. I had finished my pizza by the time my husband received his entree. He had Chicken Parmesan. The chicken was not breaded, which is key to this dish. So no breading and no parmesan! The pizza was very good but they have problems to solve. We've come here a few times since it opened and always had a good meal. Everything is tasty and cooked as close to Italian style as one gets in a pizzeria in Vancouver. The Palermo calzone easily feeds two people, or take half home for another meal. Avoid the focaccia bread they bring you to start - it's more like cake and not very authentic or good. Very sweet, with a cake-like consistency, and the oil and vinegar dipping sauce is mostly tasteless olive oil. Overall a solid restaurant pick. We will be back. read more

Ab-so-lutely disgusting! First of all, ever since I've been mentioning to people how horrible this place is, I've had 3 people tell me that were sick after eating here. And I don't doubt it for a millisecond. I went there to try their "authentic Neapolitan pizza" (yeah, right) and was severely disappointed. I could a Dozen things wrong with our food but I can't be bothered. Though, I will say that their dough is completely bland and even the Margherita pizza was crap! How do you mess that up? Secondly, the service was terrible. We were sat at a table that had been cleared but not cleaned - sauce and oil all over it, which could end up on your clothes, if you assumed the table was clean. Also, we weren't given menus when the hostess sat us down. Mind you, this is a 40+ year-old woman. She should know that her customers NEED A MENU! Another point about the service: Chaotic. It was plain to see that these people have never run a restaurant until this place. The front of house has DISASTER written all over it. It's just a shame to watch. I feel sorry for their serving staff. Thirdly, and most importantly, I took a peak into the kitchen, through the service window when I went to washroom, and MY GOD, it was filthy! Not only cluttered with all used pans and utensils, but the stove and deep frier were completely disgusting. The whole kitchen looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks! Or MONTHS! I've worked as a cook in my younger years (at The Keg Caesar's, to be exact) and there was no way our kitchen would ever be allowed to be in the state that I saw at Palermo. My husband and I went at 6, the sunshine streamed through the windows and lit the space cheerfully. It was extremely busy! When we called ahead they warned that they do not take reservations and that they were at a peak time but since we weren't in a hurry we went anyway. When we arrived we were lucky and three tables were being cleared, all of which were immediately filled. The food was delicious! We ordered the 3 meatball appetizer: generously portioned, nicely seasoned and the sauce was amazing. Followed by the pepperoni pizza and salsiccia pizzas - the pepperoni was fresh and light with a good balanced taste. The salsiccia was a standout! We ended up with enough pizza to take home roughly half of each. Afterwards I had to treat myself to the chocolate panna cotta, which was rich, thick, creamy, and just a bit tangy - in other words perfect! I almost forgot to mention the free house foccacia, served with oil and balsamic, nice and fresh and light. We also used it to wipe the last of the sauce from the meatball appy! I enjoyed a sicilian sunset martini, which was fruity and fun, followed by taking a chance on a glass of the house white wine. I've been disappointed before and so I was really pleased to find out that their house wine was actually very nice! All together, bill came to $100.90 (before tip) and I am now in food coma! Oh, one other thing, they have live music on Friday and Saturday nights. We caught "Tom & Georgina Arntzen", not really my cup of tea, but pleasant enough. This is my second time coming here. The food was tasty and service was great! Our only point of contention was the energy. I understand that during COVID businesses are going to be slower, especially on a Tuesday, but the owner/manager was overly observant. I felt like he was micromanaging our server to the point where there was no natural back and forth. She was super sweet and you can tell that they really care about their customers experience however I feel like it backfired a little or was just more noticeable because of the lack of hustle in the restaurant. We ordered calamari, prosciutto pizza and pesto pasta. All very tasty. Nice beer selection. read more

They prioritize the take-out pizza orders and you will sit there waiting in vain for YOUR pizza as you watch the take-out pizzas leave the restaurant. And the manager will lie to you when she explains why you're not getting your meal. The female servers are great and the food is mediocre. read more

I have dined here twice. Both times the pizza was quite good but both times the service was intrusively bad. The problem in my latest visit is their poor response to COVID. While they had sanitizers, the staff were not wearing masks. I am hearing that most other quality restaurants are having their staff wear masks, for very good reason. We were two at a table for four, but our server did not serve food to the empty side of the table, or take our orders from the empty side. Even the staff at the little sushi restaurant in our local mall know enough to do that. Finally, our server hovered very close to us, at times OVER our food, and I had to ask the server to step away at one point. This place has nice pizza, but they are telling me by their actions (or inaction) that they can't be bothered to take well-known and obvious steps to try to protect my health. Terrible my pasta was meh and my husband said that his calzone was disgusting, the service was horrible as well. It took ages to get our server to let her know that the calzone was cold and then even longer for the new one. When he finally got the new one he said it was gross and he's now feeling sick. My Bellini was so basic and such a rip off for $11 not impressed and will never ever come back to this place. The only reason why we came in the first place is cause browns is closed cause of a covid scare and I honestly think that's why it was super busy tonight. We we're happy to find a table at this "new" spot but it all went downhill from there. We ordered drinks, a prawn appy and two pizzas. We waited...and waited...the tables on either side of us arrived after us and they both received their food and we're done before we even finished our appy which consisted of 5 tasteless prawns served in an underwhelming tomato sauce. The ladies bathroom is dirty, the soap dispenser is laying sideways on the counter and no paper towels. The waitress had a mask on but it was pulled down her chin...
