Ambience was ok, waiter was not very friendly and seemed like he had no interest in serving us. When we asked about the menu, he said it's like anything else. The food was not good and lacked flavor, the chips and salsa were good. I guess if you are looking to hang out with friends and only eat tostada chips it would be a good place, but get your dinner somewhere else. This restaurant blows away the usual chips/salsa you're used to getting at a so-so Mex restaurant. The salsas are fresh and delicious and the beans/chorizo dip is fantastic. The waiters are awesome. As for the food, it's delicious and fresh. It's pricey but it's worth it - the quality of the food is exceptional. This is our go-to restaurant when we go to Laredo. Fabulous food! Chips are thick and delightfully crunchy. The beans are pleasantly full of flavor and pair nicely with the salsa. The prime rib tacos are delightful. The service was good, but the food was okay. I am currently visiting from a big city where food is diverse and rich in flavor. When I walked into Palenque Grill I expected to be wowed by the enchiladas I ordered, but left extremely disappointed. The enchiladas where very bland and lacked flavor. This place is severely over rated. Don't get me wrong. I don't dislike it, but there isn't anything special here. The food is okay. The service is okay. The ambience is okay. It's biggest problem, is it fails to rise above mediocrity. As the three star rating suggests, it's just "A-OK." If I'm having dinner with someone and they suggest this place, I'd be okay with it, I guess, but I would never suggest it. Never had putrid service, but never has it been excellent. The only time I've had to wait a long time is when I made the mistake of going on a busy Saturday night. I don't hold that against them, though. Restaurants get busy on weekends. If they don't have tables available, then they don't have tables available. Eating off of the ground is not an option so I wait. As I said before. Mediocre at best. read more

I don't know where to start. First Chips, Salsa, and Bean dip! Music on Saturday night was awesome, they knew every song we could throw out there. Food top notch. Definite date and special occasion spot. Only reason not a 5........ tables so close together I had to get up a few times while people walked through. Birthdays are celebrated with a obnoxious racket (and I think there were 4 in the hour I was there). A little noisy, but other than that, I will seek this place out the next time I come, but I will ask for a table off in the corner, a bit more busy/crowded than I'd like, but that's because it's awesome! read more

It was a great environment and the dip and toasted tortillas that they serve prior to your meal was excellent. We traveled to Laredo on a trip with our sons school for the Border Olympics and the coach recommended this restaurant for the great food. The atmosphere was family oriented and friendly. Visited this place while in laredo with family very good drinks mango margarita, tampiquena was geat with a little bit of everything fajita steak,chicken enchiladas cheese quesadilla beans and rice. This is one of the best places to eat in Laredo. I make it a point to eat here every time I'm in town for business. The food is fresh and delicious. This is as close to authentic Mexican that I've had. When I was there the first and second times, they had live music. This place is best with a small group and can get very busy at night so you might have to wait awhile. read more

This food was just incredible!!!! The service was very good as well. The bean dip and guacamole you could just eat by the spoon full--and the tres leches cake was just delightful. I'm a bit confused, is this place posing as a fine dining establishment? I guess the ultra dim lights are supposed to make this experience feel that way. Sure, this place has it all, white table cloths, a live piano player, carpet floors...but is this supposed to make up for the super slow service and unnecessarily over salted food? I waited 25 minutes for my chicken soup which was obviously made in advance and then an additional 10 minutes for my carne asada tacos which were plain minus the heaping serving of salt. I mean seriously, what did I ever do to you, Palenque Grill? I practically had to slurp the shit out of my ice water just to let them know I had been out for 10 minutes. Maybe it's just a bad night. I suppose 1/4 of an empty restaurant can be stressful, but I mean, not so much as a "is everything ok?" "Can I get you anything else?" Nice atmosphere but over rated. I've never had tlalpeno soup with dark chicken meat. The flavor of the meat just destroys any work put into the broth. It taste dirty. Pollo a la plancha with grilled onions was just dreadful. Chicken should remain on the grill and not grilled and put in the oven for doneness. Leaves a non desirable texture. read more

Been here several times and always had a good experience except for today. Our waitress never ask if we wanted refills and failed to get the order correct. When we mentioned it was not the right plate she blamed it on us "the customer is always right". She did correct the order but again we had to ask other waiters for refills. After reading good reviews and since it was walking distance from my hotel and I am always ready for good mexican food, I tried this place out. Maybe because I was a single female, but service was terrible. My waiter walked by my table numerous times without acknowledging me, then my food was delivered luke warm. Rather than send it back, I got a to-go box and took it back to my room to heat it up. Mediocre at best. I eat lot of Mexican food and have to say I was very disappointed. Was willing to pay what the reviews said as pricey for a good meal. I just felt truly invisible and that I was a nuisance. I eat out alone quite often as I travel for work and never felt this before. If you come for dinner, plan on at least a fifteen minute wait. However, the food is well worth it. The ceviche, aguachile, and tortilla soup are delicious appetizers. The entire menu is very good, but if you're a fan of seafood, I would definitely recommend the camarones laredo (large shrimp wrapped in bacon). The churro dessert is very good and comes with a side of caramel or dulce de leche. The drink menu here is extensive and the cocktails are very well made. There is typically live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is a must-visit for out of towners or for business lunches. The staff also sings Happy Birthday and brings a dessert to the table to celebrate birthdays, so I'd also recommend this restaurant for a group celebrating a birthday. read more

An excellent Mexican dinning experience. Service is the best in my opinion, the Mexican food selection is one of the best, steaks and fish are ok. My family, friends, co-workers and business partners enjoy dinning there. They have two locations now, the newer location on San Bernardo is clearly a sign that they are investing in interior design but you can still see hints of their favorite colors, white, yellow and blue they love using at all of their restaurants. My only complaint was during my most recent visit to the new Palenque location on San Bernardo, they always serve you some home made chips and this really good bean and chorizo dipping mix. At the new location the dipping mix was watery, never had happened to me before. Other than that, it was an enjoyable experience. read more
