After securing the winning bid in an on-line auction, I investigated the two options that were suggested to me by the Auction House; the UPS Store and Pak Mail in Lake Worth. UPS quoted me a price of $355.61 to ship the item up to Boston, an item that I had paid $100 for at the Auction. Wow! Really? For that price I could have flown down and back on Jet Blue and picked it up myself. Fortunately I then spoke to Junior at Pak Mail and he quoted me a price that was almost half the price ($189) that I had been quoted by UPS. Not only did the item arrive promptly and very well packaged, it came from a business that did not try to gouge me. Instead I felt that I was treated reasonably and with respect. read more

I was born in the morning but NOT yesterday morning. I attempted to send 3 small packages to my daughter in Arizona. One was already in a small USPS PRIORITY box. One was a 12 x 20 pillow in a box the other a 12 x 12 plague boxed. He suggested a send them all in one box it would be cheaper! I told him the Priority box had a set Price ... he disagreed. Upon weighing all 3 he said the Amount is $68.49 !!!! I foolishly agreed . They were to be delivered next Wednesday today is Tuesday. FEDEX he claimed was much much less expensive than USPS OR UPS!!!! I believed him. I was feeling uncomfortable about the charge at the very least when calling my fiancée. I immediately checked into it my fiancée said that is IMPOSSIBLE & you are being taken advantage of. I went back told him my feelings , canceled the transaction & retrieved my 3 packages. My next stop was USPS ... same 3 packages in total delivered on TUESDAY guaranteed was $32.00 His mark up was totally out of line . Buyer Beware. This is simply not right. read more

I had a very fragile glass sculpture, 18"x17"x15" from an auction house that needed to be packed and shipped to NM. It was an intricate diner scene with bar stools, a bar with plates and condiment bottles, and a washup area behind the bar. One side of the sculpture was the diner wall, another side had 2 tall heavy glass columns, and the other 2 sides were open to the scene. When Junior picked it up from the auction house, he informed me that some pieces were not attached and that insurance would only cover the item if it were lost because it was already damaged. I contacted the auction house who told me that when the piece left their premises, all the pieces were intact and only 1 catsup bottle and 2 cherries were loose. At this point, I was afraid for the sculpture and asked Junior to call the artist's assistant (I gave him the phone number) for tips on how she packaged her sculptures to send to the galleries. Unfortunately, Junior did NOT take her suggestions except for one. He had not planned on double boxing the sculpture (this is glass!) and charged me close to $100 more than the original estimate for the 2nd box. I was charged $639 total. All Junior did was to wrap bubble wrap around the piece (which broke the cherries on one corner of the piece) and place it ON ITS SIDE in a large sturdy box full of peanuts. The artist's assistant had told Junior not to bubble wrap it as it causes tension around the sculpture, and that it needed to be shipped flat. The bubble wrap created an air space in the interior of the sculpture, and when placed on its side, one column was above the other over that empty space. He then put it in a slightly larger box with peanuts in between. It was shipped UPS Ground, even though fragile art is recommended to be shipped by Air. It arrived without any FRAGILE or GLASS stickers, and not even a THIS SIDE UP (because remember, it was packed on its side). One heavy glass column fell downward because of gravity, breaking apart the attached floor and doors. UPS denies claims when they are not packed correctly, and when I described how the sculpture was packed to the local UPS shipping expert, he said that did not meet UPS shipping guidelines. He said it should have been custom packed, where they would build a box that fit tightly around the sculpture, and then the interior of the sculpture filled with a soft foam to keep the interior pieces from moving. Then it would be put in a larger box and they would cut Styrofoam to put between the boxes to eliminate damage if the box was bumped. I asked him what this custom shipping would cost and he said $100 or less. Keep in mind I was charged $639 for custom shipping that had nothing custom about it. I am out over $2000 total. Read this carefully and determine if you want Junior to ship your fragile art item. This business is not even listed by the Better Business Bureau. read more

I saw an example of superior customer care here this morning. A young girl was planning on shipping something. She had a large box. Junior, the manager, told here that if the box wasn't full when she packed it she shouldn't seal it but bring it to him and he would "shrink" it to save her money. He then said he'd figure out the cheapest rate for her between Fedex, UPS and the USPS. She told him she didn't have a car but lived very close. He then offered to go by and pick up the package for her when it was ready to ship. Awesome customer service! read more

DO NOT USE. Lied to my elderly mother telling her my account required express delivery for $100. My contract rate was $20.03 for ground and Pak Mail charged her $35. Box was packed and sealed. Pak Mail did NOTHING. Just upcharged her 75% and lied to her. Awful. Will never use again. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. This has to be the worst shipping experience in 15 years shipping antiques, crystal and porcelain. The owner "Junior" seems to think he is the greatest packer in the history of the universe. He shipped a $1,600 Herend tureen with a 3 pound lid wrapped in two light sheets of bubble wrap inverted into the tureen's bowl with minimal insulation separating the disassembled tureen to the edge of the box, allowing for the contents to bounce at least 2" during shipment. Of course the lid shattered and the entire affair arrived rattling with the remnants of shards of porcelain. Junior swears he packed the shipment well and is not at fault for damages incurred during its shipment. It has been over 3 months and not one word from Junior about the status of the claim. I have had to take control of the claims process as Junior has been indifferent on the whole affair. Avoid this Pak Mail like the plague if you value your shipment. read more
