This was probably the worst experience I've EVER had at a nail salon. I had an appointment scheduled at 4:15 and I still have to wait about 20 extra minutes. In addition to the waiting time, the nail tech DEEPLY cut/ sliced my finger with a cuticle pusher which did not stop bleeding during the visit. The gel nail polish was poorly painted. On top of that... they only discounted me around $6-8. Do not recommend. Update: three days have passed and my nail polish has already chipped. read more

Fast, one of the best gel manis I've ever had. The hand massage was so good I wanted to cry. I almost didn't come in because of the previous bad reviews but I'm so glad I did - she did a lot of shaping of my nails and now they are such a pretty oval shape. read more

Used to be 5 stars....but the location has changed owners at least twice in the past few months and is no longer dependable. Now appointments always run behind. Showed up on time to last three appointments and each started at least 15 -20 minutes late each time. Today it was 25 minutes and I had another appointment after...which means my experience was rushed, results are not the best and even with those corners cut I was late to my next appointment. Today I was told they were short handed, which happens, but they should have informed me of the shifted schedule when I called to confirm earlier in the day so that I could readjust my schedule. They will also reschedule you to another technician from the one you booked your appointment with without any notice. Current owners also don't seem to run the HVAC...last two visits have been 70+ degree days and it's hotter inside the salon than outside. read more

This is a very cute, trendy nail salon conveniently near a bunch of other shops! I was staying at the Renaissance Hotel nearby and desperately needed a manicure so I decided to pop in on a Sunday afternoon. I was able to get an appointment for about a half hour later as a walk in, which was great. My manicurist was so sweet; I wish I remembered her name to give her a shoutout! She did an excellent job and wasn't too rough with cuticles, which is my biggest pet peeve. I was visiting Raleigh for a weekend, but highly recommend the salon and would come back in the future. It was very clean with cute decor and comfortable seating. I also noticed they had cocktails and other beverages for sale but didn't order anything. read more

HLan has moved to this Paintbase location with a few Sunday's in downtown Raleigh still. She has been doing my pedicures and eyebrows for years now and always does a fantastic job! What did I like about this salon? The pedicure sinks do not use whirlpool jets, jets can house bacteria No abrasive pumice stones are used No massage chairs, this salon has comfortable oversized chairs This location is more spacious Making appointments is easy, just use their online booking system. read more

I made an appointment here, reviews unseen. I checked the yelp rating right before I sat down and got a little nervous for the 3 stars. However, I had an absolutely delightful experience. Appointment times were limited but I got in an open spot. My appointment started on time and June was my technician. She was wonderful, took her time, and I could tell she was a perfectionist like me. I guess based off other reviews it really must depend on who you get and when you show up. I would suggest booking an appt vs walk-in. I will definitely be back :) Picture is off a gelX with acrylic tip. read more

I have been a long-time customer of paintbase, going when they opened their first location in downtown Raleigh and hyping them as much as I could. I moved away from Raleigh and moved back recently. I booked services and was excited to return. I mixed up my days (totally my fault) and got a call from the paintbase front desk about 20 minutes after my appointment was to have begun. I asked if I could reschedule my service and they said no -- I would be charged in full for the service, period. I understand having a cancellation or no-show fee, and I'm sure I agreed to it while I was booking online, but 100% of the service cost for a simple calendar mix up with no flexibility when I explained the situation feels extreme to me -- it certainly goes beyond simply covering staff time. I won't be attempting to go back, as a business relationship should be one that respects both parties and this policy allows for no leeway on behalf of the customer when things just happen sometimes. read more

I decided to treat myself to a mani pedi for my birthday, and this was conveniently located across the street from my hotel. The staff is very nice and the place is new and beautifully decorated. The chairs are leather and comfortable enough (honestly not the most luxurious nail salon chairs I've experienced but certainly not the worst). The entire place is decorated in creams and soft golds, which is very relaxing The pedi was excellent, with a wealth of different massages and scrubs, which I was in desperate need of. The mani was also great, with a lovely scrub and massage. Alona did a great job painting my nails (and repairing one when I screwed it up accidentally - oops!). Very happy with this spot. I felt truly relaxed, pampered, and not at all rushed. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Raleigh! read more

Paintbase - Manicure (the divot on my thumbnail was my fault and inflicted after I left) - Nail Salons Near Me - Raleigh, North Carolina

Easy friendly scheduling for same day appointment. Aurora was my technician and was affable and efficient, and gave me a very nice dip manicure. Everyone was very pleasant. About the space: Easy parking and check-in. Light-filled and calm interior. They do not use electric nail files or play music, so apart from conversation, it is not noisy. Only two very limited key-rings of polish choices in dip powders compared to what I have seen at other salons. None matched the color I was searching for, but the shade I selected is an okay neutral. Chair cushions at small tables were thin and I kept having to shift to get comfortable and stop my tail bone from hurting. Looks like this location could use some maintenance; showing some wear everywhere I looked. One tiny sink to rinse hands during manicure and I had to wait in line quite a while even though there were few clients. All in all, this was a nice salon experience and I would bring my own dip powder and a stadium cushion (lol) and come back soon. read more

Update: My gel polish chipped after 3 days. I contacted the salon and they offered to fix it free of charge. The nail tech, Perla, who fixed my nails was shocked that someone there had done them. She was excellent. She fixed my nails to my liking and was very personable! *************** If you're looking for a salon with a high end aesthetic this is your place. Unfortunately, the service doesn't live up to the same standard. While I'm satisfied with my services, the customer service seemed to be a little lacking. My nail tech didn't speak at all, didn't introduce herself, and was listening to something via AirPod the entire service. Also, there is a $5 service charge that is not mentioned when booking or at check-out. There is a small sign at the front that states that it is for fees associated with covid but I didn't notice any worthwhile precautions. I would return for a manicure if my regular salon couldn't see me. read more

Wow! I was really excited when I heard Paintbase was opening an additional location in North Hills. I have been to the Glenwood South location, but the North Hills spot is much closer to me and parking is pretty easy on that side of the North Hills plaza. For reference they are right near Edible Art. The interior is almost identical to that at Glenwood South, just a bit bigger. Instead of the single manicure stations they are all doubles. It seems like they had a few more pedicure chairs as well. I love the design of the place, super modern, and girly. I went in with a friend on a Sunday afternoon for pedicures. Once we were given the chat on the color options (they offer long wear polishes for a $3 up charge) we were offered a drink, she mentioned she could make a mimosa. Sign us up! We sipped on our mimosas while we waited a few minutes for our nail techs to be ready. Their signature pedicure was great and the staff was friendly and did a thorough job. Looking forward to heading back in! read more

Great Experience!!! Had a wonderful experience at Paintbase, a very relaxing mani and pedi! Nails turned out great!

I went to the Paintbase on Glenwood for years. The North Hills location has been very disappointing. I got a dip manicure on November 18, and by November 20 it was bubbling and changing colors. I called, and they told me they would fix it for free - but they didn't have a lot of availability and couldn't fit me in until November 30th. I got a new dip manicure on November 30, and the technician was very nice. It took her 2 hours, but the new manicure looked great, and stayed in good shape until two weeks later - when I went to pick up a piece of laundry and the nail polish fell off one of my index fingers completely. It took some of my nail with it - and was very painful. Now I have one naked finger and need to go somewhere else to have the polish fixed. I will not be returning to this salon. read more

This place looked so cute and chic online I had to try it. I liked how they explained that their pedi tubs aren't jacuzzi and that is because the jets can spread bacteria. The good stuff: the staff was very friendly. The decor and vibe in this place is wonderful. Light. Clean. Modern. Pretty. Plush. The pedi chairs are so comfortable and cushy. The bad: I made my appointment through Instagram DM where it was being advertised that may be a better way to make an appointment since salons just reopened after COVID closing. It took several days to nail down a day and time for 2 of us to get pedicures, which was fine because it was DM and also over the holiday weekend. The message I finally got said "so sorry for the delay, we have you for 2 pedis at 5:00". We get there. Seated. Pedicure was average. Both did a good job but it wasn't anything special. A very typical pedicure - which I was ok with because after this quarantine I'd take anything. My brother was my pedi companion. I had seen online that the basic pedicure was $35 and the gentlemen's pedicure was also $35. Fairly in line with most salons in the area. We go to check out and our pedicures were $50 each. I said - I thought it was $35? She said "I have you down for 2 signature pedicures" and I said "I wasn't asked what pedicure I wanted or told I would be booked for that. Also the gentlemen's pedicure is $35 on your website" and she said "oh our website is wrong. It's not even in our system anymore" what?! Also the signature pedicure is $45 on their website. But they charged us each a PPE fee which was not disclosed to us at the time of making the appointment OR when we arrived. They made us sign a waiver which she said "basically says you won't hold us liable if you catch COVID" and said nothing about the fee then either. Really unhappy that I paid $50, but even more so for absolutely no communication or regard for my input or that I should know what I am paying for ahead of time. This was my first time here. Every salon operates differently but how am I to know exactly what services you have and offer and also you must confirm with your customers the services they are signed up to pay for. read more

I decided on Paintbase because it was convenient to my house and my God Daughter wanted her nails done. I wouldn't normally chose this place because I have a nail tech that I go to but it was convenient. I called the morning that they opened and no one answered the phone so I took my chances and went up there. When I walked in there was NO hello welcome to Paintbase anything and even when I walked up to the receptionist she didn't say anything. She automatically assumed that I had a appt. I asked her if I could get a pedicure + gel nail she checked the computer and then I said I didn't have an appt she said oh! We can't take you today in the mist of that I told her that I had called all morning and her responds was WHAT? And I repeated myself and she said I must have been in the back ....no I apologize etc just her response. Overall horrible customer service, I knew there was a reason I never went to this place and I'm very grateful that this isn't my salon. read more

I usually go to the salon around the corner, but I a gift card I needed to use. When I got there, the girl at the front was super helpful. I told her I had my bridal portraits the next day, and she immediately pulled out the perfect color. I had to wait 10 minutes past my appointment time because the woman ahead of me ran long. I wasn't super bothered since it's not their fault if someone gets super picky. I was the last appointment of the night and felt super rushed. My nails definitely could have used another coat. The next morning they looked super see through in places and streaky and not at all smooth. At my regular place they always ask if you want another coat before they finish but they didn't here, because I definitely would have asked for a third coat. Then 24 hours later they turned black! Especially in the spots that did not come out smooth. I've never had that happen with a gel manicure. Then they slapped on a $5 COVID charge at checkout. I understand the need for increased prices with everything going on, but I would rather just raise prices rather than be hit with a surprise charge at the very end. There was only one tiny sign stating it. I probably would not go back unless I had another gift card, since it was kinda pricey and the quality was not worth it. read more

Wow. This is the second time I've tried to redeem a gift card I got for Mother's Day. Thought it would be nice to use it for Mother's Day this year. My nail tech walked out before the appointment even began. I honestly would be a little more empathetic if I wasn't pregnant and using my one day off this week to try and treat myself. Thankfully the man working the front desk was so apologetic and kind. He's the only reason I gave 2 stars. read more

I had a bad experience at Paintbase 2 days ago. A lady, Mirla did my mani and pedi. The pedi turned out fine. The mani I picked a light pink opi and she cut my cuticles so short they bled and she was laughing about it. Then she didn't do enough coats of the color or even coats that you could see the nail. She didn't get the nail polish around my fingers either. When I was checking out the manager heard me asking my friend if I should say anything. I showed him my nails and he took pictures and said it was unacceptable and he comped the service. He said I could come back and it would be free with someone else, so I accepted and came back the next day. Yesterday, I arrived and I was sat at her table. I was confused, but thought maybe someone else would sit at her chair. Then she came to her table and said "sorry." And I explained I was told someone else would be doing it. She left and then another front desk manager spoke with me and said in 30 minutes I could come back to see someone else. Yesterdays manicure turned out great, the new nail tech did a great job and spoke to me the entire time. The new nail tech is Natalee and I would happily come back for Natalee if I decide to go back to Paintbase. read more

Let me start off by saying that PaintBase is beautiful and is protecting its customers wonderfully during COVID-19. I appreciate their cleaning and helping others feel so so safe during this process. I have an immune condition, so this was a big deal for me to have for my safety. They are charging an extra $5 fee (which is kind of shocking since they overprice their manicures anyways) but I'm okay to pay that if needed. Also, everyone was so kind and my nail tech was great. Now the unfortunate part. I received a DIP manicure for my birthday recently. These are supposed to last 2-3 weeks easily. After 4 days, I had two nails chip. TWO. Which is crazy. I called them and asked for a touch up, which is something every other salon does if your dip does not last the full 2 weeks. They said because it has been 4 days and not 3, they could not fix mine for free. They had to charge $5 PER NAIL and the $5 PPE fee on top of that. (so $15 for a 2 nail quick fix). A posh high scale salon is charging $5 per nail? This is apparently their policy with all services so don't bother getting DIP because it has the same time stamp for repairs as a regular manicure does. In addition, it has been 6 days since my mani. 6 of my nails have noticeably broken the polish and it looks awful. I truly doubt any of my nails will last the full 2 weeks as promised by the salon, as they have not even lasted less than a week. Despite any good about it, I do not expect to be returning for a manicure anytime soon at PaintBase. I would not recommend it if you want your $70 manicure to last. read more

I'm a little bummed about my experience at Paintbase. I went in around Halloween specifically to get nail art and treat myself after a big test. I would go back and get a pedicure but I would skip a manicure. I got a gel manicure that ended up ripping off within 5 days. I was only able to get minimal nail art. The good part was my pedicure was excellent and super relaxing. Manicure, 3/5 stars and pedicure 5/5. For someone who typically does their nails at home, I'm not sure I would make a special trip to go back. read more

This was my first time visiting Paintbase and I wish it was a more positive experience. I think this is the worst manicure I've ever gotten. She didn't go to my skin on any nail, left polish on my skin, and completely missed all sides of my left hand. When I mentioned that she had the wrong color she insisted on putting a "base" color under it, to which I said it was the wrong color. She proceeded to paint all my nails with this "base" color because she realized I was, in fact, correct. I love the color that's on my nails, it was just applied very poorly. For $42, I will not be coming back here again. read more

I think the star rating on here is a little unfair. I thought it was going to be a lot more expensive since it's located in North Hills but it really is competitive price wise to other nail salons. The technicians were very friendly. The girl who answered the phone when we made the appointment seemed not to know much about the differences in the pedicures. However, when we arrived they were extremely welcoming and friendly. We booked our appointments together hoping we could sit next to eachother but they must have overfilled so we had to sit separate. They seemed extremely concerned about us sitting together in another part of the salon so we didn't make a big deal about it. I was offered a beverage and a warm neck wrap which was nice. However, my friends weren't offered the neck wrap so I don't this that's part of the general pedicure, just a nice addition for me! I would definitely return! read more

I came here a few times once befor my wedding and once after the space is BEAUTIFUL. I enjoyed their pedicure however their gel manicure I had a lot of issues first they never lasted two weeks not even close like a week and 3 days tops and I had sever chipping or some nails straight up popped off...they charged me for repairs which I saw as strange until my second visit for repairs and they competed me when some nails peeled off in less then 24 hours. However it was super awkward like it was some how my fault of maybe I should have asked to be compted but gel manicures are already expensive and added repair fees on top is just not cool. Anyway the space is beautiful and their pedicure is on point but I'll stick to my place for manicures they last almost three weeks and I'm a teacher I always have my hands in water read more

TL;DR: poor customer service, cluttered, messy areas, random fee getting thrown in at end for COVID. won't be back I wanted to like this place so bad. I have had friends in other cities go to Paintbase and RAVE about it. So I wanted to give it a try even though the reviews weren't great. I am also looking for safer alternatives when it comes to cosmetics/beauty and so this seemed like a great option. Their prices are a bit higher than other salons, but I was willing to pay this for a safer option. I made an appointment online. Made my appointment for 10:25 am for a gel polish change. Booking said the appointment would like 30 minutes and would be $25. Sounds good to me! I arrived 20 minutes early (15 minutes early required), per instructions from the confirmation email. I got a less than warm "hello" by the girl at the front desk. She literally said "Hi, name?" I gave her my name. She replied "ok, go wash your hands". No directions on where to go, but I found it. When I came back, she asked if knew what color I wanted and I said I would need to look. I went over the nail polish wall and looked around. There is a sign that asks you not to touch the polish (makes sense, because, COVID) so I asked her which ones were gel. She said, "well, some are gel and some are polish...." She seemed put off by my question and impatient. There were supposed to have cleaner brands available, and they did. But they were shoved off to a corner, looked really old and dried out and had very few colors. There were random empty shelves in the lobby. Cords and a random water bottle laying around. It just seemed very unkept for a place that is supposed to provide "high end beauty services". I picked my color and took a seat. 10:25 comes and goes. No one says a word to me. 10:35.... still nothing. I don't mind waiting, but if I book an appointment and am told I have to be $15 minutes early or risk cancellation and charge for services, I expect to be seen at my appointment time. No one offered a drink, anything at all. A couple of minutes later, I was pointed to my chair. The woman who did my nails was nice. Quiet. She was being rushed by another employee to finish up with me and move onto another client, which wasn't the experience I was hoping for. She did a decent job, but we will see how it lasts... When I got ready to pay, the girl at the front desk said, "okay, your total is $30 can I charge it to the card on file?" (have to leave a card to book appointment). I told her that when I booked the service, the booking was for a $25 gel polish and that's what the signs in their shop referenced too. I asked where the $5 different came in? I don't mind paying for a service, but I do like knowing what I am being charged for. She said it was a "COVID" fee. I said, "Uh, a COVID fee? What for?" She said, "uh...COVID". It seems odd to me that there was no mention of this fee online, when I booked, or anywhere in the salon. If prices have gone up and the service costs more, than raise prices and update your signage. If you need add a fee for a legitimate reason, let people know when they book, when you check them in or have a sign somewhere. Waiting until someone has had a service done and then throwing $5 on their bill and expecting them to just deal with it without explanation is absurd. I won't be back. read more

Love love love this nail salon. I went after work on a Thursday with a friend at around 6pm. I would say to get there a little earlier just because parking in North Hills is difficult with Beach Music Thursday's going on but I got lucky and found a spot. I've been holding off this review for TWO YEARS. I should have wrote this after my 4th bad experience. The owner, Heather, has shown blatant disregard to my issues and concerns. Her motto: "I got your money now so I don't care". Let me explain. I started going to Paintbase in 2016/17 because I wanted my nails done by H'lan. The Tucker Street location is where she was located and that's where my first of many appointments began. In the beginning, I use to get both gel nails w/ extensions+designs. Add in a pedicure and my tab was always $80+. No complaints because I was getting what I wanted. However, throughout this time of getting my nails done, the sets would never last more than ONE WEEK because the gel would always "lift" for some odd reason. Since I work out of town a lot, it would sometimes be two weeks before I could return for a repair. By that time, I would need a fill-in anyway so now its a new appointment. All they would ever say was "Sorry about your nails" and MAYBE give a discount. Once they did give me a "free" service (AFTER I've already paid over $500 in appts). I started cutting out the pedicures as I was more concerned with my nails. I continued to go because I was a loyal customer of H'lan's. It wasn't her but the products that Paintbase use that's causing the lifting. The gel liquid is not stored properly and therefore weakens its holding property. Also, they hardly ever have WORKING uv lights. The techs are always searching for the ONE working uv to use. I again grieved to the salon coordinator Casey and requested numerous times to speak with Heather. I've been in the salon when Heather has waltz in and runs straight to the back to hide because she doesn't want to hear anything bad about her cash cow. After tons of money later, I just stopped going. Especially, after visiting different salons of competition who use the exact same product and I NEVER GET LIFTING. Paintbase has a cute decor of gold accents but that's about all. All salons offer a complimentary drink and many have a luxury boutique feel. I really tried to work with Paintbase but they did not want to work with me. Aside from the expired products they use, the customer service is piss poor. I've also had an incident with a receptionist who was refused to confirm an appt and also refused to greet me because of my 'look'. Top that with an owner who is clueless how to operate a customer service based business but will instruct staff to email customers begging them not to leave a bad Yelp review (yes, I have an email doing just that, as well as text messages). Paintbase tates are inflated 2x that of other comparable salons in the Triangle who use unexpired/undamaged products. If it was possible to review and leave no stars, I would. read more

I made an appointment for my mom and I about a month and a half ago. When we got there we had to sign a Covid form which stated nothing about the five dollar PPE charge. I got gel on my nails and my mother got dip as well as one tip added on. They charged my mom $75 for a basic dip manicure and they charged me around 50 for my gel manicure. They added in a five dollar PPE charge that was not noticed until the receipt was emailed to you nor was it spoken about. The PPE they're charging for is not even provided. Since masks are required we had our own. none of the nail techs were wearing the same mask either so it was not like we were paying for their masks. I had heard multiple bad reviews but figured I would give it a try since it looks super cute. It was indeed super cute; however, the service was terrible the nail techs barely spoke to you and there was no social distancing whatsoever. We were crammed into tiny little areas with only a piece of plexiglass in between you and the other person. After leaving the salon my nails chipped within the first three days, which I could not return due to their policy. It continued getting worse so I just took the polish off. My mothers nails were a complete mess and the tip lifted and fell off. I did not reach out to the manager or the owner because based on other peoples reviews of their communication it wasn't even worth it. I will never return to the salon and do not recommend it to anyone it is not worth the amount you pay and maybe that's the reason they moved locations. Don't waste your money or your time for a poor service. Just for reference here are my nails after 3 weeks from a much better salon and these are gel too! My nails didn't look like this after paintbase. read more

I really wanted to like this nail salon. It is very pretty ascetically but the actual results were not good. I had a gel manicure and pedicure on a Tuesday by Sunday my gel was peeling off--this has never happened to me before it normally lasts 2 weeks. I also had a pedicure and paid more for a polish they said was longer lasting. My nail polish on pedicures normally lasts 4 weeks with regular polish. This lasted a week and a half before my nail started to chip. read more

First off Anna is amazing. She does an incredible job. My review is in no way a reflection on her whatsoever, but more on the business itself. Let's talk about what seems like a pure ripoff here...the $5 fee. First it was for "COVID" now it's an administrative fee??? What's really going on here? It seems like the owners chose to take advantage of a terrible situation (pandemic) and charge a "fee" that makes no sense. I have continued to go back just because Anna is so good, but it makes me angry every time I go to pay the "fee." Also, not the most comfortable pedicure chairs. While pretty, not practical for a pedicure. You have to sit way up so that you can reach the end of the foot rest. My first and last gel manicure chipped on day two (while on the plane on my way to the west coast). read more

After a negative first experience at the Glenwood South location (and a meh second experience) I was treated to a manicure and pedicure at the North Hills location by the owners. It it very appreciated and was the perfect way to relax on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Like the Glenwood South location the space is absolutely lovely and Instagram-worthy, featuring gold finishes, super comfy seating and (my favorite) jetless tubs. Everything in the North Hills location is a tiny bit newer but really the spaces look about the same- definitely the best looking salons in Raleigh! As for the service I think the North Hills location edges out as the winner. It's a lot more laid back, with everyone seeming a lot less pressed for time in order to keep up with appointments. My mani and pedi were thorough, relaxing and quite precise, when at the Glenwood South location everything seemed on fast forward for both of my experiences. My nail tech Lana was also amazingly friendly and chatted with me the entire appointment, a stark contrast to last time as well! She (and the girl up front) explained the process very well (for example the different levels of polish and everything that came with each type of service) and even gave me some advice of the differences between the brands of polish they carried! While prices are a tiny bit higher than my normal salon across the street AND the Glenwood South location is much closer I think the North Hills Paintbase will definitely be my regular spot from now on. Looks like third time was the charm! read more
