I'd give this place a zero if I could. Four of us went and only one person had a decent experience. One that hardly did anything even asked when for more pressure, another that was too rough even though asked for milder pressure and one that was not very considerate with his time and tossing blankets, arms, legs, and constantly going to the same spot to just burn time. Workers and customers were so loud the entire hour we were there- NOT RELAXING AT ALL! While getting the massage they were scoffing about or at other customers bc I also overheard other customers talking about their payment and not wanting to get their 5 massage promo. I do not recommend this place as they have terrible business model! I received a massage and when I left the woman was was massaging me scoffed at my 25% tip..granted, that's only $5 since the cost is $20. The cashier (manager/owner?) joined in and said that they work hard and deserve $10. While waiting on the Vision center to open my mom & I decided to come here. I had been suffering from excruciating foot pain and needed relief. It was unbearable pain and I thought I had to start walking on a cane. The atmosphere was very calming and relaxing. The lighting was dim lit and it the aroma was a menthol scent. An ambient sound was playing very, very peaceful. I lied down on a comfortable recliner lined with maroon towels. My massager prepared a what I assume a blue Listerine foot soak only cause it smelled like it. After the soak, he dryed my feet off and told me to lie down. He started to massage my legs, ankles, and feet. At first I didn't understand why he was massaging my legs, but I see the pain could've risen in that area. In beginning the massage was quiet then it got loud due to the fact that the employees were chatting extremely loud. It bothered me cause I was awoken by it. Just to clarify: a "foot massage" does not infer that they only do your feet, nor does it mean that a little Chinese woman will step on your back with her feet - it means that you get 30 minutes in a fully reclined chair (head, neck, shoulders, some back, arms, hands, feet, legs) and then 30 minutes on the table (full back + some butt hehe). Be careful who you ask for because not all masseuses are made equally. I refer Alice for foot massage and my mom swears by Tien for back massages. As others have said, prepare for a hard massage and be ready to let them know how hard you want it - that is if you can speak that broken-chinese-english talk. I love the place because the owner is very nice, the massage actually lasts a whole hour from the moment they are rubbing you down instead of the time you arrive, and there's just nothing like finding the masseuse who's perfect for you. This place isn't the royal plush spa of some other place here in Chinatown west but because my acupuncturist said it was recommended by her clients I should go back because she said it was "the man" who is the expert reflexologist. Boy oh boy she was right. I walked in and there were women sitting around everywhere and only one man Tu. I pointed at him and asked for a room in back. Tu's English is limited but he understood and took me to the back and performed the reflexology I had been searching for. It's funny but you can tell when someone is not only trained in pressure points but also likes what he does. I had watched Tu working the last time I was there and noticed his skill and work on another client. I was hoping for the same and he delivered. I only had the one hour at $20 but his care to hit the pressure points and work at the kinks was total bless. I tried to tell him that I am his customer now but I don't think he understood. This place is not your typical massage center like Massage Envy. As soon as you enter the door, you will see an entire room of customers in rows being massaged on top of over-sized recliner couches. Seemed awkward and uncomfortable for the first time since I was used to private rooms like Massage Envy, but my first time experience made up for it. The massage is 1 hour long, which is the most common service people get. Your massage starts off in the big room (which you first walk into from the entrance). They have you lay down face up on the big couch and they will massage your arms, shoulders, and head. Then they will put your feet into a bucket of warm-hot water mixed in a bundle of tea bags. After your feet simmers in the water for a while, they take it out and massage it. It actually feels pretty nice. Then they wake you up and tell you to go into a much smaller room (or more private) to lay face down on a flat bed. Then they continue the session by massaging your back and after about 15 minutes your session is complete. You go up to the front to pay and the masseuse/masseur gives you a bottle of Ozarka water and stands beside you looking at your wallet/cash while you pay expecting a tip (and I am seriously not joking either). So what's the big fuss with the low rating? 1. The employees do NOT act or dress professional and they cannot shut their mouth when performing the massage on customers. For petes sake, they didn't where uniforms for a period of time (and not too long ago they finally start wearing uniforms) so I couldn't tell the difference between the customer and employee. Heck, they wore whatever T-shirts they brought from home. And I find it strange that they have signage everywhere that say to be quiet but the employees make the most noise within the building, yapping away in Chinese. 2. And that brings me to my next point. Just because they SPEAK Chinese doesn't mean their customers can't understand a single word of what they are saying. Guess what? One of them was bad mouthing my friend in Chinese who was also getting a massage beside me. I understand Chinese, and translating what my friend's masseur was saying to my masseur, "His feet stinks like crazy!" (in a complaining voice and my masseur starts laughing) In repeated one to two minute intervals, my friend's masseur said, "God, his feet stinks!" (my masseur keeps laughing again and again, louder and louder, and it got a little too loud so my friend's masseur shushed him). When we were moved into the smaller rooms, my friend's masseur traded spots with my masseur because of the smelly feet dilemma. Talk about lack of professionalism. You don't talk behind the back about your customers in FRONT of your customers! I left pretty mad that day. *Yes, I know. It sucks to have to deal with stinky feet customers, but take that complaining elsewhere. 3. The third time I came and while I was waiting for my turn to get a massage, I saw a customer walk out the door after paying and then suddenly a masseur ran towards him right outside the door and said, "No tip?". Even though tip is definitely a "standard" practice whenever you get a massage, you should never go chasing after the customer asking for tip. The customer ended up giving a $10 bill but for himself and his wife (so $5 per person). 4. Contrary to the $5 tip that customer left for the masseur, I generously tipped mine $15 for a $20 massage. The masseur didn't say thank you, and he only gave me an expression that my tip amount was "deserved". I gave him more because he was nice, but not because he did a over-the-top job with the massage. I was not very happy at all with the response. I wasn't expecting him to kiss my feet for it, but at least a thank you. On top of that, he was watching the POS transaction like a hawk, from me taking my cash out of the wallet, paying, and getting change. Clearly this guy wanted tip, a generous one least to say. How does it feel when you have someone staring at you the entire time to see how much tip you want to give him? Not too comfortable is it? I don't ever plan to come to this massage center again. Clearly the people who run this center hasn't heard of customer service before, or even know what it is. Many traditional Chinese business owners (aka the ones that come/born from China or Taiwan) think they can run business like in homeland where customer service isn't top priority. If you would like a cheap massage, then by all means this isn't a badchoice. FYIs my mom has told me: If you prepay for 4 one hour long massages you'll get the 5th one free. Even though you have a 1 hour time slot, you can ask them to focus their attention on areas you need. So, if you only want your feet to be massaged they can do that for you. Experience is kind of strange here because it's a communal experience.
