Celebrity chef restaurant, hoping the flavors were great after knowing him from culinary class wars. I got the jajang noodles, I thought they tasted a bit on the bland side, there was barely any meat in the sauce (good thing I added meat). Using the paldo instant noodles as a base 3, this place was a bit above them, the noodles were better and the texture of the sauce ingredients were plump. At ~$13 with tax, it was decently cheap and flavorful for jjajangmyeon these days, but not great. The noodles were just not chewy enough; they were too soft. The sauce was mostly onions and cabbage, I think, with some beef mixed in. It hit the craving I had, but the noodle texture made me wish I had gone elsewhere. I went to Paik's Noodle today to grab some authentic Jjampong. But the cabbage in the noodles was overcooked and soggy. The seafood in the dish was slightly overcooked. The seasoning of it was almost en pointe, but it had too much gochugaru (Korean chili pepper flakes) in it--I was burping up pepper flakes. I didn't have such a rave review of Paik's Noodle this time. Maybe they just had a bad day and left the food under the heat lamp too long. read more

The cashier named Brandon, a young Korean guy, was one of the worst restaurant employees I have ever encountered. He showed a very irritated attitude toward both me and the customer after me. Whenever I said anything, even though he clearly understood, he would just respond with "I'm sorry" in an annoyed tone and expression. Cashiers are not just there to process payments, they represent the face of the business. I strongly believe that customer service should always be the number one priority for any restaurant. I honestly don't understand how or why he was hired, or why he continues to work there if he clearly does not want to. If he is working there simply because he is related to the owner, that would make the situation even worse. I truly hope the owner of this business reads this review. read more

Food changed!?!?? Or the cook? Definitely some of the ingredients changed. I always loved their jjambbong but it's totally different taste, didn't boil enough so I can taste too much of garlic. Spiciness tastes different. Bowl size is much smaller. And the tangsooyuk is bad now. Not crispy at all. Not only that, meat and tempura coating comes apart so easily it just doesn't do the job. Torrance Food Crawl #419 Paik's Noodles is one of three restaurants in the H-Mart food court. This location seems to find a new tenant every couple of years, so we'll see how Paik's holds out in the long run. Shortly after this restaurant opened, I noticed one of the chefs looking out at the food court. I noticed a similarity with the photo of the owner, and then realized that it indeed was the owner of the Paik's Noodle chain, Jong Won Paik. So, I know that he actually shows up at the chain's locations. The menu is a mix of Chinese and Korean-style dishes. The portion size is large. The best item I've had was the Jjamppong, a spicy noodle and rice dish, with pork, squid, mussels, and vegetables. Very satisfying on a cold day. My latest visit was about six months since the last one. This time, I got the Spicy Chicken. Nicely spicy, though I wish the chicken was a little more crispy. The white rice accompanying dish was a disappointment, dry with brown scorch marks on much of the rice. Most disappointing was that the dish came with a plastic fork and spoon. It was the first time I'd eaten here where I wasn't provided chopsticks! Yeah, I'm an old white guy, so I may not look like most of the other Asian customers, but if I'm eating at this restaurant, I wish I would be shown some common courtesy and provided chopsticks, and if I didn't want them I could have asked for a fork and spoon. read more

I stood there in front of the cashier for several minutes. Almost 10 whole minutes and no one came over to take my order. They saw me and continued to ignore me. Best shrimp I have ever tasted on shrimp fried rice!!! Not going to lie, the fried rice was pretty bland- I'm used to flavorful/savory/salty fried rice, at least with maybe a little hot sauce or soy sauce. This was not it for the flavor-- BUT the shrimp was cooked to perfection. Usually when I order shrimp fried rice, I am hesitant because the establishment either gives too little shrimp, or it's overcooked and too chewy. They gave about 10-12 pieces of shrimp and it was so delicious I did not even add anything to the fried rice. It was filling and tasted like the healthiest fried rice I've ever had They gave soup and pickled radish on the side. The soup has a very distinct seafood flavor that I did not care for (but my husband loved) and I enjoyed the pickled radish. Service was fast and friendly. Bonus points for taking Apple Pay. We went during lunch rush so there were only a few spots open, but every table was clean. You return the tray/dishes to the restaurant and throw out your own trash. They provide water cups as well. Jangban jjajang is probably their best menu. Its meant for two people and it is their best jjajang. Dont get the regular jjajang if you can and get the two seving one. Jjambong is just okay but I feel like the noodles don't absorb the flavor of the soup that well. They just play separately. I've searched for years for sweet and sour pork that rivaled my mom's and there's only a few places that came close. This is one of those spots. Usually the pork and/or the batter is tough, but here it's perfectly light and crispy. The sauce is also on point and tastes just like my mom's. So I come back just for that. The black bean noodle and spicy seafood noodle soups are just a bonus on top of that. My husband loves both of those dishes here. I think I prefer the jajangmyun better than the stir-fried version. There's also spicy versions that I haven't tried yet. One of my favorite parts about both dishes is that I like the texture of the noodles they use over some of the other local spots. Located inside HMart. I was in the mood for JaJang myun (black bean noodles) with Jamppong (Seafood Noodles). This place is solid for that. Is it the best? Maybe not but it's decent. The Jampong had plenty of seafood in it although it appeared to contain no shrimp. The Jajang was tasty and because we ordered both those dishes, there was plenty of the highlighter yellow daikon which is the perfect sweet/tart condiment for these savory noodles. (It would have been nice to have a little side of tangy kimchi for the Jajang.) Economy-wise, the prices for both of these dishes was reasonable especially during these times. However, we ordered the Chili Shrimp for my son. Presentation-wise it was underwhelming and the portion seemed small. The flavor did have a nice kick to it. Also disappointed there was no small side of rice accompanying it which would have been ideal. Would come back and order other iterations of the jajang and jampong dishes. Visited this place on a weekday afternoon. Great to see bunch of authentic Korean food places opening up in H-Mart. I was looking for chicken options, unfortunately there were not many. I requested if they could make any of the noodles with chicken, they said no, may be because the sauces they use for the same is pre cooked with other meat. Anyways, I went ahead with the Deep Fried Chicken that they had. The person serving at the counter was nice and helpful. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The portion size was huge. The chicken was tender, flavorful and had right amount of spices. Definitely worth trying it if you are looking for a flavorful chicken. I request that they come up with an option of chicken noodles. I do see that they have chicken rice option, may be I will try that next time. read more

I usually don' t eat creamy food becasue I don't like greasy food. But, the sauce is not greasy at all and the sweetness was added, so It went well with shirimp! Had to get Paik's noodles after watching Culinary Wars on Netflix. This restaurant is inside the Hannam chain food court and is a super quick stop for in and out food. We usually get the jjajang myun (black noodles), jjambong (spicy seafood soup), and tangsuyuk (deep fried pork with sauce). The to-go packaging is really good. Jjajangmyun - I would rate this an 8/10, the sauce is flavorful and rich. There is the right portion of onions and sauce and one of the tastiest noodles in the local area. Jjambong - 8/10 very rich and flavorful soup, I usually get this along with the noodles. It isn't too spicy and has a lot of seafood inside. Tangsuyuk - 8/10, the pork is crispy and delicious, deep fried to perfection. They give a sweet and sour sauce that you can pour over the pork or use as dipping. Def a good protein to add with your jjajangmyun. Parking is usually easy to find unless the market is really busy and the service here is great. This is a great spot to get Korean/Chinese style foods. Be sure to ask for their daikon (yellow radish) and onions on the side! read more

All of the fried noodles have that great "wok hei" flavor! Jajang Bap (Black Bean sauce omelette with rice) and Tangsuyuk (sweet sour deep fried pork) also really hit the spot for us! Paik's is the best. I grew up on Korean Chinese cuisine. It's my fave. They don't drown onions in the jjajang sauce to the point of no sauce. The jjajang-myeon is TASTY. The tangsuyuk is just the right crisp and not over greasy, which is hard to do. The sauce...maaaaan. Idk what some folks are thinking bc it's delicious. When my uncle visited from Korea, even he was surprised. He ate here 2x before he left. My sister barely eats noodles, but ate the whole bowl. You don't usually get rice, just like other standard dishes like Ddukguk doesn't come with rice. I didn't make up the rules. Paik's is fast food, but better, not some fancy place. The prices are very fair, especially in these times. I only had one incident bc the main guy wasn't there. The staff completely forgot my order and cooked FIVE orders before me who came after me. Until I brought it to their attention two orders in. Took 40 minutes! Other than that, I've always gotten my food fresh within 10 minutes. So, decided to try the Gochu Jamppong, yes, it is a little more spicy than the regular Jamppong, but still enjoyable as the heat went away quickly. They also added garlic paste, so consider that when ordering. If you can handle spicy, go with Gochu Jamppong, it got my nose running and tears flowing, really loved it. read more
