One of the best Indian meals I've had in a long time.Paheli Indian Cuisine in Wayne, NJ is well worth the short drive out of the city. This chic, dimly lit, BYOB spot is perfect for a nice dinner with family or friends--or a date night. We even got to meet the owner, Rahul, who personally checked in on every table to make sure everyone was having a great experience. Such a welcoming touch. I dined here over the holidays and absolutely loved both the food and the overall experience. Some standout dishes for me were the goat dum biryani, chicken tikka masala, hakka noodles, and navratan korma. Recently, we visited their sister restaurant Paheli after trying Praana earlier, where Uma (our server) had recommended this place--it had been on our wish list ever since. It was Bengali and Maithili new year and just like we follow the tradition back in India (means eating outside), we decided to come here with our little family. The restaurant is bigger than Praana and feels more like a fine dining place. The ambience looks nice with an Indian theme. Since it was a weekday, it was not very crowded, which was good. And surprisingly, Uma was our server again--she even recognized us What we ordered: *Lamb Pepper Fry (4.5/5): Usually this dish is served dry in most places, but here it came with a little gravy. immediately I ordered garlic naan with it, and it tasted really good together. Even though I prefer it dry, this was the best dish we had. *Tawa Fish Fry (3.5/5): It was basically fried tilapia. Tasted okay, nothing special. * Chef's Special Masala Roast (Lamb): Many people seem to like this dish, but for me it was just average. The presentation was nice. It comes with a small portion of masala rice, which was actually tasty--I just wish there was more of it. Overall, the lamb gravy felt quite normal and not something special. While eating, I told Uma that in Praana there was at least one dish that really stood out, but here I didn't feel that. Very clean restaurant and very nice staff. The lamb korma has a nice sauce and a generous portion of lamb. We ordered it medium and it tasted mild. I had the chicken curry, which was a nice portion of chicken and came with rice. It wasn't as tasty as last time. Today, I ordered it at the hottest level and the waitress confirmed. I've had it medium here in the past, which tasted very mild. Today, the hottest level tasted like mild+. I don't generally eat hot food anymore. But when I do order it, it's very disappointing when it comes back bland. I don't think I'll return, but I wish them the best! read more

I came to this restaurant for dinner. I parked in the plaza lot and walked into a gorgeous restaurant. I was greeted and sat. The place is byob for now. I ordered: Mocktail Mango Drink Avacado Behl Sautéed Scallops Soya Chaat Chicken Kabob Seabass Malabar Curry Chef's Special Masala Roast Galab Jamun Brulee I loved the mocktail and I also loved the scallops! Eating or drinking out of plastic containers exposes you to microplastic that has been linked to dementia, heart disease & cancer. Also less than 8% of plastic has been recycled. It breaks down into smaller particles and contaminates our water. Black plastic is made with recycled electronics and is especially toxic. When plastic is exposed to heat, the chemicals leak out into the food. We ordered some channa masala for take out. This was a huge mistake. The food was OK but it wasn't worth the microplastics and other chemicals. My dog didn't like it either. There are many alternatives to these toxic containers. I won't patronize a business that doesn't regard my health or the environment. If you're going to get food there, please dine in. read more

08/13/2025 I have enjoyed Indian cuisine for quite a few years now, but it's been a little bit of a struggle to get my wife on board. Slowly she's enjoying it more and more and Paheli's kitchen is helping that 'cause.' THey've opened up in a new location in the old Corrado shopping center. They're old location is now called Praana, serving vegetarian cuisine only. Here at the Paheli Modern Indian restaurant, the atmosphere and ambiance is very comfortable. Service is friendly and prompt. But the food! Everything is just so amazing. We stated with Samosas and Tandoori vegetables. I could have made a meal from these 2 dishes alone. Cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly... not too spicy. Yum! My wife enjoy their Butter chicken ... which tastes very buttery, but then it should, right? My favorite Indian sauce is Tikka Masala, Lamb, chicken, shrimp... whatever and their version of chicken Tikka masala is as good as I've ever had. This is some of the best Indian food I've had in these parts! The butter chicken and lamb vindaloo we ordered are amazing, with very tender chicken chunks, and a subtle tandoori smokiness peeking through. The lachha paratha is beautifully flaky and buttery. Even my (picky but fine palated) toddler loved the food. The owner and staff are warm, welcoming, and accommodating. They were sweet to give us some complimentary stuffed naan to try (I think it was the Paheli naan) - so delicious and pillowy, almost like a pizza; you definitely won't regret ordering this. Stumbled on this spot which appears to have many specials and fantastic food! Ordered chicken biryani which was freshly made but unfortunately highly salted! Had their tandoori chicken which was excellent! Juicy chicken! Their lamb vindaloo was spicy and bursting with flavor! Ate the food so quickly forgot to get pics but was able to get shots of their pani puri which was refreshing! They have an unlimited Thali special which I will return to try! Very disappointing experience. We visited as a family of 8 and the service was extremely slow and inattentive from the beginning. We weren't given menus until we asked and then waited 20 minutes to order drinks and appetizers. While those arrived in a reasonable time, we then waited another 15 minutes just to place our main course order. It took nearly an hour for the food to arrive. They forgot our naan, which took another 15 minutes after we reminded them. By the time it arrived, the rest of the food was cold. My parents, who are in their late 80s, ended up eating only sabji and rice. To make matters worse, yogurt was accidentally spilled on my niece's hair, and no manager or owner came over to check on her or offer a proper apology. That lack of attention and accountability was unacceptable. Food quality was inconsistent. Only the malai kebab and palak chaat appetizers were decent. Overall, the long wait times, lack of attentiveness, and inconsistent food quality made this a frustrating experience. Based on our visit, we cannot recommend this restaurant. This version sounds calm, confident, and trustworthy -- which often makes reviews more impactful. read more

Stranded with no power at our house due to a "microburst"...small tornado, I decided to put ourselves up at a hotel near our favorite Indian restaurant while we waited for electricity to come back. They serve the fluffiest naan I've ever had. The pani puri is always fun to eat and the Samosas come out so piping hot that it seems and eternity to wait to eat it but it's worth the wait. The service is always quick with servers waiting to please. The restaurant is an elegant but casual affair. I am always comfortable when dining here. My husband and I had a dinner date at Paheli Indian Cuisine this weekend. This was our first time here, and it was an excellent dining experience! The vibe inside was relaxed. I liked the decor, lighting, and music, which all together created a calm and chill atmosphere for dining. Everyone who interacted with us was friendly and very hospitable. At one point, the owner circled around to greet people and spoke with each dining party there. This was really a nice thing because you could tell it was all genuine. Below is what we ordered with short notes: - Chai Masala Teas - Samosas (the chutneys that accompanied them tasted homemade and were flavorful) - Palak Paneer (One of the best Palak Paneers I've had) - Kashmiri Pulao, a sweet rice with nuts and fruits (We were fans, but you may not be into it if you like more savory dishes) - Peshwari Naan (This was my favorite item of the night; I always have to try this item if it's on a menu. I liked PIC's version) - Garlic Naan That night, along with dine-in parties, there was steady flow of takeout/pick-up orders which signaled to me that they have regular customers. Met some friends here to satisfy a craving for Indian food, it was conveniently located and discovered just off a Google search. It will now be recommended! The lamb chops the server suggested as a starter were unbelievable. The amuse bouche was unexpected and appreciated, a delightful fruity chutney in a poppadom style nest. This is high end quality dining in a relaxed and personal setting. The mains we ordered were staples, a tikka masala, a butter chicken and a lamb biryani. Though the order was milquetoast, the flavor was extravagant. The first mouthful of the lamb biryani was a goddamn revelation. I didn't know you could pack so much flavor into one forkful. I feel like an idiot that I've been eating other things, knowing now that this warmth and depth of flavor was available to me the whole time! Seriously, this food is unbelievably delicious. Its spice is exacting, it's floral and delicate but also homey. The service was really good, accommodating and genuinely kind. The portions were magnificent, everyone went home with more than enough for another meal. My only gripe is the table wasn't large enough to comfortably situate such a grand meal! The price was absolutely reasonable after all was said and done. I'm sure dessert would have been fantastic if we had any room, but that's for next time! Amazing. My dinner here was just amazing. Easily among the best Fine Indian Cuisine I've had in the US. The service, the owners and the dishes were all top tier. If you don't want to read this lengthy review, then know from the stars and my review opening it's an absolute must try reccomendation from me. Came here with my family on a weekday for dinner and thankfully got a seat, there are people reserving here and it was pretty crowded even on a weekday. To start we got the Masala Chai for drinks and got the Chicken 65 as an appetizer and they were both good. The chai was bold and didn't hold back in the Masala aspect as most restaurants do to make it more palatable to Americans. Chicken 65 is a South Indian dish and it was perfectly made and presented with the spice that South Indian cuisine is known for and left us satisfied and awaiting the next course of our entrees. For entrees I got the Chef's Special Masala Roast, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Chef's Special Roast is a unique Goan inspired roast that was truly unique. Incredibly well seasoned and the commingling of flavors perfectly accentuated each other to really elevate the flavor. I've never had anything like this before. The owner, who is a very affable and charismatic individual with a bassy voice explained to us the origins and the inspiration behind this dish. The Butter Chicken was a hit with my family, it wasn't the best I've ever had but was definitely among the top. Velvety smooth as a good Makhni should be and full bodied with sweet aromatic flavor. The Chicken Tikka Masala was great as well, a little overt in its sweetness but the flavor was still good. The portions are a good amount as well. We are the curries with 3 orders of Garlic naan. Garlic naans were fresh and paired well with the curries. For dessert we got the Falooda and Gulab Jamun. Gulab Jamun hits the spot, it's a well known Indian dessert and my personal favorite. Paheli did it justice and I wolfed it down. The Falooda was unique, had vermicelli noodles in it and kulfi ice cream that really made it a fresh experience along with their other additions. Can't go wrong ordering either of these. My family and I had a great experience at Paheli and I can see us returning here multiple times. Great food, great conversations and great ambiance. We enjoyed it the first time we went so again we go. We tried going a week before but it was so packed so we went back the next week. This time it wasn't anybody in there except for 2 people and after they left, we were the only ones in there. I don't know if that was the owner that was talking to us but he made us want to be there. I got his recommendation from him and it was actually really good.
