This review is for the paddington pump sit down restaurant. Service here was awful. There is a take away stand which I should've gone to. I ordered the breakfast on a bun sandwich and had asked for french fries on the side. They ended up giving me home fries and then our waitress disappeared. She never came around to ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. Halfway through our meal a different waitress came up to our table with the bill saying the other waitresses were saying that we had been asking for the bill (we hadn't since there was no one around to ask even if we had wanted to). When we had finished and our waitress appeared out of nowhere to take the plates. No smiles, no customer service. I will avoid the sit down paddington's pump and stick with take away stand to avoid the unpleasant meal experience. read more

My favorite eggs benny in the city. The hollandaise is intense: super creamy and thick. You may want to order it on the side instead but trust me, you'll want to dip everything in it. This place is a little cracker. We went for lunch there yesterday while exploring the market. and we were certainly not disappointed. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the service was spot on and we received V.I.P. treatment from our Server. We chose burgers and they were gorgeous. The meat was cooked to perfection, the only complaint was the portion sizes were huge and we just couldn't finish it all. Horrible service. Went on a weekend with wife and were ignored throughout the whole time we were there. With the place being three quarter filled, we had to wait for 10 minutes to be seated and then Gods however long until we finally got up and decided to leave. Don't you have any taste? I couldn't have the pancakes b/c there was no real maple syrup option. The coffee was diner quality and refills were $0.75 extra. The Eggs Benedict was practically raw and boring, the homefries were undercooked, mushy and salty. I was recently here for a friend's birthday breakfast, and all I can say is Happy Birthday! I've been going here for years and it gets better as time passes. Even when I only pop in for 10 minutes, I have a great experience. They use fresh and local ingredients, none of that MSG garbage. It's part of St. Lawrence Market, so I always make sure to stock up on crackets, crumbles and so much chocolates! The eggs with the cream dress is a real crowd-pleaser! Stopped in today for the first time after doing some shopping at St. Lawrence market. Sat at the bar, thinking I'd relax, have a beer or two and maybe read the paper. Unfortunately the bartender (platinum blonde) decided she'd rather chat with the regulars than bother serving me. She looked over, but not a "Hello, I'll be with you in a minute!". Nothing. I had been to Paddingtons before and had an excellent experience. I went again with some friends recently. It was a busy day so we expected a bit of a wait. What we weren't expecting was the utter rudeness of our waitress. My friend was taking a minute longer to order, than the rest of us, when the waitress grabbed the menu from her hand writing down the first thing my friend had said she might want. When it came time to settle the bills my friend paid with cash she told the lady she didn't need the change back, as it was part of the tip. The waitress automatically assumed my friend meant this was the only tip we were leaving and began angrily lecturing us on proper tipping. The three of us were shocked as we were all taking out change for the rest of her tip (I had a five dollar bill in my hand). We had done absolutely nothing to cause this woman difficulty or give her reason to believe we weren't going to tip her. We left feeling offended and upset an other wise lovely afternoon ruined. 07/31/15; we have eaten at paddington several times, and never been dissatisfied. the service and the food was top notch. i had the eggs benedict firm with smoked salmon which was great. our friend mary had a standard breakfast of bacon, scrambled egg with cheese and home fries. she was thoroughly satisfied with that meal. my sister had the blt with fries one day and then she had a grilled cheese with friesthe other day. we have been satisfied with our meal at paddinton each time we have had a meal there. read more

SAVE YOURSELF! So let's start by saying their fries were delicious and the kids liked their chocolate chip pancakes. Beyond that it's hard to find something to say other than "RUN!" We sat down a little after 11 and it took nearly 30 minutes to get our drinks bc our waitress brought, not only the wrong drinks, but took more than 5 trips to bring 11 people their drinks. Then while my family was getting their food the waitress was back over asking me what I ordered bc she couldn't read her own writing. After 3 orders of food that we didn't order and everyone else in our party finishing their food, I finally got my eggs Benedict and it was awful! I do give them credit for what tasted like their own homemade hollandaise but it wasn't my jam AT ALL! Let's step back though bc while I was waiting on my Bene still we went ahead and asked for checks. Well that's was a nightmare. Somehow a request for 3 checks turned into 2. Then a further request to split them into the three we had asked for initially somehow resulted in 5 tickets with items we didn't order on it. We finally had to go to the bar to ask for someone's help in resolving the issue. I will say that once we talked to another server/bartender and asked for help they fixed the problem instantly and swiftly. All-in-all we spent a shitload of money on mediocre food and missed our show at Second City bc it took more than 2 extremely frustrating hours to get breakfast. Okay food, horrible service. Came here for an early lunch on Saturday and saw that most people were having breakfast. The waitress came around and took our orders, I ordered a reuben sandwich and my wife had the liver and onions. Just after taking our order our waitress we saw our waitress sat down at the bar to eat her lunch and we waited forever before our food came. Some people who arrived and ordered after us had finished their meals and left and we were still waiting for our food to arrive. The waitress didn't tell us anything about lunch items taking much longer, otherwise we would have just ordered breakfast. I was able to flag down another waitress who finally brought us our food. My reuben was okay and my wife's liver was not bad but it was not hot at all. It seemed like it had been sitting out for a long time waiting to be delivered to our table. Still not too bad, but hen I walked to the bar to pay the bill I saw our waitress (still sitting at the bar eating) and she asked how the food was and I politely told her it was good but the liver was not hot. Instead of being in any way apologetic she was argumentative, insisting the food was not cold. Okay. But she was still very slow to give me back my change. She still felt very deserving of a good tip despite the non existent service, cold food and very rude behaviour. It's really a shame that a place with a great location and not bad food is ruined by terrible service. read more

On my recent trip to Toronto I was interested in trying the local favorite called the PEAMEAL BACON SANDWICH. After having several, I have decided that my favorite was from Paddington's Pump. Now for those of you not familiar with PEAMEAL BACON it isn't like regular bacon. It's more like Pork Roll or Taylor Ham that we have here in the North East. It's sliced but slightly thick and covered with dried and ground yellow peas. I walked to the counter and saw that there we a bunch of accompaniments that you could get on the sandwich. Lettuce, tomato, onions and a bunch of sauces in squirt bottles. I asked the gentleman what the traditional way to eat it. He said just plain piled on the bun was fine but he liked it with mustard. I went with the mustard. This is such a simple sandwich (peameal bacon, mustard, bun) that it is very surprising just how tasty it is. Then again...bacon. I would highly recommend that you try several of these around the city on your trip to Toronto and be sure to stop by Paddington's Pump to give theirs a try. read more

Went to Paddington's Pump this afternoon. Been there before. The food is super cheap and quite good. But the service is consistently horrible. We were met by a waitress who told us to sit where we liked and then when we did she screamed "not there, that's not for a party of two". We explained there was another person joining us, and she scowled "well, ok then". The other person joined us promptly, however we waited another 20 minutes with no service. This is the third time I've been there and not felt welcome (yes, shame on me!) Probably not going back again. read more

I popped into Paddington's yesterday evening to have a bite before watching a movie and ordered the chicken souvlaki pita with soup and a pint of beer from the waitress there. My order arrived but it was the chicken souvlaki dinner. I told the waitress that it wasn't my order but said that it's ok because it's already made and I figured the food would get thrown out anyway. After a few mins asked the waitress if the dinner would cost more than the pita. She checked the menu and said that it does but she will get someone to void it. Soon after a large man dressed in white came by and told me that I would have to pay for the dinner because I am eating it. I went on to explain to him that it was not what i originally ordered. But he kept trying to interrupt and speak over me to get me to pay for the dinner. He said that I should have said something when the order was brought over. And as I tried to explain to him what happened he kept on interrupting me. At this point I was getting fed up with his rudeness decided to let him know that i didn't want to eat here any more but have a hard time getting him to hear me so I put my finger up to my lips to signal to him that he should stop talking and try to listen to his customer and at this point he said "you are not my father you don't shush me!" He told me that I better "get out before he kicks my ass out" So far I only had a few sips of my beer and few bites of the salad, I haven't touched the chicken yet. I was more than happy to leave that place and I told the big guy how I felt. I told him that he was unnecessarily rude for interrupting me and he said that I was rude for shushing him. I got up to put on my coat and he walked away. At this point I looked over at the waitress who served me, who was a sweetheart through my entire short - lived stay at Paddington's, and she told me sorry. I completely understand that stuff happens and I was more than willing to just roll with it. It was the attitude of this other guy that turned me off from that place. On my way out I saw another customer standing up on the side watching and asked him if he worked here too. He said he didn't but that big guy was his friend. I asked if the big guy was the chef and found out that he was actually the owner. I really feel sorry for the people that have to work for a guy like that. That was my first and last visit there. Food was good and service was great but the owner is the furthest thing from a respectable or respectful business owner. read more

I am a big fan of the food from Paddingon's and frequent the take out service on a regular basis, I talked my friend into having lunch here on saturday and to say the least our experience was not enjoyable. We had time to peruse the menu at the door while waiting to get seated. When we were seated we were able to place our order with out making the waitress return after bringing our drinks. I understand it was a busy day but over 30 minutes wait for our food to arrive was unacceptable. When I mentioned it to the waitress she got quite offended and we never saw her again, someone else took over our table. We got the explanation that as it was busy and the orders placed before us may have been for larger parties and the patio was also in the equation it made the waiting time longer. Following this logic can it be explained why a couple were seated at the table next to us a good 10 minutes after us got their food and finished and were paying their bill when our food arrived, and a couple next to them who also arrived around the same time they did got their food right before us. Food itself was also a disappointment, my friend got a veal sandwich and the veal was so hard and dry she could not eat it. This will be the last time I will eat in this restaurant, takeout service is much better then the eat in experience. read more

I have been coming to this establishment for over 10 years and this was the absolute worst experience - it's a shame because the food was good but the overall service was horrible! My family and I visited Paddington's on Sunday March 25 at 10am and our order was placed shortly after. The server was new but was found to polite. Now let the service issues began....out food didn't arrive until 1040am after repeated attempts to find out what the delay was. The restaurant wasn't busy as it usually is and no valid reason was provided....we got, oh we have a lot of takeout orders that's slowing down the kitchen...interesting didn't see anyone walking out with takeout bags as we sat right next to the door! Interesting also how people who arrived around 1020am, 1030am received their food only minutes after we did! I guess they caught up real fast. Oh it gets better...so my son asked for fries instead of potatoes and when his meal arrived, no fries but potatoes. This was pointed out to the server and we said we'll keep the potatoes....a few minutes a plate of fries showed up and the server stated that she will have to charge us if my son decides to eat the fries and the potatoes!!! Wow!! The kitchen screws up and the customer has to pay....really!! Do you believe that!! I was totally shocked!! So I asked to speak to the manager to discuss this ridiculous decision...and guess what!!??? Yuuuuuupp, he was too busy to talk to a customer!! Now that's what I call service!! I can tell you, I will definitely tell everyone I know that eggs are eggs and to go elsewhere!!
