    Burger and fries

This restaurant is a Time Machine back to the 80s where greasy spoons were at every corner. The decor is dated which is fine but the banquette need to be overhauled because they are so low and uncomfortable. Service was very good-because they were engaging and attentive. The food portions are massive and the price points were very fair - so you won't leave hungry. I had the burger and fries which was very good. The patty was 100% beef with no fillers which equated to a lovely bite. I wish the burger was cooked at a medium because it could have been juicier. The fries were amazing and I could not stop eating them. Kids had the pancake and the wife had this enormous western - bacon sandwich. Overall this is an amazing diner that offers great value and service.

Great find!!! I was looking for somewhere special to eat on the way out of TO. Stopped in. A few kms off of the 401. Established in 1958 this little gem peaked my curiosity. Walked into the 80's with the decor and paraphernalia. Sat at a booth by myself and enjoyed the ambiance. Every little nook has an item or a photo. They have friendly staff that stops to chat or a quick explanation of their menu. The plates keep appearing on the ledge between the kitchen and the dining room. Everything is oversized and steaming hot. Trying not to pry on my neighbour I glance around trying to take in as much as I can. My plate arrives, Benny eggs with their specialty peameal bacon. Sooooo good. Great hollandaise sauce. The eggs done just right. I really enjoyed my meal. I even took time to chat with the chef. Too far to come weekly but I recommend it.

    Peameal Bacon Eggs Benedict

When we go on trips, we usually like to try local places to help support small businesses. The boyfriend is in love with peameal bacon so when we saw they had Eggs Benedict's with peameal bacon, it was not a hard decision to choose this place for brunch. We wanted a good meal to fuel us for a full day of Pokémon hunting and Rainbow Restaurant did not disappoint. As soon as you walk in you can tell a place is great by how busy it is. The atmosphere really brings you back to a traditional family owned business (which they are) with photos around the dining areas. You are greeted not only by the person behind the register who happens to also be your server but your also greeted by the chefs behind the kitchen. The peameal bacon here is official! The Eggs Benedict came with three thick cut slices over English muffin toasts topped with two beautifully cooked poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was also yummy! Our home fries also came with a nice crisp to it. Our server was friendly and made sure we were alright throughout the meal. Definitely a great brunch spot and will probably try other things off the menu next time we're in town!

Eggs benny with no meat :)

Met a couple of my friends for a long overdue catch up over brunch. Being that I live in Toronto, and my friends live in Peterborough and Whitby respectively, we felt this spot was pretty equidistant to all of us. Love the vibe of the restaurant- when you first walk in, you feel totally stuck in a time warp but in an endearing, nostalgic kind of way. They have pictures adorning the wood paneled walls with people who have visited over the years. For sure would say this spot is for meat lovers and also those with big appetites - there weren't many veggie or vegan options on the menu but massive portion sizes. I ended up ordering their eggs benny with the peameal on the side as my meal. The benny was delicious - sauce was rich and velvety, seemed to be house made. The home fries were deliciously crispy and crunchy plus I loved the hot mustard they provided on our table. The eggs in my benny were cooked perfectly. Randomly when I visited, the restaurant was really really hot inside but it could have been related to the fact it was a very mild April day outside. At a couple of points I was almost sweating while eating - not cute. As others have mentioned, this place is cash only but there is an ATM on site. I ended up purchasing a couple of butter tarts to go home to my husband and they were amazing. For sure would return again if in the area.

Best greasy spoon/diner in Oshawa. The decor is nothing to look at and not very big inside but the food is amazing and Louie the owner is an amazing chef. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the service was quick. I order the Farmer Sausage breakfast which is one of my favourites or I usually order the pea meal bacon both come with three eggs, home fries and choice of toast. My buddy order pancakes and bacon which he was craving and he said they were perfect and fluffy. They also have daily lunch specials and an amazing menu full of Louie's personal creations. Check this place out especially if your hungry and you don't care about decor and your not afraid of a little yummy grease.

A pot of gold full of Peameal Bacon is to be found at the Rainbow Family Restaurant.. This is an old school Dive Diner with Breakfast to bust your gut so come hungry. A friend told me I had to try the peameal bacon breakfast special here and all I can say is WOW..( pic posted) This is the Biggest thickest and most tender slices of peameal Bacon I have ever had so I had to give them 4 stars for it and might have gone 5 but the coffee was a little too hi octane for my tastes. Interior of the place shows its age and is covered with crazy old pictures and bad furniture..LOVE IT! if you like old school greasy spoons and character this is the place for you...I hope they never remodel :)

We've been and gone from here this morning now but, now that I'm stationary long enough to check in, Rainbow Family Restaurant is a small little greasy spoon stuck in the 60's and 70's and, thank god for it. By far, THE best and my favourite breakfast joint, anywhere, hands down. Huge portions, ridiculously cheap and the staff is the type to make you feel like you've been a regular customer for years. I love this place!

The Lumber Jack! Portions are huge!!!!

It is a small joint with maybe 10 -12 tables (some booths) being run by two very lovely ladies who were really helpful. We opted for a medium Canadian walk in special, spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garden salad. You need to order at the front and sit down and they call you when the food is ready. I did not try the pizza but my daughter really enjoyed their Canadian. My spaghetti and meatballs came with excellent meatballs but it was a little too saucy for my liking. We only got to sample a bit of the salad but the roasted red pepper that come with the salad was a nice and sweet and you could tell it was roasted in house, not the sour stuff that come out of a jar. Our overall experience was pretty good but I think at this price point, I expected a little more like real plates and cutlery maybe? I didn't love eating my pasta with disposable wooden fork that came pre-packaged with a wooden knife, napkin and a salt and pepper packet which seemed more wasteful than anything. I would come back to try out their sandwiches next time and skip the pasta.

We excitedly tried here today. We ordered: Wings $7.29 * Six Wings * Sauce on Wings * Medium Sauce Medium Margherita Pizza $19.65 Veal Sandwich $11.99 The pizza had fresh basil leaves, fresh tomato & sauce. Mozzarella was not fresh mozzarella. The crust was not Naopolitan style, but tasty with a good texture. Not thick, not thin. This crust may go better with other toppings. The wings are reasonably priced, and not dry. The sauce was good. I had high expectations for their Veal Sandwich, as it is highly reputed. I liked the fluffy Kaiser bun - not flat, not soggy in spite of the saucy fillings. Yes, there were multiple layers of veal cutlets but they lacked veal taste. All I tasted was the deep-fried crust coated with tomato sauce. The size was big, and it is "filling" for sure. Although I was a bit disappointed, I think I had too high an expectation from the reputations. If I want something different from those famous chain pizza joints, this place is definitely to go!

Ryan is the founder of the business, which he runs with family and friends. We got to meet Riott, his son, who had a love for skulls and all Halloween decorations at this eatery. This place specializes in sandwiches. Many of their meats are slow-cooked for ten hours. Sauces, soups, and slaw are homemade. We ordered many items off the menu and had what we liked: - Jalapeno and house slaws - Chickpea and ham soup - Roasted garlic and tomato soup - The Brooklyn (Italian) - Hot corned beef - Montreal smoked meat - Slicey's chopped chicken - Chicken club wrap I started with the hot corned beef sandwich. The corned beef was generous and so flavourful. The rye bread held all that tender corned beef together, along with the best grainy mustard aioli. I am a soup girl. I enjoyed the roasted garlic and tomato soup. It had the perfect amount of garlic with tomatoes, along with onions and spices. It was a comforting, smooth soup. The chickpea and ham soup was excellent. It had nice cubes of ham with chickpeas. It was so hearty and delicious. I also love slaw. The jalapeno and house slaws were crunchy. The former was creamy with a touch of heat. The latter was vinegar-based. You get the best of both slaw dressing worlds! I then had the Montreal smoked meat. It was full of the most tender smoked meat on rye bread with mustard. So good! I'm not sure how I managed to down Slicey's chopped chicken sandwich. It was so good that I did! It had slow-cooked chicken that was chopped with tomato, and red onion. It included the jalapeno slaw, along with white cheddar. It was messy to eat, but so worth it. The flavours were outstanding. This business supports other local businesses. The bread comes from a local bakery. It also features Purple Tongue hot sauces. Staff are super friendly and kind. They can craft a sandwich to your liking if you go with The Riott. There were two separate washroom stalls. I used one of them before I left this eatery. It was clean. No complaints. It's a comfortable place to hang out with friends over good food and drinks. I ended up having a Diet Coke and Crush cream soda during the two hours that we were here. They were cold and refreshing. It's street parking for three hours. It's free, which is nice. Alternatively, there is a parking lot across from this eatery. I look forward to returning for more good eats and soup.
