Pad Thai Express is my new favorite Thai restaurant in Olympia. Since moving to Olympia almost 2 years ago, we have been looking for a new spicy heaven which blends are love of heat and tofu. A co-worker introduced me to Pad Thai when she brought a catered dish to a potluck and I fell in love with the slow heat, green beans, and tofu. We've been getting our Thai food from here for years. While there isn't truly 100% authentic, non-Americanized Asian choices in the Olympia/Lacey area, I'd have to say that these guys are the best out of what we have available to us. Their curries are excellent, as is their pineapple fried rice. My only fairly recent complaint is that I felt as though their portions got smaller as their prices got higher. That said I'm happy that they seem to be consistently busy whenever I go to pick up my food, especially during these times. Called to see if they were open twice, since google showed they were open. (It being New Years Day) No one answered the phone either time. Went to another restaurant , 2 hours later this restaurant calls my phone number back asking if a name they mentioned called to place an order. I said No, to both question, "We didn't place an order and I don't know who you're asking for". The gal on the phone, said "Well don't call and place an order and not pick it up". I told her I didn't. Rude comment to make to a customer, and accuse them. This is somewhere by the, we've been to multiple times. (Trying to help small businesses, due to Covid) She proceeded to say, "We're calling back numbers from the history to who placed this order". The food is great but pricey. Expect 9.99 a plate and no lunch specials. It's not bad when you want good Thai in Olympia but it adds up when you get a drink and side. A main dish plus a cup of soup and a bubble tea ran 23/24 bucks. Taking 2 stars for it is waaaay too hot inside. Unbearable, it's 80 degrees outside with a little breeze and zero air conditioning or a fan of any sort inside. I feel bad for the cooks. We ate our meal outside as it's cooler. read more

I had a horrible experience here. I grew up eating thai food in Oregon and Washington. I live in vancouver, wa but came up to olympia to go visit my brother at the college. I ordered pad kee mao with tofu and extra veggies medium heat. My family was eating nearby at herfys. I sat with them there and tried to eat the food. It had an overly sweet sauce. Since I've had it numerous times, that was unexpected. So I went back asking for soy sauce to cut the sweetness. It didn't help. I had eaten 1/4 of the food after trying my best to cut the sweetness. I returned the food, bag And all and asked if the sweetness was normal. They said yes. Strange considering the sauce I get at other places is chili based, saucy and spicy. I ordered a curry dish instead. When I returned to pick it up I was met with glares and was told I ate too much of the original dish to get a replacement. They held the curry and my dish side by side saying if there's an issue eat less and return it. I said did you want to keep the curry? I'm visiting, it's my first time here and I don't have plans to come back after this discussion. They said today you can have the curry, next time no. I said I won't be back then. Incredibly rude and disgraceful experience. I eat thai food 2x a week at home. I know what it usually tastes like. I also know what respectful customer service is. This was not it. Went there today and got mango sticky rice, chicken basil fried rice, and orange chicken. The orange chicken tasted like sweet and sour chicken, no complaints but also it had no actual orange flavor. The food was exquisite! My husband and I are absolute newbies when it comes to Thai food but this was definitely tasty. The food was fresh and hot, made to order. I felt the prices were high per dish (about $8.99) but once we received our food that notion went out the window. My husband and I had leftovers for three days which we ate happily. We ordered Beef Pad Thai and Sweet and Sour Chicken with egg rolls for an appetizer. The plum sauce (with the egg rolls) is incredible and you will definitely want more even though they give you a generous amount. The egg rolls seemed fresh and the ingredients were spot on in texture and flavor. The sweet and sour chicken is unlike anything I've had before in its unique flavors and has completely spoiled me from ever ordering American Chinese sweet and sour chicken ever again. The rice that's served with it, I think is Jasmine, is so soft and fluffy it melts in your mouth. The Beef Pad Thai was out of the world with flavor. I'd even say you don't even need the 'beef' you won't miss it, the Pad Thai shines so brightly. When you order, it seems most options come with your choice of meat: chicken, beef or pork. I believe you can also do tofu. This made the price seem more reasonable once I understood this, as I didn't notice anything about this on the menu. The waitress was very nice. When we came in there were two families eating in. Due to all the dirty dishes around we got ours to go. This may not be typical but I don't know, perhaps their cleaning person was out. I only know it was off putting for my party. While we waited, which felt like eternity with all the dirty dishes around us but was really probably only ten minutes, like five more families came in to order - mostly to go. The place was hopping with business and it made my husband I more confident in our choice of restaurant. I'm always worried about trying new places cause we don't eat out much. The atmosphere needs improvement. It looks like a converted Taco Del Mar which is fun and festive but it needs some deep cleaning on the customer side. All in all, I highly recommend this restaurant. Large portion sizes. Good price point. The Satay chicken came with 4 large pieces and a generous peanut sauce. The chef special Spicy Asparagus was very good. The tofu Phad Thai was also quite large. Several weeks ago, I ordered the pad Thai, Tom kha soup, gyoza, and a Thai iced coffee. I took it home and dug in, only to realize I didn't have the iced coffee. The food was delicious, but it would have been better with a cold drink to lessen the burn of the spicy soup and hot noodles. Today, I came in to make the same order, and the young man behind the counter recognized me and apologized for the missing coffee. He immediately offered me one today at no charge. Definitely not impressed. When we got here I noticed a lot of full plates on empty tables. I was hoping that wasn't an impression of the quality of food here but sadly it is. We ordered the crab wontons, there was barely any filling and it had almost a mayonnaise taste to it. The sauce was ok. We had the chicken pad Thai and orange chicken. The orange chicken Was so fried it was tough and super oily. The flavor of the sauce was good. The pad Thai chicken and egg were blackened and the overall dish was just not good. I have enjoyed every dish I have ordered. I order the Pad Thai quite a bit and like it. Sometimes it can be a little saucy, but always good. I have read reviews about the Thai Fried Rice and how flavorful this dish is. I must agree. Super tasty. The Ginger Broccoli was good, needed more ginger. Still not a fan of their pad Thai but I am a big fan of their Thai fried rice. Actual flavorful fried rice, with a decent amount of heat (per request). Definitely not your average Americanized Chinese style rice, this has a nice smokey flavor to it from having using a professional wok with really high heat. Spiciness is from 1 to 5, I opted for a 4 which caused a nice light bit of perspiration while eating it. The pork had good flavor to it as well and there was a nice amount of perfectly cooked broccoli and a couple of wedges of tomato that had spent a bit of time in the wok too. Service was quick, the food was good and the portion was quite generous. Will be back soon and often if they maintain the quality. read more

It's a hike in the walk and definitely not "express" but the food is worth the wait and a great price! I love everything on their menu and personally I think it's tastier than Thai Garden or Lemon Grass (the other Thai-ish options near there). Decided to try this place because it is the closest thai restaurant to my home and a co-worker recommended it. Pad Thai Express is located smack in the middle of a strip mall between a Starbucks and a burger place; may seem a little suspect, but trust me it is worth a try. I visited at about 6:15 on a Saturday. When I arrived, I was the only person in the restaurant, but by the time I left the line was 4 people deep. I checked out the myriad of pictures of menu items (so helpful in deciding what you want) and decided on my standard mango fried rice and pad thai. Opted for chicken with the fried rice and prawns with the pad thai, and asked that it be prepared as spicy as possible (I like my spice). The chefs make everything after you order it; I watched from behind a little glass divider as veggies were chopped and meat was grilled. Given that, expect to wait about ten mins. From some other reviews, I wasn't sure the food would be spicy enough, but it was perfect! Liked the flavors and spice level on everything. This place is located in an abandoned Taco Del Mar. Somehow the weird surfer feel of the restaurant combines very nicely with the Thai food vibe. It makes me feel like an ex pat who has been living in some kind of drug induced stupor for a long time. I arrive in need of some real food to come back towards reality, just a little. My review is not going to be too interesting here. I have not explored the menu at all really. The sign outside says Pad Thai Express and that's what I go for, and it is super legitimate! Everything here is cooked to order. The service is awesome, always with a smile, and quick. The food speaks for itself. The flavors are perfect, it's fresh, and there's a restraint in regards to the flavor profile and what they put in there. It is really really good. We eat food from Pad Thai express very often, at least 2-3 times a month since they opened. Two years ago I would have given Pad Thai Express at least 4 stars, and recommended it to everyone I know who likes Thai food. It was the best authentic Thai food in Olympia, in my opinion. Notice I said "was". It's really gone down hill. The last few times I have been very disappointed. I believe that the Thai people who originally owned it have sold the restaurant and in my opinion, the food has really suffered. Smaller portions, bland, oily, overcooked...it's just gotten sub-par and definitely not worth the prices they charge. This is a new place I didn't know existed. We went to El Sarape on the west side only to find that it was closed and looked like it was being remodeled. My daughter suggested that she had been to a Mediterranean place for lunch with a co-worker that was good and we should go try it.I was in separate car so I followed her and she parked in the lot in front of Pad Thai Express. I got out and asked her where we were going and she pointed here. I had to explain to her that they might not be Mediterranean, being that Thailand is some distance from that region. I was a bit concerned about the "Express" in their name and the American guy at the counter. But he was just the helper and the cook looked Thai. I ordered the Massaman Curry with Brown Rice and my daughter ordered a couple of things for her and her kids. I only had 15 minutes to leave and drive to Bothell for work so I didn't pay a lot of attention. The Massaman Curry was excellent and I was delighted with the brown rice as I can't eat white rice as it kills my blood glucose levels. The only down side was I asked for 4 stars out of 5 and it was barely spicy - they must be catering to American palate spice levels. read more

Yikes prices went up quite a bit! Two egg rolls for 5.99. They were 3.99. Can anyone tell me what the egg roll dipping sauce is made of? It is clear and sweet. Follow up: guess I was wrong about the prices sorry. Last time I was there I spent $16 on curry and egg rolls. I didn't realize until I found a past receipt that I spent that much at a prior visit. I have been going here for about six years. And the customer service I have recently experienced it was not nice at all. I have this story where my cousin ordered a beef pad Thai while I was putting gas in my car and she use my phone number. The guy answered said that she would get her order in, but i did not hear until a bit after. I called hours after my classes got out, after that incident, the guy who answered had the nerve to argue with me about if I ordered or not earlier. I asked for a beef pad thai with one star but he got all defensive and said oh aren't you the same person who ordered this earlier I said no he said are you sure because he said it was the same phone number I said no it was my cousin that does not have a phone so she use mine. I ordered the beef pad Thai and had a specific time, agreed with the man who answered the phone at 3:20 PM. I went in there with my father because I felt disrespected as a loyal customer to this restaurant. This man had the nerves to laugh at my father, a full-grown man, and me, a teenager. he was not accepting our feedback back, constantly brushing off what we said and he laughed. He kept arguing like the customer is in the wrong, but in this case the customer is right, and it was very wrong of him to laugh off whatever me and my father said. He was being disrespectful and rude, kept making me feel violated by asking me questions of why I (apparently me, but it was my cousin) did not pick up the order, but it wasn't even me it was my cousin and he knew it and still have the nerves to argue over and over. My father asked him if he was the business worker just as a question he started laughing and chuckling and said yeah, no, yeah. He was stuttering from his lie and disrespect. Ive been going here for years and only have seen his face around recently. I know he is not the manager because I have been a customer at this restaurant since I was a little girl and it is not right to lie to your customers or interrogate them. When I asked him after all that, I wondered if my food was ready. I asked him if it was finished and he said no I did not think you would come. That was really horrible and rude what he did, he did not even take my order until I got into the store for my to-go meal.
