Tried this place for the first time today and I'm not exactly ecstatic about my experience. The restaurant was clean and service was quick. The food came fresh and didn't taste too bad. We got the crab Rangoon, chicken pad Thai, Bangkok noodles, and two iced Thai teas. Paid $60 including the tip. Unfortunately, the appetizer was the only thing I actually enjoyed eating and I was sad because the iced Thai tea (my fav) came warm. The ambience was somewhat awkward since there wasn't any background music playing and the host/server was socially reserved. He was kind though so I will say that. read more

Absolutely terrible! Do not believe the old pictures, the food is no longer good. Went there last night while driving back from Portland to Seattle, looked at several places online and the phad thai looked good--dark color (not reddish), had lots of green onions, bean sprouts, etc. Ordered the Phad Thai and the fresh rolls. The fresh rolls were mediocre and fairly priced at $4 each. The Phad thai was not. The Phad Thai I received had NO bean sprouts, NO onions, NO tofu. It was also completely overcooked and mushy. The beef was even mushy--like you would expect to find at a cheap chinese buffet--way over tenderized and lacking flavor. But the real problem was the lack of any texture to the entire meal, and lack of complex flavors--this was simply a thai sauce (Tamarind?) without the usual crunch and flavor from the other things you expect to see. The photo posted here is what I received. I ate about 3 bites. I told the server I was not interested in taking it to go and it was terrible. Good service might have resulted in offering me something else, might have not charged me for the food I did not eat, might have remade it--NO, not this place, complete 100% indifference. I would do zero stars if I could.. My pad thai was some of the worst, most flavorless that i've ever had.. Not to mention my noodles came out basically raw and crunched in my teeth. I definitely don't recommend eating here.. The server didn't check in.. had empty glasses for 10+ minutes. When we expressed our disappointment in the food he just stood there and didn't say anything then just walked off. When he came back he said they would only take 20% off because it takes time and ingredients to make the food.. We won't be returning. read more

I love stumbling on places that look "fine" -- only to discover they're actually really, really good! Was doing some work almost around the corner from Thai Pavilion, and so thought I'd give it a try. My only regret, truly, is that I wasn't hungrier when I went in, because what I had was excellent. It was only a lunch special -- but it was chicken panang, which is a standard order for me at Thai places. I can't put my finger on it, but it was truly excellent -- tasted slightly different from panang sauces I've had at other places. I also really appreciated that they had brown rice -- not always available in Thai restaurants I've been to. Don't know how often I'll be going to Olympia, but if you live there or are visiting, I'd really suggest checking this place out. read more

First time here and I won't not be returning. I ordered Phad Thai with shrimp, when it arrived I tried the Khalid Thai noodles and those were good. But in to a shrimp and it was bad! Bad as in rubbery in the outside and total mush on the inside. Bad taste and now here I am an hour later and becoming very sick. I've only had food poisoning one time in my life and I am sure I have it. No customers in Thai place at 12:00 noon, business district and I should have known that was a sign. Whoops!! read more

First time here and I enjoyed the food! The inside was nice and clean and there was enough seating. We were greeted by a very nice server. I ordered veggie egg-rolls and the green curry with tofu and it came with jasmine rice. This was probably one of the BEST green curry's I have ever eaten and this is coming from someone who has been to Thailand. I usually dont eat all the tofu in a lot of the dishes because it doesn't taste good but I ate almost everything. I don't know what they did with the tofu but on my goodness it was delicous! Everything came out fresh and fast and I loved the silverware they put the jasmine rice in. A few things that could've been different was the egg-rolls; they were yummy but soo hard. I almost didn't want to finish it but I did. The jasmine rice was a bit dry. Last, while the server was super sweet and nice she was a little too attentive and came by too many times and we sort of wanted to just be left to eat and enjoy our meal. I'll go back here and try other things on the menu. A lot of people came in to eat and took food to go and I got the feel this place is quite popular. read more

After looking through several Thai options in Olympia, I decided to come here on a Saturday night. Parking is on the street, parallel spots, and was free at that time. Numerous homeless people sat outside neighboring shops. My first impression upon opening was that it was a very standard mom and pop Asian restaurant. Our waitress was nice, although quite shy. Our orders consisted of egg rolls, pad kra pow, and pad thai. I was surprised to see that they didn't have drunken noodle, since it's a pretty popular Thai dish. We opted for the egg rolls with meat for an extra dollar. The meat option was chicken, which was very minuscule. It came out hot and just a couple minutes before our entrees. My friend enjoyed the pad kra pow, though the vegetables were quite mushy. My pad Thai was good, but tasted like soy sauce. We both ordered hot as our spice level, which we both found to be relatively mild. Overall, service was good. Food was okay, may decide to try another restaurant if I ever return to Olympia. read more

If you'd like slimy, over-cooked, microwaved noodles that are delivered a half hour after you've been told they would be, this is the place for you. Two stars because the cashier was polite and friendly, though when I checked in with her 20 minutes after she told me the order would be done she didn't remember who I was or what my order was. When she brought my food she tapped the bottom of the to-go box a few times with a concerned look, then turned back into the kitchen. I immediately heard a microwave turning on. The microwave turned off and she promptly returned with my food - now so hot I could barely carry it around the corner to my home. The noodles were (unsurprisingly) way over cooked, slimy, and simply had no flavor. Not worth the $12. read more

I ordered the pineapple curry with tofu and sticky rice. The curry was soooo hot and unnecessarily so. Why???? For some reason the curry seemed to taste like Campbell's tomato soup. It was the weirdest taste. The sticky rice was ok but I opted not to finish it or the rest of the meal. I don't like wasting food but this was not good. The restaurant was also pretty empty. Food came out very fast. Tom Yum soup it's amazing. Red and green curry were on point. The server is exceptionally nice despite the fact that we came in last minute before closing. I have 18 at four different time restaurant in Olympia and they're all were nasty in on authentic. This is the only place that is authentic. As a former manager for Thai restaurants where all my chef are from native, from Thailand, I give this place a five stars. The ginger fish it's OK but not to my liking because I don't like cod. I also ordered some mango sticky rice to go. So, if you're going to eat here you can go wrong with the curry you have to try it. Prices are a lot more reasonable than most dishes is around $9 to $10 dollars. Portion size is quite large and plenty to share. read more

Had the chicken pad thai, which is the cheeseburger of the Thai world, and the best benchmark I know for evaluating thai restaurants. I finally broke down and realized that in greater Olympia, I'm a 3-star-spicy kind of person, where in Seattle I'm a 2-star-spicy person. I just went ahead and ordered the food 3 stars, and it came just right, meaning I've finally figured out the local rating system. Kind of like when those Squamish 5.9 climbers go to Yosemite and learn why it's called the Yosemite decimal system, and have to readjust their, um, spicyness expectations. The food was great - I'll be back to try the curries and the peanut sauces. read more

Not too long ago, Thai Pavilion was one of my favorites. It's the only Thai place in town that has Bi Toi - warm and gooey sticky rice topped with custard, coconut cream, and a sprinkle of crunchy fennel seeds. Their coconut-broth seafood soup and vegetarian & tofu stir-fry dishes were excellent, too, if you like your Thai food on the sweeter side. Since the new owner took over the cooking has been inconsistent. Dinner can be amazing one week and disappointing the next. That said, the new owner deserves a chance to straighten things out. I will come back, for old time's sake and for the Bi Toi. If things won't improve... oh well, au revoir and thanks for all the great memories. read more

Got a take-out order of chicken pad thai. Phone order was fast and easy, and the food was ready in ten minutes. Only took a couple of minutes to run in and out to grab it. Food was fantastic and authentic. Rich with flavor and not skimping on the meat, and on top of that you get a huge portion for a cheap price (less than $10!). The spice scale was a little weak, so if you prefer a real kick with your food then make sure to order a four or five. read more

I used to look forward to treating ourselves with thai from here when near downtown. Have ordered from here maybe 5 times in the past year. We ordered this past weekend and my husband and I got food poisening. It was the only food my husband had eaten that day (he usually fasts until dinner) and I had eaten breakfast at home. We both noticed the texture of the chicken in the green curry was strange so we just didn't eat the chicken but I wish we hadn't eaten it at all. Literally, want to cry right now. Really money tight but splurged on a night out. Spent $40 on dinner for two and it was inedible. Husband had Panang Curry which had no flavor other than hot. I had the Pad See Ew with beef. It had WAAAAYYYY too many noodles for the amount of sauce, little to no flavor, and broccoli that was so overcooked that it was smoosh. The worst part was that it tasted NOTHING like pad see ew which I've had at probably 15 different restaurants in my life. EVERYTHING cried out for some kind of flavor even if it was just salt. I have been going to Thai Pavilion every few months for about 6 years. I first went there only 2 months or so after returning from a visit to Thailand. This restaurant comes closer to capturing authentic Thai flavors than any of the other places in town. If you are looking for a Vietnamese take on Thai food, then go elsewhere. This is the real thing. The Tom Yum soup is especially spot-on - I order it every single time I go! There are some other places in the area that serve dishes that are closer to what one is accustomed to for American Thai food, that is, more meat per serving and slight differences in ingredients and flavors. But overall, this place is a great balance of authenticity, quality, and price. The service is friendly, not rushed like in most chain restaurants. read more

I have to echol the other reviewers. Good and authentic, although my coworker and I both asked for our dishes to be hot (just one step down from Thai hot) and still ended up asking for Prik Nam Pla (the chilis in fish sauce) and used two small dishes of them. I ordered something I've never seen in other Thai places-Khao Soi Noodles. Thin egg (?) noodles in a coconut broth with chicken. Kind of like Tom Kha Gai with noodles. Tasty-just needed some chili zing, which we took care of by adding the extra peppers. If I lived in Olympia I would go back. read more

Been there thrice. Once in October 2007 and February 2009. Most recent meal was in January 2010 (take-out) and most memorable experience was Valentine's Day 2009. January 2010 order was Tom Yum Soup, Green Curry (beef) with rice, Chicken Satay, all up to par and highly satisfactory. This is the Valentine's Day experience. The gentleman who owns the place is a gentleman in the true sense of the word. Attentive, great to talk to and very kind. They had only one waitress at the time who was very charming, attentive and spot on with her service. We ordered the Tom Yum Koong (Spicy Shrimp Soup) which had great all round flavor. Quite possibly one of the best Tom Yums I've had outside of Asia. I like my soup hot and this was Thai Hot according to the restaurant's spice level. It was a huge serving, enough for 3 people at only $8.95 and you won't need an appetizer. We got one anyway though: Chicken Satay (4 skewers) which was grilled to perfection and served with a very tasty peanut sauce.Not the generic peanut sauce you find at most places. To drink, my lady ordered a Thai Iced Tea which was full of flavor and I ordered a Beck's (my favorite bottled lager). Both were served quick along with our appetizers. For the main course, we ordered the Ginger Fish with Chinese Mushrooms that was served in a well balanced albeit slightly sweet sauce and vegetables. That and a side of Jasmine Rice was enough for the two of us on this special day. We ate in peace even though the restaurant was lively and bustling on V-Day. The busy dinner service didn't get in the way of the solitary waitress who was prompt and very helpful at all times. Thai Pavilion had all the ingredients for a delicious meal and a perfect evening. I think this is quickly becoming my favorite Thai place in Olympia. Granted, I am obsessed with Panang curry, and that's baaaasically the only thing I've had here. They have good panang curry. It is spicy and flavorful and just rich enough without being tooo rich, and filled with large chunks of soft potatoes and carrots and red peppers. I definitely haven't found a better Panang curry at all the other Thai places I've been to in Oly, and therefore this one's my favorite. I think I've also tried the phad thai at some point, and it was pretty good too. read more

For my first two years in Olympia, this was easily in my top three restaurants, as my original 5-star review reflected. Last year, ownership changed, and I'm sorry to say it's gone somewhat downhill, as some of the recent reviews reflect. I used to go about once a week, but since the ownership change, I go once every month or two. The menu is basically unchanged, but things just aren't as good as they once were. I can't put my finger on it, but something is off, and I'm pretty sure it's the quality of ingredients. For example, the previous owners had told me how they waited to add a beef salad to the menu until they could find the perfect beef to use, and it was great. I've ordered the beef salad since, and it seems like the new owners are using much cheaper beef. I suspect the same is true for other menu items as well. Minus one star for the drop in food quality. The bigger hit for me has been the service. I used to enjoy going in and chatting with the owners. Now the service is the same typical service you get at most of the Asian restaurants around town. Even when it's not busy, the service is slow and sketchy. Minus one more star for the drop in service. read more

I was not prepared for how amazing the Evergreen Curry was going to be. I literally got a to-go box to make it last longer. The flavours were just perfect! My partner was also very pleased with his pumpkin Curry. Our wonderful waitress recommended the bi toi for dessert and it was also a grand new flavour sensation.
