We stopped by Esan Zap today for lunch with our daughter and sister, and as usual, it did not disappoint! This was our third or fourth time eating here, and it has become our go-to whenever we're in Olympia or Lacey and craving Thai food. We were the first table of the day, so we were greeted and seated right away. I also have to mention that the restroom was spotless and smelled nice, which is always a good sign when you walk into a restaurant! I get the same thing every single time...the chicken yellow curry, which they call "My Woman Curry." I still find the name hilarious and interesting! I always order a spice level 3, and for someone who loves spicy food, it's exactly what I want. It's spicy enough to have a kick but still packed with flavor. Not the kind of spicy that just burns your face off and overpowers everything else! My sister-in-law got the duck curry, which she absolutely LOVES, and she ordered a level 2 spice, which she says is perfect for her. Sean got the same curry as me, and our daughter got the beef Pad Thai with a level 3 spice. For an appetizer, we shared the chicken satay with peanut sauce and the cucumber salad that comes alongside it. That cucumber salad is so good! It has a delicious marinade that pairs perfectly with the spicy food and gives you that cool, refreshing bite in between. The service is always friendly, the restaurant is clean, and I really like the decor and atmosphere. It's just a great little spot for a flavorful Thai meal. As someone who is very, very picky when it comes to Thai food, I can honestly say this is one of the few Thai restaurants in the area that I genuinely enjoy and the ambience is not too bad. I understand that many Thai restaurants have to adjust their flavors to accommodate international taste buds, and I completely understand that. However, this place has a handful of dishes on the menu that actually taste like home and for me, that says a lot. There is something about finding those familiar, authentic flavors that immediately brings you back. Not everything has to be completely traditional for me to enjoy it, but when I find dishes that remind me of the Thai food I know and love, I definitely take notice. Quiet, clean, nicely decorated. EXCELLENT Pad Thai with Prawns and Chicken Larb. The slice level is higher than most Americanized Thai places. I got a 2 on each and could have gone higher happily, but the lady said the spoons of chili flake double with each 1/2 level up! I can't wait to return and try some of the other dishes I've never seen on another Thai menu in this area. Follow up... the servings were plenty for me to have lunch, then split the leftovers w hubby following day and still have leftovers. I have NEVER had a meal that was worst than today. We ordered the Yum Neu salad, the beef tasted old and chewy but what made it so awful was the sauce which tasted like fish sauce with flakes of chili. Could not eat it, it was so salty! Was going to order him a 3 but the server said it would be too spicy so he got a 2... It was not spicy enough for him so he'll probably get a 3 next time. Decided to go out for a "me date" and drove around Lacey. My best friend told me to go eat Thai food so, yelp led me here to Esan Zap. Located in a stripmall on a corner, you'll see sign for it by the road and a few entering in the parking lot. Walking in the establishment is clean and decorated with Asian fixtures, furniture, and plenty of seating. I was greeted by one waitress/hostess who sat me down quickly. I got water immediately after and the menu was on the table for me. I looked through the book and chose one appetizer and one entre. Fresh spring rolls : presented with 2 rolls cut in half , served with peanut sauce How Mok Talay : steamed seafood with a red curry paste and coconut cream. Served with white rice Everything just hit the spot. I've never had spring rolls with Picasa. That was a different crunch than I expected and delicious. This location offers some tasty Thai food, along with great service. I'm guessing they are family owned because they seem like they care about the details. It's always clean, the table settings are distinguished, the staff is quick to acknowledge you, and the food comes relatively fast. Beware, the spicey is, well, spicey! I only go two out of five when I order the Pad Thai, otherwise my tongue pays for it for several hours thereafter. They serve alcohol, if that's your thing, and they have bathrooms. Parking is aplenty outside. All in all, this place has become my go to Thsi restaurant in WA State! I'm never disappointed! read more

We ordered it to go! We ordered a duck dish, curry dish and Phad Thai. We ordered them all one star. The duck dish had 6 small pieces of duck and rice for 25 dollars. The duck was tuff in texture and disappointing when you pay that much. Our curry was burning our mouths when we asked for one star in spice. This has been our favorite spot but it's hard to enjoy a place when there over charging and it's too spicy. :( read more

My cousin and I were both craving Pad Thai, and the pictures of their Pad Thai on Yelp looked better than other places around the area. But when we looked through their menu, we decided to order some of our favorites that is not at all Thai restaurants: I ordered Tom Yum Fried Rice and my cousin ordered Boat Noodle. The spice level goes up to 4 stars, and we requested to go spicier than that, to do it Thai spicy. It seemed to take bit long for our food to come out. When the waiter finally brought it out, he did apologize for the wait, and asked if it's our first time there, because the kitchen was worried about us ordering the food so spicy. And it was actually spicy, just how I like it. Both dishes were tasty, great flavors. The Boat Noodle was hot, so made it more spicy for my cousin. She drank all her water, but the waiter never came back to check on us or to fill the water cups, knowing that they were supposedly worried about us being able to handle the spicy foods. I'm pretty sure this place has changed names a few times. What hasn't changed is the quality offered by each individual owner. My niece got my wife and I some of the Noodle soup a few weeks ago. It was so tasty we decided to go back. I was heavily craving noodles so likely any noodle dish would have made me happy. I ended up with the drunken noodles and chicken and my wife got the Rama Noodle with chicken, one star. My wife was still talking today about how much she enjoyed the flavor. She finds the two star here to be the right amount of heat. I'm not a fan of heat but flavor so I normally Go as low as I can. The flavor with hers was good, it had that unique Thai quality, I probably could have handled the one star with hers. Mine was very good though. I like the mushrooms in that dish quite a lot and find the flavor full and in every single bite. Here was My standout, and I'm not sure how it happens, but my dish was as temp hot on my last bite as on my First and I mean this in the absolute best way, my wife says hers was the same. There's not a lot Of noise in here, so I can see Esan Zap as being suitable for a date night ( what we were there for) as a casual meal. An adjoining larger room can accommodate larger groups . Most tables are set up for 2-4 This wasn't our first time having Esan Zap, so it won't be our last either. A really cool local place. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this Thai restaurant. The food was fresh and well seasoned. The spice jump was a little much. I ordered a one star Phad Thai and a two star Thom kha. The two star would be too spicy for kids, but is a good spice for adults. It is expensive, but every place in the area is. The rice was a little overdone and 4$ for one small bowl. I didn't see any lunch specials, seems to be the same price as the dinner menu. Thai tea was too much milk, and not enough jasmine tea. Highlight was the main dishes, there were no leftovers, my husband ate all the Thom kha (which he usually won't touch) and it was the best phad Thai I've had in the area.. We have been here three times now and it is just really good. The satay was perfectly grilled lovely peanut sauce and nice fresh pickle with red pepper and cucumber as a side. The good things are: Seemed very clean and was nicely decorated. Now for the not so good I got the equivalent of yaki soba. It had so much Ginger in it that it burned my eyes and it was hot on my throat. I asked for a one star because she said they're dishes we're very hot. She was very nice and asked Me How It was and I told her. She asked me if I would like some rice to kind of offset it so I said yes please. She charged us for the rice she brought out. Pineapple fried rice: not bad but it didn't have that nice wok flavor . Bombay curry: this is a special dish of the week. Very flavorful and the avocado in here worked . Walking into this charming, calming restaurant randomly was exactly what we needed. The welcoming music, softly lit atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant, and attentive. Visiting from San Diego, and looking for some spicy reminders of home, this Pad Thai + chicken hit the spot. 2 star spice for me, since I'm feeling mild (I normally order maybe 2 stars higher) was just right. There is a generous amount of chicken in this dish and all the flavors I know well are present. My sister ordered the drunken noodles, and finished the whole plate so I know that was right on too. We both ordered the Thai tea, they arrived iced in a cute pineapple looking glass with a straw, and that was our dessert. This place is a hidden gem, and well worth a stop in. read more

Came here with the fam because we're trying out all the thai restaurants in the Olympia area and so far we don't have a favorite. The restaurant is painted in creamsicle orange and it's really friendly. They seated us in the back for our seven person party. I really liked that they they have a spiciness rating guide on the walls, probably because they've had a lot of complaints from their non-Asian clientele about the heat index. I got the pad see ew and it was okay. Also tried the crab rangoon and again, it was okay. This is a solid place to go and it's cheaper than Pattaya Thai, but still not great. I come into this restaurant when I'm wanting to nurse myself back to health. I had a cold about a week ago and my sinuses couldn't clear no matter what. I ordered the veggie rolls (which have meat btw in case you're trying to avoid it), Bangkok noodles with chicken at 4 stars, and the honey covered deep fried bananas. The veggie spring rolls were tasty but the Bangkok noodles at the highest spice level will knock your socks off! It's delicious and cleared my sinuses immediately. The star of this place is the deserts. I've had a majority of them over the years but my favorite is the deep fried bananas. Wrapped in an egg roll shell, these delectable honey drizzled bananas are absolutely divine. I'd come on just for two orders of the bananas and some hot tea. The decor hasn't changed much but it is still very delightful. A small bar greets you at the from and the right side has several sit down tables. It can get a little loud because there's no partitions but nothing annoying. The wait staff is quick and efficient and anticipates your needs faster then you do. If you're looking for a nice date night, a solo dinner, or just some takeout, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Just make sure to get any of the desserts. You won't be disappointed. read more

I give this place a 1 star review, because I came in here and it was great so far. Then in ordered egg rolls and they were pretty good, but the first bite was kinda off. I kept eating and the next day I was throwing up and very dizzy having my temperature be 102.9. I thought it was maybe just a virus but the next day i a started having diarrhea with no cold symptoms and feeling the same I searched signs of food poisoning and it matched all my symptoms. For the past year, I've been coming here almost monthly to satisfy my craving for Thai food. My typical order is Pad Thai with shrimp and beef but so far everything on the menu has been a hit! On top of that, the staff are very friendly and constantly checkin on your table. As for the interior, it is very lively and has an open layout. Valentine's Day and no reservations. We checked Thurston County's Health Dept restaurant ratings and chose to dine here based on the great rating (yes - it matters)! We were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy and only 1 server on duty. But she remained positive and friendly. It took a little while for her to take our order, but the food was served quickly. DELICIOUS food!! We ordered the Roti Massamam and Chicken Pad Thai at a spice level of 1 1/2 since other reviewers noted that their spice level is more intense than others. The food was amazing. Even though we did a low spice level, there was still a noticeable but enjoyable heat to the dish. We also had a Thai Iced Tea which was loaded with wonderful flavors.
