I can't wait to return and try some of the other dishes I've never seen on another Thai menu in this area. Was going to order him a 3 but the server said it would be too spicy so he got a 2... It was not spicy enough for him so he'll probably get a 3 next time. It's always clean, the table settings are distinguished, the staff is quick to acknowledge you, and the food comes relatively fast. Beware, the spicey is, well, spicey! I only go two out of five when I order the Pad Thai, otherwise my tongue pays for it for several hours thereafter. They serve alcohol, if that's your thing, and they have bathrooms. My cousin and I were both craving Pad Thai, and the pictures of their Pad Thai on Yelp looked better than other places around the area. But when we looked through their menu, we decided to order some of our favorites that is not at all Thai restaurants: I ordered Tom Yum Fried Rice and my cousin ordered Boat Noodle. The spice level goes up to 4 stars, and we requested to go spicier than that, to do it Thai spicy. It seemed to take bit long for our food to come out. When the waiter finally brought it out, he did apologize for the wait, and asked if it's our first time there, because the kitchen was worried about us ordering the food so spicy. And it was actually spicy, just how I like it. Both dishes were tasty, great flavors. The Boat Noodle was hot, so made it more spicy for my cousin. She drank all her water, but the waiter never came back to check on us or to fill the water cups, knowing that they were supposedly worried about us being able to handle the spicy foods. I was pleasantly surprised by this Thai restaurant. The food was fresh and well seasoned. The spice jump was a little much. I ordered a one star Phad Thai and a two star Thom kha. The two star would be too spicy for kids, but is a good spice for adults. It is expensive, but every place in the area is. The rice was a little overdone and 4$ for one small bowl. I didn't see any lunch specials, seems to be the same price as the dinner menu. Thai tea was too much milk, and not enough jasmine tea. Highlight was the main dishes, there were no leftovers, my husband ate all the Thom kha (which he usually won't touch) and it was the best phad Thai I've had in the area.. I'm pretty sure this place has changed names a few times. What hasn't changed is the quality offered by each individual owner. My niece got my wife and I some of the Noodle soup a few weeks ago. It was so tasty we decided to go back. I was heavily craving noodles so likely any noodle dish would have made me happy. I ended up with the drunken noodles and chicken and my wife got the Rama Noodle with chicken, one star. My wife was still talking today about how much she enjoyed the flavor. She finds the two star here to be the right amount of heat. I'm not a fan of heat but flavor so I normally Go as low as I can. The flavor with hers was good, it had that unique Thai quality, I probably could have handled the one star with hers. Mine was very good though. I like the mushrooms in that dish quite a lot and find the flavor full and in every single bite. Here was My standout, and I'm not sure how it happens, but my dish was as temp hot on my last bite as on my First and I mean this in the absolute best way, my wife says hers was the same. There's not a lot Of noise in here, so I can see Esan Zap as being suitable for a date night ( what we were there for) as a casual meal. An adjoining larger room can accommodate larger groups . We have been here three times now and it is just really good. The satay was perfectly grilled lovely peanut sauce and nice fresh pickle with red pepper and cucumber as a side. Really look at the chart that is next to each table for spicy, don't assume that 2 is just twice the amount of 1. I didn't get a lot of pictures but will add more next time we check in. read more

Decided to go out for a "me date" and drove around Lacey. My best friend told me to go eat Thai food so, yelp led me here to Esan Zap. Located in a stripmall on a corner, you'll see sign for it by the road and a few entering in the parking lot. Walking in the establishment is clean and decorated with Asian fixtures, furniture, and plenty of seating. I was greeted by one waitress/hostess who sat me down quickly. I got water immediately after and the menu was on the table for me. I looked through the book and chose one appetizer and one entre. Fresh spring rolls : presented with 2 rolls cut in half , served with peanut sauce How Mok Talay : steamed seafood with a red curry paste and coconut cream. Served with white rice Everything just hit the spot. I've never had spring rolls with Picasa. That was a different crunch than I expected and delicious. Valentine's Day and no reservations. We checked Thurston County's Health Dept restaurant ratings and chose to dine here based on the great rating (yes - it matters)! We were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy and only 1 server on duty. But she remained positive and friendly. It took a little while for her to take our order, but the food was served quickly. DELICIOUS food!! I give this place a 1 star review, because I came in here and it was great so far. Then in ordered egg rolls and they were pretty good, but the first bite was kinda off. I kept eating and the next day I was throwing up and very dizzy having my temperature be 102.9. I thought it was maybe just a virus but the next day i a started having diarrhea with no cold symptoms and feeling the same I searched signs of food poisoning and it matched all my symptoms. Walking into this charming, calming restaurant randomly was exactly what we needed. The welcoming music, softly lit atmosphere and the staff are very pleasant, and attentive. Visiting from San Diego, and looking for some spicy reminders of home, this Pad Thai + chicken hit the spot. 2 star spice for me, since I'm feeling mild (I normally order maybe 2 stars higher) was just right. There is a generous amount of chicken in this dish and all the flavors I know well are present. My sister ordered the drunken noodles, and finished the whole plate so I know that was right on too. Came here with the fam because we're trying out all the thai restaurants in the Olympia area and so far we don't have a favorite. The restaurant is painted in creamsicle orange and it's really friendly. They seated us in the back for our seven person party. I really liked that they they have a spiciness rating guide on the walls, probably because they've had a lot of complaints from their non-Asian clientele about the heat index. I got the pad see ew and it was okay. Also tried the crab rangoon and again, it was okay. This is a solid place to go and it's cheaper than Pattaya Thai, but still not great. The veggie spring rolls were tasty but the Bangkok noodles at the highest spice level will knock your socks off! It's delicious and cleared my sinuses immediately. The star of this place is the deserts. I've had a majority of them over the years but my favorite is the deep fried bananas. Wrapped in an egg roll shell, these delectable honey drizzled bananas are absolutely divine. I'd come on just for two orders of the bananas and some hot tea. The decor hasn't changed much but it is still very delightful. A small bar greets you at the from and the right side has several sit down tables. It can get a little loud because there's no partitions but nothing annoying. The wait staff is quick and efficient and anticipates your needs faster then you do. If you're looking for a nice date night, a solo dinner, or just some takeout, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Just make sure to get any of the desserts. You won't be disappointed. read more

Not as good as our favorite Vegas spot. I had drunken noodles, and mine was better than my Vegas spot. College daughter had Pad Thai and she enjoyed it, and happy for a spot near her school. This spots spicy is very different than others- and they have signs and menu warnings. Pay attention or you might get some spicer food than you bargained for. I don't know what is going with your business, but I paid the same price, I have always paid, but received half the portion of food. That is like a "rip off". No one told me of the changes, if there are changes. If this is the way you treat customers, I will not return. You have to treat your loyal customers with the same portion I paid for in the beginning, otherwise, you will lose them. Most thai places I've tried have been light on the spice. This place uses a true spice scale. And plus the flavors are amazing. I love their Thai coffee. Be careful tho, it will keep you up! I love the catfish dish here. Its perfectly sweet and spicy. If you like catfish, I would recommend it. It does take some time to prepare tho so not the best thing to order if you're in a rush. I had never heard of this place until today! I was excited to learn of a new Thai place in the area and check it out! The ambiance was great, felt very authentic Thai. My ex sister in law is Thai and they had tapestries and such on the walls that are very similar to ones she has given my mom. Worst thing about the layout and all is access to the women's room is down a hall that's half blocked my a drink cooler. It was very uncomfortable to squeeze past it to get to the bathroom. We ordered the Thai iced tea to start which was nice and sweet with a little tang. I enjoyed it. We started off our dinner with the papaya salad. It was crunchy and tangy, very flavorful but a few things bugged me about the dish- there were tiny crabs that I couldn't tell if you were supposed to eat or look at. They were gray still and appeared uncooked? Not really sure what the point of them was. There was also a huge hunk of cabbage in the dish. I don't know if you were meant to eat it or if it was just for looks. Either way- it was always sitting there and awkward to pull off leaves to eat. I found the salad tasty but over dressed and sitting in quite a bit of the liquid. For main dishes we ordered the crispy catfish and the Ruby curry- both at 2 stars. The catfish did take a bit longer to cook, but they did warn us ahead of time so that was fine. The curry was delish and my favorite part of the meal. The catfish was okay. I haven't had it before so I wasn't really sure whatto expect. It was definitely crispy. Most the flavor was in the sauce which there wasn't much of and there were still bones on it. I wanted to venture out from my normal pad Thai, and I'm glad I did... but I still miss my noodles. I'm not sure how fresh the fish was, it seemed a little fishy smelling to me.
