I personally believe myself to be a pad Thai expert :) having eaten probably thousands of pad Thais over the years, always in search of great Thai food and their pad Thai was great! The staff was nice and the restaurant looked clean and tidy, but the food was not good. For an appetizer we ordered the crab rangoon- average and fine. We had the salad rolls- the pork inside was salty and we thought maybe peanut sauce would come with the salad rolls... nope. It was a clear liquid that we couldn't figure out. Well I looked it up and it's a fish sauce. Not good at all. We ordered the Saigon garlic noodles for our entree. I was expecting some awesome, bold, garlicky Thai flavors, but what we got was seriously spaghetti noodles with parmesan cheese on top.....WHAT Why are we eating Italian food here? This has no scallions, no umami flavor, no sauce. there were dry pieces of chicken on the side that was pretty salty. Another odd thing is that we could smell a really weird scent in the restaurant, kind of like dirty feet!? Maybe dried, dirty mop water on the floor!? Strange because the restaurant is so clean. Pad se ew had pver cooked meat and next to no noodles. 3 pieces of broccoli and 6 slices of carrot. Ordered a goi cuon (tofu spring roll) and cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee) to go. On an early Friday evening, I was the only one and got to enjoy the beautiful untouched interior. Great design. Also loved the Vietnam photos on the wall. I asked for my coffee less sweet and the guy made it fresh and just perfect. One of the best I've had in a long time and one of the best I've had in the Puget Sound area. The spring roll was large and tasty but mostly bun (noodles) and one lettuce. It was missing the herbs that are central to a real authentic Vietnamese spring roll but the delicious peanut sauce more than made up for it. Fast service and fresh tasty food. I'd come back to try more food without hesitation next time I'm in the area. read more

Food was incredible!! The broth in the pho is rich and flavorful. No cutting it short on protein too. Beef brisket was tender, tendon was perfectly cooked not crunchy when under done. Everything about the pho was really good. My wife got a strawberry sweetheart jasmine tea, she loves it. I got a blueberry yogurt drinks and I couldn't be happier. The ambience is very relaxing, soft music playing, everything is new inside and they have good air-conditioning. Got a togo order thru doordash. The panko breaded "tempura" shrimp were good. The Saigon noodles with shrimp were not very good. Shrimp in the shell were severely overcooked and unedible, the noodles had good flavor but were very dry. read more

It's been a while since I've visited the fine folks at Saigon Rendezvous, so it was time for another trip and a big bowl of tasty goodness. Fresh spring rolls & some deep fried prawns were first, followed by a hot steaming bowl of Tom Kha Gai, which was insanely good. Then came a very full belly and lots of smiles. Oh yes, there was Thai coffee too, because I was in the mood for a sweet treat. It was a rainy, blustery day, so the restaurant wasn't busy and parking was easy. First, the staff were very nice and helpful. But the food was mediocre. I love pad see ew, but the noodles were very overcooked and there were hardly any noodles and it is a noodle dish. The honey garlic chicken was good, but I think portion size was light. The pad Thai was okay. The other issue I had was the smell of the restaurant. It smelled like old laundry left in the washer. I found myself in Olympia with a grumbly tummy. I happened upon Saigon Rendezvous by chance, with a parking spot right in front, so I took that as a sign to satiate my hungry stomach and try a new Thai place. I'm so glad I did. The outside certainly presented itself with a "dive-y" feeling, but I kind of like dives. I find they may not look pretty, but they usually have great food. Upon entry, the place was clean, roomy and plenty of available seating. The bathroom was clean and I always think that is a good sign! The seats, however, were definitely NOT curvy, hippy, big butt girl friendly! In fact, they were down right uncomfortable. So, be forewarned!! IF you have curves, the seats are not friendly. I ended up sitting very forward in the metal chair, because my hips just could not tolerate the pain. Besides that one negative, the rest of the review is positive. Because, the food was delish! I settled on my usual shrimp fresh rolls with peanut sauce and a bowl of chicken pho. The rolls were stuffed with yummy, crispy lettuce, carrots, sprouts, shrimp, cilantro, accompanied by a delicious peanut dipping sauce. Both were really tasty. The pho broth was sublime. So flavorful. The chicken in the soup was plentiful and the bean sprouts, lime and Thai basil were absolutely fresh. This meal made my grumbly tummy happy. The portions were substantial and enough for me to take half home to enjoy for my dinner! Yes! This is definitely a "dive" I plan on coming back to when I find myself in Olympia. The pho was fantastic! The portion is very generous and i went with a Saigon Pho combo that had tripe, meatballs, and brisket for about $15. I came in with a group of 3 and a toddler and we all went in with a craving for a warm bowl of pho. We almost lost focus at the mention of pad see ew and pad thai but the pho bowls are big, they come with a lot of meat, and it will definitely fill you up. I even had what seemed like a regular serving of pho leftover to take home and I really felt I had eaten a lot. We ordered the shrimp spring rolls as well and they came out at the same time as the pho. I may have just been more excited for the pho but I didn't love these. They tasted like just cabbage and shrimp but I did love the peanut dipping sauce. read more

We were driving through and decided we wanted some pad Thai on a Sunday night, which is not always easy to find. This place had good reviews and was on the way. They were out of Bahn mi sadly, but it was getting to be about 8pm. So we each got chicken pad Thai and crab wonton. The crab wonton were the best I've ever had!! And it's my favorite appetizer so I've had a lot! Had so much flavor and they were packed full and cooked just right! I however wasn't a big fan of the pad Thai, the chicken was a bit under done and it had a odd flavor, maybe too much oyster sauce or something, and I've never had it come with lettuce on it before. My husband liked it ok enough. He took my leftovers for lunch. Other people had the pho and it smelled amazing so we will be back to try that. read more

Downside of this eatery is its location in the heart of downtown Olympia, complete with the unsavory characters (pick your unsavory of choice - unkempt & unwashed, stoned, talking to invisible people, grocery cart homeless, raving mad, indigent, leftover hippies of any & all ages, outsiders & outcasts & dropouts, panhandlers of varying levels of aggression & audacity, the whole spectrum is on display) who've pretty much taken over the area.
