We drive by Paco's Tacos all the time. Every time we pass, we talk about needing to go. But usually, we'd already eaten. Well, we finally made it in, and I'm so glad we did. Paco's has a great history, it started as a family-run spot and has really kept that authentic, local feel over the years. It's exactly the kind of place Austin is known for. The vibe inside is great. The decor is rustic, shabby-chic, colorful and cozy with a real homey feel that makes you want to sit and stay a while. There is plenty of space, too. Whether you want to eat inside, sit out on the main patio, or hang out at their outdoor bar called Paco's Outpost Cantina, you won't have trouble finding a seat. We really liked the atmosphere at the Outpost Cantina; it's a perfect spot to relax. The food is classic, delicious home-style Tex-Mex. We absolutely loved our meals. We ordered the "Rise and Shine" torta, and it was fantastic--especially because it's served on fresh, homemade bread. We also had the Picadillo tacos, which were packed with amazing flavors, and you can't go wrong with their chips and queso. To wash it all down, we shared a prickly pear margarita. It was honestly one of the best margaritas I've had in a long time, so refreshing and flavorful. The service was great, too. Everyone was friendly and made us feel right at home. Oh, and I can't forget about our fur guy, Sir Benjamin who gives Paco's two paws up! He loved the way the Picadillo ground beef was seasoned. We will definitely be back. read more

The food was great. I would say the price per taco was slightly high, but they were great and tasted amazing, hot, fresh, etc. They also had so much salsa available so that was nice. This place has been on my list for awhile so finally had a chance to come here today. Really cute old school proper Texan saloon vibes with lots of outside seating and a nice parking lot behind. We ordered the chorizo egg and cheese which was delicious. We then got the pacos pick which I liked and the bandito which was my least favorite (but still good) as it had too much of the refried beans. They have a mini fridge full of different salsas which I loved! I'll definitely be back to try something else next time since they have a huge menu. read more

Really good spot for a quick breakfast snack. The tacos are pretty big along with the gorditas. The gordita especially has a really good corn like bread and crisped up enough to get a bit of crunch to it. One gordita is enough food to start your day. We arrived at Paco's tacos at 10 AM and promptly ordered a margarita. The margarita was brought to us while we were looking at the menu. I had 3 tacos-a shrimp, scallop, and beef fajita taco. My husband had 3 as well- the shrimp, brisket and Picadillo (seasoned ground beef. -- sorry I don't remember the proper names for these, but they were all very good and fresh. The owner came up and showed us the refrigerator that had a shelf full of spicy salsa and then a shelf below it with mild. This worked out perfect for us. I absolutely love the poblano mild sauce.. halfway through the mail. My husband ordered another margarita. It was very tasty.. I highly recommend Paco's Tacos!! read more

Haven't been to Paco's in years and glad to see it is still just as good as I remember. I came in for some breakfast to go around 10 am and no wait time. They have a large menu selection which can be slightly overwhelming if you've never been, but the workers are super helpful and kind. I got one migas and one bacon egg and cheese. Both tasted perfectly authentically tex mex. Not greasy which is a plus. They were a good size too, very filled up. Still warm by the time I got home 20 minutes later too. The best way to describe this restaurant: country Mexican. The outdoor part of it is very country, and there was a live guitarist. I thought the vibes were immaculate. They have $4 mimosas on the weekends, so my friend really enjoyed the special grapefruit one he got. They even have two large private parking lots! I was overwhelmed looking at the menu selection. I ended up settling for the egg and potato breakfast taco, the gringo taco, and the carnitas taco. This was a whopping $17, which I think is the most I've paid for tacos in Austin. These tacos are really big though, so I should've just ordered two. The breakfast taco and carnitas tacos were good. The gringo taco tasted soooooo strange. I really like shrimp tacos, but something about this flavour was so unpleasant. I will also say that the water tasted so so bad. I'm not someone who is picky about the taste of water, but their water tasted worse than regular tap water. It was so off that I couldn't drink it. Checked out Paco's on the advice of my realtor and was not disappointed. I just had a couple breakfast tacos and they were ready super quickly. Not having to wait was a huge plus. The white cheddar was cheese better quality than you'll find in a lot of breakfast tacos. I'll probably try to build a better taco next time because they were good not great. I just got egg, cheese and avocado though. Again, efficiency got them the 4th star, because waiting isn't as fun as eating! Paco's is a fun looking spot with lots of character. Divey in a good way. Continues to remain one of my favorite Tex mex sports on the northeast side of ATX. I like to order the big man breakfast but it is seriously messy, so be careful. I have a mixed review if this place. I've been a few times and it's three star some, but this time was better, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Previously I've done my standard chorizo and egg on flour and was underwhelmed. Changed it up this time with black bean and potato, which was excellent. And sausage and egg, which was pretty good. Flour tortillas were warned up a little. Above average. I've only tried a couple salsas from the salsa bar, but they've got good flavor. I want to like this place more, because the vibe is great. They been around a long time, location is convenient and the service is great but the tacos are mediocre.

I've been here a few times over the years and this last time seemed to be a little different. The prices surprised me a little bit as they seem to have increased since I last remember. I got La Vieira and Paco's Chuleta and felt they weren't particularly flavorful. I'm totally sympathetic of rising costs but just wasn't impressed for this price point. I also ordered a $3.50 horchata and was given a regular sized plastic cup to serve myself from a bucket with a ladle. Definitely not the service I was expecting. I'm giving one more star because I have better memories from previous visits and Paco's does have a cool, rustic vibe. But I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again with many other taco options. read more

I live on the same street as this place and I always drive past it on the way to the HEB that is also on this street. I never thought to try it out until just now. It's easy to miss, but once you turn into the parking lot it's hard not to love. The environment is awesome! I loved the outdoor seating area with a shaded patio. I got a breakfast taco and a breakfast tostada and I was blown away at the value. The food tasted great and it was not expensive at all. The salsa bar is nice, but I would've personally liked if the salsas were spicier and had more flavor. Always drive by Pacos and finally decided to stop in. I wish I would've gone sooner!! We had the breakfast tostadas, a miga's breakfast taco, a chorizo taco and a bacon egg and cheese breakfast taco. The food was SO GOOD and they serve their tacos on a mixed tortilla (corn + flour or you can sub) which was delicious. They had a wide variety of salsas to choose from. The margaritas were also great. We got a jalapeño margarita and a prickly pear margarita. Drinks and food were 10/10. It was super cute and would be a great place to sit on the patio. Quirky and weird atmosphere, and if this is an old place, then I can see why it may be an easy Austin institution. But what was once cool to present a twist on tacos are now commonplace, and unfortunately Paco's does not do them notably well. The El Gringo taco is their take on the shrimp taco. It was recommended over their scallop taco, which has the same toppings - mango pico de gallo, avocado. The avocado was fine. Mango was a bit green, meaning not bursting with flavor - but it was fine accompanying the baby shrimps which pale in comparison with their larger cousins. The tortillas were not much to talk about either. So this one taco is just "meh," but not necessarily bad. The chicken quesadilla produced the same sentiments - since it was heavy on the cheese and not so much on the chicken, and a notable absence of any filling along a good portion of the outer rim. I've had better quesadillas that are also heavy with cheese and for cheaper at Mexican hole-in-wall greasy joints. And considering nothing blew me out of the water, I'm not sure if I will be coming back. Service was friendly though. Side note: a few previous reviews mentioned wine-based margaritas being available here. When I inquired today, they mentioned that they do not offer any margarita of any kind. read more

After driving by it several times, we decided to finally take a chance on Paco's Tacos. I was encouraged by the decor and the full parking lot and knew I was in an Austin classic restaurant. The menu was quite large so it was a little hard to decide what to get! But the cashiers/staff helped steer me in the right direction, they were very friendly and helpful. So I ended up getting a fajita chicken bowl with rice, beans veggies and avocado. However, the avocado was not on there. I told the waitress and she said, absolutely no worries i'll run back and grab you some avocado. Fantastic customer service and really tasty food. I had to pick up my granddaughter and was thinking about taking her to Paco's Tacos as I have not been in so long. Without telling my granddaughter what I was thinking, she asked me to take her to Paco's Tacos! It was meant to be. Greeting at the counter was warm and hospitable. They even gave my granddaughter pennies for the gum ball machine. My granddaughter wanted bean and cheese taco and I got the Paco's Bandito - Seasoned fajita beef, beans, peppers, and monterrey jack cheese. Whatever cut of meat that was, it wasn't skirt steak. It was melt in your mouth delicious. Patio was enjoyable on this sunny, but Spring-like day. I need to start coming here more often. I think I'll suggest it for our next work lunch. This is not the Paco Taco I remember coming to 4 years ago. The menu is changed completely, they stopped serving burritos... and most of the authentic Mexican foods. The taco menu is pretty huge and as this was my last stop before going to the airport, I had to great breakfast and lunch. Had the chilaquiles with beans and a breakfast taco - egg and chorizo. The salsa used for the chilaquiles was good and had just enough of a kick with the chips still having a little crunch too. The beans were solid and not greasy, I think they are made without lard. The tortilla on the breakfast taco felt fresh as it was soft and warm while still having some pull to it. Egg and chorizo were tasty, make sure you put some salsa on there too. Overall I enjoyed my visit. The staff was very friendly and the wait was not long at noon on a Sunday. read more

So for being my first review I must say Paco's Tacos is my favorite neighborhood spot. Since I've moved to the neighborhood this place is a close walk from my apartment so for the convenience factor it rocks. Secondly the atmosphere of the patio is very comfortable. We were passing by this restaurant and my husband mentioned he heard this place is really good for tacos, that made me hungry (lol) so we decided to stop by for some tacos and beer and I'm SO glad we did! They have nice seating area outside (they also have tables inside, but it's quite too cozy) that you can enjoy live music and the beautiful weather. You go to the counter to place an order and pay, they bring you food to your table. All staff we talked to was all SO friendly and super helpful! Y'ALL???? Good lord have mercy. These breakfast tacos?? SUPERIOR. I got a sausage egg and cheese, and a ham egg and cheese. There's something oh so special about their corn/flour blend tortillas that'll make ya sing. A nicely filled taco! Not overfilled (aka not trying to overcompensate the lack of flavor with quantity), just the right amount of delicious filling‍. The salsa?? Frrrrrrriken delicious. The fact that it's actually palatable, not overly spicy, tons of flavor!!! Both the red AND green are tremendous. No lie. The ambiance?? Well if it wasn't 6° wind chill, I'd 100% be hanging out in their patio area!! Love the eclectic feel of this place. You have to pay attention when you drive by or you'll miss it! Paco's Tacos is a hidden gem on 51st street. I don't always go there cause I usually don't drive in that area, but today it literally saved me. I am diabetic and needed something fast and they gave me my tacos within minutes. The are always nice and I love being able to choose my own salsa, they have many to choose from in their mini fridge.
