Knew nothing about this local pub before stopping in for dinner and a few drinks. Homemade seafood and corn chowder (waitress recommendations) and fried haddock sandwich were amazing! Good selection of local draft beers. Fast and friendly service. Decent sized crowd, some for dinner, some for drinks and some for both. We'll be back! read more

Amazing dinner at Packy's tonight!!! It was relaxing, comforting and perfect as usual. This is not your typical bar food! This is lovely pub fare! We started with BBQ Pork Nachos which were smothered in a tangy sauce and cheese. The pork was perfectly cooked and it all meshed together fabulously. Next week got the Chicken Devonshire Salad. There were large, tender, moist pieces of chicken which tastes like they were carved off a roasted chicken. The veggies were al dente and paired so well with the balsamic dressing. Would totally get again. The chicken tenders and sweet potato fries were a great way to finish off. Needless to say we brought home enough for another meal. Won't be ordering fish fry there again. spent $100 on 4 meals and a chicken finger meal for the kids. Husband picked it up, less than 3 miles away. Not one of us could eat the coleslaw, smelled like vinegar, was warm and just disgusting. The fries looked like they had potential but were buried under the fish and they were dry, over cooked and soggy all at the same time. The ones that came with the obviously overcooked chicken fingers were just as bad. Not one of us could manage to eat the hockey puck rolls. The fish was decent but we ended up throwing away more food than we ate. Not sure if it was just an off night, we haven't eaten there since it changed ownership but I'm pretty sure it's our last time ordering from there. read more

Best panned fried fish around. It comes with delicious roasted veggies and rice pilaf. They care about their customers!!! This fish dish is usually only available on Fridays but my friend and I were there today and they made us the fish dinner anyway. It was hot and delicious. Great service from all the employees. This is what I call your typical old mans bar but it has a lot of charm! Cheap drinks, GOOD food, great friendly service, and karaoke on Thursday nights! They have a lot of tables that accommodate small and large parties. Large full bar as well. They have everything from appetizers, fried food, to full seafood dinners. Well, Packy's is exactly what it looks like from the outside - a small townie bar that also serves up some grub. The interior does nothing to dispel your initial feeling - wood paneling greets you while a long wraparound bar is occupied by what I would guess are regulars. I had a couple bottles of beer, and decided to order up some food. The menu is surprisingly vast, and they also offer up blue plate specials as well as a couple dinner and soup specials. I tried the bruschetta as an appetizer which claimed to be drizzled in peppercorn dressing. What I got was a mess. The peppercorn dressing was a creamy variety and was dumped on the unsuspecting bread and tomatoes, rendering it soggy and not edible. After the aforementioned mess, I chickened out and ordered the tenders. They came with a handful of fries and for some reason were served with marinara sauce. Once the bartender realized this he brought out BBQ, but it was still on odd oversight. The tenders were good as expected but nothing spectacular. If you are looking for a pint and maybe a bite, I'd recommend spending a few more bucks and going next door to Piggy Pat's...Packy's just isn't great. read more

Great Irish pub with classic old Irish charm. Decided to go for a late lunch on a Friday for seafood specials and was not disappointed. Salad of the day was mouthwateringly delicious and the seafood was cooked to perfection. I'm never disappointed when I go to packys pub, and always leave satisfied. As a patron for over twenty years I can assure you that taking a risk on the specials board is never a bad idea. There are daily specials throughout the week, but Mondays these is a wing night that shouldn't be missed. My husband and I went to Packy's. When we got there we had to wait a little bit for a table. Then when we were seated we had to wait about 10-15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. We both wanted the special of the night which was written at the top of the specials board when we walked in. The waitress said they were sold out. So we said ok, we'll both get the fish fry then. After we got our food, our waitress never came to check on us again or ask how we were doing. She literally went around to every table to ask how everyone was doing but skipped over ours. It was like she was avoiding us or something. We thought the fish was good but when we got home a few hours later, both my stomach and my husbands stomach felt off. We were both up all night with an upset stomach and even the next day my stomach still felt off. Never again will we go there! read more

Went there while killing time on a visit to my folks ( and needing alcohol). Ordered a white Russian (do I need to capitalize?) and ML ordered an IPA and shot of whiskey. We read the menu and saw that they had .35 cent wings special, (my son LOVES buffalo, chicken, any animal actually, WINGS) so when our drinks arrived ML asked if we could get them TO GO, our bartender ( nicknamed BB for blondie biage) said it was "frowned upon". I shot ML a look clearly stating that I was going to take over, and told BB that we would like a dozen wings please. When she walked away I told Ml that if we didn't eat ALL the wings, surely they wouldn't deny us a to-go box??? lol. We began to drink. My drink tasted like coffee creamer and, water. BB returned with our wings and when I asked if there was vodka and Kahlua in my drink, she simply stated "Yes". The 2 wings we ate wings were excellent and I ecstatically asked for a to-go box for the rest ( see, I know BIAGE better than the rest of them). Don't know why, but we ordered a homemade pie from BB too. ML asked her opinion on the best pie, BB said "well, it depends what you like" I asked BB what the most ordered pie was, BB said " She makes 75 pies" WTF? Anywho, ML, being the different and unique guy he is ( Remember, he is dating ME) checked a box for a very different, not duplicated by any cousins or relatives and family likely to show up with, cranberry apple pie. They asked us if we wanted to pick it up before noon or after noon, Uhhhhhh, THINK dang it THINK, BEFORE noon we wrote.WE brought the wings home and my son LOVED them. The next day we our schedule was shot so we had to call to tell them it would be AFTER noon. The pie Looked FANTASTIC, BEAUTIFUL, and not a slice was eaten after our Thanksgiving feast. My wife and I have been regulars at Packy's for years - they are consistent if nothing else, and the fish fry on Friday's has made up most of our visits over that time. We usually don't wander far from the fish, in all its variations, and they have made it a mission to offer fish every which way to Sunday (Italian style, Irish style, Greek style, etc) but we usually default to the standard fried or broiled haddock and they will gladly sub mashed or greens or whatever for fries. The wait staff is 99% on point and the wait for a table is only peak time. We've rarely been dissatisfied, and if we were they promptly took care of the issue. If you're looking for a foodie gastropub, Packy's is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a warm, welcoming atmosphere thats full of warm, welcoming people then Packy's is your spot. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about this pub or the food, so don't come expecting that! The menu is extensive and most things on it are absolutely delicious: I recommend the fish fry (and any of their other haddock dishes), and any of the sandwiches, burgers and salads and desserts. if you are looking for Utica Italian, its on the menu, but keep a realistic attitude when ordering that type of faire from a down-home Irish pub. My husband and I go to Packy's frequently, and I have been eating there since I was a kid. I am never disappointed with the service or food, and its a great place for families. Packy's is the kind of place where you just instantly feel welcome, it does have a bit of a "Cheers" feel. Again, if you're looking for foodie atmosphere from your pub, clientele or menu, try the Dev or Nail Creek in Utica, you will be disappointed if you eat here. If you just want to feel good, relax, and have a beer and a fantastic sandwich, look no further. read more

The menu is really small and nothing's a great deal price wise. The one benefit I'd say is they have a back deck which is nice to sit outside in the shade on a summer day. Even then, your view is of their parking lot. Inside is kind of dingy. Service isn't great. And I've never tried anything there that was amazing. The wings aren't bad, but hey you're throwing something in a deep frier. It's hard to mess up. read more

Went there recently and was not wowed. The waitress (black hair, pony tail) advised us that they were out of haddock. She didn't offer any other suggestions or recommended alternatives on what else might be good for people who arrived and were seated by 7:30 p.m. on a Friday (during Lent), hoping for a haddock fish fry or broiled haddock. It was essentially, "We're out of haddock. What do you want to order?" Also, one member of our party (male) was offered a refill on his drink before he was finished but another member of our party (female) waited, while the waitress walked past the table several times (with her hands empty), before she could be flagged down and asked to bring another drink to the table. Not sure if this was gender related or just coincidental. Either way, uneven service. And didn't help the ambience of a dining area that has worn utility carpeting, torn plastic tablecloth, and dim lighting. Wasn't looking for a fine dining experience, and can normally tolerate eating at a crowded picnic table with paper plates and plastic cutlery, if the menu delivers and the service is decent. read more
