We haven't been to Knuckleheads in quite awhile. Another place we keep saying we are going to go to but hasn't happened. We recently went to a Wing War/challenge where we sampled wings from Knuckleheads. That was destiny calling telling us we had to go. The other night we got something out for dinner and we weren't feeling it and we used the excuse it wasn't defrosted so what better excuse.... We order a hamburger and pulled pork. The hamburger was cooked to perfection. Was juicy and really good. The pulled pork was OK but to be fair I have had some of the best southern and western BBQ so my bar is pretty high. The wings were amazing !!! crispy and juicy. The medium buffalo sauce was perfect. They do have a wing night on Wednesday nights, so know we will be back next time on a Wednesday for their signature wings at 99 cents each. They have specials almost every night so check them out on facebook or their chalkboard. The night we went was an 80's night which all who know me know I am an 80's girl. For a cozy local restaurant this place checked all the boxes. Clean, great decor, good service. We had a large(r) party and I know that can sometimes lead to delays, but overall for a first visit I'm was relatively impressed with how quickly things came out. Everyone said their food was good, the only negatives is the beef and gravy was a touch cold, and the steak sandwich was a little bland/ tough steak. I stopped while passing by on a very busy Friday night. I was seated immediately and my server came by right after. I chose a beer battered fish sandwich that came with fries and Cole slaw. As I sat in the expanded dining room more and more people came in. (There is also a bar as well as booth seating in the bar area) There was a party of 8-9 already in the dining room as well as several tables of 3-4 people. Another party of 9 was waiting and they worked to get tables arranged to accommodate them. My food came out very quickly and was fresh and hot. The fish was very tasty and flaky, the french fires crisp and the Cole slaw crispy. Condiments are available on the table and include salt, pepper, ketchup, A1 as well as regular and green Tabasco sauces. A man I assumed to be the manager/owner was very active in talking with and taking care of diners and stopped by my table as well to make sure my food was good and I was all set. He took a moment to chat despite the busyness and I observed him helping the waitstaff as well. I had a great meal and a beer for $27 including tip. Nikki gets 5 stars she was great waitress and kept up with our large table of 8 with filled beers and hot wings! Overall this is a need to go spot - especially on Thursday which is their wing night. The selection of beer on tap and whiskey is impressive especially their various flavor of wing sauce. Their signature "everything sauce" has a Buffalo and blue cheese base along with some other secret ingredients. Great place to go if you in the area. In Utica visiting family and we found this incredible tavern with possibly the best 'sports bar food' we've ever eaten. Loved the vibe on entering, elevated sports bar with a funky Adirondack feel. They have a great outdoor seating area to enjoy on the beautiful summer days of Upstate New York. They have a full bar and the kind of mixed drinks you would find in upscale restaurants. But the real story here is the food. We went with a large party and lots of different dishes were ordered. I'll start with mine - the buffalo haddock wrap. I wish I could have shipped 10 of them to Laudy, it was that amazing. The potato salad is house-made, tangy, a little crunchy and delicious. The pizza: We ordered a traditional upside down pizza and one with a cauliflower crust. Both pizzas were the best we'd ever had in all of NY state and we used to live in Brooklyn and worked in Manhattan so we know good pizza. If you don't like cauliflower crust but are trying to avoid carbs, you would NEVER know the crust was cauliflower. Can't emphasize this enough: If you go to Knuckleheads and order one thing, order the pizza! It's outstanding. We're back in Laudy and are craving this pizza. Finally, restaurants all across the country are understaffed and struggling to find reliable workers, front and back of house. I have ordered the BBQ on 3 separate occasions, and I have come to the conclusion that the ribs are Microwaved before serving ( i think they think we can't tell but it's killing your flavor, and the rest of it is just dry or underwhelming, I wouldn't consider it true barbecue, I feel like they meant well at first but it's just lazy bbq not what you would normally get at a real place for the same amount of money. I had to let the waitress know the Coleslaw was way past the date, but I was given a free beer for the trouble very nice of her. It's a great place for beer and fried food though so far that is fine. When I think of Brewhouse, I think of microbrew. Not the case here but a decent local tavern. The seasonal Yule Mule drink was good (they could buy more than 1 copper mug if offering that). The slider trio was good but "southern fried chicken" was a chicken tender on a bun. The brisket was very good. Fries looked fresh cut which was a plus. They seem to make fancy names for not fancy food. Not necessary. It's local, it's casual and I would go back due to convenience. read more

Went to knuckleheads for a Monday dinner after the long day as it was the restaurant on our way home from Rome. Except for the honey Dijon chicken wings, I ordered the rib combo with bourbon glazed chicken. A big plate but they did not ask me what sides I liked. The meat cooked perfectly, both ribs and chicken are juicy and tender. However, flavors are not quite on point. The bourbon glaze was too sweet and alcoholic, overpowering the tender chicken while there was not much other flavor to balance the taste. I scraped the glaze off and dip them into blue cheese sauce to finish it. The rib cooked well but again the flavor was not quite into the meat. The coleslaw was refreshing and light enough to help me eat the dish. It is not with a lot of mayo. That is probably the best element on the plate. Sir flower had a chief sandwich. Not sure about the flavor but it was big and the bread and meat ratio was a bit off balance. Honey Dijon wings are a bit too sweet. Found this place through YELP and were not disappointed. Very clean and welcoming place with a pretty big menu. Our server Carrie was very friendly and spot on with the whole transaction. I had the trio of sliders and companion had the turkey club-we both thought our meals were great. Too early to imbibe but the selection looked great as well! Do yourself a favor and don't stop at the rest areas near here - get off at the Westmoreland exit and travel the less than two miles it takes to get to Knuckleheads. read more

Good bar and grill. We stopped in thinking it was a brewery, which it is not, but we liked it. It's about 50/50 split bar and grill, with the bar side being a bit noisy and that carries throughout. We mainly wanted to try a beer and grab a snack. The beer selection was ok, although seemed a little short on craft (micro) brews. I kind of feel if you are a "brew pub" the beer menu should be more craft (micro) brew-centric. Not sure that's even a real word, but you get the point. Our group shared a couple of apps and they were very good. We tried the jalepeno poppers and pretzels with beer cheese. Both were winners! Service was good, place was clean, overall a good experience but nothing to rave about. The hot wings are actually hot, yes they can take a while to come out of the kitchen but they are always prefect and worth the wait, and all the flavors are worth trying (I have!) So why the 3 stars? That's just what I got at Knuckleheads; they were decent. They do have a giant selection of different types of wings. I just wanted the plain old traditional hot wings and they were pretty good. They could have been a little crispier and the sauce could have been a little thicker. I didn't really like the setup here, either. There isn't really a good place to stand - the bar is big & round but crowded, and the other half of the place is all restaurant-style tables. I heard this place gets packed for lunch and all my friends seemed to love it, but next time I'd rather go somewhere with a little more space. read more
