Foods good. However, bartenders super rude. All of the tables were filled with either people or leftovers so we sat at a table at the bar. There was barely even anyone there maybe five people. Bartender came up to us and told us we had to move since she wasn't serving us. We explained the tables were dirty and she made someone clean it for us and then told us to move right after the tables were cleared, but not even wiped down yet. We also overheard her telling another patron to move down a seat so she has more room for the customers she did not have. Very rude couldn't imagine acting that way towards customers especially as a bartender myself. We ended up just getting our food to go once it came out. This is my go to place when in town. I always get the albacore salad, which is too sweet as is so I ask them to hold the citrus and half the cranberries. If you have a sweet tooth, keep them in there. Service is decent, CNY no nonsense type. It's always clean. Bar in back if you want to have a drink. Old salsa, old shredded chicken and soggy tortilla chips and I asked for no dressing it was dressed with Italian. Stopped for lunch, the menu looked great and I settled on The Omaha (roast beef, horseradish mayo, provolone, red onion, served as a panini). I upgraded for the fresh cut fries - a huge plus! Price was reasonable, fries were incredible. The sandwich was a bit overpowered by the horseradish. I think roast beef needs to be salt and peppered to shine on a sandwich and it would've helped a lot here. Pickled red onion would've improved the sandwich, also. I think it was pretty good but with so many other options on the menu, I would not order that sandwich again. Hope I'm in the area again soon to try another sandwich. read more

This was the second time I came to Bennu, both times was at my wife's urging since she LOVES their ahi tuna salad. First time I wasn't impressed and this time was worse. First off when we walked in and went to the counter there was no one there to greet us or take our order, so we waited probably for a minute or 2. Someone was heading our way and I thought, "Finally, someone to take our order"; but alas - they just said "we'll be with you In a minute". So we waited a little longer and then someone came and took our order. We sat outside and the table was filthy, so we cleaned it ourselves. They don't really keep things clean and bussed like a normal restaurant. This was one of my pet peeves the first time I went there - there's a lack of service. We asked for napkins and silverware and it seemed like a bother. The food is good, but the service isn't great. I also used the restroom and there wasn't any soap! No SOAP...are you kidding me?!?! The topical smoothie was good but a friend ordered the espresso smoothie and was shocked to find there were bananas in the espresso smoothie. This place has definitely gone down hill in the past few years. Their food and service used to be ON POINT but the last time I came everything was mediocre to say the least. We ordered the chicken wing dip for an appetizer (one of my favorite dishes here) the chips were stale and the dip was cold. Blekkkkk. I asked the waitress for her opinion on two salads and her response was "I don't like tuna... so...". Like uh ok, super helpful. I ended up getting the Ahi tuna salad anyway and it was OK, nothing special. My friend got the Reuben sandwich and she enjoyed it. There was only one bartender and one waitress in the entire back dining room... and the entire room + bar was full by the time we were finished with our meal. I was very confused to the operations of this place when I walked in, but the woman at the counter was very nice in explaining that the full service bar/restaurant area was in the back. This is a gem of a place hidden in a strip mall. Very cool bar way in the back, but if you're with the family, you can order your sandwiches, burgers, paninis, quesadillas, salads and soups up front. They have a few outdoor tables as well. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and house made chips. Honestly one of the best Cubanos I've ever had. The chips were excellent too. Crunchy and not stale in the least. My son ordered the mushroom Swiss burger. It was massive and almost more than he could eat. It came with probably 2 pounds of hand cut fries. I had the new "Eggplant", fried piece of eggplant, spinach, thin slices of cucumber and feta cheese. I really loved the bread but I felt it was mostly bread with little filling. The garlic fries were a bit dry but the flavor was really amazing! Maybe perhaps the portion could be smaller and the fries could be cheaper, they're almost the cost of a sandwich (5.50). Here for lunch with coworker. Had take out before, not bad. The vibe of the restaurant is very good, an artistic cafe. It is good for small group or couples for conversations. The food: they have interesting specials today and we ordered different ones. I had the tuna steak sandwich with sweet potato fries. The tuna was fresh but the seasoning was a bit light. I did not taste much so I used the sweet garlic sauce for the fries, which turned out to be very good. Fries were okay, a bit over cooked on the dry side so I dipped with the sauce - I usually don't eat sweet potato fries with sauce. The bun was good, however the edge was burned which I had to tear off. We ordered the soup of the day, and mine was chowder. Not bad. Service: not bad, however with only one girl serving at the time, it was very slow. We waited to order and then we waited for the check - the food was delivered at average time. The lunch took us about 1 and half hours. However, a sandwich and a cup of soup cost almost 20 bucks pre tax is a bit on the high side. read more

I ordered the Black and Blue..a nice sandwich, the tenderloin was prepared well and I did like the garlic toast. I would recommend it. They did bring us out the wrong order, which I found a little troubling. Very good food, very poor service. We have been going to Bennu for years, and the service just keeps getting worse. For the past year and a half we've just been ordering take out from here. Last evening, we went to sit down at the cafe and were reminded of the poor service here! I placed an order for myself and my daughter, one burger, one sandwich. Then, my sister placed an order for herself and her daughter. About ten minutes after we had found a table to sit at, a couple came in and placed their order. They received their order first(?), then my sister, THEN our order. The wait staff who came out was very unfriendly, and tried to hand my 8yo niece an extremely hot plate. I asked if it was hot and took it from him---it was!! This type of poor service is exactly the reason we decided to only ever get take out. We decided to get the specialty latte, but they were out of the syrup to make it. Settled for another flavor and I could not drink it. Save your money!! Maybe they use tap water, or something, but it was horrible. Undrinkable. In addition, the people who take the orders just are not friendly, or helpful. The entryway is really dark. We will be sticking to takeout only from here. read more

Bennu was recommended to us because it is vegetarian friendly. I was excited to eat here as the food is always spoken highly of. We came here as a group of six with three different orders. I ordered an avocado wrap with chips and salsa, my husband got The Soprano panini and we ordered garlic fries for the table. Next to us our friends placed their order and behind them the other group. We sat down and within 5 minutes one person recieved their food and it was another 15 minutes before the next person he got his. After 30 minutes of waiting we (the four remaining people) finally got our food... a panini, a wrap, a burrito, some nachos, and some fries. A burger and fries came out 15 minutes before this food. The food was similar to what you get at Panera (although Panera is better in my opinion). The only person who really enjoyed his food got a burger that was on special for today. The garlic fries were really good and I'd recommend them as long as you don't mind grease, there was a pool of it in the bowl after they were gone. All in all I'd rather give my money to a chain restaurant then to come back here, garlic fries are not worth it. read more

Really enjoyed my first visit to Bennu. It's not in the nicest plaza but once you are inside you forget about all of that. It is small but neatly laid out with a small to go area as well as a bar with stools and high top tables. We ate at the bar as it was fairly busy in the main dining area. Our bartender/server was very friendly but it was quickly apparent that they needed more help to handle a bustling Saturday lunch crowd. After getting our drinks (they have an excellent beer selection), we ordered the chicken wing dip appetizer, a bennu burger, and a chicken caprisi panini. The food was fabulous. It was nice seeing a chicken wing dip on a menu - a first for me. Everything seemed fresh and the homemade chips were excellent. I'd love to come back to sample more of the menu/craft beer as I was torn between a few choices. If they can get more help for their bartender/server then it would get 5 stars. read more

This place seems to always be busy so I thought I'd give it a try for my lunch break. I ordered the fish sandwich to go and picked it up after about 15 minutes. I asked for some lemon wedges and was told I would have to go to the bar to get lemon. Maybe its a New England thing but I never eat fish or seafood without lemon. I also don't drink or go to a bar so I was miffed by this. I told them I would not go to the bar and someone did get it for me. Also had to ask for a napkin which is a huge pet peeve. If I don't get a napkin I assume the person serving my food wipes their mouth on their sleeve. The sandwich was really good but not sure it was $10 good. The fries didn't have a grain of salt or seasoning and were limp and terrible. Probably won"t order again. read more

We've heard that Bennu was a good place to grab a bite, so we gave it a try for lunch. The line to order at the counter was about 8 people deep and we ordered a BLT and the AHI TUNA SALAD. My wife asked for no peppers in the salad and the counter person said they don't put any peppers in. Nearly 30 minutes later - still no food. We grabbed a table outside, more about that in a minute. When we asked the status of our order, they seemed surprised -- it was apparent they lost the order. When it finally came the Ahi Salad had green and red peppers and the tuna was over cooked. The BLT was ok, but sloppily assembled -- looked like I made it instead of something you'd get in a restaurant. Also no regular bottled water in the cooler, just the fancy water $ The sidewalks by the outside tables need to be attended to. Cigarette butt, chips on sidewalk and napkin and other stuff blowing around is not very appetizing We went inside to get a to go box put the home made potato chips in (good chips) and showed the counter girl the peppers that were left in the salad. She said " I DIDN'T PUT THEM THERE!" Ha.... Well we didn't either !! To be fair I will say I have only heard good things about this place. Maybe they have staffing problems today or everyone here is having a bad day I'd avoid coming here peak hours for sure, we will give it another try sometime. read more

Whether it be the food or the service, it's always something. Today I waited 30 minutes for my food after scheduling the order online. When I did get my food, I was so let down. I've been here multiple times and had good experiences before. I went in today and ordered their Mingo salad special. Not only was there a hair in it but the blueberries were so moldy they were stuck together. When I brought it back to them they said they would remake it. Gave it back remade minus the blueberries although romaine, cucumber, some canned mango and honey is hardly an $8 salad. I noticed the girl erased the blueberries from the board. Would have been nice if I were offered a refund or anything for the oversight. If I can't trust that my food is clean, or be reassured it was a rare mistake, I cant eat there. Burritos are really good and filling have had a few times and have never disliked. I also enjoy the veggie wrap. It had a balsamic vinegar dressing that really makes it. I absolutely love the Jimi (sandwich). Be careful though, the chicken slides around due to the delicious barbeque sauce. You'll probably end up putting the sandwich back together a few times but it's worth the hassle. Everyone I know says they love the homemade garlic fries. I'm not a huge fan of the hipster atmosphere but it's easily ignored when eating with friends or family. The decor, despite being a little hipster, is refreshing and different than most settings you'll find in CNY. The bar is a plus as well. They've got plenty of beverages to choose from the open bar. All and all, Bennu is great for things like lunch and get togethers but the small space does not allow for bigger parties. This is not somewhere you'll want to have a large family dinner (to each is own). It's especially hard to hear when the place is full. read more
