Wish there were negative stars. Stopped in after a fun "Bag Day" with my husband and obviously put out the bartender, Ashley, who sighed audibly when we sat at the bar. When she asked what we wanted and we said we'd like an app and a drink she literally tossed menus at us. When I asked if they had prosecco she barked a no at me. I looked at my husband and we decided to leave, but not before she could yell out behind us, "No prosecco no deal?" Honey - no deal came well before the no prosecco. You were miserable and rude and I sincerely hope your manager reads reviews, because you took business from your workplace - and your attitude won't stop with me. Let's be honest, the food at Packard's isn't good, unless you absolutely love just frying random items and eating them. But, it's a popular hangout and generally good atmosphere that's a cross between dive and pub. Better to go for drinks and appetizers than a meal. For the price, there are countless better options in Northampton. read more

I used to love Packard's. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the food, the service, everything. But over the past few months, I think it's gone really downhill. Our past 4 visits have been disappointing. With our most recent, tonight, being the worst and our last visit for a very long time. The tables and seats were gross. Our waitress was less than friendly. The kid's dinners seemed to be half the portions they usually were. My order came out incorrectly and when I asked about it the waitress claimed that it was in-fact correct. And then some of the food, namely in my wife's order was disgusting. It really makes me sad to see this happen to a place I once really loved. We tried to chalk our bad visits up to coincidences. But 4 times in a row is hard for us to ignore. Please get better Packards. We'll be back to try again someday I'm sure. But it won't be for a very, very long time. read more

I've been here a few times--the food is decent enough but there are lots of bar food places that do it up better. Not a great place to watch a game. That said, I've never been upstairs which apparently is fun so maybe I would give 3 stars if/when I check that out. read more

We banned packard's as of tonight. My fiance and I were walking down from the upstairs and the bouncer decided that we were drunk & we had to finish our drinks and leave. #1 I was drinking water, I was the designated driver & very sober, I didn't put up a resistance in the slightest. Ask the bartender. #2 The bartender, I don't know her name but she was extremely kind and was willing to help...but after being confronted again by that bouncer it ticked us off. We literally were walking downstairs and the bouncer thought we were drunk & asked us to leave. I'm sorry but we were admiring about how we liked the place and maybe it could be the place we would regularly go to on a weekend. We did nothing wrong, and we were asked to leave. Thanks but no. You lost our business, you made my fiance cry, and you have nothing but instant negativity from us. I'm sorry but we were very excited about going to packard's and that was ridiculous. Whoever that was needs to get off his power trip & learn how to treat customers. read more

So many good memories in this place. Flying all day, then a few beers before bed. Or dropping parachute dudes all day and hanging with them at the bar afterward. All good stuff. Pretty good. The place definitely is a dive bar. I was in town on business and came here on the recommendation of my host. The service was friendly and just what you'd expect from this type of place....good service with a touch of sass. I ordered a fish burrito at the recommendation of my waitress. It was an odd mix of fried haddock, lettuce, tomato, chipotle sauce, and grilled onions wrapped in a whole wheat wrap. It was by no means Mexican or even a typical mexi-cali fish but it was very good. The haddock was fried just right with just the right amount of breading, the lettuce was crisp and the tomatos were fresh and the onions added an awesome sweet flavor that really rounded out the burrito nicely. Packard's had solid diner food and solid beer. If you need a guaranteed bite to eat that won't break your budget or your stomach, I highly recommend hitting Packards. It seemed like perhaps the night scene would be better to improve the atmosphere, because it was empty around the dinner time. The food is actually pretty good if you want a giant delicious burger and a cheap beer. The decor is like what TGIF was trying to do, but real, with weird vintage paintings and strange decals from age old northampton. It's a fun place to play darts on the second floor if you're up for drinking, but the bar in the front can get a little crowded. Overall, fun place, great greasey-type food, and reasonably priced beer. read more

The whole "down stairs bathroom situation" is glorious. I really just enjoyed the bar. The drinks are moderately priced, and the bartenders are super sweet! I love packards! No frills! It's exactly what you'd expect! Plus more! There are so many rooms and floors! The place is HUGE! I love to hang out up front tho. The booths are fabulous! Plus you can sit there and just order drinks! Wicked cheap cocktails too! And food. Yum. Plus you can order pretty late - for Northampton. I like to order the cesar salad but get the skewered shrimp on it. They are wicked accommodating with changing stuff on the menu for you! Plus late at night you can order veggies and dip! I have also gotten lots of free drinks here when the bartender is in a good mood! Also ask him to make you fun shots! Great place to go and just get fucked up with no judgements! read more

Upstairs there is a pool table and darts, and it's not too loud. Downstairs gets pretty loud and the bar is both hard to reach and hard to order from. They have a pretty good beer selection but most of the beers tasted really flat and sharp (symptoms that perhaps the taps were not kept clean). Also, most of the drinks were pricey compared to other bars in Northampton. Overall, I think there are better places in the town. read more

This is my favorite place to go out for a drink with a friend. Even on weekends when it is crowded, I've always been able to get a table and sit comfortably to converse with friends while having an affordable drink. There are great beers, and the mixed drinks are decent (I like the mojitos, margaritas and Russian Quaaludes are to die for). Don't order wine, you'll be disappointed, but it's not a place to go to have wine anyway. The food is deliciously satisfying, with the exception of the bloomin onion which is way too greasy. But nachos, popcorn shrimp, salad, and fries are all great! The waitresses know what they're doing (sometimes a little too much), and don't mess around. M and I have visited Packard's together three times, and have snagged the same seats and server each time. I loved this place from the moment I first walked in the door; the decor, as other reviewers have mentioned, is quirky and fun. I like that there are three very distinct spaces: the rectangular room that houses the bar and kitchen with a row of booths against the opposite wall, the back room with tables and a couple of booths, and the pool room upstairs. Each time we've visited, M and I have parked ourselves in a booth directly across from the bar (the one next to the photo of the face made out of cigarettes and the framed Make-a-Wish certificate that lists Packard's as the parent of a little boy). The first two times, we each just ordered a beer. The waitress suggested the Harpoon Brewery's UFO, which has become my favorite beer, and I keep trying to find it at other places in Northampton. The third time, we ordered our customary two beers, and also got some fries with mayo. The fries were great; crispy without being greasy, and seasoned without being too salty. The rest of the menu is fun, and seems decently priced for bar food. I've heard good things about the nachos, though I haven't tried them myself. I love the atmosphere, and appreciated that the server wasn't at all perturbed the times that we just ordered a couple of beers. There is also a very intriguing list of Packard's cocktails that I intend to explore next time we visit. I'm particularly interested in the Redheaded Stepchild. read more

Got completely taken advantage of by a male bartender who overcharged me by an insane amount for two beers. Ordered two basic non craft beers and was charged the same amount as two friends who ordered two hard drinks. I normally LOVE Packard's. I probably frequented it more than any other eating/drinking establishment in Northampton. It has a fun atmosphere and the layout is really cool. It's great for an inexpensive dinner, play pool or just drink your ass off. However, I had an issue this past weekend. Our waitress was rather low in quality. She did not offer to refill our drinks and was barely present at the table except to take the order and bring a bill. The dining area was most definitely not busy. She was barely worth the 18% tip I gave her. The absolute worst part being that she altered my charge slip. I had paid for our dinner on my card and left the tip in cash -- which I indicated on the receipt. Two days later, when I checked my statement online, I found that she had tacked on $7 as an additional tip. A call to the manager proved barely fruitful -- he did not ask for the waitress' name or any specifics. At first he said, "well, you left a tip right?" Of course I did, dummy, but it was in cash. He gave me direction to contact the bookkeeper who is not available for another 4 days. The fact that this was not eyebrow-raising and that I would have to wait days to speak to anyone have my problem repaired will severely hamper my ability to go there again. I love Packards. I've been coming here to eat since elementary school and it's a hometown favorite. Love their nacho's, Blu-Shroom Burger and of course their amazing seasoned fries. Tuesday quiz nights are also a lot of fun. I never really come to drink because the crowd's not really my scene, although I always enjoy the musings of the recovering alcoholic bouncer who looks like he would never (let alone could never!) hurt a fly. My only complaints are the servers are hit or miss -- sometimes you get the nice ones, but more often than not it's either the rude one who's been serving there for 10+ years or the totally useless incompetent new one -- that and the portions are smaller than they used to be. Nevertheless, I will still enjoy Packards and keep coming! read more

I don't know why this place is considered a dive bar, it's beyond awesome. Whether you want a burger, a game of pool, to watch the game, or just a great selection of beer, Packard's has you covered. Gets crowded on weekends, all the more reason to go during the week. Has occasional party events that get packed, but for good reason (fun). Plus it's got a distinctly "Cheers" aura to it, you feel at home and comfortable even before you've gotten to know the folks behind the "I work here - MOVE" shirts. Went out for a bite to eat with the family. The sundown burger was good, a bit undercooked from what was ordered. The bacon on the BLT that was ordered was nearly raw. We waited a good 45 minutes for food on a Sunday night. When the issue with the bacon was brought to the waitresses attention she said okay I see and nothing more. We get the bill and the BLT is still on the bill despite it not being consumed. I would only recommend this place as a bar not a spot to stop and eat in town for an 80 dollar meal for 4 you can go nearly anywhere else in town and have better food and service. read more

This is my go to bar. I've been coming here for many years and would call myself a regular. They have a good selection of pub food and appetizers and the kitchen is open till midnight which is great. They have a good selection of beer on tap and some decent cocktails. They get a good diverse crowd here. Locals and transplants, college kids to old timers and everyone in between. They have ten pool tables as well as darts and pinball. They have a heated outdoor patio making this one of the few bars where you can have a cigarette with your beer. The heater is a godsend in the winter months. I've had countless good times at Packards and look forward to many more. I will always run into someone I know there, many of the staff are friends as well. Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. read more
