Oh my God, what an experience I was very much so unaware that the Marriott at Virginia Beach…read moreoceanfront offered a rooftop on their rooftop is called Orion's roof. It's on the 23rd floor of the Marriott as soon as I arrived I saw that they offer valet parking so I opted into doing that. Then I was instructed to go to 23rd floor to enter the rooftop. Luckily we made a reservation because Orion's roof is known for always being busy and you might have a long wait. However once you met with the hostess, she took us to our table. We sat towards the back of the restaurant with the view of the oceanfront, which is gorgeous. They also have seating on the actual like outside rooftop where they have fire pits, and you can overlook the ocean as well as the city. However, as soon as we sat down, our waitress came over she explained the menu it is a Asian cuisine restaurant so they were out a lot of Asian cuisine options she also gave us a drink menu and she needs suggestions. I forget what type of drinks that I got, but they were delicious. I believe the first one was a pomegranate martini. The second drink was another pomegranate martini and the third drink was espresso martini. Once my friend arrived we decided to order appetizers. The first appetizer I ordered was the oysters which were fresh oysters with lemon, hot sauce, vinegar, horseradish, any type of topping that you would like my friend ordered their muscles, which came in this really good brown broth with bao buns. The broth was so delicious. He had to drink it like soup. Once all the muscles were gone. The muscles were cooked to perfection very well seasoned very well cooked not chewy just very delectable the oysters or chefs kiss they were very, very delicious flavorful and cooked to the right temperature. Next, we ordered our entrées. I ordered the Bronzino fish that came came with rice and a vegetable my friend ordered I think the Atlantic cod which also came with vegetables and rice. We did not order dessert, but we did order a espresso martini. The espresso martini was great. We asked for Baileys to make it a little more smoother and sweet, and it was also recommendation from our waitress. The ambience was to die for from the views the music playing in the background the upbeat waitresses and waiters are moving around the restaurant. It was very like high class and fancy restaurant so that was that was really nice. Overall, it was a great experience. I really enjoyed it. I wish I would've known about this rooftop earlier in my space at the Hilton oceanfront but I definitely will return. I suggest if you were in the area and you want to try rooftop and you wanna have like a little classy evening or good dinner that's not typically just seafood. I suggest trying out this roof top. I had the branzino, which was delicious, and my wife had the short ribs, which were excellent as well. But I think that's where "excellent" and above ends. Our waitress was good and provided solid service, but I think the service overall could--and should--be better. The real letdown was the reservation process. We were a group of six and had reservations. When we arrived, we waited about 10-15 minutes before being directed to the sushi bar. Who makes reservations for six people at a sushi bar? That shouldn't even be an option for a party of six. To their credit, the waitstaff pulled together a section for us in the bar area after another 15-20 minute wait. Unfortunately, it was an awkward setup for six people trying to converse and have a good time. We asked if we could be moved to the empty section next to us, but were told those tables were reserved for parties of two. No problem--that sounds plausible. The problem is, those tables stayed empty for the entirety of our visit. The drinks were average as well. Anytime I order an Old Fashioned and it comes with regular ice cubes instead of one large cube, I already know what's coming. The ice melts too quickly and waters the drink down. Orion's Roof could--and should--be an easy five-star dining experience, but it falls short. The good news is that most of the issues holding it back seem relatively easy to fix.

This review has taken me far too long to get to writing, but here it is. I was fortunate enough to spend three weeks down in Virginia Beach for business. I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Atlantic and 39th, along from my friends and family. While work was engaging, my off hours were a bit of a drag, being so far away from home in Canada. On my first night, however, I discovered Pacifica. Exhausted from twelve hours of flying, I dragged myself into a rather unobtrusive bar up one street from my room. I was not to be disappointed. In the three weeks that I was in Virginia Beach, I was in Pacifica almost every night. So, first to the nuts and bolts. Pacifica is serious about their drinks. These guys made me some of the best cocktails I've had not only in Virginia Beach, but anywhere. I hopped from liquor to liquor almost every night, and they always had a laundry list of cocktails to choose from. Not only is their drink menu enormous, but the bartenders also ALL have a myriad of other drinks up their sleeves. To top it off, their wine and beer selection is excellent. I've always liked tapas, but wasn't sure if I would dig a restaurant that was based solely off of it. Not to fear - just like their drink menu, their tapas is varied, ever changing and very, very tasty. They had a good mix of meats and local seafood and some pretty innovative stuff... goat tacos? Duck curry? Yes. They've got a good vegetarian selection as well, for those so inclined. Onto the less tangible stuff. The staff that I met, Chris, Christin, Laura, Mike, Anthony, Kendra and the others (whose names I'm sorry to be blanking out) were phenomenal. I suppose that I became a kind of regular in my three weeks, and every time I walked in I felt immediately welcome. The lack of televisions in the bar was actually a big plus, as people turned instead to conversation with each other and, even with strangers. While I found that people in Virginia Beach were generally very friendly, perhaps it was simply Pacifica's atmosphere that inspired that friendliness to bump up a notch. Overall, I can't recommend Pacifica enough. Whether you want to pop in there for a quick beer or glass of wine after work, have a delicious meal (or a serious of smaller dishes) or are fancying a few cocktails and some good conversation, this place is, in my opinion, the best you can go for. read more

The food here is spectacular. I have been several times and have always loved it. They have tapas, so the portions are small but you have the option to order several things so it's great! A few things I recommend: bread and butter (which changes everyday), mac'n'cheese, caprese salad, asparagus, and pork tenderloins. They also have a special board, and everything sounds delicious. The only thing I would have to say I don't like about this place is that they don't take reservations. My friend tried to throw her mom a birthday party here a few weeks ago and there were 20 of us. They wouldn't allow a reservation so we ended up celebrating at the bar. Also, they don't do seperate checks if you're sitting at a table. I think this is kind of ridiculous. The waitresses excuse was that it would take too long.... As a waitress in the restaurant industry for 8 years now, it takes me not even 1 minute to seperate a check. Get with the times. We sat at the bar, as we usually do, and I commented out-loud about the news of a cop being arrested for fraud. With no other provocation, the bartender went on a rant about people that voted a certain way. She called us all "dumb, racist, sexist, fascist bigots." As my wife nudged me, I bit my tongue while being insulted. After I paid my tab, I informed the bartender that I was none of those things, I treated her kindly, tipped 20% and also voted the opposite of her. I encouraged her (with colorful language) to get educated and also, unless she is the owner, she should keep her political opinions to herself as to not hurt Pacifica. This experience will make me dine elsewhere and unless I hear from the owner condemning this, encourage others to do the same. I'll take my money somewhere I won't be insulted while I pay the bills of the person that insults me. read more

No longer a desirable place whatsoever imho . Was a fairly regular patron between 2009 -2020...We all make mistakes, last summer I made a mistake by stopping in and protesting their crap service and snooty attitudes in the wrong manner . It says a lot , however, when the owner threatens patrons who leave negative reviews . Says a lot when I had to contact the Virginia Beach Police twice concerning their threats. What's done is done . Not angry at all. But I wouldn't go back there for any amount of money . However the owner was not privy to all the details and witnesses I have to the incident last summer. Those who cater to drug dealers and convicted felon s, such as this "Bar" had damn well better get a good lawyer and expect to surrender their ABC license soon if the "owner" makes any more threats or accusations towards me . It was our first time eating at Pacifica and we just loved the food. Small plates but that is what Tapas is all about. We had the Lobster/asparagus ravioli (very good) Two Way King Salmon - excellent!! The Thai Duck, Cheese Plate, and Lamb on top of Mediterranean Lentils. All the food was very good and nice ambiance, but can get quite loud real fast when you have a large table of people enjoying the cocktails. Be prepared to dig deep into your pockets cause for the two of us with 2 beers, 1 martini and a glass wine plus food above was just over a $100 bucks. Tip took us to $125. The chicken and biscuit was juicy and the biscuit was flaky and delicious. It would have served the dish well TJ have a little more syrup. I also loved the unique hash tots. I was simply visiting from out of state so I won't return, but I'd encourage you to! They are also included on Resy so be sure to book there or use a Resy credit if you have it!

She was friendly, attentive, and always seemed to show up right when we needed something. The head chef also stopped by our table and was incredibly kind and genuinely invested in making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. That level of hospitality really made the experience feel special. The meal started with a complimentary amuse-bouche of roasted golden beets, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and balsamic. It was a classy little bite that got the evening off to a great start. Then came the sweet potato biscuits with apricot jam...listen, I could've eaten an entire basket of those and been perfectly happy. For my entrée, I ordered the crab cakes with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. These are the kind of crab cakes people are looking for. My friend and I were mostly there to catch up, so we were talking, taking our time, and definitely weren't in a hurry. I really appreciated that Kassie never made us feel rushed and just let us enjoy ourselves. We started with the milk bread, which was delicious. My only issue was the price. It was $9 for what basically amounted to two Hawaiian roll-sized rolls. They were VERY good rolls, but $9 felt a little steep for the portion. For my entrée, I ordered the fried black bass over sofrito rice, and it was REALLY delicious. The fish was great, the sofrito rice complemented it perfectly, and the portion size was just right. It wasn't an overwhelming amount of food, but it was definitely enough to leave satisfied. I also ordered a passion fruit daiquiri even though it wasn't on the menu, and they were able to make one for me. That was delicious too! Overall, I really enjoyed Roses. The atmosphere was nice, and there was music playing in the background without being so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. They also had a DJ visiting from New York that night, and around 8:30 or 9, you could see people starting to come in specifically for the DJ. We were leaving around that time, so unfortunately I didn't get to hear the set, but judging by the crowd coming in, it seemed pretty highly anticipated! My only real criticism is that some things felt a little more expensive than they needed to be, especially that $9 milk bread. Otherwise, the food and drinks were delicious, Kassie was wonderful, and the atmosphere made it a really enjoyable night. I'd definitely come back.

We had a reservation for five. Their answer to that was to sit us at a four person hi-top and stick a chair on the end so everyone was crammed in, and sitting on the end meant everyone kept bumping into me the whole night. As for the distillery- someone had the brilliant idea to turn off all the lights in there at 7- so there went your view and any ambient lighting in the dim basement. The service was slow and lackluster. The food was lousy. I had the venison, which was under-seasoned. The pepper gravy had no pepper in it. Only the Brussels sprouts had any actual flavor. The bourbon was the best part of the meal. They offer small 2ox tasters and it was actually quite well done. But not worth going back for.
