After a lot of research, proposals and quotes from several solar companies, we landed on Pacific Sun... Their proposal was the most complete and the time the spent with us prior to the signing of a contract answering many many questions and providing the back up data to assist us making the best choice for our current and future needs was superior. We have had our Solar System for 3 years now and couldn't be happier along with our higher than expected savings in our power bills. During installation they inspected our roof and found several cracked and even missing tiles that they replaced and repaired. I have never given a business a negative review in my life, this will be my first. The person that I communicated with was Dale. He was nice and professional at first. Everything was going well and I wanted to proceed with my solar installation. I paid for the $1000 dollar deposit and signed the contract on March 11 (Friday) (This will be important later). On March 13 (Sunday), I had a family emergency and needed to help with living expenses. So I decided that this was not the best time to purchase solar and would rather use the money to help my loved ones. On March 14 (Monday) I emailed Dale to let him know that I wanted to cancel the contract. (On the contract, it states, "You may cancel this transaction, without any penalty or obligation, within three business (3) days from the date the Agreement was executed") And for context, The California Solar Consumer Protection Guide states: "You have at least three business days to cancel your contract for any reason. You may cancel the contract by emailing a notice to your solar provider by midnight of the third business day." So I signed the contract and deposited the $1000 dollars on March 11 (Friday) and I emailed Dale to cancel the contract on March 14 (Monday). I thought to myself I had three business days to cancel and since March 14 (Monday) was the first business day after March 11 (Friday) that there would be no problems. But I was wrong. March 15 (Tuesday), Dale gives me a call at about 9 am. He proceeds to say that he received my cancellation request for the contract. But he will only refund me $650 out of the $1000 that I initially deposited. At this point I was taken aback and didn't even know how to respond. I thought I had misheard what he said to me and I asked him to repeat his message. He stated that the cancellation was after three days already so he would not be able to refund me the total amount of $1000 back. I started by responding that three business days have not passed yet and in California a business day is regarded as Monday through Friday. He then retorts by saying that well their company works over the weekend so it counts as a business day. I was completely dumbstruck at this point. I thought that maybe I was in the wrong, so I took out the contract that I printed out and read him the contract word for word stating that it clearly states a business day and does not include weekends. And that even if we were to include the weekend as part of the three days, March 14 (Monday) would still be the third day after I signed the contract and that I have until midnight of the third day. Dale proceeded by not answering my statement and instead said, "why did you think you wouldn't be charged?" to which I respond "because it's clearly written in the contract that I may cancel this transaction, without penalty or obligation." He then says, "Well, either way you're going to be charged and I can only give you back $650. At this point, I can see that this was just a money grab, that he was going to just take my money regardless of what proof I had, what the contract states, or whatever I had to say. Some of you might have had good experiences with Dale, most likely because he was going to make money off of you. But once he sees that he won't be making a sale, that nice and professional mannerism just completely disappears. Dale stole money from me plain and simple. So if you do business with Pacific Sun Tech or Dale personally. Please be careful and consider all your options before committing. Honestly, this experience makes me think that if he could steal money from me when we're only talking about $1000 dollars, what would he do if your system goes down and you are trying to request your warranty to cover the costs? What would he do or say to avoid paying money to fix your system or what loopholes is he going to pursue to guarantee minimal losses? In the end, please be careful, and take care. read more

Having spent awhile researching and getting quotes for the specific system I wanted Pacific Sun Tech came in below their competitors and with better equipment. We went withe the REC 370s and 2 10kw enPhase backups. This included an upgrade to my homes ancient electrical panel. It took about 4 months from ordering to installation. Most of the wait was due to county and local planning backups and not PST. The actual installation took two days after which our home was nearly off-grid and could be entirely off grid if we wanted. The financing was quick and straight forward. Dale answered the few questions I had regarding tax credits. The front of my house is south facing, so I wanted a solar system that would look good. Dale designed a 10 KW system that included 18 panels on the main roof and 7 panels on my west facing garage. This was the nicest looking design out of several competing bids. I decided to pay cash, so Dale gave me a substantial discount. I made progress payments as each phase of the system was completed. Each step from design, building permit, electric panel upgrades, installation and final inspection sign-off was done professionally, competently, and on schedule. The system is performing very well. Now I can run the AC, the washer/dryer and the pool pump during daylight hours for free. My Edison bill for July was $12.31, down from $280 in July of 2022. BEWARE-BEWARE-BEWARE This company does not guarantee production !!! I bought a solar system from Dale and Steve at Pacific Sun Technologies in August of 2020. Following is an email I sent them in September of 2021 which will give you a sense of the issues I have had. " Steve, I spoke to you several months ago about the output of the solar system your company installed in August of 2020. You asked me to give it a full year in order to properly gauge the results and we are now at that point. The attached spreadsheet shows the KWh breakdown by month and as you can see the system only produced 81% of the forecast amount. There wasn't even one month that the production reached it's goal. You assured me that you would make any corrections necessary once you had a full year of data. In November Dale had a technician come to the house to address my concerns about the system underperforming. He found that all systems were operational but did note that multiple panels installed behind the chimney were heavily shaded and actually took pictures that are in your file. Please let me know what steps you're going to take to make corrections to my system. " Pacific Sun Technology response was as follows: "While I'm sorry the system didn't quite generate exactly what we were hoping we do not guarantee the system is going to generate what is proposed, as it is an estimate and there are a lot of variables like weather, shading, first year degradation, and many more factors that control this. With that said I would be happy to put together a quote to help get you more power; would you provide a copy of a recent utility bill so we can design around what the system didn't offset for you?" My response was as follows: "Weather not being great consistently? We are in the midst of an historic drought and have had nothing but sunny days. I have been questioning the output from the beginning and you and Steve have consistently asked me to wait for a years worth of data which we now have. Steve assured me that if I would wait the year and if production didn't  measure up he would take care of me including relocating panels if necessary. At this point I would prefer to deal with Steve as he seems to understand that my issues are most likely the result of you placing the panels incorrectly. ( confirmed by your technician).  I'm sure if you did a shade analysis you wouldn't have located panels behind a chimney." In summary, Steve ( the owner ), Dale ( the salesman), and the service technician ( owners son ) have all acknowledged the dramatic underperformance of my system but are unwilling to do the right thing and fix their mistakes. They are offering to sell me more equipment for an estimated cost of $8800. There are many solar companies that stand behind their production estimates but this isn't one of them. I quoted and interviewed 12 solar installation companies because I was getting solar plus storage (battery storage). I ended up going with Pacific Sun because their team provided me with the most comprehensive responses as well as the professionalism they displayed thru the many touch points. Both Dale and Manny are top notch, they will be able to answer all your questions and concerns and put you at ease. My installation was complex, I ended up getting a micro grid installed with a Sonnen Battery, first in San Diego county. As can happen, being the first can bring uncertainty, but thru it all, Pacific Sun was on it and helping to push thru on all the issues that arose. The final system installation was completed to my original requests and satisfaction. This included painting of all the conduit to match the roof shingles and walls, patching and painting of any interior walls, and pest guards around the solar arrays. Getting the permission to operate also took extra time because of the system complexity, so instead of 2-3 days, was about 2 weeks. But now my system is up and running and with the battery, I am able to program it to help with TOU arbitration and get a better return on my investment plus hedge against future rate changes that may come from SDG&E. Net of all of this is that Pacific Sun was high on my list from the first interview and I am very glad I went with them for my installation. These guys are awesome! We moved into a house a year ago and noticed that the solar system that came with the house is problematic. We weren't getting enough voltage to power our inverter to push what was being generated onto the grid. Their local and they installed my system under Sungevity Solar in 2013. Sungevity as a company in the solar business is long gone...however I have had nothing but excellent service from the install, to warranty work, to my recent solar panel cleaning which the technicians arrived earlier than expected, were knowledgable of the service they were to provide and followed up with me after they completed the work with their findings and asked if I had any questions. We had Bird metal netting installed by this company around the base of our solar panel in 2018 soon after moving into the newly build house. They claimed that their netting is the most secure in the business. I had called them today(5 year since install) because a piece of netting was some how pulled away from the base of the panel, when called the company, they said that sometimes pigeons can pull the metal fencing away and that it was originally attached to the panel by adhesives, "ADHESIVES"??? to install these netting it cost 700.00 and their claim was it was the best in the business. So now I basically have to pay for pigon abatement (pest control) before they come back out and install the malfunctioned panel for 140.00 (tech call fee)+ 15.00 ( panel fee). Please ask details which I failed to ask before considering this company. Unfortunately they don't volunteer these information on their own. Again 700.00 for metal fencing that is glued on. read more
