Regret !!I I should have chose a different pool company. The common themes from other customers are consistent. Poor/ inconsistent communication, damage to our residence / property, trash and debris left for weeks, failed inspection due to safety related corners being cut, arbitrary price changes and more. For example: a safety mechanism to prevent electrical shock was not completed to code. I was told to lie in order to pass inspection. We failed inspection. I have the video ! A unilateral price change was decided by Lacy and I was expected to sign and agree without consult. The contracted electrician left the electrical box wide open during a storm. A heavy amount of rain filled the inside of the electrical box and on the breaker. (Pictures attached) . The trencher recklessly damaged a gas line and electrical conduit instead of lifting the lines out of the ground. (I have the videos) A window was broken by workers. Not only was I not told about the damaged window - it took close to 6 months of repeated requests to have it repaired. Over 6 missed "replacement appointments ". Ultimately the replacement window was broken. My concrete driveway was snapped. I was told that it would be repaired. Later that changed full circle. In February, I asked for arbitration for the unresolved issues. Now after almost 2 months of stalling - still no arbitration. Things fell apart after the initial sale. I should have questioned their ethical frame work when the process started out with a request to back-date the contract. It only got worse. Sadly, I have more examples of poor workmanship if needed. This pool project that has begun in August 2025 is still not complete. With all of these major problems before the pool is complete - do you think they will stand behind their product after it's complete ? Choose wisely, I didn't. read more

We have been working with Pacific Sun on our pool and landscaping for over a year. The project ran months over schedule, which was affected by pandemic supply issues, but was made worse by poor scheduling and planning. Since project completion, many issues with bad installation and cheap materials have come to light. Follow-through from the firm has been very slow, but hopefully is improving. Warranty support is there, but very slow to date and with minimal follow-up. We took a chance with this company in spite of mixed reviews, because of the up-front, no-risk landscaping design work they offer. The designer is quite good also. We also continue to use them for weekly pool service, as their employee Blake is reliable and observant. Unfortunately, based on our experience to date, I would have trouble recommending them. Hopefully I can update this review more positively after issues are addressed. We have not met the owner, in spite of several requests. Pool and Spa Swindlers Pacific Sun Pool N' Spa (PS) is what happens when nepotism, deceit and incompetence collide. This is a poor example of a family-owned business. We had a $200K budget that included Pool, Spa and Landscaping for our front and back yard and ended up not getting everything we originally contracted. For the past 10 months we have endured lies, severe delays, contract breaches and manipulation, nasty arguments with the lead PM, price gouging, long periods of time with no communication or updates, damage to our property and community common areas. Sales team lied to us from the very beginning. We were provided with a beautiful digital plan that the construction team was unable to deliver. The yard measurements were inaccurate and not to scale which caused us a great deal of issues with our HOA submission and approval. Pass off from one internal team to the next was never explained. We were made to feel like fools for believing the sales team by the head PM on several occasions. Several times he stated that customers do not know what they bought, but he failed to understand that what we were sold was not what was able to be delivered. Sales intentionally does not get into the details in the contract so that the PM can substitute in low quality products and pass them off as being above industry standard, when they are not. They do not provide any means for us to maintain any of the items installed. We never once interacted with the owner. It's a one-shot deal. They verbally offer a 3 year warranty on the pool equipment but it is not listed in the contract. So you are on your own after everything they installed falls apart. We were told there is no warrantee on any plants they planted in our yard. They planted half dead plants that cost $60 ea. There is no loyalty among thieves. Every single Manager that stood in our yard had something negative to say about one another or the owner. The only thing they were on time to do was collecting checks like an organized crime shakedown. They did just enough to trigger a "progression payment", mentioning the contract as enforcement, without finishing tasks from previous phases. Landscaping was performed by inexperienced crew members that showed up to the worksite late, drunk or high. They literally dumped pea gravel on top of newly planted plants, left hand prints on the front and side of our house, paint and concrete were damaged, TRASH was tossed into our pool and floated in it for months because the subcontractors do not care. Landscaping crew, failed to extend the water filtration to all of the plants in our yard. The tree that is the centerpiece of our front yard is not planted deep enough, and the elevation is not level. We got our own plants and PS wanted to charge us more than the cost of the plants to put them in the ground. During the change request process we were charged three to four times the cost of the materials plus labor, but was never credited for labor when they had to issue us a credit. In our contract we were told that QA would be performed, it was not. We had to greet subcontractors, and new crews to explain what needed to be done. We should have charged for the ridiculous amount of time we had to spend supervising their crews and subcontractors. They treat their employees terribly. People just let themselves into our backyard unannounced. We would wake up and there would be strangers in our yard and we had no notice or warning that they were coming. During our project several PS employees quit or voiced their extreme displeasure with the company as a whole. We, as the customer, should not know about how little PS pays their employees. We requested that the owners son never step foot on our property, he is so incredibly rude and unprofessional. He announced he was coming over after we told him not to, and we had to tell him a second time that he was not welcomed. His audacity is unacceptable. Working in this industry is not his calling, he is not good at being a Pool expert and should just tell his dad that he needs to go do something else. The crew that reports to him has no respect for him either, do not like working with him and refer to him as "el nino" ("the child"). After over ten months we STILL do not have a completed pool, we have a pool that has multiple cracks in the grout, missing grout and a hole in that leaks water to the street and an unresponsive team. The pool boy doesn't even explain how to conduct a weekly chemical test on the pool. He told us to read the instructions. So many more awful things occurred with this horrible company. There is just not enough space to type it all out. If I could give NO stars I would. This continues to be the worst experience we have ever encountered. I do not recommend this company to anyone. If we could give a negative number, we would. We have Pacific Sun do our original design and construction. The design was solid and we are still pleased with it as we knew what we wanted as far as shape, depth, etc. It was the construction, that was TERRIBLE. Pacific Sun's mode of operation is to get you under contract and bring in subcontractors to do the work. They did a terrible job in that we have had continual problem with the structure of the pool where the rebar is too close to the surface of pool AND the coping started to cracked within 6 months of the pool being built. We reported the problems we were seeing with the pool and NO ONE addressed our issues. Come to find out, the sub contractor lost their builders license (not due to our project) so Pacific Sun took no responsibility. Management was notified in writing and finally filed a contractor complaint with the State and BBB. They are a joke. IF you are even 'thinking' about using Pacific Sun, come over to see our pool which needs to be totally rebuilt because the pool structure (rebar) was not installed correctly, resulting in multiple surface patching, cracked coping, and significant deck cracking. Do yourself a favor... use another contractor. Note: I never used YELP to report any good or bad vendor before but every time I see this bad pool work, I get soooo upset that I finally made time to post this. read more

Very happy with our beautiful new pool! Chose the Pac Sun team of Lacy, Kevin, Ken, Jose and Erick after getting 3 other pool quotes last spring. They did a great job of understanding my vision and worked with me every step along the way when changes were needed. They built me the pool I wanted, with a paver deck, turf area for my kids, a custom front courtyard wall, and a nice built in fire pit seating area. We were looking to build a custom pool with a spa. Lacy was amazing when she called to coordinate the meeting. She was on time and very friendly during our initial interview. She told me she will send me an estimate within few weeks and if we like the quote she'll come in for in person design review of our pool. We agreed to the estimate and wanted to move forward. Meeting was rescheduled a couple times (no big deal) last time it was rescheduled due to her getting sick, which I totally understand. She told me she will email me the design over the weekend because she feels bad as we had to reschedule so many times. Well, it's been two months. I left several messages I'm still waiting for my design. I am glad this happened before we signed a contract. I left a message on a the main number because you cannot talk to a real person either no call back. Very disappointed. read more

Owner's responses to negative reviews is quite telling. Had a consultation with them (Lacy Ault) and Frank (a New Yorker , I think ..), a very straight forward to the point landscape designer. Every question I had was responded by Lacy "later, later," she would say, "we'll talk about that later at the 3D presentation. Placing all her faith in closing the sale with THE WOW 3D presentation. Frank appeared to be a seasoned professional, was much more responsive to questions, suggestions and ideas, but always a bit reserved ( I had to walk a bit away with him while Lacy was taking measurements to get some answers to my questions) as to somehow worrying not to contradict Lacy's obsession with not talking about anything until LATER. Did not go through with them, Lacy's demeanor, negative reviews and especially owner's responses to negative comments did it for me. Frank seems to be very knowledgeable and honest, he is someone I might want to meet again, but not sure if he's part of the company or independent landscape designer or..... anyway that's my story . read more

Update on my review...5 years after completion of work don't buy pacific sun pool and spa, we finally vit the bullet and paid to have our front yard redone. The folks who were redoing it all asked (without us mentioning) who did the shotty work the first time. Our backyard has held up terribly so that is next to be redone. Sad to spend $150K only to have to spend another $100k to redo it all 5 years later. We had our pool built 5 years ago by Pac Sun Pools. We decided to go with them because they were local and had been in business for years. We thought that meant we would be able to count on them for years to come. That was not the case. The warranty lasts for 3 years, after that we were on our own. When we tried to call with questions or issues they wouldn't answer or they would recommend a private person to hire (no one came out). We wanted someone from Pac Sun to come out. They told us they don't do that. Gave 2 stars for the Pros: overall design, built on schedule, Dave helped with set-up and maintenance, drainage design, holds water Cons: 1.Our concrete is cracking everywhere- response- "sorry that happens" 2.At 3.5 years our Pentair remote system failed- response,"sorry out of warranty" Chose not to replace due to cost 3.At 3.75 years our INTELLIBRITE® 5G COLOR LED POOL & SPA Lights both went out- They told us to upgrade because they will last forever. response "sorry out of warranty" Had to replace 4. Our coping is completely deteriorating - response "sorry but that happens" 5. Customer service We did not receive a quality product that will last our family a lifetime. Unprofessional and unresponsive. If I could rate 1/2 star I would. Everything seemed good at first we got a great pool proposal and had a meeting. During the last meeting they were going to see about doing the landscaping plan we had in addition to the pool. They asked for 2 weeks to develop the proposal. Over the next two months, I followed up by phone 6 times and email 3 times and have yet to get ANY response. We have already received 2 pool estimates and we are so happy to take our 125K pool job to support a company that will actually follow up. read more

Had my entire back yard re done. Landscaping, pool and spa. Overall the experience was good. A few hick ups here and there which is to be expected on such a big project. At the end of it all I love my back yard. What I had envisioned came to fruition with the help of everyone but especially ken. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that since the project was completed I had some turf and some pavers cave in because the ground wasn't compacted properly. I reached out to Pacific Sun, they said they would repair it. Let's see if they come through . If all goes well I'll give them 5 stars for coming through. We had our pool, spa and landscaping done by Pacific Sun back in 2012. I decided to wait a few years to do a review because of coarse everything works great and looks amazing when it is new! But when you spend this kind of money on a renovation you want to know that the work will last and ensure there are no issues later down the line. First off the beginning process had a few bumps in the road, but nothing major. Fast forward a few years.... 1) We paid for upgrades stacked stone that is actually disintegrating in various areas around our pool. 2) The grout (or material between the coping and the pool) completely broke in between where we have steps that go up to our jacuzzi. We had to repair it ourselves. 3) They removed too much backfill dirt (the project manager commented that they took too much)and over the years with the rain the pavers have begun to sink and become uneven around the pool. We had them come out and fix it once and it happened again. We called numerous times and they never called us back. 4) We had them install stacked stone around the fire pit and we have had to glue multiple pieces back on because they have fallen off. 5). We hired them to do the monthly service on our pool and in the beginning Dave was amazing. Then Dave left and they brought in a new guy who was extremely rude, did not know how to service our system and we had to call to have someone else come help. Then they hired another person and he didn't come for a month. We didn't pay them since he didn't show up and when we called the office they said he had showed up and we owe them $. We checked our surveillance cameras and confirmed he never serviced our pool. All in all I would say the level of quality and service this company provides is mediocre at best. There are plenty of other companies out there that appreciate the business and value their customers. I feel like once they were paid the final payment for our project they could careless what happened after. We have had a few friends who have built pools since we built ours and they have had much better experiences and the finished product was much better quality. Do not use this company. I had an extensive project done in my backyard to include pool, two covered patios with fireplaces, landscaping, retaining walls, pavers, etc totaling over 300k. Mind you this was two years ago and I have been having problems ever since. I didn't want to post anything in case they were going to retaliate against me and stop sending out service (incompetent) people. But since they only seemed to temporary fix a problem and never solve, I have decided to post. First my pool/spa. Spa jetting and pool cleaner have never been 100%. Their remedy was to use a vacuum to force air into the air tube to get the spa working. Really? Every time? And to top that off my pool electrical breakers keep popping shutting the pool down. I had to reset breakers on a weekly basis. They sent someone out to fix the spa by adding some contraption to the spa air tube. Yeah still doesn't work. As soon as I got another pool contractor out here yesterday they laughed and pretty much stated I was screwed. Low end/cheap equipment that was wired incorrectly and missing several parts. And in the back of the equipment area they found PVC pipes, trash, and valves just thrown on the ground instead of in the trash (shows work ethics). Now I'm having to pay another contractor to fix there horrible work. I have a large hill in the back yard which was not done properly with gorilla hair. Looked good for about 2 months then it all came down. My landscape lighting has never worked properly. I have called numerous times and finally they sent someone out to fix. The lighting worked for about a week and guess what!!!!! They don't work again. The pool manager was Ken. No worth the dirt he walks on. The trees they planted died, the drip lines had to already be replaced, the valve to send the water uphill had to be replaced. The Pool project passed over the dead line by months. Numerous times no one was even working in the backyard and when they did the worker would leave their lunch trash in the backyard. He failed to do the little things you think would come with a 300k backyard remodel to include installing the gas fire logs in the fire places which I was informed did not come with the project or check their work to make sure things worked properly. Trust me people they put on a great show. Free 3D design planning and sales pitch was very good. But you will be in a fight as soon as they start. Ask around when getting your estimates. Other contractors will laugh when you say their name. They have been screwing people for years. You can't trust reviews all the time but please use your best judgement and don't get screwed like I did. Now I'm having to fix their subpar work, subpar landscaping, and subpar electrical. As you all can see the owner responds but provides nothing. If they give you references be sure you all do your reference checks and ensure they are real. All I can say is you all have been warned. UPDATE! Now here we are at the end of March. No progress. We still can't get the owner (Rob Ault) to return any calls. We have left messages with Jessie, the Cad guy, told Ken and Kevin multiple times we need to speak to Rob. The company that makes the coping can not match the original batch. Ken from Pac Sun agrees the new batch doesn't match, and if they'd actually ordered a replacement batch when they knew there was a problem we wouldn't be starring at a pool that has made no progress since early December. No one cares, no one is in charge, no one communicates, Our contract says the pool would be completed by mid February at the latest. THE WORST EXPERIENCE WITH ANY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY EVER. read more

The worst experience we ever had during our new pool build out. They are out there to get you. don't trust their sales people, they discuss and tell you what you want to hear, but then the contract don't match what agreed on. No Mastic was done, they said its not specified in the contract, like you know what mastic means when your out shopping for swimming pool, the lights were placed regular white color not LED multiple colors as agreed on. Asked to talk to owner and of course no results, he wants more money. I told him I am not happy and will not recommend him to any one I know and might express my experience on yelp. The owner then goes threatening me and said (I know where is your business and would go on your business yelp and leave bad reviews to hurt your bushiness if you leave bad reviews) This person I did not provide hi with any services and he is threatening me for defamation. This is a total threat by an immoral individual that would go unfaithfully and slander you for retaliation and not based on truth. We had our pool built by Pacific Sun 14 years ago. We recently ran into an issue with a small crack on one of our longer steps. Well it was actually about 3 feet long once it was looked at much closer. They came out and graciously handled the repair. Much to my surprise they handled it under their warranty. I will recommend them highly, as their integrity and quality is unmatched. Not to mention, they're still in business. I read through several negative reviews, and I just don't get it. Would not recommend this pool company. They lack integrity and do not stand behind the quality of their work. They also subcontract out to inexperienced companies who do low quality work. With our project, our pool deck pavers are sinking into the earth surrounding our pool. Water is puddling on the deck because of improper drainage placement as well. We had other companies confirm the work was not done correctly. Rob, the owner of Pacific Sun refused to address the issue, and we were basically told to have someone else come and fix it, which is unacceptable. Horrible customer service from Rob and his team. They are unprofessional and unresponsive to their customers. All they care about is getting paid up front before any work is done with a bullying mentality. In 2014, Pavers 4 Less was a subcontractor working for Pacific Sun a pool company we had hired for our pool project. After the completion of our pool, Pavers 4 Less installed travertine pavers in the entire yard surrounding our pool. Once the pavers were installed the backyard was not level and water would not drain properly. We contacted Pacific Sun several times about the issue and there was no resolve. The pavers in certain areas then started sinking more and more creating a trip hazard as well as more drainage issues. We once again contacted Pacific Sun who reached out to Joe the owner at Pavers for Less. We arranged for a time for both owners to come out and inspect the backyard. We had to cancel our appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, but Joe was not informed so he showed up and came into our backyard when we were not home. His assessment was that there was minor damage which was common and would cost approximately $1500-$2000 to repair. We raised the question with Pacific Sun as to firstly why he would come enter our backyard without anyone home therefore not allowing us the opportunity to speak with him directly, and secondly how is sinking pavers and improper drainage considered minor and common. Rob the owner of Pacific Sun responded that we should get other quotes from other paving companies. This is unacceptable to us. We expected a full repair and for both owners to stand behind their work. read more

Construction went well and the project managers kept in touch and were easy to work with. We had a few minor issues after project completion but they worked with us and committed to working through all the issues with reasonable expectations. I am not sure who these guys are paying to write good reviews but they are awful!! First Eric comes out to sell you on a plan to do your backyard but its a fraud its all minimal and everything you want is an up charge once construction starts. The construction took 4 times as long as was put into the contract which they never compensated us for. Weeks would go by and no one would show up to do any work but they always showed up right away when they wanted payment. The work was done so poorly I am already redoing portions of my yard that was just finished. Eric will never return your calls EVER once he receives your deposit. Im having issues with dying plants and their "6 month guarantee" is a fraud noone will return my calls. The people who wrote the review about the wonderful Dan showing up. There is no Dan we ever encountered and it took our job so long we met everyone at the company, besides the owner Rob who is to busy to ever come out to a job site. The review saying the owner is very involved is wrong too. I know 3 people who used Pac Sun and never heard from or met the owner until they called the office very upset demanding to speak to him. Honestly there are many other good landscaping companies out there save your money and time and go with someone who really cares about their customers. We had just purchased a new beautiful home in San Diego and had a blank canvas for the back and front yard landscaping plus we wanted a pool and spa. We checked out the local builders with the BBB and Contractor License Board and the builder we decided to go with was Pacific Sun 'N Spa they did everything from the pool and spa design to all the landscaping plus our outdoor kitchen and entertaining area. Pacific Sun gave us a positive attitude about our project and satisfied all of our wish lists. Everyone was great to work with including our designer, landscape department and all the working crews from our construction manager, to the office staff that was always there to answer our questions. DO NOT USE THEM. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with. I expressed my displeasure to my salesman over the long delay in receiving our pavers. For the second time they tried to pawn off inferior pavers. Eventually they got it right. However, I left 5 messages for my salesrep over the span of the project and eventually received a nasty text back months later. I called into their office to speak with the owner. The sales rep called me directly threatening me with bodily harm. I referred several of my neighbors which I cannot take back. The name Pacific Sun is a negative word in our neighbor. If you have to use them, make sure you are there for every step of the project. Luckily I was there or they would have missed pool steps, planter boxes, etc. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to spruce up our backyard for sometime now for our home in Crown Point. We wanted a great pool, jacuzzi, and outdoor kitchen. After discussing contractors/design companies with our friends and neighbors, and doing some research, we decided to get estimates from three companies with low contractor license numbers, and long track records in San Diego. All three companies we talked to seemed friendly, knowledgeable and capable. After speaking with all three companies we decided on Pacific Sun, their design was the best, their pricing was competitive, all of their references checked out. Our sales guys were Rick and Eric, they both were friendly and answered all of our questions with experience and professionalism. While it took a little while to get through the building permit process, the company gave us continuous updates along the way. After the construction began we could tell that the staff at Pacific Sun were all pros! Customer service, returned calls, and consistent production was all there (Lacy was amazing at keeping us updated). Our job was done within the 12-16 weeks they promised. We did end up adding a few things, and made some changes to our design along the way, but felt we were treated fairly with change order prices. What an exhausting experience, but we LOVE our backyard and are happy to recommend Pacific Sun to future pool and backyard shoppers!
