We are on a 10 Day Rd. trip and I think this is our favorite place we've stayed. The rate was the best for the value by far of any place along this trip and the facilities were surprisingly generous. The room had a separate bedroom which we did not expect and we were very happy for! The Jacuzzi had its own space which was lovely and peaceful, and included a view of the waves from the Jacuzzi itself! The lady at check-in was super friendly and extremely helpful. And don't get me started on the light show, I've never seen anything quite like this and found it to be fascinating and quite special! Property is also near the beach and has easy access to it. I would love to stay here again on a future trip to Gold Beach! read more

What a great value for all you get! We stayed here on the way north along the Coast, and were attracted to reserving this room, based on the online description of the light show. We were not disappointed at all - the facility is great! Walking down to the beach after sunset was pretty amazing, with the lower lawn area lit up quite tastefully. The room was clean and well-appointed with all we needed. We found the bed to be very comfortable. I had a chance to visit the hot tub, which is also clean and well-maintained. We stayed at this hotel on our road trip to Seattle. I booked it several weeks ahead of time and they charged my credit card for the whole amount so be aware if you book it they will charge you. We had the unit on the end of the main hotel section with a nice view. There was another unit butted up to the back of ours and the people had to walk by our windows to get to it so that is another thing to take into consideration if you're like my husband and get creeped out by that ;) The bed was comfortable and the room was really cute. The TV did not work which was fine by me ;) The shower is really small but it got the job done. We went down to the beach for sunset and it was totally worth it! I'd definitely stay here again. They had little grab and go breakfast bags in the lobby too. They had a muffin, fruit cup, orange juice and small bottle of water. read more

Pacific Reef is like a small town where there are poor people in a shoddy motel and people willing to pay twice the price for a hotel. The motel has poorly kept single rooms with scratches on the walls, mold in the bathroom and no curtain to cover up the broken window blinds (I changed clothes in the bathroom). There is no view and you cannot hear the ocean as you are a short walk to 101. You must also bring a chair or blanket to walk over to the hotel and watch the movie/light show. Recently stayed there for 4 nights; I had a second floor over looking the ocean. Firstly, it was a great value. The room was nice, the bed more comfortable than many hotels where I've stayed, and I loved the balcony. The TV was small, but who watches TV when the Pacific is right out your window? I really appreciated the lack of a clock or telephone, seriously. I was there to chill, and the room was conducive for that. I wasn't interested in the nightly light show, but it wasn't intrusive and probably nice for families. Liked the koi pond too. Some other reviews seem less favorable, but I enjoyed my stay. read more

We couldn't get a camping spot at Harris Beach in Brookings and needed a place to stay for the night that was pet friendly. A quick search of the Brookings area, and there were no decently rated place down there, everything was bad. We came across Pacific Reef at Gold Beach on Priceline and Expedia for a same day book, but was unsure of they had any pet friendly rooms open still. We tried calling them, it was after 6 pm and no one was picking up. We took our chances, and drove 30 min north to Pacific Reef to see if we can just walk up and get a room and we lucked out! The girl at the front desk said she was slammed with calls and apologized that the phone never got picked up when I called. We stayed here for 1 night in their economy room on 12/29-12/30 and paid around $114. The room was basic and small, but it had a comfy bed, and mini fridge. The bathroom was spacious and clean. Overall, it was not a bad stay. We ordered pizza from the local pizza place down the street and they delivered within 40 min. I would stay here again if needed! read more

We stayed here for one night on our west coast road trip. Furniture was old and rooms looked like they needed to be updated. The bed frame was WAY bigger than the mattress and too big for the room. I cant tell you how many bruises we have from it. It was hard not to trip over it. That's how we will remember this place. One their website it showed they have light shows at night. The front desk said that it was broken and they weren't too sure when it would be back up. We won't reserve here again. The website is definitely deceiving. read more

For the price we paid $370, we expected a much cleaner and more updated room. You can tell they are trying to get the property fixed up, but to charge premium pricing for a run down room with extremely dirty carpet, old scratched up furniture and paint missing off the wall...we just expected more and left there very disappointed. read more

My only minor complaint is the water pressure in the shower. Nice full kitchen was perfect for us because brought our own breakfast and lunch foods. Only a few minutes walk to the beach. Where do I start? Don't waste your money! When I entered the lobby the lady behind the desk was so nice as she was talking to another couple. That couple exited the lobby and the lady went monotone and was very rude...like I was putting her out. When I innocently asked if there were elevators, she looked at me like I was nuts and abruptly said "No...just stairs". Upon entering the building to get to our room, we immediately noticed dingy, dirty carpet. Entering our room, we noticed a musty smell and one chair on the balcony was broken. They obviously doctored their pictures of their balcony views as ours was obstructed by an ugly screen (see pictures). And the "light show"....don't get me started. What a disappointment! It seems there are more than a few hotels in Gold Beach with this name, strangely at the same address. Some people stayed in the one with decent rooms. I did not. My room made me want to check out and find another hotel, one with a bed that didn't tilt toward the floor and was so hard that I struggled to fall asleep. One with warm blankets. One with a clean bathroom. One with a room that wasn't so bare-bones ugly that it made me depressed. Stay anywhere else, folks. This place isn't worth your hard-earned bucks. read more

We had a room on the second floor, with an ocean room. It had a king bed and a balcony with rocking chairs. Overall our experience was good but we had a couple of hiccups. We brought an air mattress for our son, in case they didn't have enough cots. We were lucky and got one, but our 6yr old said it was really uncomfortable, so we ended up using the air mattress anyway. It's a long cot and takes up a decent amount of room, so I called the front desk in the evening to see if they could pick it up but the front desk said housekeeping was gone for the night. I didn't ask for a cleaning, I just wanted someone to take the cot out of our room, since it made it hard to get around the room. We had to go to the front desk to pick up a door sign if we wanted maid service or dnd. We put it out Friday night and by Sunday no one came to our room. What's the point of having the sign on the door? I will say when I called about it on Sunday, a lady came by with a bag of extra towels and toilet paper. Didn't have it cleaned Sunday evening since we were checking out on Monday. read more

We stayed two nights in late July. The place is sadly dated and the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in short of a bed and toilet in San Francisco. The bathroom was engineered for a miniature elf. I've never considered showering on my knees until this place. The exhaust fan was a tiny window that didn't help cut the steam. We bought a 6 pack of water and four of the six froze solid as did a bottle of 7up. The bed was a brick with a blanket but was a credit to a bohemian lifestyle. Accommodations are limited in this town so don't be choosy, this is a solid two star. Be brave! read more

Interesting hotel. We were told there would be a video show at 9:30. So, our room looked out upon the huge screen, at the back of the complex. Surprising is was really interesting. We sat in rocking chairs and watched a very interesting presentation, and entertaining. So, So,So close to the beach, and that beach is so wonderful. If I had any comment, it would be that the bathrooms need updating. The room itself, has been updated, but they didn't do the bathrooms. Staff was nice. read more

Here we were, in Gold Beach, Oregon, finishing up some business. We had dinner and decided to spend the night here. I usually will go out of my way if necessary, to find a chain hotel, but that wasn't possible here. All private hotels and motels. This motel was recommended so I'll give it a try. Rates were reasonable for walking in off the street, so we take a room overlooking the beach. Nice room, clean and had a balcony that we could sit on and see a sunset and crashing waves. Apparently they have a light show at night followed by a musical interlude. This night it was going to be music from the play "Mama Mia ". We were looking forward to that but after traveling the night before and working all day, we fell asleep pretty quickly. I did wake up in the middle of the night and went out on the terrace. The sky was very clear and the stars were amazing. Makes you realize how insignificant we really are on this beautiful earth we call home. Only down side was the room, the only one room left overlooking the beach, but did not have a King bed, only two queen beds. The sunset was beautiful and the sounds of crashing waves was very soothing. In the morning we had coffee on the terrace which was very relaxing. Not a typical hotel/motel that I would stay in but if I'm back in Gold Beach, you'll find me spending the night here. Yes I definitely recommend this motel. read more

Fifteen years ago, during a visit to Gold Beach, OR, we stayed at Pacific Reef Motel and had lunch at Chowder House, where I ordered oyster chowder. Through the sliding glass door at the back of our motel room, we saw two whales swimming just offshore and spouting water the way whales do. The memories of the oyster chowder and of the spouting whales have been urging me to return to Gold Beach for the past 15 years. And so, we returned in late September 2021, and stayed again at Pacific Reef Motel, where we were given the same room as 15 years ago. This time, the two whales did not return for their morning spouting performance. Our suite (the carpet, the walls, the bathroom) at Pacific Reef Motel was very clean. The sliding glass door at the back of our suite provided an excellent view of the beach, and of the Pacific Ocean beyond. The suite had a little coffee machine, and containers of coffee grounds for putting in the machine. The blankets and sheets were also very clean. Parking was convenient (we parked just 20 feet from the front door of our suite). MY PHOTOGRAPHS. My attached photos show the front office of Pacific Reef Motel, the front door of hour motel suite, and the side of the motel building where we stayed (in this photo, you can see the Pacific Ocean). Another photo shows part of Ellenburg Avenue and the large illuminated sign reading, "PACIFIC REEF - - NO VACANCY - - EXPERIENCE the LIGHT SHOW Playing nightly at dusk." I watched this light show. It is displayed on a huge screen situated on the lawn in back of the motel. On Ellenburg Avenue are a dozen restaurants, including Sunset Family Pizza, Spinner's, The Cape Cafe, Double D's Cafe, and Casita De Oro. Also on this street is Jerry's Rogue River Museum and Gift Shop. This gift shop has a huge variety of gifts relating to redwood tree parks, relating to Bigfoot, and relating to other things. ART PROJECTS MADE FROM STONES COLLECTED FROM THE BEACH. I wandered around the beach in back of Pacific Reef Motel and collected a dozen interesting looking stones. Some of the stones took the form of smooth oval-shaped flat pancakes and others took the form of oval-shaped puffy-pancakes with a black and white houndstooth pattern. After returning home, I arranged the flat pancakes and the puffy pancakes into little works of art (similar to sculptures) and used epoxy glue to keep the assemblies of pancakes in place. See my photos of three stone pancake sculptures. TRAVELOGUE MOVIE AND LIGHT SHOW AT NIGHT. On the large lawn in back of Pacific Reef Motel, visitors can watch a light show, where nearby bushes and trees are illuminated by colored spotlights (orange, green, blue). One of my photos shows a row of pampas grass to the side of the large lawn. On this same lawn, is a huge movie screen where visitors can watch a movie travelogue showing scenic attractions in southern Oregon. My attached photos show the movie screen during the travelogue. After our 2-day visit to Gold Beach, we explored Pistol River Rocks, which is a group of sea stacks on shores of Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint located 9 miles south of Gold Beach. Please see my YELP review of Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint. A mile north of Pacific Reef motel is Jerry's Rogue River Museum and Gift Shop. Souvenirs relating to Bigfoot (also known as, Sasquatch) are available at this gift shop. One of my photographs shows the Bigfoot-related souvenirs that I bought during our road trip from Berkeley, CA to Gold Beach, OR. These include, a plush toy elk (made by Wild Republic) that makes elk sounds when you squeeze the plush toy. The other souvenirs shown in my photo are cloth patches reading BIGFOOT LIVES, a cloth patch reading TREES OF MYSTERY with the image Paul Bunyan with Babe the blue ox, and an elegant wooden plaque with a 2-inch high Bigfoot busily walking through a redwood forest. Bigfoot is made out of a separate slab of wood that is glued on the main body of the plaque. Another gift shown is a refrigerator magnet reading, Elk Crossing, with a drawing of an elk. read more

Clean, cute and friendly . A small walk to the beach less than five minutes. The light show and movie screen was a fun bonus. Wish it would have had air conditioning but intend to like things on the cold side. It did have a nice box fan which kept us cool. A little on the expensive side but we enjoyed our stay. read more

Stayed 2 nights at the Pacific Reef and was not disappointed. We stayed in Room 105 and I think it's the first hotel room I've stayed in with a vaulted/beamed ceiling. The room was clean and inviting. Ryan was running the front desk and because I am handicapped and the room was upstairs, he offered to take all of our luggage upstairs and back down when we left. Total respect! I don't travel light. He also charged my scooter battery in the office so we wouldn't have to lug it upstairs. He really went out of his way to make sure our stay was amazing and I am eternally grateful. We could hear the ocean and see the light show from our balcony. It was so relaxing. I enjoyed the informative 15 minute show about the area, and the Sound of Music and Elvis light shows. We stayed here for one night just over a week ago. We had our dog with us and prefer a king bed but the only pet friendly room available on that date was a queen economy. There was a photo of an economy queen room on the website and it looked fine, so I booked it. The room pictured was not the one we ended up with, lol. Our room was TINY, the smallest motel room we've ever seen. I was actually shocked when I opened the door. It was so small that our bags did not all fit in the bedroom area, so my husband stored his bag in the bathroom, which was actually good sized. Old, dated, ugly, but roomy. There was a nightstand on only one side of the bed because if there had been one on the opposite side it would have blocked the doorway to the bathroom. Yep, that's how wide the room was - an itty bitty nightstand, a queen bed, and a doorway. That's it. It looks like there were some nicer rooms than what we ended up with, and there has to be based on the reviews. We were in what looked like an older part of the motel, the ocean view buildings appeared to have been added much later, and I'm guessing all the people giving good reviews stayed over there. Even so, we will never stop here again, and could not wait to leave in the morning. Brookings is only about a half hour further down the road so next time we'll just drive on through Gold Beach. read more

There are some hotels that meet your basic needs, but Pacific Reef was a place that was hard to leave. My next statement is crucial... make sure you reserve a room or condo in the new building. When you pull in the entrance, Pacific Reef looks like a simple motor lodge. But back in 2007, they constructed a new building closer to South Beach Park and the ocean that is a mix of hotel rooms and condos. My parents stayed in one of the rooms a few months ago and based on their recommendation I reserved a condo and couldn't have been happier. The reservation system is like a B&B where you choose a particular unit in that building. So I didn't have to worry about checking in late and getting the worst room in the house. I knew exactly what I was getting. The condo interior was like a high end model home. Living area with a couch that converts to a sleeper sofa, flat screen TV, full kitchen with marble counters and a laundry room. A large bedroom suite with a balcony was upstairs and we slept like babies. The condos have different configurations, but at this time no condos have additional beds for kids. Unfortunately there is no pool, just an indoor spa. But you have a relatively short walk to the beach and we had a fantastic time playing in the surf, hunting for shells and making fortresses out of driftwood until sunset. Breakfast is included and served in a relatively stark meeting room. In addition to cereal and yogurt, juice and coffee, they have Krispy Kreme donuts. Nice surprise for the kids. When checking out the owner went to great lengths asking about our visit and really wanted to know what more they could do to improve our experience. So our visit was positive from start to finish. We will most certainly return. read more

First time here, we used to stay at Irelands, but that place went downhill. Had a second story room, the first one we were given still had tools and work going on in the bathroom! Second room was okay, it was clean, but there are stains in the carpet. Beds were alright. Had a porch with rockers with a view of the ocean. The show at night is okay, we've been to Oregon many times so it was nothing new. What I didn't like was how the sound went up with mamma Mia preview. Closed the drapes and doors for that. The grab and go is OJ and fruit cocktail, not much. Overall it was quiet, nice views, but older in need of upgrades. The public hot tub was nice. Would we stay there again. Probably not. read more

Not going to lie I'm really disappointed in this place... 1st issue was they don't have parking for a truck and trailer. I called and called finally got someone and she said we should have plenty of room to park my boat and pickup... That was NOT the case. She told me to park in a no overnight parking lot next door.. (ended up asking someone to move and found a way to park along the curb) poles and various other gear was stolen from inside my boat... 2nd issue... We paid over 800 bucks for a room w a tub.. the tub was small (my 135lb lady sadly couldn't take a bath as it was just to small).. The bed felt like it had really high miles and was super uncomfortable. Room had stains on the carpets ect... 3rd issue. Was in "condo" rooms that overlooked the water.. many drug users staying during our stay... at one point I was woken up on night one by someone constantly coughing/clearing his throat. This wasn't once or twice this went on non stop from 2:30am-6:45am.. (to find out it was the manager in the upstairs room right next door) the second night I lost my shit and said something to him... I was so pissed I could of knocked him out just so we both could get sleep... 5th issue... I complained to front desk for nothing to be done.. I told her to tell her manager (she said that was him that was coughing) night two when I asked him if he needed water and he should shut the fuck up and be courteous to the guests. Wonder if at any point it crossed his mind to not stay up all night and do whatever recreational party items he decided to partake in... probably not.. requested a refund got 123 dollars back.. so two night 700 and some change.... Wouldn't recommend. After I saw someone smoking meth openly in the parking lot on a red golf cart that should have been my Q to leave.... Never again will I stay or recommend this place to anyone... spoke to the chamber and made a few other complaints. Will share my story all over the internet of this place. read more

Oh Yelpers, you've let me down on this one. Who could stay at a lovely location overlooking the ocean, and have a perfect sunset loudly punctuated by what has to be the most dumb@@@ idea ever, a movie screen and loud terrible music, and think "yeah, what a great idea, everyone wants to listen to loud techno pop music as the sun sets" without immediately shouting "NO ONE DOES!!!". What is the movie about? Why, the very motel that we're staying in! Oh, please make it louder! Aside from the aforementioned pop concert to end the day (will it never end?), the room does have a balcony overlooking the, um, movie screen and, somewhere back there, the ocean. There is just barely internet access here (measured 0.35 Mbps when it connects at all). Electrical outlets are hidden behind the furniture. The two chairs in the room are completely worn out and near collapse. The mattress is worn. No breakfast. Tour buses. They must cater to tour buses. We're paying $189 on Memorial Day Monday. I don't know what to say about Gold Beach. I really don't. read more

I'll start by saying we've thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Gold Beach. This review and rating is specifically for their economy room 100. We did not think it was too small, ample space for luggage and food, walking around room, though the bathroom is tiny with door swinging inward making it feel even smaller. POSITIVES: Close to everything, access to private beach about a 1/4 mi walk from lobby, prepackaged breakfast bags with small coffee/tea selections in lobby, clean enough, pet friendy, dog towels to bathe pooch, starbucks coffee in rooms, decent cable, free wifi, indoor hot tub until 9:30pm, no carpet in room so no funky smells, hanging space and dresser for clothes. NEGATIVES: We noted we are light sleepers while booking. This room is *LOUD* from highway road noise, check ins, and employee corridor next door had constant bangs and thuds from early am well into the night, pipes and bangs next door are loud, bathroom fan sounds like a small generator, breakfast bag could use something fresh like a banana, room had some ants they sprayed for, bed was definitely economy and has little squares for pillows. They must know it's extremely loud because they have a white noise machine on the nightstand, we brought 2 of our own as well and it's still very loud, avoid the early 100s rooms if you are a light sleeper. Welcome to room 3b.. $280.00 for a night stay in filth.. my mother had flown in from AZ to give my children a beautiful experience on the beach. This is what we walked into.. wet, stained, don't care furniture, bugs, holes, smeg on the walls, stains on the bedding , lumps in the mattresses disgusting hotel room. They were completely booked so no changing of the room after I spoke with them. We had a patio that we could not even open the slider door to hear the ocean due to the smokers next door. I asked the front desk to advise the neighbors of the smoking and nothing was done. The fair was setting up next door so all we heard all night was generators and banging.. no fault of hotel just bad timing. I asked the front desk to kindly refund some of her money for the stay.. $280.00 for a horrible run down hotel room.. they offered 10% and I asked for 25.00 more off. They agreed but still have not gotten that refund.. So sad that this property is taking care off this way. Could be fantastic with some pride of ownership.. still waiting for the refund... The one star is for the front office staff being kind.. other than that I have really nothing else to say then I am saddened that they would provide this quality at such a cost to my mother and her gift to her grandchildren for a beach stay. read more

We stayed in the cottage which is located away from the hotel and is the closest room to the water. While we loved the location and the extremely friendly staff, the room had a lot of spider webs and overall seemed a little run down. We love staying in rustic cabins but based on the price we thought it would be a little nicer of a cottage. There is no air conditioning which was slightly uncomfortable when we first arrived to our room at 6pm however after opening the windows it cooled down and was nice to hear the ocean waves during the night. It was also really nice that the cottage was dog friendly and it was only a minimal dog fee per night ($20). The highlight was definitely the location though! We were able to walk down to the beach at night to watch the sunset and it was such a relaxing even walking along the beach. Overall, a decent stay for the location. read more

I booked a view room and its a good value for the money. You can see the waves breaking right from the room balcony and we got some nice afternoon sun. I'm not a fan of the evening movie entertainment, however. When I book an ocean view room I want to see and hear the ocean, not a movie that I could watch at home. read more

The light show was more about advertising local businesses and playing 5 Elvis songs on a projector. Breakfast was a bag of orange juice, fruit cup and granola bar. Its great this place is dog friendly, but all day and night we had dogs to all sides of us barking non stop. Couldn't call down to front desk to have them address the issue because they close at 10 pm. Had high hopes. read more

Not fancy, but clean! Comfy bed & good pillows. Great access to the beach. I'd stY there again.

They have an easy after-hours check in. I stayed in the deluxe king room, 222.... the TV's door was broken buttttt I was here for the view and it surely didn't disappoint! The light show started at 9 and was pretty neat! Not super loud but decent enough to hear it over the storm rolling through. Easy access to the beach by a pathway, and close proximity to The Chowder House or Spinners (SO TASTY!) with a gas station right across the street. The room itself was clean. A simple table and chairs, a few dressers and a nice patio set... definitely where I spent my time! The bathroom was generic, but clean, which is important. It's an older hotel but seems to have been well maintained. This will absolutely be my spot next trip through Gold Beach! read more
