As all regulars know, this place used to be called Ocean Pacific years ago, they closed down and reopened it as Pacificana (with same owners and management). I have been coming here since I was a little girl, for over 20 years. And since my family frequents this place, we never have to wait on line and we get complimentary tea. We get to cut the 1-2 hour long wait for dim sum, which is a main reason we still come here. Dim sum is good here. This is probably one of the most popular dim sum places around the area along with East Harbor, so the wait is super long on weekend mornings. Make sure you get a number from the lady on the second floor next to podium and expect to wait amongst a crowd of hungry people by the staircase. (Thank goodness I never have to wait.) I personally like their congee, tripe/pig stomach combo, mini egg tarts, and their suckling pig with jelly fish (yum). The rest of the stuff I don't know how to say in English... Go figure. Dim sum hasn't really changed much throughout these years, they did add more items to their menu and increased the prices since they reopened. I don't recommend coming here for dinner on a holiday however because they tend to be really packed (especially on Chinese New Year) - they are very short staffed and the food takes forever to come. But if you do want to come, be sure to make reservations and expect to wait an hr for your food. Dinner on any other day should be pretty empty and service is much better. read more

My girlfriend suggested this place for brunch. Her last experience was great. However, this time around we both agreed that this location is no longer worth a visit. The food was not tasty and the serving size is extremely small. I would say its half the size of the portion compared to Chinatown and Flushing. The food was bland and I was very disappointed. Point: be wise and arrive early. I've been to tons of dim sum places back in Canada, but had yet to try one in NYC. Pacificana brings out the dim sum in carts, so if a cart doesn't pass by your table, you won't get to eat. As you can imagine, if you are seated at a corner, or super far away from the kitchen, or the restaurant is packed... food carts may not come by as often (and in fact, it is a major problem that I've read on Yelp reviews). That said, we had no problems with food carts coming around - we arrived early, at 930am, when the restaurant wasn't busy and had a great table location. Tons of food carts came by and I really liked the selection! They even have the white cold chicken feet (don't know what it's called, don't judge me) that most dim sum places don't offer!! Food ranged from average to amazing. By 1045am, this restaurant was packed, loud, and the line to get in was ridiculous. I came here today early morning around 11. I had a party of three including myself and were seated pretty quickly. I really like that they had a table that seats 4 people, that way we had a bit more privacy compared to sharing a table with another party. Compared to other dim sum places, I felt that there were very little options. To get some dishes you would have to go to the back to ask for it, which was interesting. Also, we were told that common dim sum items were sold out, such as gnou churn and cha siu churn. The few dishes that we tried weren't that good. For example, the liu sa bao was more dough than actual filling. The food was also not that warm when we order it. It seems that the dishes aren't kept warm in the carts or in the back. Overall, very disappointing dim sum experience. Would not recommend coming here. read more

Solid dim sum place with a few interesting dishes. The place is large, but not massive, and at around 12 noon on a Saturday our wait for a table for two was no more than a couple of minutes. Apart from dim sum staples such as har gau, rolled rice noodle with shrimp, chiu-chao fan guo, siu mai, etc... there were 2 dishes that I've never had before: - soft tofu with pork in the middle. - a gigantic, yellow dumpling the size of a baseball, filled with mushrooms, cabbage, pork and vermicelli noodles, that came in a small bowl with soup. Also, they had fried soft shell crabs, which were as plump as they were delicious. Overall I was pretty happy with the selection, quality, and price. I can't compare it to any of the dim sum places along 8th Ave., since this is the one and only I tried, but I would put Pacificana one step below nearby East Harbor Seafood Palace. 3.5 stars. read more

I came here a few weeks ago for dim sum, on a Sunday morning. With the hoards of Chinese people waiting to be seated, I figured it was a hot spot for dim sum. After about 45 minutes of waiting, we finally were seated. My mom said the more people you have, the longer you'd have to wait for a table. Figures, since let's say, if you have a party of four, they would probably put you at another occupied, but not filled table. As soon as we sat down at the table, a lady immediately placed a dish on our table. Wtf, we didn't ask for it. We said no thanks. Throughout the meal, ladies would place the plate on the table then ask if we want it. I found that annoying. They're trying to make a bigger sale by pushing dishes to customers. We also were sat in a side room, by the main room, so we didn't really get to see all their dishes. When we were done, and already paid, we saw a dish that my sis-in-law liked. The food was okay. I didn't enjoy the chicken feet, which was unfortunate. It was a good experience though. When one of the head waitress found out that our family was from the same village as where she's from, she treated us extra nice and giving our table more attention. read more

After all of the excellent reviews of Pacificana, I just had to wake up at 7:00AM on a freaking Saturday, ride on the N train for an hour, and finally arrive during a time in the morning where the dining hall is still full, but you do not have to wait two hours to be seated. The atmosphere is very clean and new. There are enough 4 seater tables in the aisles that you do not have to sit with angry strangers making obnoxious facial scenes at you while you are trying to eat. They open on the weekends at 8:00AM, and I am assuming that there are people outside the door when they open. However, on top of all of this excellent service and kind waitresses- the food is lacking. You have your choice of minced assortment of meats/innards, glutinious noodles, or gelatin substances. Want some vegetables to cut the grease and jigglies? Good luck! Unless you get here after 11:00AM there are no veggies available for you. And, if you do arrive after 11:00AM expect a two hour wait. Beware of anything other than your standard tiny plates, because they will cost you, and I mean COST you. We grabbed a plate of pork-like substances under crispy pork skin that cost us $15 for a tiny plate. It was only slightly decent and was not fresh. Why are they so crowded? Well, I must be missing something... But, I looked over all of the items thoroughly and did not miss a thing when making my ordering choices. My husband and I left somewhat grossed out and not even full for $36, not including tip. And, we have been eating dim sum all over the place for the past five years every weekend- not new to the experience. I am *considering* coming back here one day for dinner, but that will probably never happen. Growing up in a Chinese family, your taste buds are prone to all the delicious authentic Chinese food ranging from black bean spare ribs to fish stomach soup. Rarely do I find myself 'wow-ed' or even able to compare it to that kind of caliber... that is...until Sunday night at Pacificana. I've been here three times: wedding, baby shower and now, the baby's 100 day event. Our party took up the entire floor and we had the works: red table clothes, balloons, perfectly aligned silverware and open bar. The event had the usual 8-10 course banquet style dinner and each dish got better and better. Lobster was huge! Shark fin soup (although I don't support it) was delicious. The best dish, hands down, was the shrimp with mayo. It was crispy, cooked to perfection and it wasn't soggy at all. Normally, I don't have high expectations for waiter service at these places but ours was polite, nice, humble and skillful with great finesse. My first time to Brooklyn Chinatown was for the pure purpose of dining here for dim sum. The wait was pretty hefty but that could be due to the size of group I was with (7 people). The carts come around quite frequently and there are plenty of service staff around for any of your requests and needs. Food quality wise it certainly rivals some of the best dim sum joints in Flushing and I would say it absolutely blows away anything offered in Manhattan Chinatown. Through no fault of their own, it is a bit of an annoyance to get to. It's pretty much situated in the middle of the long stretch of 8th ave meaning walking through the crowd to get here can be EXTREMELY frustrating. I'd highly recommend taking the $2.50 shuttle that runs between Manhattan Chinatown, Flushing, and Brooklyn Chinatown to get yourself out there. read more

By the time I arrived embarassing very late for my Meetup Dim Sum gathering, there were not many carts which was approx. 2:30pm. The food did not appeared fresh. Better experience than NY Mott. Venturing around Brooklyn, I stumbled into this comfortable "Cantonese" dim sum place. Reminds me a lot of San Francisco style mid-range Dim Sum place ala. Ton Kiang off Geary but twice as big. Overall experience was comfortable. Good Shu Mai, Har Gao, Rice Rolls, Chicken Feet, and egg tart was decent above avg. No, they don't have ducks and chickens hanging in the window, but they're on the 2nd floor. Elevator or stairs, your choice. Parking is downstairs and it was only $4 with validation. Pacificana has been the go to spot for the family since I can remember. It was the place for dim sum, for family dinners, for weddings and all. The place just hits a spot in my heart from the two remodels that they have done as I've aged. The most recent is turning the traditional Chinese red theme to being an all white luxury restaurant, removing the fish tanks which I think is a big plus. Since the recent remodel, the restaurant has been more creative with their dishes, bringing cute eats and new flavors. I am a big fan of having dim sum here with the family or a small dinner where our family blocks out a section of the restaurant because we just aren't that small. Pacificana offers private rooms for dinner parties, sections of the restaurant or even a full booking for weddings. It is definitely one of the local favorites! read more

We tried this Dim Dum for second, first we tried East Harbor which had a bit better reviews in Yelp. But I liked Pacificana best, they have more dumplings to choose, the place is a bit smaller and service was very kind and helpful to us. Price is also ok. And they have a parking nextdoor, 6$ for 2 hours if you eat at Pacificana (dim sum is usually fast if you are 2, so you can even take a walk and use the 2 hours) Next time we will try some dishes from the menu, and maybe go for dinner too. I'm very disappointed at this place because of this one customer service that I got. I order a cup of water and I got a cup that seem reuseable from a chicken place restaurant in a chinese restaurant. That one staff who didn't gave me a glass of water because it seemed to me that he was just lazy and grabbed anything just so that he can finish his job quicker. I quickly lost my appetite because of this one customer services because it gave me doubt about this restaurant quality. The interior is like any other dim sum restaurant in 8th avenue Chinatown. Ladies pushing the carts around with steaming fresh dim sum. The dim sum are pretty good here. They have specialty dishes that you wouldn't see at other dim sum places. For example, the staff are going around serving snails, lobster salad, and jellyfish as dim sum dishes. On weekdays the place still has good business, but you will definitely a get a table a lot quicker than on the crazy crowded weekends, holidays, school closing days.
