When I came across Akamai, I called and they not only had cars available, they were reasonably priced, and the costumer service was outstanding. I couldn't figure out how to get my phone connected to the navigation system after awhile and Jon helped me and called someone else to also get extra help and got me all setup. Reservation, pick up, and drop off was seamless and they offered to let me park or overnight if needed. The car was clean, newer, and in great shape. I would highly recommend! Price for the day is totally fair considering you get to use it all day and return it at any time. Not every rental car company allows after-hours returns, this one does. They also provide 2 car garages where you can park for free if you need to. We didn't need to, but it's a convenient perk. Otherwise you might be paying high nightly parking fees at your resort. We ended up with a clean, new Corolla and found it very comfortable. 5 stars!

5 stars to Discount Hawaii. Zero stars to Thrifty…read more Rented a vehicle from Thrifty via DH on Kauai. Picked up the car in the morning and returned it the same evening. Handed keys to an employee at Thrifty. 3 days later (was on a cruise) I checked my credit card and had pending charges totaling $574 from Thrifty, they had never closed out the contract and were applying additional $100 charges each day. I tried calling Thrifty at every number I could find for them. Their automated phone system had no options for an issue like mine and no option would allow me to reach a person, it kept instructing me to use their website form. Tried submitting their web form several times and would receive the message that there was a problem uploading the form and instructed me to call their 800 number (one of those that I had already tried several times. Called Discount Hawaii and reached Tammy in about 2 minutes. She was super nice and very sympathetic. After I explained my issue, she told me to relax and enjoy the rest of my cruise and she would handle Thrifty. 15 minutes later I received a final invoice from Thrifty and shortly after a message from Discount Hawaii apologizing about the issue I experienced along with a copy of their communication with Thrifty. I, of course, immediately called Discount Hawaii back to tell Tammy thank you. Tammy and Discount Hawaii rock! I cannot recommend them enough, although I suggest that you do not select a vehicle from Thrifty as there is no way to reach them if you have an issue.

All of their employees as super nice, helpful, and friendly! They all seem really happy working for this company and that is a joy to see. Justin was the employee I spoke with and he was super nice. They are located in Mapunapuna near Fisher Hawai'i. Don't blink or you'll miss the turn into their driveway! There are lots of vehicles to rent, so if you're ever in need of a rental--- visit them! We had a mishap with the key fob not working while we were at the beach on the east side of the…read moreisland. When we realized it wasn't working, we immediately opened up the fob and found old looking corrosion inside around the battery area. We put a new battery in it and left it open to dry out (if moisture had gotten in it). After troubleshooting to no avail, I called the company and they sent someone out charging a $75 "roadside assistance fee" where a representative brought out a spare key fob. Unfortunately, the replacement fob did not start the car (or even unlock/lock the car). The representative was friendly, but not knowledgeable on other troubleshooting steps to get us back on the road. With the replacement fob taken apart (to swap/replace the battery) the original fob eventually started the car. We even tested it further by turning off and on the car a few times to make sure the old fob was working again. We then drove the vehicle to our next destination, and when we went to leave the car wouldn't start again... we made the most of it and had dinner while further drying out the original fob to see if that would help. In the meantime the company sent a replacement vehicle (at no additional charge). When the rep went to start the original car, it stated right away. The following day, I received a voicemail to go over the additional replacement fob and roadside assistance charges. The voicemail said to reference the email and/or call back for questions. I never received the email after 10 minutes of checking, and then I got a large credit card notification; $350 for the damaged key and $75 for the roadside assistance. I didn't appreciate being charged without being talked to first. When I immediately called back to politely ask some clarifying questions, the person on the phone was very rude and raised his voice to me and my wife. Given that the original fob appeared to have prior water damage and the fact that it did start the car (after drying out, replacing the battery) it was disappointing to be charged $425 for something that may, or may not, have been our fault. And to then be yelled at for asking questions. At the end of the day, the whole ordeal cost us valuable vacation time, added stress, and drastically altered our plans. The car rental itself was affordable but the first car we ended up with was older and a little dingy.

Returning the car was a little confusing since I did not know where the office inside the Marriott was. Not only is this rental car much closer to the Cutter Dodge dealership, but the service was OUTSTANDING!!!! Upon walking into the rental car agency, the friendly clerk greeted me & processed my rental within 5 minutes. I was totally stunned at how efficient she did this, and upon having me sign a few electronic papers, she then told me to go into an elevator & head up to the "L' floor of the garage. Upon heading up to the "L" floor (or top floor of the garage), another clerk had my vehicle ready, and upon doing a quick look around the vehicle, I just jumped in, and took off. Easy peasy my friends!!! When I returned the rental today, I didn't even need to go into the Enterprise office, as the clerk who processed my eental vehicle return in the garage, did all of the closing of the tab. To top it off, the staff even gave me a ride back to the Cutter Dodge dealership! There's something to be said of great service.........that's how you keep loyal customers! The other rental car business at the ilikai hotel could learn a thing or two about what great service is!

At drop off, park at the designated parking spots, take the keys to the office and they will check the car out while you wait in the office. Definitely using them again!

Alamo did not have a line when I got there and I had a very pleasant time with Lexi. She and the other staff were friendly, bright, and all around a hoot to talk to and check-in with, they made the experience great. Checking-in was easy! Their screen is touchscreen so you can sign with your finger. The car: we went up the escalators and we were able to choose between a 4Runner and a Volkswagen. We chose the 4Runner for more trunk space. Car was spacious and we got out of the garage easily. The car came with a full tank of gas. I did not pump gas prior to returning the car due to lack of time and poor planning on my part. We were close to almost a half tank when I returned it. Alamo charged me $44 for the gas which I found fair. I would definitely book with Alamo again the next time I want to get a car rental in Oahu!

Rain charged $60 per day.He dropped the car off at our hotel, as soon as we were available. The car was a Toyata RAV4, which was an eco friendly car, this saved us so much money on gas. The car was very clean, as it still had that new car smell, windows were tinted which made me feel safe leaving my bags in the car if needed. You're able to connect to CarPlay very easily to listen to your music or have your navigation right in front of you. Return process was very easy. He does require you fill up the tank before you return the car, which is typical, refilling the tank only cost us $17 after driving all around the north shore. He offers two different options on returning the car, he can come pick up. Or you drop off and he offers a ride back to hotel. We were passing by the area to drop the car off so we went with the drop off option. If you want to support local business this is the place you need to look at! In the end, Cheap Rent A Car was the clear winner! I was hesitant at first because some of the reviews had really bad economy cars, but I took a chance and set my expectations really low. To get a quote, simply fill out the questionnaire and Richard will get back to you quickly, same day or next business day. You can also call and he can give you a quote quickly. I am 24, turning 25 in May, so a lot of the other places were up-charging significantly for the young rider fee. Although I did not get the breakout of the underage fee, the inclusive price was still better than every other competitor. My questionnaire: 19 day economy rental, during peak season (mid-Dec to early Jan).
