I would not recommend this place because they recommended to remove a healthy tree instead of trim it and told me it wasn't healthy . I went with another company and they pruned the tree and it is now healthy . read more

Please do yourself a favor and find another arborist with good ratings. I have a beautiful old valley oak tree in my yard, and one Saturday night two large branches just broke off. I was frantic because I didn't know if the whole tree was going to come down on our house. So I messaged several tree companies on Yelp, and John was the only one who was willing to come out on a Sunday. That was amazing, and I was happy. He cleaned up some of the wood and said he'd be back on Monday. On Monday he called and said he couldn't make it, but he'd come back on Tuesday. I was ok with that, and on Tuesday he came and did some trimming. I was happy when he left because I no longer feared the tree would come down on my house. That happiness lasted until my pool maintenance guy discovered that a pipe on my pool pump had been broken completely off. I called John and told him, and he said it couldn't have been him because he would have noticed if he dropped a branch on my pump and broke it. But he couldn't come up with any other reason that a 4-inch pipe suddenly broke off the pump after his visit. In addition, one of the branches that he cut off was right above the pool equipment, the gutter on the roof was bent right above the pool equipment, he left several large (sawed, not broken) branches in the backyard by the pool equipment, and the guys who were doing some roofing across the street said he never roped anything off. He was just letting the branches fall. If you believe it was just a coincidence that my pool pump happened to break completely after his visit, then feel free to hire him. But if you hop over to Google reviews, you'll find another person who had a similar experience with him dropping large branches and damaging their property. If you read these Yelp reviews, you'll see there's someone who gave him a one-star review because he got irate after being asked about his license. I WISH I had asked that question. I started researching the company after he broke the pool pump and refused to pay. I discovered that Pacific Crest Arborist USED to have a license in the City of Folsom under another guy's name. Apparently Pacific Crest Arborist used to be run by two guys, John Cole and David Powell. Powell seems to have broken away to start his own company, and he has good reviews here on Yelp. If you look at the reviews here and on Facebook, you'll also see the name David mentioned in the positive reviews. But if you look at the recent negative reviews, you'll notice that John is singled out as the person that is neither reliable nor professional. Apparently he is trying to skate by on the positive reviews left by people who hired Pacific Crest Arborist when there were two people in the company. Powell is the one who is a certified arborist and is good at his job. Cole (at least at the time of this writing) is not a certified arborist at all, which you can verify here: https://www.treesaregood.org/findanarborist I sent Cole the estimate to repair the pump before it was fixed. I sent him the bill after it was fixed. I sent him photos and videos of the damage and of the large tree branches he left in my backyard. I asked him to pay for the damage. He kept putting me off and saying he'd do something, but he never did anything. After more than a month of being put off, I've decided the only way to recoup my loss is to take him to small claims court. I've never had to sue anyone, and I really don't want the hassle of going to court. But this is no way to run a business. Everyone makes mistakes, and if he accidentally dropped a tree on my pool pump, and broke it, I wouldn't have written a bad review if he had taken responsibility and paid for it. Instead, he has avoided me and avoided responsibility. Please do yourself a favor and don't hire this guy. read more

Frigging awesome job by two very cool guys. Fair pricing, punctual, polite and great at what they do. My neighbors hired them right on the spot after seeing what a great job they were doing. I will definitely call them again if I need any other trees removed. read more

If you are thinking about hiring John Cole of Pacific Crest Arborists (PCA), DON'T DO IT!! Back in February 2019, we had noticed that our trees were dying. We searched for an Arborist online. We called about 7 different Arborists close to our home. John Cole of PCA responded and came to our home within an hour of our call. At first impression, he appeared friendly and knowledgeable. I needed two weeks to gather the money to cover the cost of the tree replacement. During that two weeks, John Cole's unethical and deceptive actions confirmed for us that we should not hire him. Examples of John Cole's unethical actions are: * Advertising online and on his truck that Pacific Crest Arborists are Arborists when, in fact, John Cole is not a certified Arborist. From what I was told, his former partner was the Arborist, not John Cole. * Stating that he is a contractor when the City of Folsom and business licensing authorities confirmed that he is not a licensed contractor. * Performing work on our property without our permission and refusing to give us a written estimate for his services. Examples of John Cole's deceptive actions are: * Insisting that we give him a "small" deposit to hold trees at a nursery. When I contacted that same nursery, they confirmed that he never gave them a deposit. In fact, the nursery's contracting staff informed me that they don't hold small deposits for large tree purchases. As of this writing, John Cole has not returned our deposit after numerous requests. * Giving us a diagnosis that our trees were dying because of beetles, when in fact they were dying because the trees were not getting watered properly. * On one visit, he pointed out a tree stating it was dying, and two days later insisted that whatever was killing the tree had progressed further, when the tree in question looked the same. * Visiting our property unannounced and leaving a load of tree trimmings from another individual's property. Then making excuses as to why he cannot remove the tree trimmings. * Piggy backing off of positive Yelp reviews for PCA (when PCA originally consisted of John Cole and his former partner before their split about a year ago), to downplay the negative reviews he was given after he and his partner split. In the end, I felt conned. I am now in the process of suing John Cole with Pacific Crest Arborists for failing to return our deposit, the cost of replacing the trees he cut without our approval, and the cost of removing the load of tree trimmings he left on our property. read more

I contacted Pacific Crest Arborist for removal of a red wood tree. I spoke with John who is extremely professional and sincere in wanting to help me. Within an hour of calling without appointment he came to my house to give me an estimate. Then the next day John and David came back and completely removed the red wood tree. This was done very efficiently and quickly. Not only did he come in an extremely timely matter he gave me a professional opinion and continued to provide me with knowledge of my surrounding trees and shrubs. They also noticed my other tree was over growing and they cleaned it up free of charge. I would highly recommend Pacific Crest Arborist to family, friends, neighbors, and co workers. John Cole the owner of PCA is extremely unprofessional. After I asked for proof of a business lic. and insurance everything changed. The times he said he would be out and didnt make it there was an excuse, most of the time there was no response at all. Extremely unreliable!! Definitely not a man of his word. I highly recommend Pacific Crest Arborist. I messaged them requesting a estimate on chipping and stump grinding for 6 birch trees that we had taken out. David was super responsive and was able to come out the same day with John and the rest of the crew. Pricing was great, the work was quick and included clean up which made me super happy. I made 5 different appointments with John to have some trees pruned. He had a good price for the job, but he never showed up to any appts. after the initial estimate. He only called to cancel once, and that was 10 minutes before the job was to begin. Very unprofessional, left me waiting, didn't seem to care. read more

Great service. My trees look great. These trees were huge. They came in cleaned them up without any damage. They were timely in returning my call, giving me a quote, and service appointment. They were not cheap nor were they the most expensive. It was a fair price for the amazing job they did. read more
