Pork Belly Tacos

It was tasty and definitely worth the might however I feel there may be better options for the price point and general experience in the area. I loved the food items we ordered but felt like they were all very one-note in terms of flavor Great night club! Awesome for a quick happy hour!

We didn't eat we just had couple of drinks. Sangria was good. İ took White one. The server was kind. Place was colorful and cute... For lunch menu there was a quesadilla, sandwiches, bowls,, burittos... but we didn't try!

Lots of options on the menu. We chose to do family style and share a bunch of appetizers and the paella. When split with a bunch of people it's easy to enjoy many plates. Service was prompt and the staff were kind and attentive. We were seated upstairs, my only complaint is that it was super cold and there was a draft. Note: Not a handicap friendly location, with steps to enter.

Came here after previously having walked by in the past. Decided to get drinks and some appetizers one night just for fun. The outdoor seating is decent and on a busy street in the city. The food and drinks are pretty good and the service was fine as well. It's a bit pricey but a nice change for a date night. I got a mai tai cocktail and hubby got a beer. For apps/tapas we got the steak tacos, croquettes and quesadilla. All pretty good but small of course lol.

Mmmm Pacifico! Great drinks, a huge menu with tons of delicious food. We sat outside and the breeze was perfect on this hot day. I had the skirt steak with a side of fried rice. Perfectly filling and we never felt like we were waiting for service. All staff were great and prompt. Definitely worth a revisit.

Ceviche

The Ceviche here is sooo good ! The only thing is I wish it came with more chips. I am a regular at Pacifico and everytime I go the service is always great & the vibes and music are up. This is downtown so I normally take the shuttle to avoid the parallel parking. When the weather is nice outside this is a perfect place to eat outside and enjoy the city vibes.

Stepping into Pacifico Restaurant left me feeling carried away to a Mediterranean location. My eyes were immediately drawn to the stunning coastal blue mosaic of tiles behind the bar and decor combinations of colors and materials. My martini was served in a tall v-shaped cocktail glass. It was mixed swiftly so it was cold but not watered down. The olives were very firm and offered an adequate flavor. The calamari appetizer was light, flaky, and well-seasoned. It was served with an aioli dipping sauce that was a tad too spicy for my palate. Another highlight was the incredibly fast service and cordial bartender. Overall this was a comfortable and spacious spot positioned above street level that provided excellent people-watching, uniquely fresh fare, and sufficiently good beverages. Quaint corner of the block restaurant. I dined outside to take in the sights and sounds of New Haven. Only in town 48 hours so it was cool to see Yale and handle some work duties I ordered two drinks, both were delicious. The 2nd drink definitely gave me a buzz. lol. I started with the empanadas. They were served with a cold tomato based sauce. Not bad but not good. It's missing something like seasoning or acid. Maybe onion? I also ordered the red sauce mussels. Delicious!! Great broth nicely flavored and made the dish so yummy! Definitely would come back!

Salmon tartar

I came in for Restaurant Week and just about had to be rolled out the door! I caught the tail end of happy hour, so I started with a mojito and a couple of oysters, both of which were quite nice. The mojito may well be the best in New Haven, as they claim, but it would be even better if they used granulated sugar or demerara instead of simple syrup. Still, very yummy! For the first course of the prix fixe I did the salmon tartar, which was very interesting. There's mustard and capers mixed in with the salmon, which gave a nice zip that went great with the avocado. I could also have eaten an entire bowl of the potato and plantain chips! Second course was the lomo saltado, which had a lot going for it. Putting the fries on top kept them nice and crispy, and the fried egg with the perfectly cooked rice was lovely. The meat and veggies were also super tender. My only complaint was that I like my saltado saucy, and this was pretty dry, so there wasn't much for the rice and fries to soak up. Still good, but could be better. Dessert was the passionfruit flan, and it was so good I almost gave five stars just for that. It was tangy without being too sour, and the whipped cream cut the acid perfectly. I have no notes--I'll literally probably come back just for dessert!

The food and service was excellent. Please stop by and have David take care of you. His personality and service is chefs kiss! The food amazing.

Came here for a birthday dinner, and had a great experience. The entrees were great. Would like to come back to try more of the tapas. Prices were what I'd expect.

Vinas Wine & Tapas - Empanaditas flanked by calamares

The ceviche was excellent, everything was cooked throughout by the citrus. The portion size is small for $19 and it could have used a side of bread or tortillas to soak up the delicious citrus based broth. The skewers were also excellent. They were cooked perfectly, super tender, juicy and flavorful. They cooked them with a seasoning and had a delicious chimi on top.

In a display of restaurant solidarity , they recommended that we try Vinas Wine & Tapas. As it turned out, we have a NEW favorite in New Haven! We arrived a bit early and were cheerfully greeted by Mike G, our server. The atmosphere was welcoming and relatively quiet, since their musical offering does not start as early as our 5:00-7:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday. We had asked for the waiter Christian because he had been mentioned in several of the Yelp reviews, but Mike proved that the service compliments should go to everyone. First, the tapas: We enjoyed all five of the tapas we chose. The "Calamares" were lightly battered and crispy. The Vinas salad was fresh, with tomatoes, cheese, corn, and croutons. The pork belly was delicious and more meaty than expected . The oyster mushrooms were presented with onion crisps. The baked birria empanada was stuffed with brisket style beef. Each of these "courses" was a unique delight to the palate, and for me and my partner, it was completely satisfying. In keeping with the spirit of a "wine bar," Vinas offered a flight of 4 wines in 3 ounce glasses, and after hearing about our food choices and wine preferences, Mike chose the wines for us, giving us a chance to taste some less familiar offerings. We had the Felino Malbec 2024 (Argentina), which became our favorite for its full-bodied and deep flavor. Our second wine was a unique Don Abel (private label) from Wallingford CT, made by one of the relatives of the owner, specially for Vinas. This one reminded us of the local wines one might receive in a B&B in the Loire Valley in France. The final two wines were both from Chile: Reserva Carmenere 2023 and Cabernet Sauvignon Marques de Casa Concha 2022. Both were excellent wines. It was great fun to have Mike choose the wines for us, and we really enjoyed the variety that the flight offerings gave to us. Of course, we had to try a dessert, and Mike recommended the Toffee Cake. We had heard that the owner claimed that some people cried with joy after eating it. Although we restrained ourselves, we had to agree that this was an extraordinary conclusion to a fabulous meal. Overall, this was a great experience for us, and we heartily recommend Vinas Wine Bar and Tapas for a relaxing and welcoming dinner. Some reviews I had read suggested that the portions were too small for the price. I have to disagree. My partner and I love food, and this was plenty. And the price was reasonable. Including tip and tax, we spent about $75 each.

It was very quiet in the restaurant when we were there for lunch on a weekday. Maybe 3 other tables were occupied in addition to ours. Lobster bisque was hot though pretty liquid-y. The Brussels sprout salad was by no means a salad. More of a rice cake with Brussels shavings on too but really good. Calamari was okay. Mac and cheese was eh, really liquidy as well. I did really like the crispy mushroom risotto tater tots. They tasted just like tater tots. As we were getting to our last bites and still eating, at least three different staff members within a matter of a minute asked if we're were done and could take our plates away. I would have given this place four stars had we not been bombarded at the end of our dinner. It felt like we were being rushed out even though there were tons of tables and seats still available. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hachiroku Shokudo & Sake Bar - Mini Harasu Don

Hachiroku Shokudo & Sake Bar is a real find. Good Japanese food is hard enough to track down, and…read morefinding it in New Haven feels like a huge victory. Prices run a bit high, but the quality of the ingredients more than make up for it. The Jako Salad (4.5/5) is a favorite of mine. It perfectly mixes peppery arugula and crisp radish with a poached egg, fried baby anchovy, bonito flakes, and nori. The baby anchovy gives a sweet/salty crunch that tastes like my childhood. Every bite swings between fresh and umami in a really creative way. The harasu don (5/5) is pure richness in a rice bowl. Grilled salmon belly and salmon roe together are incredibly rich, almost to the edge of too much, but the warm rice underneath keeps it grounded and turns it into a perfect comfort dish. The giant octopus sashimi (4/5) is a great counterbalance, cleanly sliced with a firm, fresh bite that lightens things up. The fresh tofu with uni (5/5) might be my favorite plate. The tofu is ultra delicate, and the rich uni on top adds a briny depth. With the simple seasonings on the side, it's a savory panna cotta. If they ever did a dessert version with ginger syrup, I would be here daily. Sashimi here is excellent (5/5). You get a balanced mix of fatty cuts like otoro and leaner ones like akami, along with hamachi, katsuo, and octopus. The variety lets you move between clean and rich bites at your own pace. A side note. Every so often a piece of yamamomo shows up on the plate (small red berries), a little mountain peach that is sweet enough to outshine most desserts. It may just be a palette cleanser, but it is a personal 10/5 for me. So good! Both indoor and outdoor seating feel comfortable, and service was on point: kind, attentive, and well timed. Overall, this is a standout Japanese option that I would highly recommend if you're ever in New Haven.

Hachiroku was a highly anticipated place after being nominated for Restaurant of the Year in New…read moreHaven County for Connecticut Restaurant Association's annual Crazies awards so I had it on my list of must go to restaurants. I have also never been to a sake bar. Have to say....I was underwhelmed. We came in last Friday and apparently it was slow because Yale was off (according to our waiter). If a restaurant is good they should not be slow on a Friday night. We sat by the door on a cold night and there were two other couples practically on top of us. Rest of the seating are high tops against a wall by the bar or up the stairs on another level. We would have liked to sit upstairs but they were closing off that area. Menu was complex as the restaurant is authentic Japanese. Lots of beef options. Lots of Wagyu. I was hoping to be blown away by this restaurant trying something different. I was struggling trying to find something to order that sounded appetizing. I knew going in that this place was authentic Japanese but I don't know, nothing sounded great to me. I love mushrooms so I got the Mixed Kinoko Mushroom appetizer which was $15. To add scallops was another $8. Mushrooms were tasty. Scallops were not. $23 for a small dish. I also got the pork short ribs. Not a ton of meat on them, however, nice flavor. I was still hungry after this so I ordered a dessert which was the best part of the meal. They get some of their desserts from Hen & Heifer which is a well established place in Guilford. I got the Ube Panna cotta. Boyfriend got the Black cod Yu-an Yaki and upgraded to add the salad, pickles and rice for $3 more. The pickles were maybe two bites. Salad tasty but again, very small. He said the cod was just ok too. Very small portions and pricey for what you get. $30 for a mini sake flight. Not impressed with how it was served either. Small tasting glasses just placed on the table with no description. The server explained which was which, but I didn't remember. Not sure if he didn't care or this is how it's normally served, but if you go to a wine bar/brewery, they provide descriptions with flights usually written underneath the glass, or at least serve it in something. Not just tiny glasses placed on a table where you have no idea what you're having. Especially for $30! I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. As this is part of a newer restaurant group with a few different locations nearby in New Haven, we then went to their cocktail Lounge on crown street (116 Cocktail Bar) thinking it might be better, however we were equally disappointed. It was dead in there and the bartenders were miserable. They couldn't wait to get out of there. I have heard that their hand roll bar is very good (Handroll on State St). We have been to their Grocery Store called The Loop and it's cute. They have a brunch at the Grocery/Kitchen location that looks really good. They also have a wine lounge at The Loop that I'd like to try.
