We were looking forward to trying Pacifico for the first time, doubling as both dinner before a show a couple doors down and also celebrating New Haven Restaurant Week. We picked up pretty quickly that this was going to be a rough experience. We waited way too long after being seated to have anyone come over to our table. The manager must've taken notice, because he served our table rather than the other waitstaff. It then took nearly an hour for the appetizers to get to us, which were fine but not outstanding. My mom said that her chicken enchilada had way too many cartilage pieces that she had to spit out. Our entrees thankfully didn't take an hour to come out, but I definitely didn't love that the plate was swimming in blood from the steak and was all underneath the rice. We asked for the check when the entrees arrived to ensure we would get to our show on time, and we're glad we did. We never even got a water refill. Came here after previously having walked by in the past. Decided to get drinks and some appetizers one night just for fun. The outdoor seating is decent and on a busy street in the city. The food and drinks are pretty good and the service was fine as well. It's a bit pricey but a nice change for a date night. I got a mai tai cocktail and hubby got a beer. Stepping into Pacifico Restaurant left me feeling carried away to a Mediterranean location. My eyes were immediately drawn to the stunning coastal blue mosaic of tiles behind the bar and decor combinations of colors and materials. My martini was served in a tall v-shaped cocktail glass. It was mixed swiftly so it was cold but not watered down. The olives were very firm and offered an adequate flavor. The calamari appetizer was light, flaky, and well-seasoned. It was served with an aioli dipping sauce that was a tad too spicy for my palate. Another highlight was the incredibly fast service and cordial bartender. Overall this was a comfortable and spacious spot positioned above street level that provided excellent people-watching, uniquely fresh fare, and sufficiently good beverages. The Ceviche here is sooo good ! The only thing is I wish it came with more chips. I am a regular at Pacifico and everytime I go the service is always great & the vibes and music are up. This is downtown so I normally take the shuttle to avoid the parallel parking. When the weather is nice outside this is a perfect place to eat outside and enjoy the city vibes. read more

We stumbled on this place while looking for after dinner drinks. They call themselves Nuevo Latino, and that's exactly what they bring to the menu: Food representations from all parts of Latin America: Ceviche, empanadas, mofongo, tacos, quesadillas, lomo saltado, you name it. However, we came specifically for a Carajillo. We waked up to the bar and were surprised with all the variety of spirits (especially tequilas), and Diana at the bar did not let us down with our search. She made us the perfect carajillo with Licor 43, and we ordered the yuca frita with aji amarillo, which wasn't so spicy as it sounds. We will definitely come back. read more

I came in for Restaurant Week and just about had to be rolled out the door! I caught the tail end of happy hour, so I started with a mojito and a couple of oysters, both of which were quite nice. The mojito may well be the best in New Haven, as they claim, but it would be even better if they used granulated sugar or demerara instead of simple syrup. Still, very yummy! For the first course of the prix fixe I did the salmon tartar, which was very interesting. There's mustard and capers mixed in with the salmon, which gave a nice zip that went great with the avocado. I could also have eaten an entire bowl of the potato and plantain chips! Second course was the lomo saltado, which had a lot going for it. Putting the fries on top kept them nice and crispy, and the fried egg with the perfectly cooked rice was lovely. The meat and veggies were also super tender. My only complaint was that I like my saltado saucy, and this was pretty dry, so there wasn't much for the rice and fries to soak up. Still good, but could be better. Dessert was the passionfruit flan, and it was so good I almost gave five stars just for that. It was tangy without being too sour, and the whipped cream cut the acid perfectly. I have no notes--I'll literally probably come back just for dessert! read more

Went with my husband and 4 friends last weekend. Nice ambiance. Mediocre meal. To start we had the guac - it was fine, good, served with soft tortillas which was odd. We got the queso fundido which was actually served with chips so that was good - we were able to use those chips for the quac. The queso was good. Also had the garlic shrimp app. The shrimp were tiny and I'm not sure how they messed it up but the garlic was barely cooked. I was stuffed at this point so for my meal I actually got the grilled octopus app. This was by far the best part of my meal. It was actually delicious - some of the best I've had! 2 people at the table got the paella. Tiny portion for the $35+ price tag. Also - there was a bad mussel in one of the servings that ruined the meal for my friend. Cocktails were good. Prices were reasonable. Service was fine. The passion fruit flan had a more mousse consistency than the other flan I've had in the past. Loved the location. read more

My wife and I stopped here last evening for dinner before a show at the Shubert Theater. We had a terrific dining experience! The food was excellent. Everything was very fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. The decor reminded us of some of the places we'd been to in Barcelona and Lisbon. The staff was super friendly and seemed genuinely eager to please. We had such a nice experience we decided to stop back in after the show for a nightcap (despite the impending hour long ride home from New Haven!) The traffic along the shoreline of Connecticut is a bear, so I dont get up to New Haven that often, but this place will most likely encourage me to brave the trip to Elm City more often. read more

Pacifico is a hidden gem in New Haven across from the Shubert, corner of College & Crown. The interior is beautifully decorated, with large windows and plenty of seating. We always have a great hostess and friendly servers. Last night my husband and I had the crab cake appetizer, which was mostly crab and was seasoned perfectly. He had the shrimp and scallops in a potato nest over lobster ravioli and I had the salmon w tamarind sauce which is my absolute favorite (I sure would love the recipe if the chef is willing to share!). The restaurant is cute to look at, but is awkwardly laid out and had some rather steep stairs. Even though we had made a reservation, our large 13 person party was crammed into a very tight little nook, which could've been pretty uncomfortable if we were much larger people. For graduation weekend, there was a pre fixe menu (3 courses for $65: appetizer, entree, dessert), which I thought was a great idea. The options were appealing and the food came out pretty fast. I got the crab cake as appetizer, branzini as entree, and coconut sorbet as dessert. The food was pretty yummy and the entree portions were generous with a capital G! I asked for medium and it was a little more than medium, but that doesn't affect me (just fyi if you are particular, maybe round down). We also got drinks that were tasty. I got a gin drink but I hear they have good mojitos. When we got a second drink the server tried to take away my first one before it was empty which was weird, but I guess having extra table space matters too. Churros were good! I did not like how the server came to tell us to leave for another reservation pretty much right after we paid-- It was a little pushy. If we were still sitting for like a long time, fine, but it was a little too soon IMO. There was a large party/conference upstairs so I think their usual space was limited so maybe this would not be a problem on a normal night. Overall, enjoyed the food there. read more

The menu had many great things to choose from We really just wanted it all. They had Tapas, and main entrees. Whenever I've walked by Pacifico, the outdoor dining area is packed with people, so I was excited to try them out for dinner! We ended up sitting indoors since there were no tables outside, and I enjoyed the space inside too. The decor was fun and the playlist was on point! Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the food - the dishes we ordered were very greasy and heavy, with the main flavor being butter/oil. We ordered the fried calamari, the mussels in green sauce, and the shrimp and scallops with lobster ravioli. The calamari was too greasy and the fried jalapeño slices didn't add much flavor or texture. The sauce for the mussels was nice but so heavy with butter. It is definitely a dish to be shared. The shrimp and scallops also tasted like they were doused in butter, which masked the flavors of the seafood and succotash. The only redeeming quality was the ravioli - they were stuffed with lobster. Otherwise, the service was great, the waiters and waitresses are friendly and attentive. Overall, Pacifico seems like a nice place with good vibes to catch up with friends over a drink, but I wouldn't go solely for the food. read more

Our daughters and son-in-law treated us to the Mother's day prix fixe brunch at Pacifico on Sunday. We were really looking forward to it as the menu looked great. I will start with the positive, the food was good. But the entire experience was ruined by the worst service we have ever received. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We were greeted by the hostess who wasn't at all pleasant. She said she would check to see if our table was ready. She then disappeared for 15 minutes leaving us standing by the front door where we were clearly in the way. She finally came back and showed us to a pleasant table in the upstairs dining area. After a bit our waiter came over and introduced himself. He seemed pleasant and knowledgeable but that would be the last we would see of him until we were almost finished with our entrée. The first major issue occurred with our appetizer. There were 5 of us, 3 of our appetizers were brought to the table. The three of us waited for the other 2 to arrive but ended up starting to eat as they were getting cold. 10 minutes after we finished the three appetizers the other 2 arrived. One of them was ceviche, which our son-in-law enjoyed, but he was not provided with a spoon to eat with. Since there was no one around to ask my husband went to find a spoon for him. We then waited for our entrees. We were having a nice conversation, so we didn't pay attention to how long they took but it was a significant amount of time. Some of us ordered sea bass and some steak and eggs. The steak which was filet mignon was to have chimichurri sauce. The steak arrived with no sauce and a pile of mixed greens with no dressing. It also included scrambled eggs and about a ¼ a cup of potatoes and peppers. I should have taken a photo as the presentation was not attractive. There were no issues or complaints with the sea bass though it was actually branzino. Apparently, Mediterranean Sea bass is the same as branzino. There was no one around to ask about the dressing and chimichurri sauce. Finally, when we were ¾ of the way finished with our entrees our waiter came over to tell us they had run out of the cheesecake some of us had ordered. This was the first time we saw him since we placed our order. At that time, we changed our dessert order and asked for the dressing and chimichurri sauce. He was pleasant enough and apologized. We expected him to go and get the missing items but instead he went to the other side of the room and didn't return for 15 minutes. By that time the small piece of steak that was left was gone. It was especially disappointing as the chimichurri sauce tasted good and would have been amazing with the steak. We always drink water with our meals and should mention that our glasses sat empty for most of the meal. It wasn't until after he brought the chimichurri sauce that he offered to fill our glasses. We are typically high-tippers and very forgiving when we don't get the best service as we know it's a difficult job. But this was totally ridiculous. Even though the food was fine, the experience was totally ruined by the awful service. We will not return or recommend. read more

Started off with the pork belly that was perfectly salty, crunchy, complemented well by the pickled red cabbage slaw and topped with a sweet sauce. The main was a duck quesadilla - my first bite was honestly cold as the duck was not heated enough. The flavor itself was just a bit too salty, one dimensional. It was clear that they had made them way ahead. Service was really slow and we ended up wasting about 1 hr between waiting on our server to come to our table and them forgetting our orders. Came to New Haven for the nightlife. I stopped in around 5pm and the place was pretty much just us. (Different story after 9pm) I only wanted a snack so I got the short rib empanadas with goat cheese with a mango sauce and the yucca fries with a white sangria. I must say the empanadas were small but delicious! And gluten free. Yucca fries seemed fried a little hard but did the job. The sangria was more juice than wine. Staff was friendly and helpful. The service was poor albeit our reservation was for 5:30 pm on a Saturday. I ordered a Modelo and was served without a glass. When I asked for a glass, the bottle sat for five minutes waiting for the waitress to return. My date and I opted to share a salad and the fish tacos and duck quesadilla from the raciones section of the menu. Our guests each ordered two meals from the Entrees section. Our salad never came out, our tacos and quesadilla came out and sat for ten minutes as we politely waited for the entrees to be served to our guests. By the time that our waitress checked back giving me a chance to inquire about the entrees, our food was cold, (my quesadilla was burnt on the bottom, btw,) and we were told that when one orders from a section of the menu other than the entrees, that's how they do it there. Decided to do a late brunch/lunch because I saw on their online website, that they offered a pre fixe menu for 25$ (2 courses) and it was walkable distant from my hotel. I am a huge fan of course meals and also restaurant week, so it is a must for me. Also please note: (Oysters are not part of this). They also offer bottomless mimosas for 1.5 hours on Saturday and Sunday, although I went with a pino Grigio because I wanted oysters. Their oysters are blue point so they are pretty big and pack a flavor in every bite. They come in 6 per plate/16$ I believe? They also have an outdoor patio, where you can choose to sit wherever you like, half of it is shaded with umbrellas. (if you forget your sunglasses or hat.) I sat outside but there's also seating inside. This is also a dog and kid friendly establishment. They were also playing Latin music but it was tuned down enough for conversations which I liked. When I arrived I was greeted by the bus boy in which he offered to served me ice cold tap or bottled. After a couple minutes, the server came by, greeted me and asked if I was ready to order. As my first plate, I ordered a half dozen oysters with a glass of their Pinot Grigio. I loved their oysters. I slurped all of them in 1 minute. I also secretly actually wanted to order 24 for myself but I wanted to try other stuff too. My next dish was the roasted cauliflower, and honestly I really enjoyed the sauce, it added so much flavor to the dish. Kudos to the chef. Also since I ordered a lot of dishes to try out, the server made sure each plate was brought out in a timely manner. I was never rushed when eating here. In fact, my server made sure to check up on me and made sure my table was always cleared of finished plates. Furthermore, my next dish was of course, steak (prepare medium) and eggs, (my choice: prepared: over easy). This dish also came with a miniature salad and potatoes to my surprise. It was a slightly big plate. The salad tasted fresh, the potatoes were also pretty good, they were a little bit on the softer side though, the eggs were also cooked well and my steak was cooked to my liking, although the sauce it came with was tasteless in my opinion. It didn't really help the dish in any way no matter what I mixed it with. I would recommend to have the sauce on the side and not on top of the steak when ordering this dish. After ordering a second glass of pino, I had spoken to the server to see if they can make an espresso martini in which they could! Fabulous! Upon recieving my espresso martini the server also recommended a chocolate cake which paired up so well with the espresso martini. It wasn't overpowering as I thought it would've been. The way they made the martini balanced out the richness of the chocolate cake which also had cute little decor of sliced strawberries and lightly, dotted, whip cream. Overall everything was delicious. Would definitely come back for the oysters, and to try out other entrees. read more

It was New Haven Restaurant week weekend and most restaurants in the area were participating. We walked in and although it was busy we were able to get a table for 2 within minutes. We both took advantage of the special which was 3 course meal for $45. For my appetizer I chose the shrimp ceviche which was my least favorite of the 3 as it was bland and only had 3 shrimp and ove 20 diced yellow peppers. It was mostly peppers. For my main dish I chose the churrasco with fried yucca. The steak was cooked to perfection and yucca fries were hot, crunchy and perfectly salted. For dessert we both chose the Tres leche cake. It was good. I definitely would love to go back on a regular night and try their regular menu or sit at the bar as it looked like a nice bar. Service was nice and fast even with a full room. We got our drinks refilled in a timely manner and got checked in by our server often. read more

What a MESS ... Let's start with the fact that the WHOLE place smells like food , you'll leave there smelling great ( not) . The Host is also the bartender and waiter ( not his fault ) but the poor guy was running all over the place . We ordered 4 different appetizers and they came at different times , seriously that should be served together :( Just very disorganized. At least some of the appetizers were good , we ordered a veggie arepa and it was so soggy it was like eating oil . The short rib empanadas were good but way overpriced for basically 2 mini empanadas . The shrimp in garlic sauce was good . But like I said all served at different times .. just a mess .. I usually don't like writing bad reviews , but this was a bit to much ... Very disappointing read more
