Recommendation for surgeon, Dr. Faramarz Shabdiz from patient, Suzanne Hawley…read more.. I crossed paths with Dr. Shabdiz because I had a basal cell cancer on my nose. Right from the get-go, I was impressed. The Entrust Medical Group has their headquarters in St. Joseph Pavilion on La Veta in Orange and like his surroundings, I soon found out that Dr. Shabdiz is classy. When he entered the examining room, he actually glowed. I felt (and saw) his warm, golden aura. He smiled like he really meant it and when he looked at my cancer, I knew he had razor sharp eyes. Within two minutes, I figured it out: I was in good hands. His lovely assistant, Roxanna Sanchez, (who has been with him for about eight years... doesn't that speak volumes about what a great boss he is?) immediately scheduled the procedure with the La Veta Surgical Center and I would be in-and-out in one afternoon. When I arrived, I quickly met my pre-op nurse, Beth, whose consultation put me at ease. As she prepped me, I was delighted that she had a joyful, disarming personality. Were we having fun? Absolutely! She handed me off to Ameir, my surgical nurse, who would be by my side as we segued into the operating room. (Somehow, as he was telling me what to expect, we discovered that we were both passionate cooks and he committed to memory a recipe I'd invented - "Suzanne's Salmon.") Ameir was disarming, too, and I happily noted that I was not stressed in the least. Dr. Shabdiz frequently buzzed by my curtained domicile and, there it was again, that golden aura that followed him everywhere. The female anesthesiologist, Dr. Nicolai, stopped in to introduce herself and before I knew it, I was on the operating table. I trusted these people. I was in loving hands. My next experience was coming out of anesthesia in the recovery room and, whoopee, as we'd arranged, there was my beautiful daughter Kirsten and my oh-so-pretty, rambunctious, three-year-old granddaughter, Cheyenne Skye. They'd both come from Los Angeles to celebrate my new nose that had borrowed some skin from behind my right ear. So, a week later, I was back at Dr. Shabdiz's office and he deemed my recovery thus far as perfect. He announced that there wouldn't be a trace of the graft in three to six months. But, wait a minute! I didn't want this man to depart from my life. I wrote him a letter describing my successful journalistic writing career and told him I was now building a book of memoirs and collaborating on a movie script. Outrageously healthy at 71, I had another 20 years or so of writing left in me - and, I added, "one more torrid love affair." After the nose had healed, Dr. Shabdiz and I would meet again. I would be able to afford a facelift from him and wouldn't that pull out all the stops in my life? You see, when you meet someone with an incredible aura, you know you will be friends for life. I cannot wait to be back at the La Veta Surgical Center for my next appointment with this fabulous doctor and his great support team!

Additionally, his nasal and ear assessment was surprisingly painful. Overall, after two appointments, we will seek out a different ENT. I noticed that his website focuses heavily on plastic surgery. Perhaps he is uninterested in the more standard ENT patients and this informs his care.

I've been to other otolaryngologists prior to seeing Dr. Cohen and I was always disappointed with the treatment/results. Dr. Cohen took the time to treat my symptoms prior to recommending surgery. I'm 6 weeks out from my surgery and feel amazing! He did for me in 6 months what other doctors could not do in 5 years. The office staff is always very helpful both prior to and post my operation. I've seen many examples, good and bad. This practice is so exceptional that I have found it impossible to replicate by other ENT's. Thank you all on a job well done and a level of service and competence that pleasantly fulfilled my expectations.

I came to Dr. Cohen feeling overwhelmed, but from the very first visit, I knew I was in the right hands. Dr. Cohen was incredibly thorough and compassionate. The procedure went smoothly, and the recovery process was very manageable thanks to the clear guidance and support from Dr. Cohen and his team. The results have truly been life-changing -- my breathing is dramatically improved, and the visible curve and collapse are gone. My nose looks natural, balanced, and like me again. Dr. Cohen not only repaired the damage but helped restore my confidence and comfort. I'm beyond grateful and would highly recommend him to anyone in need of ENT care or reconstructive nasal surgery. He is a true expert who cares deeply about his patients and their outcomes.

I hope you got money to burn because this office is doing bigtime insurance billing upcoding. They…read morebilled $1,566.00 for my 15-minute consult. I went in for a consult about an elective procedure - not the procedure itself, just a meeting to discuss potential side effects. The entire visit took about 10 minutes, but I'll be generous and say it was 15 minutes. Dr. Verma did a laryngoscopy that took less than 2 minutes and then explained the process for the procedure. I learned nothing new about the procedure that I hadn't already read on Reddit. But fine, this initial consult is required for the procedure. Figured it wouldn't be that expensive to just ask a doctor if Reddit was right (BTW he confirmed Reddit was, in fact, a good resource to learn about this procedure). When I got the bill for this "consult" I figured there had to be a mistake. They had billed the office visit as a code 99205 at $974.00. That was **in addition** to the laryngoscopy code 030575 at $592.00. That's a cool $1,566.00 all-in. Dude's billing $6,264 per hour? That's Beyonce money. If you look up the description for a code 99205 "provider visit", you'll find it's typically 60 minutes with a comprehensive history, comprehensive exam with high complexity decision-making and an extensive amount and/or complexity of data to be reviewed. This exam was none of those things. That's called insurance upcoding, my friends. This was a code 99202 (99203 if I'm being generous). My insurance adjusted his $1,566.00 to $1,035.79 and then billed me $530.21. I spent about 2 months trying to get Dr. Verma's office to bring the billing code down. Always difficult to reach, always referring me to the billing department at UCI Health (who couldn't do anything for me), but I finally got the office to lower the provider visit code. These MF'ers lowered the 99205 at $974.00 to a 99204 at $739.00 and said that was the lowest Dr. Verma was willing to go, like he was doing me some big favor now. And then, of course, somehow my insurance increased what I was responsible for. I finally had to say F it and just pay the bill. So all said and done my 15-minute exam to rehash what I read on Reddit cost me $556.10 and my insurance paid him another $497.38. Complete f'ing scam. I ultimately decided against doing the procedure before I got this first bill, but man I'm glad I didn't go through with it because if this is what he's charging for a short office visit, I'd probably have to file for bankruptcy after doing the procedure. I would have been better off setting fire to $556.10 cash than doing this little office exam. Then I at least would have gotten some warmth from the flames.

I saw so many doctors before Dr. Verma who were dismissive, or were not up to date enough to recognize the challenge and provide the solution. Every single day I feel this new wave of relief I take time to mentally send thanks and appreciation to this absolute legend of a human being. So much love and respect Dr. Verma, you changed my life and I will always remember it.
