Stopped in here for a different breakfast before a tour of Trinity College. So sorry we did. This was one of the most expensive and pretentious breakfast places I have ever visited. Service was awful. The place was packed with people who appeared to be waiting for their checks. I ordered something they called "posh eggs." It was a scrambled egg with a little bit of feta cheese and a hot sauce served over toast. They decorated it with flowers. My adult daughter ordered the protein pancakes, which were leaden and smothered with peanut butter, with a banana and blueberries on top.I think she had three bites. These things looked good but weren't all that great My daughter ordered coffee, I didn't. Bill was over €50. Such a cute spot for brunch! We got there on a Sunday morning around 9:30 and there were empty seats but by the time we left an hour later there was a line out the door! Bakery style vibes, love the decorations. I ordered the post workout gluten free pancakes - soooo good and sooo filling. But yes I managed to eat all three large pancakes. The Greek yogurt was smooth and more like a sauce than a glob of yogurt which was actually really nice and worked amazingly. It had some good tang to balance the maple syrup (replaced the honey with that). There were bananas and blueberries in several layers of the pancakes which was great so I could have more bits with fruit. The peanut butter provided a decadent nutty touch and mixed great with the yogurt as well. The perfect bite is having all elements at the same time ugh miss it. There was extra sauce on the plate too so I felt it was a good amount for say the middle pancake which is usually left bare and sad. And we can't forget the crunchy yummy granola that added great textural contrasts. Look how pretty my pancake is! My boyfriend got the pog breakfast and enjoyed it! Great savory notes. He doesn't usually have eggs sunny side up but actually liked it. He never had black pudding before and tried it and thought it was okay lol. He gobbled everything else up! A big hit & miss! I've been many many times and while some times are brilliant and I leave super happy, others leave me wishing I went somewhere else. Typically get the pancakes with all the extra fancy toppings-- I'm paying extra for each single topping so i don't expect them to skimp-- but too often I feel they do! For the second time they forgot one of the extra toppings too boot, this time I sent it back and had the pancakes fluffed up, but too many times I've paid 15€ (€5 extra!) for a sad, flat 'stack'. The waiting staff is very helpful and super kind, all but one! One I found particularly rude but It really does not matter when the rest of the waiters were so warm and welcoming. Have to say I'm a really big fan of this place. There aren't many places around the city where you can get a really big healthy salad with everything you want or don't want in it. I love the fact that it's all spilled out on the board beforehand and chopped up so you get the perfect bite each time. I'm also a big fan of all the other extras they have on sale - healthy snack bars, juices, froyo, etc. The decor is spot on as well - bright, colourful, comfy, and great big windows looking out onto the quays. I'm a regular and will most certainly become more so in the coming 'healthy' months... ;-) read more

This was my Valentines' Day treat from the misses. I woke up keen for a nice posh breakfast, strong coffee, baguette, croissant, fruit salad, all that pretentious stuff what i like....but the missus was all like, "I have a surprise for you...we're gonna have brunch in a new place this morning!" and I was all like,"what new place?" and she was all like,"You'll see when we get there!" and i was all like,"Whatevs!" .....and it turned out to be a place called POG! It was a lovely spot, just on Bachelors Walk, and the interior is lovely a colorful with some good tunes in the background. It was also the only place i could think of that would actually do a pancake short stack for breakfast...most other places in Dublin just go for the all Irish. The toppings are really good, the coffee was strong. The staff were mostly Brazilians...the dude with the tattoo on his arm from Curitiba was really cool, really personable. Only problem is that they serve protein pancakes, so they taste really odd, even with the toppings. Also, it was fairly busy, and there wasn't enough seating to accommodate everyone...and the other members of staff (one a girl from Sao Paulo and the other a tall dude with a goatee) were alot less nice, and didn't smile once. I might pop in some other time for a froyo...but ill pass on those protein pancakes. This is a great little spot to watch people go by in the very centre of Dublin city, particularly on a nice day if you get a seat outside. I just went for a smoothie on this occasion. I had been looking to get froyo but they had only the natural and peanut butter flavours left, and I much prefer fresh, fruitier flavours. The smoothie I went for was the Skinny Bitch, because it had the best ingredients, and was incidentally the lowest calories. It was really delicious. All the staff seem really lovely and were great to explain all the options. Prices aren't too bad for what you're getting either, though the juices seemed a little expensive. I quite liked Pog! The idea of custom salads from a huge selection of ingredients that usually aren't at regular delis like chickpeas, smoked salmon, sweet potato is pretty cool! Best of all, it's super cheap, I paid €7.50 for a lettuce base salad bowl with 8 toppings. They mix all the ingredients and then place it on a cutting board and cut it rapidly with this boat-shaped two handle knife so everything is well mixed and bite size! They also have a good selection of dressings. The cafe is kept nice and clean, and they also serve a range of smoothies and frozen yoghurt. You can also get food to go. The only thing that didn't get this a 5 star rating from me was that the service was not that great. But for a quick, cheap and healthy yet filling meal, I'd recommend Pog. read more

Really needed some fresh juice since I was traveling and going every few days from places that were super hot to rainy and cold. Ordered a defender shot with ginger lemon and cayenne which was a spicy acidic icy shot. I personally loved it and thought it had a good stinger and kick to it. Plus I'm a huge fan of each of these items separately. One shot was 2.50 euros not bad! Then ordered one of their two most popular drinks, the "Get your green on" for 5 euros with kale spinach Apple parsley cucumber celery and lemon. Really generous portions for 5 euros and the drink was a nicely blended juice, instead of some shops who end up making a smoothie. Really good and so great that this drink had SO many greens! One con was that they didn't have take away bottles which would have made traveling easier but a really small note! Terrible service and overpriced food; don't go here. Took 10+ mins to get the attention of the only waitress walking around to clear our table that has food and plates all over it. When I get her attention she laughs and explains that she doesn't really work there, she just used to and today she's helping out (this is confusing as I've seen her wearing an apron and serving and cleaning). I ask if she can get our table cleared, to which she looks at me as if this is extremely unfair or demanding of us. The food took 25 minutes to come, despite us deliberately choosing the non-vegan pancakes which take less time to make and the restaurant not being extremely busy. We also then have to call the waitress back to remind her we don't have forks. At this point it becomes clear that our drink order has also been completely forgotten about, as when I asked the waitress where they were she responds with "you ordered drinks?". 5 minutes later (and a total 40 mins after ordering) our drinks finally arrive, with no explanation or apology for the delay. I would expect this in a greasy cafe charging super low prices, but we paid €30 for 2 orders of pancakes and 2 iced teas. Either lower your prices to reflect the customer service, or train your staff. I've worked in enough restaurants to know that what we experienced was either complete laziness or incompetence. read more

Okay this is hands down my favorite pancake place in dublin (and i've tried loads!) - their protein pancakes made it a routine that I'll have them once a week after a tough workout. They also show the macros for their menu which is really helpful for everyone who is paying a bit more attention to their diet. Their other menu options look amazing too (acai bowls etc) but I am so in love with the amazing pancakes that I can't go a week without ordering them haha i definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to go for healthy food options without wanting to settle for boring read more

POG is a new addition to the O'Connell Street area - a little spot on Bachelors Walk, right next to the Bridge. I came here for the froyo and - sorry to say - was not impressed at all. They had 5 different types (tried the Natural and Mango) together with 3 toppings (some fruit, sweets, sauces). Sadly both flavors tasted either blunt (Natural) and artificial (Mango). The toppings made me even more sad - three out of 5 fruits were not available (anymore?), and the sweets were put too cautiously onto the froyo by the girl at the counter. After all, I got a large portion of froyo that didn't taste well, and only a few toppings. Disappointing. POG also offers salad which we didn't try - see review below. read more

I'll definitely be back! The room is small but bright, cheery and facing the Liffey. I popped in to treat myself to some froyo but ended up going with a smoothie. They have plenty of smoothie options, and you can even add muesli to them, which sounded appealing to me. So this place has 3 great C's: cute, central and cheap. Their decor improved from the last time I popped in to take a look and now they have more wooden tables with cushioned chairs. There are original lampshades and stickers on the walls explaining the origin of their name PÓG = kiss in the Irish Language, and they sell closed sandwiches and cold teas. It can be hard to find a place to sit though depending on how busy it is so better to avoid in peak times. It is not the most silent place neither so I wouldn't stop there if I needed to catch up with a friend as there is lots of the vroooom of the blender going on (smoothies on the making), but thankfully also some nice music. Their healthy options seem really nice and you can see everything being prepared as they have a kind of open counter, and everything is spotless. The salad and toppings seem fresh and if I ever go back, it will be for their green offers for sure. I noticed they have gift cards available, paleo cakes and intriguing post work out salads for those who like chicken (not my case) and a beetroot and goats cheese vegetarian one (which I like it). I ordered coffee, hot cocoa and 2 protein pancakes because I was craving pancakes and I had no idea of what they would taste like. Three toppings are included in the price but you can add more for 50 cents each in average. M&M's, nutella, strawberries, pieces of cookies, nuts and syrups make you take ages to decide! The staff is hit and miss and I can understand some of the bad reviews based on that as most of them act like they really don't want to be working on that day but if you are lucky enough to be served by the Brazilian guy with a beard, you are sorted as he is extremely personal and smiley. The presentation of the pancakes is beautiful as they are served in mini wooden cutting boards and the design of the hot cocoa is also nicely done. Now what really disappointed me was the taste of those so called "protein pancakes"...it's almost like eating cardboard and I wouldn't sell this myself (even though they serve the most affordable in town - about 6€). The coffee was decent and the cocoa was tasty but wouldn't appeal to you if you don't like very sweet drinks. Next time I want pancakes I'll go some place else and get a real puffy, fat and syrupy one that has no protein whatsoever! read more

The recent exposure to sunshine led to a huge craving for frozen yogurt. So I tried a few different places. POG is my least favourite. I've only been here once before and wasn't keen on the service or the smoothie I had. But back to the fro-yo: POG offers two different flavours: natural and peanut butter, both in two sizes: medium and large. The medium size costs 4.50Euro incl. one topping. I went for the natural one with blueberries. The fro-yo wasn't very cold which may sound silly BUT in my scientific opinion that's the reason why it started to melt while being carried from the counter to a seat. It was very watery and had almost no flavour. Towards the end I only had slush in my bowl. The topping of blueberries however was generous although they weren't all that fresh. I picked out a few ones that had seen better days. Overall impression: meh. Too little flavour and too expensive for what you get. read more
