-Well sadly I'm so disappointed with Oxomoco in general. Let's start, I've been waiting to get a reservation at this place for months after all the reviews and being a Michelin star restaurant I expected so much more. We made a reservation for 5 at 9pm. We live all the way across town so we arrived a bit early , to not be late. We checked in with the hostess who told us our table was not ready and we had to wait outside until our time, ok great with Covid we get it. So we stand outside for 20 min in the cold our table is past due and they tell us sorry the people before us still eating you have to wait, ok we wait outside another 10 min and then they bring us in to sit at a table that was empty since we had arrived 30 min before. Ok no biggie we sit to try to enjoy out first night out in a while. Here is the worst part, our server was rude and rushed. She rushed us to place our entire order appetizers and entrees because according to her that is how it is there. Ok we place our entire order and we will be getting dishes all in no particular order. That is ok too we get it. Things are hard with COVID. We work in the restaurant bizz we understand. Then We are informed that the kitchen is closing and if we want something else we must order. We haven't recieved what we were rushed to order and she wants us to decide now! She tell us the bar will stay open until 10:30 buts it's last call even though it's only 9:45, why take reservations at 9pm if your going to rush them out?? Now we start getting aggravated. We had ordered the steak at the beginning when we were rushed to order, but we wanted it well done. She said it would take a bit longer we said ok, 1 hour later still no steak we ask the server since she kept rushing us to order telling us it's last call for food and drinks even though it's only 10pm and we were sitted at 9:10pm, she says it's coming you wanted it well done. Another 15min later and she brings us a red steak. She says it's well done and tries to give us a lesson. Well done means no red no blood, 1hour and 10min for a steak seems ridiculous. Clearly she just wanted us to leave so she could go home. Again we work in a restaurant we understand wanting to close up and go home, but even a simple small restaurant with no stars and much more humble food, gives better service, The food was ok, but not worth everything else that went wrong. In the end we left hungry, disappointed and found the whole experience lacking. They were pretentious and condescending. I would rather go to a taco truck and I will feel better served and more welcomed that how we felt at oxomoco The sad part is that I was so looking foward to dinning here and was so excited due to many great reviews and yet our experience was so bad. read more

We dined at Oxomoco in Greenpoint last night to celebrate our anniversary, and while our experience started off rocky, our server, Darwin, absolutely saved the night. The first few interactions, including with the manager, were less than ideal. I politely asked the manager to slow down our service, as we were celebrating a special occasion, and her dismissive response left us feeling disappointed. However, Darwin truly turned things around. He was attentive, kind, and went above and beyond to ensure our dinner was everything we hoped for. His attention to detail and genuine care made all the difference, allowing us to fully enjoy the evening despite the rough start. To top it off, the chef came out to greet us, and she was so lovely. We even got to share a fun detail about the corner booth table we were seated at--where the glass reflects the kitchen, making it look like you're watching a live TV show, reminiscent of *The Bear*. It added such a unique touch to the experience. If you're planning to dine at this Michelin-starred restaurant, we highly recommend requesting Darwin as your server. He's a true gem and made our anniversary dinner unforgettable. read more

Oxomoco is a very good Mexican restaurant in Greenpoint. The star of the show at this spot are the tacos. On our recent visit we were a party of 4 and had; Smoked Mango - this was similar to getting dried mango except with a smokey flavor. It was good, and a nice snack option to start the meal. Guacamole - excellent, must get dish. Caviar Tuna Tartare - this was fine, rather small portion split between 4. The caviar had a bit of a "fishy" taste to it. Sweet Potato Tlayuda - this was like eating sweet potato nachos, and it was another excellent dish. Punta Verde Salad - the salad was ok, it felt a little over drenched in dressing. Beet Chorizo Tacos - very good. Golden Tilefish Tacos - excellent, the tilefish is lightly fried and is accompanied with a fennel shrimp salsa that was excellent. Lamb Barbacoa Tacos - the lamb was incredible it had a strong taste, but was not gamey. Favorite dish of the meal. Bavette - this was our least favorite dish. The steak was cooked well, but it lacked flavor. Tres Leches Cake - not anything special, but not bad. Stick to the tacos, guac and tlayuda and your in for an excellent meal. read more

Sitting near the kitchen, we asked the chefs directly if it might still be possible, and they graciously said they could make it work. However, the waiter returned moments later insisting it was not possible, leaving us confused and disappointed. While the food truly lived up to its reputation, these lapses in service and quality control made the experience less than what I'd expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I've been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while, and it truly lived up to all the hype. From the moment I walked in, I was hit with the delicious scent of food wafting from the wood-fired ovens, setting the tone for an amazing dining experience. The interior is beautiful and cozy, making you feel right at home. The spicy mango margarita was one of the best I've had--perfect balance of sweet and spicy. To kick things off, we tried the chips & salsa starter, and I highly recommend it. The market corn tlayuda was unlike anything I've ever had before--totally unique and a hit with everyone at the table. But the real star of the night was the tuna tostada. Hands down, the best bite of the evening, and possibly one of the best things I've ever eaten. It's a must-order dish, and I'll definitely be coming back just for that. While the shrimp tostada was tasty, it couldn't hold a candle to the tuna version. Dock another star for the gross philosophical offense of waaaaaaay overcharging for everything on the menu and the people who are waiting for tables who are allowed to hover over and bump into you while you dine, oh, and the servers who blatantly, aggressively, unapologetically conspire to force you out (literally a conspiracy perpetrated by multiple actors) and Oxo-nono is front and center to nab the douchiest new Brooklyn restaurant 2018 which is saying a lot because there have been LOT of douchebag not-good restaurants this year. read more

I went back a second time to Oxomoco to try it again (the first time was great) and I have to say it was even better. There was a bit of a wait, but while there we enjoyed a margarita classic and spicy margarita. Once seated, we enjoyed the guacamole, tried the carrot tamal, both veggie tacos -- the beat and the asparagus -- and the tuna taco. Tuna was a bit spicy for me personally, but my girlfriend loved it. Then we tried the steak this time. Last time was the delicious roast chicken and crispy rice. The steak was cooked perfectly and we couldn't finish it there was so much. Definitely can be for three or four people. Never written a review before but want to show these guys some love because they are CRUSHING IT. Have tried to get a table in the place numerous times but the 2hr+ wait was a big deterrent. We've ordered delivery 6 times now and had every item on the menu. tacos are the best I've ever had. bonus points for tortillas and salsas on the side so nothing arrives a soggy mess. I was skeptical after reading the reviews but holy smokes this place is great. We were given some delicious (complimentary) hibiscus teas as we sat down. It just kept getting better from there. The appetizer salsa was great (the dark mole like salsa was so so so good). Get the Tuna tostada, the lamb tacos, and the steak. And do not forget dessert! Even though there's currently no indoor dining, you should at least take a peak at the interior. So pretty and airy looking. Reminds me of Los Angeles restaurants. Service and drinks are good. Food is well prepared and looks pretty. But the food lacks flavor and is a bit too light, especially for the price. I had an amazing brunch experience at Oxomoco. We came during the brunch rush and were still seated quickly. The chilaquiles and masa pancake we ordered were beyond delicious. Our server, John, was really nice and attentive and added to the overall enjoyment of our meal. If you visit Oxomoco, make sure to try the chilaquiles and masa pancake; you won't be disappointed.
