I would not recommend this place to anyone. The service was very poor and the food tasted awful. The horsesteak was unbearable, it actually tasted sour. I was shocked. I rarely leave reviews like this but in this case it needs to be shared. Especially considering how many wonderful restaurants there are in Interlaken -- this is not one of them. We sat for 10 minutes before someone came to ask us for drinks and we waited another 15 just to get the water. The food experience was low quality and NOT worth the price. Had a wonderful meal served by friendly and attentive staff. I had the Ox house burger. It comes loaded with bacon, cheese, a house made sauce and onions. it was packed full of flavor although it was a lean grade of hamburger meat. Being American, I am more accustomed to a fattier burger The best entrée was the bratwurst. My husband and I went here based in the reviews. We ordered the burger and were both grossed out. The texture was odd...it reminded of us the public school burgers we were. Fed as kids! It was more like salisbury steak, with no herbs or spices just the bread mixed in. The wine was alright and the service was mediocre. The food was solid. Big buyer beware moment. We ordered still water. The waiter brought a glass bottle of still water that appeared to be tap as expected. The bill came and the water was 29.50! That's the same price as a bottle of wine! Ox Restaurant & Grill was very close to our hotel, so we decided to try it for dinner. I'm glad we did as it was one of the best meals we had in Switzerland. They menu is that of a steakhouse with a selection of beef, pork & chicken, plus a number or dishes native to Switzerland. I had the Lamb, which was excellent, and my wife had the pork with an apple pear sauce. This was easily the best pork I had ever tried. We also had some excellent deserts. Overall the bill wasn't all that bad. If you order steaks, thats a different story as they are expensive. Wish I could eat here again, but it will be awhile before I'm back in Interlaken. But definitely try this place. It has a cool bar with cow bells lining the ceiling, and overall a very modern look and feel. The service we had was some of the best on our entire trip. #209 It is Interlaken so I could feel my wallet getting lighter before I'd even got to the train station of this ultra-touristy destination. With that said, on the advice of a local, I came to check this place out for dinner and was pleasantly surprised with the lack of tourists (I, of course, being the awesome exception). My rudimentary German-speaking abilities were offensive towards my native-Swiss German waitress and I could tell the signs of frustration on her face as it contorted, twisted, and showed all the signs of a disgusted German face as I attempted to communicate to her in broken-German what she would recommend. Definitely not a place that English-speaking tourists frequent. Success! With that said, I eventually settled on the beef kebobs and rice with herbs side dish. It was good, but overpriced (like everything in Switzerland) at 30 swiss francs. Meat was a tad too well-done even though I'd asked for medium-rare. They also serve limited seafood, but their specialty is steaks. The ambiance is fine. Outdoor seating is plentiful. Good place for a date, but probably not a good place if your clothes smell like the sweat of a day of hiking the Swiss Alps or a 40-year old WOW gamer that lives in his parents' basement. Delicious, from start to finish! Bread is served with a unique yogurt-herb type dip and is awesome!! House red wine was a fair price and very good as well. I ordered the pork chop with the chef's apple chutney and seasonal vegetables. The pork chop was very juicy and the sauce was sweet but not too sweet. Service was prompt and apologetic when not prompt. They even gave me the wifi password for guest use (evidently rare in this area). Outdoor seating is delightful, especially close to dark when they begin lighting table candles. Only downside was seasonal vegetables being tricolored peppers chopped up..sauce they were in was a bit too powerful. Aside from that, all stars are well deserved! Had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews and crowded outdoor space... we were definitely disappointed. Only one waitress outside made the service extremely slow and non-attentive. Our wine glass pours were severely skimpy (even though the wine was delicious) - definitely not the 1DL listed on the menu. On a good note, the Caesar salad was delicious, as well as the bread. For our meal we split the classic burger. I'm not sure if Swiss burgers are different, but this one honestly tasted like a Salisbury steak... didn't seem grilled whatsoever, rather like it was pan-seared with a very weird texture. I wanted the husband to be able to partake in a lovely steak since I was going to be dragging him to a few vegetarian-only restaurants in the upcoming days - Took to Yelp and found Ox. It's right next door to Cafe Paris - They have a massive patio and gorgeously-decorated interior. B/c the weather was perfect, we dined outside. There are no vegetarian-specific dishes, but herbivores will do just fine here with the salad and side dish options. We ordered a bottle of Spanish red wine and split a small Caesar salad as an app - The Caesar salad was one of, if not the best - yes, I'm going with it was the best - Caesar salad I've ever had. DELICIOUS! The hubby had the gentleman's cut of the ribeye with the pepper sauce. His side were the potatoes au gratin and green veggies. I ordered the Parmesan risotto side and the small salad that had goat cheese, olives, and dried tomatoes. Funnily - the server first brought out a salad that was one of the other options (had beans, beets, and 2 other things in it) and when I pointed out it was the wrong salad, he hurriedly whisked it away and came back with what I found out to be was the correct salad placed on top of the other salad. No worries - I'll never complain about someone giving me beets - Especially when I have goat cheese :) Anyhow - the ratings: husband ordered his steak medium-rare and says it came out more medium prepared - HOWEVER, he wasn't upset b/c he reports his steak as being incredibly moist and delicious. I can speak to his sides - Yummy! My risotto was fantastic and my salad, while odd, was also very tasty. Not as tasty as the Caesar though, so if folks are torn - I would recommend (highly) the Caesar. We also ate dessert (b/c we're on vacation and calories magically dissipate when you're on vacation..) - It was a deconstructed chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet (says mango on the menu, but you can sub another flavor) and whipped cream. Like the rest of our meal, it was divine. Strangely enough, the cost at Ox felt on par with the a higher end meal in the US - Approx $160-165. We think it comes down to ordering a bottle of wine - So while Switzerland's food prices are 2-3x that of the US' - their wines are priced typical European style, so it balances out. I was staying in Interlaken for three days while checking out the neighboring towns and hiking. The owner of the hotel I stayed in (Christine from the Hotel Alphorn) suggested the Ox as a restaurant I should check out while in town. The Ox is located just off the city center in a relatively busy section of town. However I did not feel that the clientele was overly made of up tourists. Instead it was a mixture of locals as well as a few tourists sprinkled in. I ordered ribs. They were excellent. My girlfriend got a salad that I believe had shrimp, avocado, and mangos on it. Both were excellent. We sat outside on their large outdoor seating. The place also had a great selection of drinks and would be a nice destination if you are looking for a nightcap. the prices are a bit high by US standards, but relatively normal for Switzerland. Although you could definitely break the bank if you wanted to, there were plenty of reasonably priced dishes at the Ox. I would say it is two and a half $ rather than three $. read more

This is the best restaurant we ate at in Switzerland and the prices are comparable to other less quality restaurants. The food and drinks were wonderful for adults and our kids were well taken care of also. There is no need to speak rudimentary German, all the staff spoke fluent English. I would highly recommend making time to eat here when you are visiting Interlaken. The ambience is a fun modern take on Swiss décor and the restaurant easily accommodated our large group of 8 people. read more

The food was edible, but nothing great. It took an hour for our food to arrive and when we asked about it, the waitress seemed stressed and said there was nothing she could do. When the middle eastern couple next to us tried to flag her down and ask a question she told them, "not now, I'll be with you in a few minutes." I found it very rude. We came to Ox based on a recommendation from one of the local paragliding groups earlier in the day. Being from Texas, our steak standards are pretty high. Ox knocked this one out of the park. I'd recommend the gentleman sized (~8 oz) tenderloin filet in the house butter. They nailed the temperature exactly. Best steak I've had, hands down. We also got the garlic bread and cheesy potato dish. Coupled with the locally brewed lager, we were set.
