Ms. Schweizer, hotel manager/owner was perhaps the most unprofessional individual in hospitality I've ever come across. I'll explain why, but first, I would certainly not recommend this restaurant. There are so many other options. I'll get this over with so we can enjoy the rest of our night, and Ms. Schweizer can have some reading material.
Dinner for two was ordered at the Bernerhof tonight. Salad, two drinks, and a traditional cheese fondue for two. I was not certain what was inclusive of the "Traditional Cheese Fondue" that when in addition to the fondue, we were surprised with potatoes and a sausage, we almost thought the idea was to dip bread and sausage! Unbeknownst to "Swiss Culture", which Ms. Schweizer later pointed out, not knowing what was inclusive of the fondue-for-two was a reasonable explanation for us--we continued our meal.
Halfway through the evening, our waiter (very kind gentleman) emerged with some news about our potatoes and sausage, which was about ¼ eaten. They had mistakenly brought out the meal to us which belonged to someone else. Fine.. happens once in a while, but the waiter steadily shared that we were expected to pay for half.
After several minutes of bickering, Ms. Schweizer made sure we understood that this is "Swiss Law". After wasting another 5 minutes in somewhat of a dream-state about the owner of this establishment embarrassing herself in front of other patrons and her staff, we decided to pay the bill and get on with our night. To our surprise, even after Ms. Schweizer threatened to call the Polizei if we didn't pay, no additional charges were placed on our bill. Regardless, I still owe her this review, as promised.
Although the fondue was pretty good (you get a star for that) and our waiter was very kind, I'd recommend Hotel Silberhorn in Wengen, instead; a very welcoming experience. read more
