We had an outstanding experience here. We stayed at the hotel and after a long day of travel, we stumbled down to this spot after making a reservation. Craving Swiss fondue, we elected to try this place out due to the proximity and reviews. We made a great decision. The service was phenomenal and the server explained the differences in their fondue vs other Swiss variations. It was an outstanding and flavorful fondue and probably the best we had in Switzerland. I can't speak on anything else besides the fondue as this is all we had.

Fondue pot with local varieties of cheeses.

OMG. If you are in Interlockan, Switzerland, and you want authentic cheese Fondue, GO HERE. " La Taverne."Absolutely the best. Great bread, fabulous locally sourced salad, outstanding local cheeses used in the fondue pot. Light bread in small cubes used to dip into the fondue. Combine the fondue experience with a lovely fresh salad, and Sauvignon blanc wine. Perfection. End with Hay liquor.

We had the Chinoise buffet, which consists of some savory broth-based hot pot along with access to the buffet bar. The broth was flavorful enough, but the accompaniments were just ok. There are a variety of sauces to choose from but most missed the mark for us. There were 3 protein choices which were: lean beef, chicken, and pork. We've definitely had better hot pots but for such a small town with not too many dining options I guess this will do.

This exceeded our expectations. I really just wanted to try the cheese fondue and not only was it super delicious, the the service and ambiance excelled. They started us out with a Amush bouch, such a unique flavor and texture, like a pumpkin whipped cream. We also ordered the herb soup, and beef stew. The soups was a vibrate green color with a foam and edible flowers. The flavor was delicious. Mint and Basil with cheese crips. The beef stew was presented in a way I have never seen. With asparagus stalks wrapped in bacon and thin ham pinwheels. Please try this place for yourself, you will definitely want to come back.

We went there during our start in Interlake to experience fondue. The restaurant has great decoration, service was excellent and wine was amazing. We did not care for the food as it did not have much flavors. Pasta was dry. Fondue was good but not to our personal tastes. Recommend it for the experience.

Cold pineapple soup - a welcome gift from the chef!

Absolutely amazing! Literally everything. From the service, to the food, everything was perfect. I really wish I remembered the name of our waiter who was quite actually the best waiter I've had in a very long time. He was hilarious and so caring. He actually made an effort to get to know and interact with my family, beyond just serving us. And the food! Wow! Just some great Swiss food here. We ordered the classic fondue, which was delicious. I also ordered a Caesar salad, which was so fresh and tasty! All of the staff also spoke great English, which made everything a lot easier.

This Wes the best food we had while here in Switzerland. Definitely the best bang for your buck. We had the chili fondue which was amazing.. we added both the potatoes and picked vegetables we also had a salads and a beef stew. All great.. and finished with the chocolate fondue which unlike the cheese which we split one portion between the three of us, the chocolate is in fact a single serving. Service was good, a bit slower but overall attentive and very kind. They do fill up even in the off season so I do recommend reservations.

Classic fondue comes with a basket of bread, potatoes, and pickles!

I was skeptical about this place at first, but it blew me away. The pictures of the portions look tiny, but I was surprisingly very full by the end! Every dish looked like a piece of decadent art, carefully placed and arranged on the plate. Presentation was a 10/10 Here's what I ordered: Optimo wine - $7 and very flavorful! It was recommended by the waiter. Classic cheese fondue - a must in Switzerland! $25 and came with bread, potatoes and pickles. We shared between 5 people as an appetizer. The fondue was really tasty and the white wine mixture was excellent! Pork belly - wow. It looks tiny, but it packed a punch! It was a tender piece of pork belly on top of a mashed potato (really creamy and silky), with a side of asparagus pieces cut up. It also came with a basket of rosemary potatoes - so good!! This was maybe $26?

    Pumpkin soup- bland, needs seasoning

Really nice restaurant, nice scenery around, nice waiter. The bread and butter was even fancy! It came with truffle butter, some kind of lemon oil and Black Sea salt. The combo of all three was delicious! The only thing that was bland was the pumpkin soup, but I added salt and pepper myself from the table and it wasn't so bad. Huge bowl potion. The pumpkin gnocchi was delicious! This was worth it! The boys had some kind of meat entrees and they liked it. (I forget what)

    First course: fondue!

We stopped in Switzerland for just one night and had to try fondue of course! We were very glad we chose Restaurant Taverne for our fondue experience. First of all, I urge you to MAKE A RESERVATION. We saw countless people turned away. We actually arrived at about 6:30pm for our 7:30pm reservation, and they had already had our table set aside for our reservation, so they were able to seat us immediately. We selected the "Swiss Menu" which is a set menu for two (46 CHF/person). The first course was the delicious fondue. Oh my goodness. Now I understand why people come to Switzerland for fondue. It came with bread, potatoes, and an oddly delectable pickle! The second course was veal with mushrooms, rosti, and vegetables. Fantastic! Rosti is a sort of potato pancake and it was very flavorful. The service was extraordinary as well. Our server was incredibly attentive.

Went on a Friday night- it was pretty busy and we saw many parties get turned away so be sure to make a reservation online in advance. Service was slow...there seemed to be one waiter working the entire restaurant. We ordered the classic cheese fondue and were pleased. It wasn't the best fondue ever, but very good and came with a lot of bread and a limited amount of potatoes and pickles. If you want some variety, pay the extra 7.5 for the veggies as it looked very good

Some sort of pre-appetizer...? Maybe cream cheese for the bread
    Li K.

Ok, I'm trying to be objective as an American who comes from a place where the Federal minimum wage is around $7.25, but IMO this place is very expensive & fancy. I guess nearly every place in Switzerland is fancy! Anyway, the food is good. We had the classic fondue & spinach cream cheese dumplings. They also had a robot bartender on the porch, pretty cool! Also there was confusion about the tip and a weird pre-appetizer. The staff all spoke English well and the scenery was nice, of course!

Appetizer on the house- raw ham with tomato mousse. Delish!

Excellent service and a reasonably priced menu with a wide array of options. There are some traditional Swiss dishes.

I really appreciated that they had a section on the menu dedicated to those with food allergies. What a brilliant idea!! Waitress was attentive. Since it was New Year's Eve, we were entertained by a traditional bell march of about 15 individuals banging huge bells. It was pretty cool. Lasted about 2 minutes. The staff could have been a bit warmer. Perhaps the language barrier was a factor. Also, adding small plates for the bread on the table would be a good idea.

If you care about the actual food, skip this place. I care about food far more than service, and this place was a huge disappointment. I ordered the beef stew, which my waitress recommended, and the meat was unbearably dry and chewy, not even the gravy could save it. Seriously, it was the worst-quality beef I can remember having at a restaurant. The Pinot Noir was excellent, but that was the only highlight. I had a reservation for 9 and showed up early at 8:45. On the phone they had said the kitchen closed at 9:30, but when I arrived no one attended my table until 8:58, when the waitress rushed over and told me the kitchen closes at 9. Meanwhile, the table next to me placed their order at 9:15 without issue. There was no silverware on the table, and I was never checked on once after my food arrived, which was very frustrating. The most frustrating part is that my meal for one person, including the dish and two glasses of wine, was $50 Franks. For that price, I expect far better quality. I expect better, truly. Please refer to photos for the dry beef stew meat.

The issues began when the gruff, stressed woman attempted to take our orders but couldn't answer any of our questions as her English was basically nil. We ordered a couple drinks and she returned for out order as we continued to struggle with the menu. She huffed and stood there actually tapping her finger on the table. We asked for the fondue and she asked 2 or 4 portions. We didn't know how large it was so we got it for 4 and it was huge but only came with bread... no potatoes, meat, veggies, etc. as we had heard was traditional. Then she took our menus away as though we were done but we wanted the fondue as a sort of appetizer, not our only meal, especially since it only came with bread. We hesitantly ordered a couple of dishes, beef tongue and a schnitzel plate and it was nothing like we expected . The beef tongue was tough and in a brown gravy as was the schnitzel which I expected to be breaded and fried. Our 2 friends only ordered 1 salad. We really should have left when we realized the communication gap was so problematic but I basically would leave this place for the locals.

She helped us out with which options were the best. I ordered a veal schnitzel, which was very delicious and piping hot. The breading was very light, buttery, and crispy. It wasn't oily. The veal was nice and tender. I like that the food wasn't too salty. The seasoning on the crispy fries were also very good. I also got to try the fondue, which was very delicious. To my surprise, it had a little bit of liquor in it, which gave it a nice deeper nuttier taste. The lamb was nice and tender and the accompanying vegetables weren't overcooked. This meal was filling, delicious and for a good price. looking at reviews of other restaurants in the area, there was a concern for quality and service.
