I had TWO excellent experiences with Owl Towing. My old 1978 Classic GMC ... dead on the road (after hours, of course) on the way to a family vacation in Cayucos. Good Sam hooked us up for the first visit with Owl. Everything was smooth sailing from there onward. Doug came in after hours and got us from Gaviota back to Santa Barbara. (He is based in Oxnard.) Santa Barbara service provider (AAMCO = another 5 Star rating) was honest and said he could not effectively work the needs this old girl required. Needing a 2nd tow, I contacted Owl Towing to handle the tow for the remainder of the trip to my home in Altadena. Turns out, Doug, my original driver was off that day. Unbeknownst to me, the owner called Doug (as I inquired about his availability) and Doug clocked in ON HIS DAY OFF to come out and pick up this Naughty Bad Monkey. He left Oxnard, drove to Santa Barbara, delivered her spotlessly to Altadena to my home where we could handle the job in peace, then returned himself to Oxnard. Talk about good old fashioned service, phonecall in, phonecall out, handled in the same day. I am so grateful. This second tour was a 7 hour door to door turnaround job and handled with complete perfection and knowledge for the front wheel drive/12,000 pound vehicle they were entrusted with. I was involved in an accident and CHP dispatched this company to the site. I had a great experience with the driver, who we later found out was the business owner. We were quoted $300 for the tow which we agreed to and were encouraged to reach out to companies that might give cash for the car. When my mother picked up the car she was told the bill was over double what we were previously quoted. Stated the storage fee was $74 per day. This was not disclosed to us and I attempted to pay and pick up the car sooner but the yard is closed on weekends so I was provided no further options. My mother paid the bill with my card and I reached out requesting a breakdown of costs. After no response I called and spoke with a combative associate who chose not listen to my concerns but tell me that I was at fault for misunderstanding the policies although there is no place to reference the verbal agreement. I still haven't received an emailed receipt and the phone conversation left a sour taste in my mouth. I expressed concerns of the change in price and I don't believe they were appropriately addressed. For this reason I would not choose to work with this company again. As previously noted, I had a great experience with the business owner and I don't believe this experience was a reflection of him or the business as a whole but the quality of customer service over the phone was enough to deter me from future services if they were needed. read more

I don't think anyone wants to have to deal with a tow yard. That means something didn't go quite right. We just had to deal with Owl Towing for a work-related vehicle accident. Although we called for information at 745am and they don't open until 8am our call was still answered. We called back at 8am as instructed and they were very helpful in locating our vehicle and with additional information as to the condition of the car, the paperwork needed to retrieve the car and costs involved. We arrived the same day to have the vehicle removed and they made process quite easy. Being that we were about 1 1/2 hours away, it was reassuring to know they know what they are doing. read more

Owl charged $258 to tow me a couple miles ... the next day it was $328 and they said 'Pay it or you will pay for storage and go to collections" very nasty. Cold hearted. Stay away from these crooks! read more

I don't normally have great experiences with tow truck services in Ventura County but this is definitely an exception. Great friendly and helpful dispatcher (which seems to be rare). They got to me quickly and the driver was also helpful and efficient. They also charged a lower price than any other tow company i called. If there was a way to give this place a zero or a negative I would have. Super unprofessional and an immediate waste of time. When asking for info the man was very rude, I had to ask him multiple times to speak up because I could not hear him. By the fourth time I had to ask him to repeat himself I asked why it was so hard to communicate, when it turns out he was displaying dangerous behavior by driving and talking on the phone. He gave me little to no info at all and mainly wasted my time. So here I am with no info on why my car was towed when it was parking in front of my grandpas house. If this is the type of negligence I had to deal with on the phone wish me luck when I have to go in person. read more
