Food is always decent but the waitresses are awful unless you are a "regular". The one we had today was awful. She threw the menus down not saying a word then literally came back less than 30 seconds later and sighed cause we weren't ready to order yet. Once she came back she just goes "ya what do you want?" This place is what a diner should be. i've only been for breakfast but i agree with all the other posts. i have to give a shout out to the dutton st. omelet. seriously, that thing should never have been invented much less made, but i'm sure glad someone had the balls to put it on a menu! an omelet filled with corned beef hash, oh yeah, that's right. only negative is that on more than one occasion, half my home fries have been scorched and the other half uncooked. oh and don't be deterred by the crowds on the weekend, they get you seated and fed tout d'suite. i still don't understand how they can do it so quickly. read more

This place is a classic and consistently serves the best breakfast in the Lowell area. The prices and portions are very reasonable and the quality of product is about as good as it gets. Cannot say enough about this place. The service is excellent and I personally have visited the Owl Diner over 30x in the last 3 years and have not once had to wait for a table regardless of my party's size. If you do stop in: try the specials, especially the Steak-bomb omelet. It includes a ton of steak and is absolutely perfect for someone who eats more than the average person (like myself). Also try the grilled coffee roll because @ $2.50 it is a steal. Moist, tasty and like everything at the Owl, it's huge. Overall you have to stop in if your in the area. This place is fantastic. I'm a student at Middlesex so I'm a few minutes away. Me and my friend discovered this place when we were driving around and we have become regulars. We walk in and they already know what we will get. I absolutely love the Gorham St omelette!! My friend always gets the middlesex st. We literally can't eat anywhere else when it comes to omelettes because we love these so much. Super friendly staff and great environment. I don't see myself ever leaving this place! read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! The owner is rude, the food is decent but the portions are small and the service sucks. One time after we ordered our meal they brought out our food and there was two eggs on it and a piece of toast. The waiter told us they ran out of homefries and still charged full price for the meal. Wicked cheap, awesome wait staff, and yummy diner food. I order a chicken fajita omelet and I've never eaten anything like it. Best part is the salsa. My Family went to the Owl Diner Easter Sunday and as we pulled up the Easter Bunny greeted us and gave each of my three daughters a lolly pop. This set a wonderful mood for all of us and it seems the other patrons were equally affected. The mood inside was very pleasant but not overly boisterous. I ordered a Chelmsford street omelet which was delicious and my wife had bacon & eggs. She was very pleased with her order of over easy eggs - which is very high praise from my wife. My daughters each had pancakes in one form or another and nobody finished everything. The service at the "Owl' is always good but on Easter it was exceptional and the food delicious. Theres nothing like waking up hungover on Sunday morning and heading down to the diner. Their breakfast is always fast, fairly priced and delicious. Love everything from the omelets to their pancakes. They very cleverly name all of their omelets after we'll known streets in Lowell. Our waitress seemed nice but as we ordered drinks she brought them out by slamming it on the table. I had asked how many pieces comes on the jumbo French toast to which I was informed was 4(which was 6 not 4) so wrong information but whatever. She then took our order and brought the French toast out before the rest of the order was done. So we sit there for a while (it was 1pm on a Wednesday so they weren't very busy) and the service and cook are very slow and when she brings the rest of the food as she slams the plate down the toasted slipped out and and got butter on my white shirt. She then got us syrup and hit my elbow while at it. Okay, let's move on the prices... they don't have any combos or specials where you can get French toast or pancakes with your typical eggs and toast on the side. You need to order French toast or pancakes separate from eggs, toast and bacon. The hash browns were burnt and soggy. I don't know what kind of syrup they have but it wasn't "normal" tasting syrup. Prices are way too high for the quality not matching it. I gave this 3 stars because the decor and tables were clean and the kid who picked up our plates was very polite. Very disappointed. From all the other positive reviews I thought this be so good but guess not. But if you're looking for great service as well as good prices and services I suggest the Corner cafe!! read more

Lowell is a unique place, and this diner matches the city's vibe - an assortment of families, blue-collar workers, scruffy random people, and the odd politician. Everyone seems to know everyone and the waitresses are no-nonsense and friendly in that traditional New England diner way. As for the food, I've only ever had breakfast here. Got the Eggs Benedict once, which was a mistake - they were cold and the sauce was lumpy. I've stuck to omelets since, and they're delicious, 'specially with homefries ladled with cheese and onions. MMM! Overall, a tasty diner experience. Parking can be a hassle (there's a tiny parking lot), but there's some street parking and if memory serves, a larger lot next door. Agree with other reviewers who recommend trying to sit in the older trolley car area instead of the sterile-looking dining room. read more

The Owl Dinner has really great food and the entire staff is always very friendly. There one of the best dinners in the area no doubt.

If you choose to dine here, stick to the breakfast and brunch staples. Our waitress was nice but overwhelmed. I do not fault her for any of the following. It took us close to 40 minutes to get our order of two "sandwiches". The burger was dry and inedible. I ordered the "Hot chicken sandwich". What eventually arrived was an open faced thanksgiving dinner plate. 2 slices of toast topped with what I have to image was sliced turkey. The rest of the plate of my "hot chicken sandwich" was comprised of mashed potatoes, peas, a side of cranberry sauce, and all slathered in gravy. When ordering a "hot chicken sandwich" one assumes deep fried chicken with a spicy sauce of some sort. Naturally, being confused by the festive platter placed in front of me, I inquired if this was a mistake. I asked my original waitress to confirm if this was the "hot chick sandwich" I had ordered. She honestly replied, "I have no idea." She then inquired with an older, possibly more senior staff member, if what was placed in front of me was a "hot chicken sandwich." The other staff member replied, "Y ea, it's open faced." Because my lunch break was running short on time, I was desperately hungry, and I was not about to start an argue in a very seedy part of a strange town, I stuffed the slab on a shingle down my throat. This was not chicken, not hot, and not a sandwich. If I am wrong, then I apologize. I have traveled around the country and this would be the first time I have ever received "hot chicken" with a side of peas and cranberry sauce. read more

Whatever is happening to the Owl? Been going there on and off for years. Saturday morning was a disaster -- burned, charred potatoes; "scrambled" eggs that had to have been liquified the day before; their famous ham an imposter. The waiter never asked, just delivered the three orders, turned on (and up) the TV, which he did lower the volume when asked, brought the check, left us sitting there with dirty dishes and uneaten food. . . . The cashier said we should have sat in the diner part, which has a "dedicated" chef who puts out good food, that the "restaurant" part had a sub-crew. Well, there wasn't an empty booth in the diner part. . . . Maybe the four sisters have died or are in mourning? I see no reason to go back, and if you get the same lousy food and service, you won't either. read more
