Well, I really wanted to like this place. I love the atmosphere. I am a huge fan of reusing and…read morecelebrating old buildings. The choices that seem to have gone into the reuse of materials and the decorating style get 5 stars from me. The two staff members we interacted with couldn't have been any nicer or more attentive. From the first greeting to saying goodbye, they were great. The plate presentation was unusual, but very attractive. All of that said, this is still a restaurant. I had a Brisket Burger. The burger itself on the pretzel roll was ok, but the Brisket..... I have lived in Texas all of my life. I have had Brisket from some truly talented pit masters, and I always judge it by the tenderness, smoke ring, and bark. This was mushy and wet (not moist, more like it was boiled?) and very pale with little taste. If this did start as Brisket, then what was done to it is borderline criminal. Overheard another customer talking to the owner (I believe), commenting on the unusual choice of cornbread waffles with the Chicken Fried Chicken, and her response was that she was from "up North", and didn't understand "Texas Toast" served down here. Maybe that is the issue. When you hear a name like "Let's Eat Texas" you are expecting food cooked a certain way, with a certain taste. Maybe they should rename it "Let's Eat New Jersey", at least then you would know what you were getting into.

They describe it as a "recreational" cooking class, which means there is some light cooking involved but they've done a lot of the heavy lifting which takes the stress out of the experience and maximizes enjoyment. There were about 15 people total in the class. It's BYOB and they give you all the recipes after. We attended the New American Mediterranean class. Menu items included strawberry gazpacho, an arugula salad, carrot hummus, lovely grilled chicken marinated in Mediterranean spices, and berry ricotta tarts for dessert. Each item was more epic than the last. My girlfriend and I agreed that this was the best meal we've had in a long time. Absolutely delicious! We can't wait to try some of the recipes at home, and attend another cooking class (possibly the Italian one!) soon.

Freda's Kitchen - Iron Chef Review…read more We engaged Ashley and her team to create an Iron Chef style event for our family of fifteen ages 5-84 over the holidays. They did an absolutely incredible job! Ashley made sure every detail was taken care of and coordinated the entire event flawlessly. Ashley's team members (Kyle, Kristin, Holly and Chef Uyen Pham) were all exceptionally professional and they ensured it was a wonderful experience for everyone involved. Although the final results are still under protest (just kidding). We highly recommend Freda's Kitchen for anyone looking for something different whether it be a team building or in our case a family event. We also held it at Wilson's Appliance in Dripping Springs who were gracious in allowing to use their top of line equipment in their model kitchens.

Our chef and her assistant were…read morereally friendly and down-to-earth, and they gave an introduction letting us know about their business and why they started it, which gave some meaning to what we were doing. The space where we ate was gorgeous and felt like we were dining in someone's beautiful home. Half our group was running late (30 minutes!) due to the marathon closing off some roads, and they still gave us our full experience. FYI, it is BYO here! If we had known earlier, we would have brought our own additional drinks, but they did serve us wine. The kitchen was a little cramped for 14 of us, and compared to other cooking classes I've done, it was a little ad-hoc getting everyone organized. They didn't have a pre-set number of people for each station, and with only 2 staff, they were stretched a little thin helping everyone. It all worked out, but it was a little slow figuring out who would do what, with rough last minute estimates on how many people were needed at each spot. Still, our food was great, we all learned some new kitchen skills (though the chef did help us quite a bit to get us there!), and we had a fun time! There were tons of leftovers too.

I am…read moretrying to incorporate more veggies into my diet, but knew I would need some help making them more exciting and flavorful. The class was a public class taught at Chef Amber's beautiful home, and I was joined by 9 other people eager to become more "green". Chef Amber was super personable, friendly, and clearly passionate about teaching us how to make healthy food that we want to eat, that is nutritious, and quick enough to put together for a weeknight dinner. I not only came away with 5 recipes I feel comfortable recreating on my own (and a multitude of variations, thank you!), but also picked up some knife skills, tips on kitchen utensils to use, tricks on how to store garlic and make my own veggie broth and so much more. Additionally, the atmosphere and vibe at Chef Amber's allows you to feel very comfortable asking questions, sharing life stories, cracking jokes (maybe that's due to the wine?), and overall having a ton of fun. I've already made a few of the recipes, Sunflower & Kale Pesto with Crudite and Kale Salad with Toasted Almonds, Avocado and Lemon Vinaigrette, for friends that we've had over and both received rave reviews. I highly recommend this class to anyone that is interested in eating great tasting food that makes you feel good. This class is not just for vegetarians! There were a few people in this class who had formerly shunned veggies and they came away the most excited about this experience. Can't wait to try out more recipes!
