Had take out during the pandemic and was unimpressed, however, had lunch in store recently and it was a totally different experience. Greeted upon arriving and ordered at counter. We sat down inside and we're served our food with bbq sauce and ketchup for Cajun fries. Ordered a brisket with Mac & cheese and pulled pork sandwich with Cajun fries. Both came with cole slaw. Both sandwiches had a healthy portion of meat that had a definite smoky flavor. They were both dry smoked, on other words, no sauce. We added the sauce (spicy or mild) and it perfectly complimented the meat on a fresh Kaiser roll. The m&c was not super creamy but it was good as were the fries and coleslaw. The five of us shared two triple combo platters will 3 sides each for just $26 total. Great value. Let's break down the combo platter: Chicken - Absolutely delicious - smoked to perfection, juicy but not overly fatty, herb- and spice-rubbed skin. Fabulous. Beans - Straight out of a can, no joke. Potato salad - Really good, didn't overly rely on mayonnaise dressing. Had some rosemary in it. Cole slaw - Chopped tiny, runny dressing, but definitely tasty. Brisket - Fall apart tender, but sorely in need of sweet BBQ sauce. Pulled pork - Tasty and tender, but could have used some BBQ sauce. The food was a huge disappointment for me and my friends. We had been wanting to try this place for a while and with all these positive reviews it looked good. Unfortunately these reviews are misleading. The price for the food is quite high for the small servings they give and the chicken I ordered had a weird taste to it. As someone who makes BBQ food and has eaten authentic BBQ food, this was a huge disappointment. I wouldn't waste my time again for the terrible food and rude customer service. We are very happy that this place upgraded from a roadside food cart to an actual building, a rather humble building, but still better than roadside. The BBQ is very good, love the ribs, pulled pork and chicken. The brisket has varied but when it's good it's really good. My only complaints have to do with the side dishes. The cole slaw is a bit odd (not sure how to describe it but "not fresh" comes to mind) and the baked beans are like candy. I really, really, really wish they would add a good mac & cheese option to the menu. Green salad and corn bread are both good and I tend to stick to those. The pies are a bit meh, although my family tends not to be big pie fans- so others might think differently. If they add a good mac & cheese I would bump it up a star. Overall, if you haven't been to Outpost I would definitely recommend you give it a try. read more

Seldom coleslaw is the best thing at a resturant. That was the case today. I ordered half a rack of ribs and two sides. Mac and cheese was just bland as I said coleslaw great. Didn't think I really got half rack of ribs Usually this would be a disappointment not today left some on the plate.Just not tasty at all. My buddy ordered brisket. Came chopped up like pulled pork not in nice slices. Made no difference really not good. Cucumber salad with his just ok. Cornbread mediocre at best. Wanted a new bbq place. This place is one of the beet BBQ you could have!! The people are so sweet and friendly. We were hiking all day and wanted something on the way back and we came across this place, thank god. We passed Outpost BBQ many times during our week of adventures in and around Ellenville and Cragsmoor. And wow, we are very glad we decided to stop and give it a try! First of all, the food was really delicious! We have great BBQ at home, so we are a bit picky to be truthful. This place exceeded our expectations! The chicken and brisket were moist, the fish was lightly breaded and nicely seasoned, the sides were all yummy, and the drink options were beyond the usual. The staff was also really nice and welcoming. There were multiple seating options, and plenty of room for the toddler in our group to wander about happily. This place is the absolute bees knees. I always swing through Kerhonkson on Thursday's or Friday's for work and I NEVER miss on opportunity to stop in. I am from the south and I know my way around bbq; truth is, if it needs sauce- it ain't good bbq. Now I'm sure the sauce here is great (wouldn't know I've never had it) but this meat is so damn good, you do not need sauce and I encourage you to go without. I've tried most of the menu, haven't had a complaint yet. Corn bread is as close to my grandmothers that I've come across this far north and the strawberry-rhubarb pie really is the icing on the cake. Super-friendly lady in the shack, we took 3 combo platters for our 2 adult, 2 kid family group. Food was great. Not world-beating, but given the context, really tasty and well cooked. IMO, the pulled pork (pure deliciousness) was best, followed by the brisket (moist and tasty if a little black in color) and then the chicken (a little bland). The sides, we had beans (nice, but uninspiring), potato salad (pretty plain) and coleslaw (fresh, crunchy, but not exciting). This was our favorite place to eat while in town for a climbing trip! We got our food fast, the staff was friendly, and everyone loved their meals. Highly recommend the chicken quesadilla. i ate a lot of bbq throughout my life but my husband considers himself as a bbq connoisseur. we both liked the pork bbq at outpost. they have 4 kinds of sauces (sweet, hot, buffalo, ketchup) available on each table. the side salad was so good and somewhat unique. the coleslaw was mayonnaise-based and tangy (just the way i like it). at the end i could not resist trying their cornbread. it was moist and sweet. this place is very comfortable, unpretentious and cozy. it seems to be a family-run business. the service was great and we felt like this was a superb choice for lunch in the area. read more
