We stayed in an ocean front house and paid big money to do so. We had a myriad of problems. We arrived to the heat not working and broken (it was in the dead of winter) and we arrived late at night. It was freezing. The fireplace had ZERO propane. They didn't prepare for our visit despite having 2 months to do so. I specifically asked for a fireplace since it was winter. I was told they forgot to fill it with propane and oh well. They didn't give a rats ass. They couldn't get a propane truck out there that week. The windows were filthy so all those beautiful windows with ocean views were a waste. Rust on speakers and rust on fixtures. This was a 10 bedroom house with an elevator and it looked like crap to see things covered in rust Pool was uncovered and filthy. Not only is this a hazard for small children which we have its just gross looking out at the ocean and having to see filth and dirt in the pool. The walkway to the beach (had our own private walkway) was covered in so much sand you couldn't get the gate open from the pool deck. The banisters had duck tape holding the wooden rails up. Kitchen sink leaked and sprayed water Mattresses were awful and hard. There was I kid you not FOOD under the couch. Actual food. Gross When I called to complain and voice my concerns Debbie couldn't have given a shit less. She didn't call me back. Didn't try to make things right. Didn't even care. And why should she, she already had my money and I paid thousands to rent this for the week. That was what disappointed me most. Their total lack of care and regard. Here's another point. I'm a homeowner down in the OBX. We have a home we also rent. We've been homeowners down here and know what guests expect. Before this visit we were going To use them to manage our home. After this visit we decided we would never allow them to manage our home. Their lack of care and concern for their guests is a big red flag. How can we trust them to take care of guests who rent our home when they didn't even care about our concerns? I wouldn't want my renters treated this way. Rented home in Rodanthe for the first week of October (Saturday to Saturday rental). Informed Friday afternoon, while driving from Michigan (with several other family members driving separately) to the rental home that the home was damaged during tidal surge. Outer Banks Blue had to cancel our reservation and no other homes available to provide to us. We had no choice but to turn around and return home. Outer Banks Blue would NOT refund payment for their cancelation. They got to keep our money for a reservation that they canceled (not us). Thank god we paid for travel insurance. Been fighting with insurance company to get reimbursed for payment several weeks later. Cannot believe that a company can treat their customers in this manner. read more

Pubic hair in the bathroom, dirty dishes, food left in the freezer, was told by the rental company that the owner had been using the house and must have been missed on the cleaning, carpet run into the bathroom, sheets had been slept in, had housekeeping out twice to clean and she admitted the home had not been cleaned. We are in times of COVID and a rental house hasn't been cleaned! I have photos of everything. The rental company offered 250.00 toward our next stay, crazy to think we will stay anywhere with this company again. She has a video of our stay after we left early on Wednesday!! She said the house was in great condition, lol, I guess we left it better than we found it. What a dumb statement to make. We stayed at Slates beach haven. Out of all rental companies we've used so far we really liked this one. They were easy to deal with and fixed our issues. I didn't love the fact that our early check in was cancelled and we weren't notified but with everything going on we were fine to work around that issue. The house had a few problems with breakers blowing but that's not the companies fault and they helped to get the issues resolved. The house was nice and clean except the bathrooms could have been a little cleaner but I like the fact that you're not expected to clean the whole house like we've had with other companies. The linens and towels being provided was a huge plus for us. If we'd decide to stay up on the main area again we'd rent with this company. The no pet fees is great and was a huge reason we went with this company. Our main issues was the hot tub was set in eco mode and so we had to wait till the next day to use it because it took hours to hit temperature. I'm not sure why that's done and nothing is posted about it. The bathrooms weren't the cleanest The jacuzzi tub didn't work and was filthy when I did get it to work for like 2 minutes The breaker blew for the hot tub and we had to wait for it to reset to use it again I hated the fact that even with an elevator you still had to go up steps to get into the house because there was no key to access the first floor. As busy as it was in the OBX this year though we can overlook the majority of what happened. Just make it easier to get into houses with an elevator and give keys to the first floor door. The furniture needs replaced or a couple foot stools added would be nice. The house needed more kitchen supplies. There wasn't many pots and pans and almost no bigger bowls. Like I said though it was so busy and this was in September and during Covid. We'd rent the house again and rent with this company again. Also a carpet shampooer in pet friendly houses would be a huge help for if they have accidents. read more

We recently stayed at a beautiful property managed by outer banks blue. To say I wasted $5000.00 dollars on a vacation is a little harsh, but I honestly feel that way. The house we rented was filthy. The layout of the home has bedrooms on the first floor and then common space on the second floor. The first floor seemed clean enough- though there was blood on my sheets (they did address and fix this) but the second floor which is the common area was FILTHY. The kitchen counters weren't wiped, the floors weren't swept or mopped; the ceilings fans all had a thick coating of gross on them- the ceiling in the great room was coated with cobwebs and dead bugs. The high chair was disgusting. There was trash under all the furniture in the living room- couches, chair, coffee table, the area rug in the great room was filthy I had a really hard time allowing my 1 year old on the floor- it was cringeworthy. The sliding glass doors looked like they were washed with dirty hands dipped in oil The washer smells like roadkill. If you looked out any windows on the back of the property there is garbage and old junk in the yard. The owners of this home are selling their selves short by allowing this company to manage their property. The solution they offered was to send a cleaning crew to the home after we had just got there and spent the last 13 hours in the car which we declined and spent 2 hours cleaning it ourselves. As a business owner- I offer a lot of grace to people where it is deserved. But this situation deserves no leniency or grace...it's not like one of the mentioned things happened, it's like the cleaning crew came and never even stepped foot in the second floor which is absolutely unacceptable- period. They didn't offer a cent back to us or any other apology for this terrible misstep. Imagine spending $5000.00 and then having to clean and then also having to consider whether they actually cleaned anything at all the entire vacation. It was gross. It ruined our trip, period. I was so heated I snapped photos and I am choosing to only share a few of them- the one of all the dirt a swept up 15 minutes after we arrived really shows I am not being dramatic. But if you own the Sandy Peach in Duck, please consider giving the duties of managing the property to someone else. Your home is beautiful but if they continue to let this sort of stuff go, your house will need a serious deep clean and sanitize that will cost a fortune. read more

Tropical dream...not such a dream. Let's start with the price of $7,000 for a week in this home from 6/29/19 to 7/6/19. Please keep that price in mind when you read my honest, accurate review. An incorrect description on their website caused us to have two guests in our party with no place to sleep on the first night. The website states there is a queen "sleeper sofa" on the upper level but that couch does not have a sleeper sofa. The company resolved the issue by delivering a queen air mattress the following day, however this was after they requested that we send them a screen shot of the inaccurate sleeper sofa description that was on their website. That should have been our first sign that something was amiss with this company. Why would we need to send them a description that they wrote on their own website? So on day two we noticed the pool was dirty. We had to make a call about that. They sent someone out to clean the pool by the following day but can you see how this might not be such a "tropical dream?" We noticed the pool got very dirty by day 4/5 which indicated that the pool, which has no covering or screen, should be cleaned twice a week. When this was brought to the attention of the management, he insisted the pool company did come out twice within the week. However it was clear that the skimmer for the pool was full of bugs and the pool had a huge assortment of floating bugs in it. He continues to insist that it was serviced twice that week. I suggested to him that the pool company is not giving him accurate information. There is no way they came out to clean that pool twice. On day 4 the ac seemed to be not working well on the 3rd level. On day 5 it seemed to clearly not be working. We called on day 5 but the outer banks manager said he has no record of the message we left about this. We also emailed about the issue. They sent someone out to fix it after the email but they refuse to compensate us for the ac issue as they feel it was addressed within 24 hours of the email (and conveniently he has no record of my phone call which was the day before the email). The house temperature went up to 88 degrees which was hotter than it was outside. Apparently a coil was broken, there was a freon problem and also we witnessed the ac filter being changed and it was clear it hasn't been changed for a very very long time as it was filthy. Clearly this house has not been properly maintained on a regular basis. After speaking with the very rude and dismissive customer service manager (who suggested that even if I showed him a screenshot that I called about the ac that, according to him, I still can't "prove" that I left a message about the ac). He suggested that I could prove it if I could provide him with the voicemail, which would mean I would have had to record myself leaving him a voicemail. I asked for the contact information for whoever is over him. He said the person over him is the president of the company and he refused to give me the phone number or email of the president. Does that seem like an appropriate way to handle a customer? In the end we have received a $150 refund for our troubles (for a week that was priced at $7,000). Firstly, the company quickly sent people to come and clean our rental right after we called to complain. So for that, they should get credit. However, the place was gross. It was totally unkempt and clearly hadn't been thoroughly cleaned for a looooong time. And 99% furnishings and decor appeared original, stains and dust and all. There were blood stains on the interior beddings, cobwebs and squished bugs everywhere. The were things outside like charcoal and beer cans, leftover from the previous renters. It was dirty and gross and my family and I were shocked and disgusted. However they cleaned the furnishings and rug and brought us new linens which allowed us to stay there more comfortably. Cleaning was the only option we were given. The exterior of the house was in bad shape too. The metal fixtures that hold the joists in place were rusted on all three levels of decks with the top deck having many rusted through! A strong wind and then deck may fly off. My impression was that the owners were cheap and are using a management company that doesn't require any upkeep and cleaners of the same caliber. We won't be renting from them again. We've had positive experiences with a different company in the OBX. read more

When we were about to check into our house, we were called by Outer Banks Blue to say that the house had bedbugs. The staff of Outer Banks Blue proceeded to say they were looking for a new house for us. We paid for an oceanfront house and they told us there were no houses available. We asked them to please check with other realtors, which they eventually did, but only after much coaxing from our family. Finally, they got us in touch with Twiddy who were very responsive and got us a house in Corolla. However, this house was not anywhere near the ocean could not even see the ocean from the house. The Twitty representative told us that she was never told by Outer Banks Blue that we had paid for an oceanfront house. The next day she got us a beautiful oceanfront house. Needless to say Outer Banks Blue lacked customer service of any kind. we ended up going to their office and had to pound on the door. They proceeded to have a a conversation with us through a locked door. I eventually told them to please come out and speak to us or have us come in. Eventually they came out and spoke to us overall it was a horrific experience and I will never recommend this company or use them again. We have been vacationing in the Outer Banks for 30 years and this was the most disastrous of any time we have gone. Very poor customer service--never use this company to book your vacation! Outer Banks Blue has management problems. Their "premium" property Celestial Seasuns is one of the most unappealing houses we have rented in 30 years of renting on OBX, including at Southern Shores, Duck, and many other houses in Corolla. Another review mentions this house -- and it should be avoided. We rented here just 2 weeks ago over the 4th of July weekend, 2023. BAD smell when we entered. OBB did not check it out after texts complaining about "dead mouse smell." Finally, I realized it was a PROPANE GAS smell. Called 911 -- Firefighters responded immediately and said it was dangerous and eventually located rusted, corroded valves to turn it off. Said OBB should have recognized the smell. Spent the next 5 days dealing with trying to cook without a cooktop. Microwave was broken as were several electric burners placed around the kitchen (obviously there have been problems in the past if they needed these). The burners did not work if you used more than one of them -- some sort of circuit breaker would trip. The gas grill had not been cleaned in months and though we tried to clean it, when we turned it on there was a flash fire. Very dangerous, and we were told by OBB that we, the new renters, were responsible to clean it -- they do not do it. Many other hazards such as water not draining from outdoor shower (which was filthy), flooding area where people had to walk, disgusting rusted outdoor toilet which barely flushed after pumping handle 10 times, broken and sharp tiles around and on the pool where you could cut your hands, and dunes reclaimed the back of the house so there is no walkway/stairs to the beach. You had to walk up, over and down the dunes with all equipment which was very difficult. The dune could not be negotiated by more elderly people in our group. These are only a few of the issues -- broken washer/dryer, hurricane shutters closing off some windows cannot be raised, lights not working, remotes to TV missing, and much more. This house could be lovely but it is totally neglected and now it is dangerous with propane leak. We were breathing that in for 3 days and it can make you sick. OBB gave us back part of our deposit after repeated calls, texts, and emails. I sent a complaint to the BBB of Hampton Roads, but got an email from them today saying OBB never responded to their inquiries. This is no way to do business and Mr. Cafferty did not respond to my emails either. We spent the entire week (me and my grown daughter) dealing with workers from the Propane gas company who tried to find the leak inside the house and could not find the propane tank in the yard, texting/calling/emailing OBB and getting very little response except from Gary, a maintenance man who tried his best to correct many things the first day (toilet seat falling off, electric lights not working in bathroom, bedroom door lock broken, etc.) The only good thing about the week was the weather. Most of the party stayed on the beach for the better part of the day and they had a great time. And the A/C did work, as did the 2 dishwashers, and 1 of the 2 washers and dryers, thank goodness. Again, this house could be very lovely if it was renovated and the owner actually took responsibility and used the $13,000+ per week rent to maintain a safe property. We requested when we left the house that the next renters be informed immediately about the condition of the house and the gas leak. This leak had not been fixed because the final gas company representative I spoke with told me that "walls have to be taken out" to repair it. We requested that NO family be allowed to come into the house after us, but when I talked to OBB about that question when we were discussing our "settlement," they refused to tell me if another family had arrived the day we left. read more

We have rented through Outer Banks Blue 3 times. They were always prompt to respond to any problem. Any interaction with an employee was always friendly. The process to book and check in is pretty seamless. That being said, for our particular rental, called 5 Lucky Ducks-the condition of the home is not representative of real conditions. (We have rented this home before and it has declined since last visit) The exterior appeared clean and maintained online-it was not. The house has been neglected. The outside decking and wood railings look derelict. The appearance leads you to believe it has never been treated with a stain or the like to preserve the integrity. The porches were dirty, the outside chairs were dirty. The inside of the house was dirty. The upstairs living room/kitchen floor was filthy, and worn. There was so much build up of gunk on it, that I couldn't get it clean. The main floor master bathroom had mold and was poorly ventilated. The carpet was dirty. Inside of drawers and kitchen cabinets had dirt and crumbs. We never felt comfortable there. I could go on... When I complained to Outer Banks Blue- I spoke in the context of their integrity to make sure of cleanliness and attention to the quality and comfort of the home. They didn't address anything. The response was a generic "Thanks for the feedback and we will let housekeeping know." A good cleaning will help, but I doubt based on the condition that it has never recently, and won't get that. I feel lead to believe that Outer Banks Blue does not balance the bottom line with maintaining or making the owners maintain the quality and cleanliness of their homes. The amount you pay for a week to rent these places is no small fee. Outer Banks Blue should do better. We will not rent from them again since I do not believe you can trust their online descriptions of the homes, or their ability to maintain them properly. read more

Our vacation was completely ruined by this company. We knew we were in trouble when we showed up and the AC was blasting at 65 degrees in an attempt to cover the mold smell. The electric lock began to have issues on day 2 and we had to call to get that fixed in order to re enter the house. We immediately noticed patches all over the ceiling and a work order for leaks fixed from the week before. It's clear this house was riddled with water issues. By day 3 we were forced to leave after the ceiling began crumbling down onto the bedroom and family room. We were refunded a pittance and lost money on groceries bought that had to be thrown away, rented umbrellas and chairs, pet sitters. This company is directly responsible for the deplorable conditions and ruined our much needed family vacation . Don't do business with this Slum Lord company, we wasted money and time and won't be making that mistake again. read more

It seemed like every other thing we touched in the house was broken or damaged. At one point, the seat of the picnic bench on the deck broke while my sister and toddler were sitting on it. They never showed up for repairs, although they assured us a repair had been scheduled. The house was semi-clean, but some parts were very dirty. In general, the house was very worn and clearly in need of a renovation Some areas on the deck did not seem very stable. Casa Blaca, Nags Head. Bed Bugs. What more can you say. Arrived at 4pm on a Saturday. Upon arrival, as always, I inspected each bedroom for bed bugs. As I do this for a profession, I pulled about the beds, the mattress, box springs, bed frame, head boards and other items in the rooms. As this home had 1 bedroom in the basement, 4 on the second level and one on the top. All four bedrooms on the middle level showed signs of bed bugs. Two of the rooms had live bed bugs, which had recently feed, most likely the guests the week prior. The other two rooms found dead bed bugs, shed skins and bed bug eggs. We contacted the management company immediately. The manager on call responded quickly, she was friendly, stated she was sorry we were dealing with the issue and she would look to get it handled and call back. Over the course of four hours, we heard from her and her manager, about a game plan. They were unable to get a pest company out to treat that night, and promised first thing in the morning. They stated to find a hotel for the night to stay, for us to pay for it and they would reimburse us. Not a great plan, but they stated they had no other homes available to move us, 5 adults, two toddlers into that night. Next morning. No call from the manager at 9a as promised, i had to reach out to them. He stated their pest control company could not come out until the afternoon and that the solution might be to move to another home (from another management company) to Corolla, which was 15+ miles away. Mind you, we rented this specific home because we had 12 other family members in a home next door. The pest guy showed up, confirmed the bed bugs and he would reach out to the offices to figure next step, but stated he didn't think he had time to treat that day. We are quickly approaching 24 hours since the issue was reported. As an agreed upon solution was not being provided, I had to drive to the rental office, and spend 2 hours of my vacation time talking to the manager Terry and the man in charge, Bill. As they only work with one pest company, they didnt reach out to other companies, who could have come out that morning and solved the problem. Instead, they assumed that my family would not want to stay in the home and that we would move to the Corolla home, assuming. After refusing to leave the office without a solution, they managed to get the company to go out and treat, at 5p that day, now over 24 hours after arrival. They informed us we could not stay in the home that night, and would once again need to find a hotel, and pay for it upfront. The next morning we were promised that cleaning would come by at 10a, to drop off new sheets and towels. 12:30p, they arrived, no phone call from Terry, nothing. At this point, my family has not been able to use the house we rented for two nights, we are personally out $$$$ by renting these hotel rooms, and the lack of customer service by the rental company was poor. bed bugs, no one wants to see them upon arrival for a week long vacation and then have a poor experience with the rental company. I would not stay in the house, nor use the rental company, word to the wise. There is a reason why you always see 3-4 of the "big guys" in the rental business down there, because they know what they are doing and take care of their customers. read more

We stayed at Creola, which overall was nice but I have never in my life seen so many spiders. We are not talking hundreds, we are talking thousands. They completely took over the porch spaces, every time we cleared them away to try to enjoy the ocean air, they came back in droves. The house itself was quite nice but we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the ocean air and it was just impossible, a real damper on a beach vacation! Outer banks blue did get someone out to do a soft wash of the exterior, but really this house needed to be tented or something similar in order to make the outdoor spaces usable. read more

So, the first review was written by an employee of Outer Banks Blue, so... let me be the first reviewer who is an actual customer. I rented a home through Outer Banks Blue, mostly because I found them to have pretty cheap rates for vacation rentals on the Outer Banks. They were easy to work with, as they do most of their communication electronically (including an electronic signature function on their contracts). One bad thing is, you can only pay them ONE TIME with a credit card. So, if you are paying a deposit with your card, you have to send them a check for the balance (which is due 30 days before you check in). If you want to pay with a credit card a second time, there is a charge of $50 extra dollars (!) to do so. As for the house we rented, it was NOT CLEANED up to the standards of other houses we've rented on the Outer Banks. For a home that had an ocean view as a selling point, the windows were so dirty we could not see through them. I spoke with a company representative about this, and they dismissed my concerns out of hand. But that wasn't the worst part... the worst was that most of the amenities listed with the house were broken and not in working order. We spent almost every day of our vacation on the phone trying to get things fixed, or dealing with servicepeople who came to the house to fix some of the things. It's not our job to do that! And the rub, the reps from Outer Banks Blue were extremely rude to us in addressing our concerns. I guess once they get your money, it's not important to them how the actual vacation goes or whether the house they've rented you is a complete catastrophe. I'm talking leaking plumbing, showers doors that don't close, non-working jacuzzi (which never worked or was fixed the ENTIRE time), lighting and electrical issues, refrigerator broken, and a disgustingly dirty pool... Like, a true brokedown palace! Also, they advertise that they provide towels and sheets, however, there weren't enough towels for the number of beds, nor were there any washcloths or other linens as stated. But that's a minor point. I will not use Outer Banks Blue again. Like I said, they were cheaper than the rest (hence 2 stars), but alas, you get what you pay for. read more

This was the second summer our large group (15+) rented through Outer Banks Blue, and we'd be thrilled to come back for a third vacation. For me, what sets them above other rental companies is their stellar customer service -- prompt response times, easy to contact via web chat or phone, and overall cheerfulness. Before we arrived, I must've called or emailed to ask at least a dozen different questions about the vacation home, and they were always very quick to get back to me. Another huge plus is that you check-in and check-out at the house; no need to swing by a rental office beforehand or afterwards to pick up or return keys. Do NOT rent the 8 bedroom Nags Head property named HIGH TIDE!!! It is not well maintained! We had issues with a puddle in the kitchen (ice maker was broken)! We paid for a heated pool and when we called Outer Bank Blue to report the noise we were told "no worries!" The pool heater fan broke and the property owner refused to repair the unit!! read more

A group of 10 friends rented "Tranquility Base" in Nag's Head thru Outer Banks Blue from Sept. 14 to 21, 2013. We had no problems. Thankfully I didn't see these reviews until after we returned from our vacation! Everything was handled online, including payment by electronic check at no additional charge. The key pad on the front door made check in very easy and we didn't have to worry about keys when we went out separately. The house was clean when we got there with enough sheets and towels for everyone. The only thing the kitchen needed were pot holders. We bought 2 and left them there. read more

We stayed at Sandfiddler that is managed by Outer Banks Blue from 6/29/19 thru 7/6/19. Upon the day of arrival, I received a text that there was an issue with some of the outlets on the 3rd floor of the house. They would be sending an electrician out on the Monday. On Monday, I received a text that they would not be sending an electrician out, but the owner's handy man to replace a ceiling fan that wasn't working. When I told him about the spotty lights/outlets working, he unlocked a door that had a breaker box behind it (that Outer Banks Blue didn't even know about) and flipped the breaker. Everything worked for a day - then there were more and more issues with lights/outlets on the 3rd floor. Then on the 7/4/19, we come back to the house after dinner and only one light worked on the 3rd floor - when I called the emergency number, I was told the only resolution for that time was to bring me flashlights. Very unacceptable! They did send someone out on that Friday - but they just unlocked the door and showed me what breaker to flip if needed. Still no professionals to handle the issue appropriately! After talking to the customer service manager, I was told that I wouldn't get a response about a partial refund of my money until after I had left the house and they had the chance to check out the house - well you guessed it - there would be no refund! They felt that there was nothing that had occurred that would constitute any for of refund. One of the kickers was the gas grill - it looked like the biggest fire hazard in the world!! We recently rented a beach home in early June through Outer Banks Blue that compelled me to write a review. I arrived with my wife and two teenage daughters around 7:30PM (more than 3 hours after check-in time) to the property, tired and hungry after a 6 hour drive, to find the property had not yet been cleaned. The bedrooms were unmade, the bathrooms and kitchen were dirty, and the place was otherwise unkempt. This was our first trip away from home since the pandemic started, so it was quite a shock to arrive to a property in this condition. After leaving several messages to the after-hours service, I received a call back from the night manager who offered to attempt to get a cleaning crew to our property that evening, but he was not able to confirm the timing. Given Covid restrictions, we had nowhere to go. In addition, we did not feel comfortable unpacking our things at that time, so we were stuck waiting around in the car for several hours. Eventually a crew did come, and cleaned the property, but did not finish until after 11:30PM that evening (the cleaning crew did a great job once they arrived, and we in no way faulted them, it was an honest oversight). I had expected a call from management the following morning with an apology and an offer to compensate us in some way for what was a pretty significant inconvenience not to mention a horrible way to start your vacation. I did not receive one. I eventually called them the next day and spoke with with the customer service manager - he was perfunctory but not particularly apologetic. He did not offer us anything, rather, he told me to write a letter at the end of our stay explaining what happened and "whatever other issues" we had and we could "negotiate compensation then". I wondered what other issues I was to expect. As a frequent business traveler, I consider that pretty awful customer service. Had we been staying with a major hotel chain and arrived 3 hours after check-in to an uncleaned room, we would have been immediately taken care of . After sending a letter when we returned home, in which I also mentioned that there were an unsettling number of roaches in the house that became more visible as the week wore on, I requested a refund of at least one night's stay (about $450), since we were not able to get our things moved in until after the crew left around midnight on the day of our arrival. OBB Management sent us a paltry offer of a $200 refund or $300 credit, which I found insulting, and refused to take either. We never got a further reply from management. I would strongly recommend you rent through a different company if you want better a customer experience than we had! read more

I spent my Thanksgiving Holiday at a vacation home called Calm in OBX and booked it with Outerbanksblue. This was my 4th or 5th rental through this company. My experience was horrific to say the least so be aware. The home I rented had broken items, missing lightbulbs, fireplace non operational(that they didn't disclose, but they are now). Horrible bedding in the master bedroom very uncomfortable. Shades falling down, weathered and old outdated furniture. Both the mac daddy of it all was that it was totally Cockroach infested not the small brown paper bad type but the large Palmetto cockroaches that are fearless. I tried to go about it diplomatically and file my complaint with Terry Gore, supervisor in charge of customer service, but was left with simple apologies and that this home will need to be determined if it is infested first. They sent their paid employee to assess. He filled a few holes and sprayed around the corners. This was worthless this home needed a full pest company to come in a fumigate it. They refused to move me and made my stay there hell. I had my infant 5 week old grandson there and my 89 year disabled mother to be dealing with unsanitary cockroaches crawling on the counters and running through the kitchen boldly and without fear. Needless to say, I am not happy and will never use them again. I contacted the owners directly and she agreed to refund me $500 of which I have never seen. This is not over yet. I would never rent this home and would never go to Outerbanksblue for a rental. Try an Airbnb or private owner first. They will never help you and will refuse to let you speak to the owners or anyone further up than Terry Gore. They advertised items in the home not working. If I had known about the fireplace I would have chosen a different home. Misrepresentation is an ethics violation in real estate. read more

So this post will most likely get deleted but this is just WRONG! My large family rented a house back in November. We paid over 5k down and just before the remainder was due one family member who is a healthcare worker was told she could not travel to NC due to COVID. As a family we decided to cancel. We called to cancel but one hour later decided we still wanted to go so called back and the person assured us we were good and she would pull the cancellation papers back. Well that didn't happen and they listed the house as available and another family booked it. Outer Banks Blue admitted it was their mistake but would not allow us to keep our house. They did however assure us that the $500 cancellation fee would be waived since it was their mistake. Over 2 months later and we were still fighting to get the $500 back. They finally said NO, they aren't refunding the $500. Outer Banks Blue was out no money but they are choosing to do bad business and keep hard working people's money and go against what they told us. We are all about having sympathy for companies who are dealing with COVID but this was their mistake and they lied to us. Not good business. Every year our family rents from Outer Banks Blue, every year. No more. Not ever again. So how much is this lie gonna cost you Outer Banks Blue? read more

There are so many good realty companies on OBX. We have taken about 12 vacations to OBX, and used at least 5 realty companies and had mostly great experiences with them. OBB is the first one we have dealt with that I would say is not accommodating. When you're in the hospitality business and there is as much competition as there is, you have to have great customer service. OBB has been difficult to reach, unfriendly, and unwilling to accommodate in every attempt to communicate with them. It's easy to see why their rating is so low. There simply are much better options. read more

I agree with Samantha B. and Jan J. about the way Outer Banks Blue is treating customers during COVID-19. We were supposed to go with friends in a group of 13 but with the pandemic and executive orders of gatherings of no more than 10, we cancelled. I've had no issues cancelling airline flights and hotel reservations during COVID-19, however, Outer Banks Blue is just straight up greedy and has refused a refund. We were told that we may get a partial refund if someone else rents out that week. I will never rent from them again! read more

First I would like to say that we have been coming to OBX for at least 15 years. We have used multiple rental companies over those years and have had no issues. This is the first time we have used Outer Banks Blue and it will definitely be the last. We were very happy at the video that was sent out describing the increased cleaning that would be done prior to our arrival due to Covid. It certainly eased our minds.....however this is not what we walked into at our rental, WH046. It had not even been cleaned.....there was new linen sitting right inside the door, but nothing had been cleaned. I immediately called and was told that they had until 6 to clean, per the lease. A crew of 4 finally came at 4:45 to clean and eight bedroom, eight full, 2 half bathrooms!! They left at 6:00 and hadn't touched most things. My stepdaughter went around and cleaned everything again....wiping down everything with Clorox wipes. The upstairs bedroom never even had a top sheet put on it and it had what looked like a urine stain on the bed skirt. They never even touched the outside bar area around the pool. The outdoor bathroom was absolutely disgusting. That was just the beginning. The house itself left a lot to be desired. The "fake drawer" under the sink didn't have a piece over it....it was wide open with red tape over it. The two dishwashers had broken wine glasses in them and also broken glass in the bottom of them. The outside screen room had broken screen and the screens for the house were left in it and not even put on the house. There was a bowl with white paint and paintbrush just left sitting on the deck. All of the chairs around the pool bar were broken, as well as 2 bar stools upstairs, and 2 dining room chairs. The drain for the kiddie pool and the main pool were wide open pipes (no drain covers over them) so little hands could definitely get in and possibly get stuck in them. We had one year old twins at the house and had to be extra vigilant if they were near that area. I made sure I let Terry know this and it went in one ear and out the other. He seemed to have no care when there needed to be a fix for safety reasons. Neither of the outdoor showers worked (they did come and fix these during the week). Three of the tubs were backed up and had water up to your shins....this also was fixed during the week. We also saw a few cockroaches in the upstairs bedroom, next to the kitchen. We actually fixed one problem for them....the dryer was not drying clothing very well and we also smelled something hot. It ended up that the vent was kinked and was filled with lint. We're lucky that there wasn't a fire. There were multiple other issues with the house. I did speak to Terry during the week and as others have stated he told me to send him an email after we were home as to the issues. I sent this and received an email back that they like to provide "service, not refunds". So, really we received neither. It took over a month to receive an email back that they would give us a $300 credit toward another rental. I had already told him that we would never use their company again. If you are looking at using this company, please look at others. They will most definitely have much better service and care about their customers health and safety. read more

Do yourself and favor and DO NOT rent from this group! We booked a family vacation and were advised to purchase travel insurance, which we did. (Always do!) There was a mandatory evacuation, and come to find out that their insurance that we were told to buy was a BIG WASTE of money. The insurance did not cover anything. We were only allowed to stay 2 days of our paid weeks vacation, with no reimbursement! No callbacks, nothing. We have had our vacations in the past effected by storms and the travel insurance and other rental companies have always been beyond helpful, NOT this company! The property itself was very dated and dirty. Pictures online were decieving and about 15 years old....No welcoming bag or any info from them. This was our 22nd beach trip, we go ever spring and late summer, and this was the first time ever experiencing this... Seriously! First and last time with Outer Banks Blue. read more

Thanks to Blue Realty and the filthy property owners of Cinco Mayos 8207 Old Oregon Inlet for really putting a damper on our family vacation. Our first day upon arriving 1) we went and bought all new linens for the beds, because existing had food crumbs and stains. 2) bought bowls and silverware, because there wasn't enough and if there was, NO WAY would I eat from ANY! 3) bought towels because they supplied 2 yes 2! 4) no kitchens linens or hot pads. Didn't buy any of those because I wasn't cooking in that kitchen! 5) black mold in bathroom 6) holes in SOILED furniture living room & patio 7) would not take off our shoes because the was not vacuumed & there was not a vacuum or broom anywhere to be found!!!! 8)bath tub leaked (explains rusty ironing board & black mold) 9) broken kitchen chairs 10) stains on wall that I don't want to know what it was. And best of all Cock Roaches in the laundry room, so you can bet they're elsewhere too! We called on Sunday our first day and were told they will not help us until Monday unless there is an electrical problem or fire. Monday they sent out a maintenance guy who was very nice but could not help us with any issues because it was all about up keep. He also told us he gets this all the time. ( like in previous reviews.) When my family vacations and pays the prices we did we expect to stay somewhere to the standards of our living or better. Not feel like we would of been better off camping. And lastly the owners drove by not once but twice and called Blue Realty to complain about how we were parked! I really wish they would have stopped by! I took pictures of the property and the rooms so if in question of my opinions I have proof to back up every one of these issues. Rented from them a few years ago and it was a great experience. not so this time. Our house was nice but the Outer Banks Blue staff is terrible-- unresponsive, not at all knowledgeable about their rental properties, did not make sure some things were in working order for our stay, did not return calls/answer questions as promised. Also, a few items were left behind in a closet. They claim they were not found by cleaning staff. We are sad that the level of quality service has declined so much over the past few years. We used to recommend them, no way would I do that now. read more

We have rented through Outer Banks Blue now for the past 2 years. Both times we rented Surfin USA. It's a great house and very well maintained. We rented other houses through different management companies and have had some hits and misses. I can't speak for their other houses or their condition but we will continue to rent this house because it has everything we want and we love the top floor. read more

We had an amazing time at the tropical dream house and the staff at the rental facility was amazing. They dealt with any of my maintenance issues right away and also make sure that they kept in contact with us the entire trip. Booking the property was the only part of the process that was positive for me. I felt the rental company truly cared about making my vacation a great one and that they would be providing awesome customer service from start to finish. (Boy was I wrong!) I must say, I was a bit disappointed when I arrived at the home and there was not even a welcome letter from the agency. I'm used to getting welcome envelopes from other agencies! There was a moldy coffee filter in the machine when we arrived which indicates a lack of professionalism on the part of the cleaning crew. I felt the cleaning of the property was substandard. More importantly, the lack of care and inspection of the property itself by Outer Banks Blue is a shame. I signed a contract for almost $4000 on a place I had no way of viewing beforehand and come to find out upon arrival that the a/c unit was completely broken and in disrepair prior to our vacation time! The owners should have immediately given the okay for the repair of the a/c unit. The rental week was Saturday to Saturday, a new central a/c unit wasn't being put in until Friday. My guests and I left the property a day early because we had such a nightmarish ordeal with both the property and rental agency. I was told that a new a/c unit would be installed Monday night or at absolute latest Tuesday morning. The a/c unit was not being installed until Friday around noon. We suffered through 3 nights of sweating without a/c, 2 nights trying to sleep in what sounded like a boiler room and a night where it sounded like we were in a wind tunnel. Only 2 of 4 bedrooms on the lower level were capable of window a/c units. Note: I didn't sign a contract for a rental with window units either. After calling the rental manage on 3 occasions I received a callback 12/13 days after my first call! Sadly, I missed the call and found out from a message the owners would be reimbursing me a measly $400 for my nightmare! This isn't satisfactory and where is Outer Banks Blue portion of a refund to me for their total lack of professionalism throughout? I don't feel like arguing with this company anymore because I'm certain they don't care at all about making up for what my family and I went through. I'm still shocked! BEWARE to anyone who is thinking of using this company for their vacation! The one good thing I can say is that the home had a wonderful view but even that couldn't make up for everything I went through! read more

I am giving 3 stars to the company, but only 1 star to the property I stayed at in July. Celestial Seasuns , at a 13,000.00 weekly rate, including taxes and insurance, is by far the worst property I've stayed at in my 7 visits to the Outer Banks. We always stay Ocean front and rent at least a 6 bedroom house and this was the pits. The pool was disgusting, Outer Banks Blue sent their crew to try and address many issues, but bottom line is a new filter is badly needed. Walkway from beach shower did not work and we were told the owners were not answering their phone calls. The property has new outside railings, but no one filled in all the old nail holes, nor repainted where it was sorely needed. I know that's all cosmetic, but come on, the property needs to look inviting. I also wrote a review on the realty website, it has to this day not been printed, when I inquired about that, on September 6, I was told someone from marketing would get back to me. Haven't heard a word, like I said, Outer Banks Blue is decent enough, they were concerned, I've actually used them 2 times previously, but they need to seriously check the conditions of their "premium" properties read more

I have rented from OBB once before and it was a nice experience. I even referred friends to use them. This last time was very disappointing. When we arrived there was trash scattered in the front and side lawn area (beer bottles, cans, water bottles etc). I also found dirty towels on the deck. I called to complain and was told that the house keeping staff does not clean the outside. What?! The who does? Since there was NO offer of assistance WE cleaned up the trash. Bad enough for safety and looks but also for trash to be scattered across the street from the beach/ocean is horrible! They obviously don't care about the environment and condition of the very beach they are promoting. Once inside it got worse...dead bugs on the floor in several rooms, dirty kitchen cabinets, dirty fridge, and more left over dirty towels on the floor. It was very apparent that the house had not been cleaned. So I called to complain again. This time because it was inside the house they sent housekeeping out. The housekeeping staff arrived soon after my call and they were very nice, worked quickly and sadly were more apologetic than the customer rep I spoke to. The house needs some TLC in general...the decks were splinters waiting to happen and the gate latches were rusted and didn't really work. Not kid friendly. Also some of the outside lights didn't work which is a night time safety issue. Sad because this was probably once a very beautiful home...nice size pool and hot tub, great views, nice size house with many rooms, short walk to the beach. Not too mention the dirty/stained pillow cases. Unacceptable. Considering how expensive these homes in OBX rent for I was furious at the lack of care...the trash on the lawn, the inside condition. It was a bad start to an anticipated vacation. I completed the survey for OBB at the end of trip...received no response. I am not sure I will ever rent from them again. read more
