Ever seen a review almost exactly 8 years after the work was completed? Well, you be the judge and take a look at the pictures. The new ones I took this morning. The work in progress pics I still had from 2017. Back in 2017, we wanted out weedy backyard overhauled for sod with nice mow strips and planter areas. Maki and his crew at Otto are the hardest workers I've ever seen. They were fast, dependable, and did quality work that has stood the test of time. To this day, I love the mow strips...so much easer to take care of the lawn. They did some of the most quality work for a reasonable price and I am still thrilled with their workmanship. On a personal note, my mother passed away while they were mid-project. Maki was so patient and took care of things while I had to step away and help my dad deal with funeral arrangements. read more

Very professional work done. We had a retaining wall that partially collapsed after a vehicle accident in front of our house. I got a quote from one company and said he would be here to do the job. That other guy was bad at communicating with me so, I then called Otto. He came out that same day for an estimate. In the meantime, still no return calls from the other guy after a week. Paid to have concrete steps that were not up to code torn out and then new steps poured that met code. Demolished steps along with part of the foundation of my house. I told him the foundation had to be fixed first. And the forms he put in place for the new steps were also not up to code. He wanted to be paid for the total price - which I did - and when I told him I didn't want to continue with his shoddy workmanship, we agreed he would reimburse me for half the amount paid. He shook hands and never paid the full amount. Just made more excuses for his terrible workmanship. A formal complaint has been filed against his license. DON'T HIRE THIS FRAUD. read more

Looking for Quality work. He is not the one. He said yes to you and he lies because he wants your money. He does not want you to see him while he is working because he does not want you to see how bad his work is. When you see it, it is too late and he gets your money and he runs away. He also uses cheap concrete mix. His concrete work is worse than the original builder concrete that was 10 years ago. It is also worse than the side walk, drive way and the side of the house concrete for trash cans. Be sure to have a check list and check everything before he leaves, do not give him money unless he does the work correctly and fixes his mistake. See the work, not the words he says. Giving them a 3 stars because the first job they did for us in the backyard was good. However, when they did the RV/BOAT parking for us, they were short one area and came back and finished the last area. The last area did not match the rest. Maki told me to give it a month to cure if it still doesn't match, he will return and fix it. We waited over a month and still did not match. This company was very polite on the phone. They were the only recommendation provided to me by Angie's List, but were located two hours away. The receptionist at Otto's gave me the number of the owner and told me to talk to him directly. I phoned and he was surprised to hear of my location, and declined to bid for the job. He did send me at my request the number of someone closer who might be interested. I give 4 stars because they seem like a good company, but should remove their profile from Angie's List for Walnut Creek if unwilling to work in that area. Maki is awesome! Put in approx. 13 x 80 foot driveway next to my house for our camper! Discovered they buried our water main too shallow, 6 inches vs. 1 foot, and he fixed that issue, ensured all sprinklers were connected/working and inserted 3 inch PVC under the driveway in the event we wanted to run more lines in the future. Maki was the only contractor for this job that showed up on time for the estimate, provided me with an estimate on the spot, and came to work exactly when he said he would.
