If you are familiar with the brand, Princess Auto sells all kinds of car maintenance products, and shelving and other items to outfit your garage to do the repairs and maintenance required. They have things to fix your car: wheels and tires (after all, it's winter now... are your snow tires on?); doodads to check the pressure of your tires; trailer hitches; and all and sundry for the DIY car enthusiast. So why do *I* like it when I don't know the right side of a wrench? Because they are Canadian owned and operated, and they sell work gloves and those heating things to keep your hands and feet warm in the winter. I go there maybe every 3-4 months to check out what is on display. It's different than a hardware store, but also good and useful.

And "Princess"??? What's up with that? The "Princess" in the name kept me from going the store when I first moved to Ottawa from BC for at least a week. Then I got my hands on the flyer. I was in. To be completely sexist, it's totally a guy place. A tinkering, wrenching, dirty hands on , Tim the toolman kind of guy place. If you like to build stuff, this is it. Welding equipment, a pretty complete hydraulics department, compressors and complete small engines? Check. Car lifts? Metal rod? Trailer parts? Check, check and check. And tools. Lotsa of tools. The "Power Fist" (yeah, I know) brand is a budget line and some of these are iffy. Their "Pro point" line is much higher quality and matches or exceeds some of the better known name brands. I used to swear by Mastercraft and Sears hand tools, (Snap-on is for poseurs.) but no more. And then there is the surplus section. Here's where you can get HDMI cables for low, low prices. BB guns. A drone. Even some Apple Istuff accessories, but only a generation or two back from the latest. Weaknesses? Well the surplus department is just that, so I regret not buying more reading glasses when they had a pile for sale. I lost or broke a couple of pairs, but there's none left at PA. Boo hoo. More seriously, the fastener department is not great. As in nuts and bolts. They have a selection of middle to large size bolts (And nuts and washers.) but don't look for anything smaller than 1/4". I would like to see the #6-#12 sizes. The snacks in the check out line are overpriced and some might be a decade old. But the gleaming wrenches, super sales, and no hassle return policy keep me coming back for more!

The only person that is knowledgeable is the Australian or New Zealand guy who works there. He is great. But I hesitate to go there because the cashiers always screw up, and customer service is brutally slow and they are either not knowledgeable or are untrained. Also their return policies are more strict than other stores. For example we bought a toilet that was defective, and we couldn't return it! I get the whole sanitary thing, but we spend hundreds on a toilet that we could not return. We even called the manufacturer for parts and it still leaked. Finally since we couldn't return it we used caulking! It was such a hassle for weeks and we are still having issues with it! When talking to the plumbing guy at Rona, he said that they would've taking back the toilet in that case, since it was defective. So goes to prove that other places really put the customer first. I've also had tons of issues with items not scanning right, like carpeting here. It took forever to get the pricing resolved as the cashiers had no clue what to do. Ugh so frustrating. Also renting a vehicle is a hassle. Make sure you have a paper copy of your insurance with you. Anyways, I will be avoiding this place as much as possible unless they have a good paint sale. It's just not worth the hassle to go to lowe's otherwise.

I'm glad I took a picture of this place so at least I have proof that the place exists. Outside of its inability to be found in any Google search that I've tried, once you step into @Home, you're in for a decent time. @Home is a kitchenware store with a large assortment of different items that you can use in the kitchen or dining area. The items range from the strictly utilitarian (e.g., spring form pans - nothing fancy there) to the imaginative (e.g., elegantly shaped wine decanters). If you're looking for some interesting décor add-ons for your kitchen, or looking for something to theme your next party, this is probably a good place to start. It's not just the variety, but the quantity of items that is also overwhelming. There's tons of stuff that you can go through and, if you're so inclined, it's pretty easy to kill a half an hour in this little shop. Add to this it is an independent store and not a larger chain, so if you're into helping out the smaller business, this is a great store for you. Just don't try to Google your way there. Just get to Earl Grey Drive and look for the place in the picture.
