Well the most recent review was dated 2017.... so here goes!…read more The thing that is undeniably appealing about a local Home Hardware store is it's location. Similar to a 7-Eleven, if you know exactly what you want, and for the sake of expediency, you don't mind paying a minor premium for it.... then go to your local Home Hardware. If you want to browse, and you want to compare the pros & cons of 60+ different kinds of hammers, drills, or whatever.... then you will be very disappointed with Home Hardware. Manage your expectations! The staff are hit and miss, they don't necessarily get the same level of training or expertise as the staff at Home Depot or Rona do; some of them are phenomenally knowledgeable about pluming while some of them are utterly clueless about other things. Do you homework before coming here to make that convenience purchase. The other nice thing about this particular location of Home Hardware is that it is also a FedEx Pickup/Dropoff Centre, plus it is also a Purolator Pickup/Dropoff Centre. I find this particular location of Home Hardware in the Wellington West area, nestled between Hintonburg / Chinatown / Westboros, to be very well located. Easily walkable if you live nearby and easily accessible by OC Transpo if you are just a little bit farther away.

The store manager and owner both lack integrity, honesty and professionalism. They have multiple negative reviews that mention discrimination and/or racism. They have a Human Rights complaint against them too which is highly disappointing but not the least bit surprising particularly after my last experience there. Normally I'm happy to support local business but they just keep doubling down on bad behaviour and using lies to try and wash away their bad behaviour. I've only asked two neighbours so far but all 3 of us no longer shop there.

It's always worth giving them a call to price-check something because more often than not, their pricing is excellent. I do property maintenance and management, and Preston Hardware has become my go-to store. They generally have what I need, and if they don't, they can usually bring it in for me. I also have a contractor account, which lets me tag my invoices by property so I can easily keep everything straight for my accounting. I deal with Roberto quite a bit, and he's always friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and quick to get back to me. The service is consistently excellent. Their location is great too. If you're anywhere downtown, they're the place to go -- and even if you're not downtown, it's worth the drive. Great atmosphere, friendly service, great pricing, and I really like supporting a family-run business. Highly recommended!

I was installing a…read moremetal frame on one side that would be against the house and would not be accessible once installed. This would be used to attach a fence for plants to crawl up on. However I needed to drill some holes in the metal to connect the pieces. The drill bits I had worked great with wood but would not pierce through this metal and was in fact dulling the bits after I had recently sharpened them. Doing some research on the internet I learned that the best bits for metal were cobalt drill bits. I checked my local stores like Canadian Tire and Rona but they did not have them. I found some on Amazon but it would take a few days for delivery. Then I found Lowes had them in stock in their store. So I ordered some for pickup around 5 PM. The next day by 9AM I received an email saying they were ready for pickup. I shot down there right away and received very pleasant service from the Pick up clerk/cashier and left a very happy customer. Arriving home I was very anxious to use these bits to see if they could perform. They cut through the metal like butter and gave me a great sense of accomplishment in both the job I was doing and using a good high quality product made by DeWalt. **Warning** Do not hire Home Depot for toilet or other product installations. They will not take…read morecare of property damage if the installation goes wrong!!! I hired the Home Depot to install a new toilet in November 2023. The home depot sub contracts toilet installs to another company (Quick Contractors). They sent a guy with no experience to install the toilet. The installer installed the toilet incorrectly and on an angle. The toilet leaked and caused thousands of damage to the floor and ceiling below. I have been given the run around from Home Depot and Quick Contractors to repair the damage. These two big companies decided to pass off all responsibility to the installers private insurance who has been ignoring my emails and calls. I have informed both companies there has been no progress or resolution in site. The contractors private insurance has claimed they have not accepted fault for the damage yet, even though it has been made clear the installer was at fault. A 2nd installer was sent out from Quick Contractors to reinstall the toilet and report back on what caused the damage. The 2nd installer clearly stated the leak was from improper installation and took pictures. Attached are photos of the toilet installed on an angle and the water leaking out of the base soaking a drop cloth. If you think hiring a big company like Home Depot will have your back with any warranty issues think again. My house is supposed to be on the market for sale but will be delayed until the repairs are final.
