Hmm. PRINCESS AUTO! lol! No car parts here and barely any accessories! More like a Lee Valley Tools. This company is Canadian which is cool and more stores are currently being built. Staff were friendly. Dog treats up front! The store was crammed full of stuff. Nothing fancy. Kind of surplus store meets Canadian Tire. Perfect for the Mr Fix It type guy.

If you are familiar with the brand, Princess Auto sells all kinds of car maintenance products, and shelving and other items to outfit your garage to do the repairs and maintenance required. They have things to fix your car: wheels and tires (after all, it's winter now... are your snow tires on?); doodads to check the pressure of your tires; trailer hitches; and all and sundry for the DIY car enthusiast. So why do *I* like it when I don't know the right side of a wrench? Because they are Canadian owned and operated, and they sell work gloves and those heating things to keep your hands and feet warm in the winter. I go there maybe every 3-4 months to check out what is on display. It's different than a hardware store, but also good and useful.

Well... I live close to here, went through a move. So, of course I need this place here and there…read more It is nice and small. I cannot stand the big box hardware stores. I don't know how to find what I need, too much stuff. Too many huge aisles. This location, I always get a great parking spot in front as it's never busy. In late summer, I remember coming here also to grab corn and other fresh farm things from a stand in the lot. Handy. Yummy. The down side here is that there is no one asking if you need help and staff at the register are not that knowledgeable. It's also very expensive. Selection not great (even re light bulbs) BUT, they do have some unique things that I've only seen here. Some in housewares, would make great gifts. I grabbed the mug I took a pic of below as an example. Anyways, I've bought many an item here and I know I'll be back. Convenience gets it 3 stars.

This hardware store is much improved since it became a Home Hardware (it used to be a Rona…read morecorporate store before Lowe's bought them out). It's now brighter and cleaner, more inviting. And although I miss the kitchen set up display, I do love the addition of the giftware section! This shop has a small-town, personal feel, which the larger chains are lacking. It's still not a huge store, and the customer service section (round desk in the centre of the store) is still where it used to be. At least this store sells some lumber, and tiles. And there's an area / room for contractors to do their business, too. The biggest bonus to me is that it's still Canadian! Bravo! I will be back.

That's a bit odd, but you get to do your comparison shopping all in one location! Jeff S wrote a great and very informative review about the Orleans location of Jysk (thanks Jeff!) However, I do have to say that although he compares this store chain to Ikea, I am not a fan of Ikea, as I don't like the feeling of being herded through the store like so much cattle or sheep. You know the feeling: you can't walk in the door and march straight to the section you're looking for without following the sidewalk past a zillion other things before finding the item(s) you're looking for! This store is much like that, but a bit better. Ikea would have scored less than a 3-star from me. Sorry to you Ikea fans!! But this is just me... We wandered through the store just to see what they had to offer, and overall, I have to say that I was fairly impressed! First of all, we've been looking in all the local hardware stores for mirrors for 2 places in our house, and this place won out over everyone else, hands down! Not only did they have the exact size we were looking for (which I admit is a bit unusual) but these mirrors were also a fabulous price! We got these items for a fraction of the price the hardware stores were asking. LOVE IT!! I will come back occasionally to have a poke about.

Jean Claude-Cayer offers a price match guarantee, and I asked them if they would price match an offer from Home Depot for a tool kit. An employee said yes and gave a code with expiry date to use against the purchase, but when I asked if the shipping & handling was also matched against Home Depot, I got an email back saying, 'You are free to make the purchase elsewhere. The code for the price match has been cancelled and deleted.' They cancelled and deleted their offer for price-matching before its expiry date, did so as reprisal for myself asking a question, and effectively ended further communication. I've read some reviews of Jean Claude-Cayer on Google since then and customers who've faced a poor attitude was mentioned several times in those reviews. From this experience, some people at JCC do seem to have a poor attitude and it will cost them business, as it did here. It appears that asking a question may be interpreted as a personal affront/insult, and correcting that perspective is a good place to start turning their customer service experience around.
